If that means they drop Meego, they can have a kick in the nuts from me!!!!

Symbian and meego are to be 'sidelined' according to BBC news so a swift kick to the nuts is in order. They putting all their chips on MS.....what an exciting partnership. I am sure apple are already living in fear
I don't get it.
I think Microsoft is a mistake, but if it works out it will benefit both sides.
It will be interesting to see what this will yield.
On another Note I see Meego can run Dalvik Turbo.
It seems to be something similar to Wine for linux, but for Android on Meego.
Basically you can run Android apps seamlessly on Meego.
I want to post link but I can't yet. So the Source is Linuxfordevices.com
Title is: "Dalvik ported to MeeGo, promising instant Android app compatibility"
With this development, I think they should have stuck to what they were doing, and made a deal with google to allow Android Market on their Meego Phones.
I understand there would be some sort of premium for them to do that, but damn that would be awesome, it might have killed android.
As much as I love Maemo for it's Multitasking capabilities, I don't like the provided Market on it. Not to mention Qt for Meego.
I hope they still release a Meego device.
Peace.

This decision definitively benefits Microsoft more than Nokia. MSFT gets a great handset maker with international market. Nokia gets.... a new OS. I think Android would have definitively been a better choice.
I just think this partnership will produce some very dull devices that are locked down to the extreme. Now if they put some good Xbox functionality in a device.....that might be interesting.

LOL I cannot pretend I will miss them while they rest in peace...its been a long time since I thought "Damn I wish I had that Nokia"
I disagree entirely (having come from an n900 to a Nexus s just one week ago).
I hope for great things on the Nokia experimental side, and will be rooting for Meego in any form factor..
Win Mobile looks OK, but it's not my kinda thing, i would rather Android/Meego/Maemo anyday!
Symbian was good in it's day, it's just a bit "old hat" ...it for me is hard to fathom how they could make that maemo device and then stick with symbian as a main platform, lost respect from me for that alone!
I hope to see them thrive though, even if i will not buy the win7 devices, ALL mobile companies (inc. google) could do with the kick up the arse that comes from competition, any competition, is good for us all i say!
nyway .. ramble over ....out with the meego allready!!
the only thing i want to see RIP, is fanboi's ...they suck (from apple or android, or any other brand)

I look at it this way:
When the iPhone was released it was absolutely, bar-none the best, easiest-to-use, most powerful smartphone on the market. It offered a device that anyone could jump into and use without much of a learning curve and as a result it gained a huge amount of market share. When the G1 launched it brought open-source and entirely different UI that allowed users to truly customize their phone experience. It took Google a bit longer but then started to take away from Apple's dominance. Now we have WP7 and I ask myself, what new or interesting features does it bring? You can't copy and paste, you can't customize it, you can't even add storage and the UI is basic and bland. I guess its sort of cool that it has the XBox live support, but that would only be a cool feature to XBox owners and I sold my XBox to get a PS3 because I was tired of paying Microsoft just to watch Netflix which I was already paying to watch. Besides, what is WP7 except Kin with a little more power? And I'm sure I don't need to explain how that worked out.
So to continue my line of thinking, Nokia made the wrong choice. I've seen no real sales figures on WP7 and I know one person who owns one and he happens to work for Microsoft. Actually, my sister's boyfriend who also works for Microsoft owns a Droid X so not even all their employees believe in the platform. Nokia is continuing its history of hitching itself to a wagon with a broken wheel. I was looking forward to Nokia Android devices but I won't lose any sleep over the loss and I won't lose any when they announce bankruptcy in a few months or years.
even the iPhones needs to accommodate the competition now

Nokia would have been way better off with Android
To us not in the Nokia boardroom it does seem a strange partnership. I mean we could all have told them that apple is king for most 'casual' phone users with android gaining general recognition and acceptance to. MS windows I really don't think will generate any excitement among the masses. Kev is right....what will they bring to the party? I guess accountants in crisp suits may be attracted to a windows device but would many under 25's be interested in MS office for mobile 2011?

Nokia's CEO(?) isn't going to eat his own words and use Android. That isn't the world we live in. Although I'm curious to see what they can bring to the table. I remember Nokia used to bring out some awesome phones, but now it's just either Android phones or Apple's iPhone that gets everyones attention.

But they have a new CEO who isn't the one who made the Android is like pissing yourself to stay warm comment. And you can't just say its just Android phones, because as a result of Android, the playing field has been leveled. People get excited over Motorola phones the same as LG or HTC or Samsung or any other brand.
I am glad Nokia picked Microsoft.
Really, this is the best outcome for us, Android users.
Why?
Because this will trigger more competition, which will result more innovation from Google Android and Apple iOS (major players on smartphone. No RIM is not )
Believe me, you should be thankful to Nokia and Microsoft.

I don't think Microsoft is much competition to either iOS or Android and I don't think either side sees them as such. Their market share, last I saw, was pathetic at best. I would prefer there was more hardware competition than software and another manufacturer pushing out high end hardware would have been just that.

exactly, i was really hoping to see some Nokia with Android love, but the moment they selected Microsoft... all hopes were gone.

http://business.financialpost.com/2011/02/15/rim-refused-nokia-software-partnership-report/
Nokia Corp. recently held discussions with Waterloo, Ontario-based Research in Motion Ltd. over the possibility of a software partnership. Had the deal gone through, it would have seen Nokia smartphones running RIM’s BlackBerry operating system.
OMG! those EGO maniacs at BlackBerry should be fired
They BB think they are too good for Nokia? they better think again, they are falling off the top fast.
if Nokia were running BB OS they would have been the perfect marriage.
I'd have picked up a device in a heart beep
BB & Nokia were made for each other, i can't believe those guys at BB didn't accept the partnership
no wonder there were those news articles about Nokia jumping from the burning pan to the fire (microsoft) LOL
Lol yep, blackberry could have accessed some decent handsets. It is actually going to be quite interesting to see what happens to Nokia. I seriously cannot see them dominating ever again...what they got that nobody can match?
So Nokia is trying to partner up with every mobile software company that needs help other than iOS and Android. Interesting.

Nokia actually was talking to google too. It just did not get them anywhere.
Regarding RIM I actually don't know why would they want to do anything with Nokia.
They already have very decent hardware of their own, they don't really need symbian or any other Nokia OS, so what would they gain?
As a side note: three years ago Nokia closed their factory and R&D center in Germany and moved to Romania. Then came RIM and hired many of those engineers Nokia just put on the street. Those ~100 engineers are not much in the grand scale of things, compared to the headcount, but nonetheless. For example, BB Bold 9700 was the first BB model designed there.
Rim has antiquated screens on every phone. It's like 8-bit cell phones. If this happened I would grab one right away. So sad.

Cameras. Well, it's not so much that nobody can, just that they haven't.
Nokia: Hey RIM, I have that cool cooperation agreement with CarlZeiss and I know how to buy some Amoleds from my korean sources. Wanna marry me?
RIM: I don't want your stinkin' cameras and I do shopping myself! I am a serious businessman and cameras are for kids!
I hate the screens on every single BB phone that has been released in 2010 so far. It feels like I'm going back in time everytime I look at the screen.

Now that apple confirmed LTE on new apple devices, I wonder if Samsung will follow through with their recent public promise of immediately suing apple for patent infringing on their LTE technology. I heard HTC had some important patents Apple was already trying to challenge

Guys and girls, it would be nice if we all go watch new HTC commercial, like it, favorite and share :highfive:
Let's get this puppy rolling!
It's good to remind that this commercial actually features the HTC One in video, the HTC One (M7) device is used throughout the film and in the car wash section RDJ asks to boost the options in which the speakers volume is increased considerably
Also seems no one else noticed this, but check out the acronyms passing fast at the end of the video
there are many and it's genius, here is one of them
HTC: Hawaiian Tickle Ceremony
Associating with RDJ is a great idea. He appeals to a wide and varied demographic. With any marketing the message is only a part of a campaign. The other, and arguably more important, is quantity of impressions, repetition of the message, and breadth of its delivery.
In its most daring effort yet to stay in league with Apple and Samsung, HTC announced a massive marketing campaign Monday starring "Iron Man" actor Robert Downey Jr. The Taiwanese phone maker confirmed it has signed Downey to a two-year deal, which is reportedly worth $12 million. The new campaign, called "Change," is intended to get consumers talking about HTC once again. The company said the campaign will last at least two years and cost about $1 billion -- the same as HTC's global marketing budget last year.
http://www.latimes.com/business/tec...y-marketing-campaign-20130812,0,1978367.story
HTC's spending the same as they did last year ($500MM annually) over the next two years with the RDJ campaign. Motorola's spending that just to launch the Moto X. So time will tell if a really clever campaign with a well-recognized spokesperson will accomplish HTC's objective. And that objective isn't to make the current faithful like them more it's to regain market share lost to other smartphone companies. And that group needs to see and remember the message (and of course HTC) which is going to be a challenge with HTC’s budget.
I love this new ad campaign!
That was great. Fantastic production value and acting - this is a great campaign, awesome to see from HTC
I think the campaign is absolutely brutal. You get one of the best brand ambassadors in RDJ and this is the best you can come up with?

It's a brilliant commercial. It gets people talking about HTC. It's weird, it's witty, and most importantly it's different than anything else out there. The one's that do not like it should watch it a couple of times, you catch little things that make it better each time.

Really nice video from Placebo and the One seems to be spot on, although it is kind of a negative representative of technology (even bad publicity is good ). One thing bothers me: i can't seem to find the nudity augmenting app in google.store. Anyone?!
You guys are kind of missing the point of what the new campaign needs to do and are expressing your "feelings" toward it. In Q2 there were 45% more smartphones sold then last year. HTC’s Q2 revenue was down 28%. So something’s caused/causing HTC to lose customers in a burgeoning market at a faster rate than their competitors (LG and Sony’s YOY market share improved in Q2). Paying RDJ $6MM a year for two years and coming up with an edgy offbeat campaign is designed to reverse that trend and its success solely lies in how much additional revenue and market share HTC gains because of it.
So who buy’s (or doesn’t buy) HTC’s phones?
People that have followed them since the G1, like their products, consider themselves loyal to the brand, or like to align with the "underdog" and consider themselves contrarians (HTC as the "anti" Samsung).
People who are aware of HTC, may have lost track of them, and are neutral toward owning an HTC phone.
People who don't know HTC (unaided awareness), don’t really follow technology on the whole, view a smartphone dispassionately (it’s a tool), and buy what they like based on what’s available at their two-year contract renewal.
People that don’t like HTC. They may have had a bad experience, be loyal to another brand, or simply decided that, compared to other choices, they don’t like HTC or their products.
I’d assume the majority in this forum are heavily weighted to category 1 with some people who either found or came back to HTC because of the One which are in category 2. For those groups, since their already loyal and aware and probably bought the One, the advertising campaign is simply a “feel good” and won’t do anything to help HTC meet its objectives. Once a brand (any brand) has poisoned a customer marketing alone statistically doesn’t get them to come back so there won’t be a lot of category 4 purchasers converted because of the campaign.
So category 3 is the biggest opportunity. That and elevating the opinion of HTC and propensity to buy for those in category 2. The success of the campaign rests on how well it appeals to those two categories and will be measured by a reversal in HTC’s decline. So HTC loyalists can “love” the campaign and people can comment on its innovativeness but the only thing that matters is whether or not it brings in new customers and revenue. It's not going to have an impact in Q3 because it's almost over and HTC's projecting their first loss for that quarter. So we won't know how effective the campaign is (or is starting to be, it runs for two years) until the end of Q4. But there will be a slew of campaigns running pre-holiday including the LG G2, Moto X, SGS4 (it's still new to people that are using older phones), Note 3, Sony Honomi, and iP5s/c. So there's lot of messaging that HTC's campaign will be competing against and Apple and Samsung do a lot of saturation which is particularly hard to be memorable against because repetition trumps the creative in driving awareness.
Nice!! HTC is doing a much better job with advertising this device. After I bought my One, three of the people I talked to about it's first words were "Oh I just saw a commercial for that!" That has NEVER been the case with HTC before! Great phone, deserves their marketing attention.
I honestly can't say I enjoyed the ad... I wish it were more minimalist.
It fits really well with rdj personality, it's really different for an advert, catches attention, gets people talking. I think its really clever advert. I honestly can't think of a better way to use RDJ, follow-up adverts will probably include him using the phone of something simialr, this is definitely HTC on the right track

Alright, at least two people who I know watched the ad went on ebay and brought their own one. I'd put them into category 3. I'm impressed. The ad at least got them to do a bit of research (I assume) or they just impulsively brought the one upon watching the ad. Thought I'd share this, someone else might find this interesting

RDJ is a gift and a curse. A gift because it'll create a lot of attention for the campaign. A curse because if all people talk about and remember are those "RDJ commercials” as opposed to "HTC's new commercials" it'll do squat for HTC and win awards on the "creative" side and fail miserably on the "effectiveness (EG: revenue)" side. In advertising/marketing you never want the creative to upstage or overpower the product/service it’s there to support. I showed the ad to my "category 3" non-geek friends without any intro. When it was over I asked "what was it for?" None of them knew. Hardly a relevant focus group but interesting nonetheless.

Why has Sony not been included as a OEM for Android Wear powered wearables?
That's bad because recently Sony has been making some of the most awesome and user friendly devices and it always has.
Also its smart watch(1 & 2) is more successful than any other manufacturer's .
So why has Google not partnered with Sony?
Anybody shares the same views?
Sent from my C2104 using Tapatalk
I wouldn't read too much into who has officially announced "partnering" at this time.
Sony is pretty much pro-Android. If they do more powerful watches I'd guess they'll go with Wear.
Or they may sit back and watch how it goes. There are no guarantees of big profits ahead for Wear watches.
Sony
It s silly if Sony not included in partners of AndroidWear
that list u saw had problem!
Sony SmartWatch was first real smart-wearable so sony will be one of the best manufacture to use androidWear and also develop it..
