Motorola announced on their hangouts chat that it will be bringing android L to (old) moto g as well. But IMO we will probably get it later than the new version..
That's some great news!

Yup, listen the video from 21.00 mint.
He told past version can also expect/ will get the next L upgrade after New Moto G update:good:.
What i think is "Probability for Legacy Moto G upgrade is more, since New & Legacy version have same base H/W configuration, Except Camera & SD card slot (On major end of change) so If 2nd Gen is updated than it will not be a big deal for Motorola to upgrade the legacy product also.. "
That's all I wanted to hear.. Thanks again Motorola for this awesome device!! Switching from Sony to Motorola was one of the best decisions I've made...
very good news for a very good phone :good:
Shouldn't be a issue as the new one has same spec as the old one except the screen size and SD card
Great! I couldn't be happier with this phone
Yea we would be getting l but how long is the question! I think next year mid June

Are you serious? Motorola tends to roll out Android updates rather quickly. I would guess by this November or December at the latest.

I thought he meant how long will it be supported til rather than when the L update would be released. Anyhow, either way, the L update would probably occur after the Moto G2 so dec/ Jan does seem reasonable. Of course it might take longer if you're locked with a carrier as we've already seen with 4.4.4.
Sorry I meant how we'd still get support for the device as seen in the pass where a lot of Moto devices lose support quickly

They will at least support it as long as L is the active release. I'm guessing at least another year. And since the new Moto G is the same basic chipset as the current version, maybe even longer.
Awesome news.. So it's probably not too far fetched we may see cm12 and more..

So I can see many people are happy with the moto g, I just got mine and actually felt bad, like I was a trader to Sony! They have always been my favorite since cell phones first came out pretty much, I am however enjoying the G for the most part, only thing is....I thought the G was the x I think. Is the X a better phone than the G? Should I stick with the G, or get the X? Honestly tho, I'd really like if the G had T9 as well, any apk suggestions for good t9 keyboards? The ones in play all suck.
Thanks everyone! I am kind of glad I made the switch from Sony,? lol

The Moto X is the higher end phone to the Moto G. Not necessarily better however. Better for some people might not be better for you. The Moto X has a faster SoC and more RAM, a slightly larger screen and additional always-on voice functionality. Software wise they are essentially the same.

I just ran away from Sony's side because the lack of updates.. That's why.. Besides, I started to like a lot more the AOSP UI rather that NXT UI on Sony devices... Just took a look at Xperia Z3 UI.. that battery icon is awful... too bad.. and that new launcher that looks like stock Android launcher just doesn't fit there, looks like Z3 comes with Nova Launcher as stock launcher.. That new UI on Sony (which will be present from now on in every Sony device) made me think I've made the right choice..

Yes ...but I just wish Punit soni does not leave moto too....He is former Google so maybe Google would just call him back
Anyway on giving it another thought Motorola is not based on ideas on one or a few people (unlike some fruity companies) Its work on collective thinking and am sure Lenovo has a track record of buying failing businesses and converting them into profits (The ibm thinkpad made them the No.1 pc manufacturer in the world).....I am sure they are gonna be the best thing for motorola Provided they ditch their own smartphone line
The more I've thought about it, the more I think this will be okay. Google gets bored easily, and I liken them to a kid in a candy store, hyped up on sugar and won't stop touching things. They like to be the first to something, but beyond that they have mediocre, beta products.
Bad news. He was one of the few CEOs that has great experience, but thinks as a 20 year-old guy (which is great, as he knows what people like).

I am big on build quality, "radios", and battery life, and that's why I've loved Moto. Samsung has never truly impressed me in those areas. I don't know enough about HTC, other than messing with my Dads Rezound, so I will reserve judgment there.

Yeah, I however am all right with the "to each their own" thingy and respect that too, but not for this case. All human beings have somewhat same kind of hand, I mean in size, yeah there are people with big hands, but I am talking from a general point of view here. It's like shoes, you get a new one every year or so, but do you keep getting a bigger size?
Human hands and it's size are a constant factor, unfortunately the mobile phone sizes are not! I find it soooooo weird!
I feel everyone here on the size issue. I had a Note 3, and the size was just to much. I did a great deal of research on what to buy, and the Moto X just kept coming up as a phone that had so, so many useful features. Don't get me wrong, the Note 3 came packed with features, but after a few months, many of them came off as gimmicky. I owned Sammy devices since the original Galaxy S (S2, S3, Note 3). Since having this nifty little device on my hands, I've never looked back. Motorola proved a well designed device is much more than what's under the hood, it's also how a manufacturer utilizes that hardware. The Galaxy line has always been well made and amply powered, yet I find the engineering and software design of the Moto X to be downright clever.

I'm a pretty new moto x owner as well (about a month), and the first thing I noticed around was that people liked to say how much they liked this phone; almost more so than I when I creeped with the Bionic crowd.
And I have to throw in my agreement. It's such a good feeling device. A friend loaned me an s4 while I had a trial X from moto for 2 weeks.
The s4 is a nice device with a great screen, but just a bit uncomfortable in my hand. And I couldn't get over the thin fragile feel of it.
In my opinion the X has a solid feel, I don't feel like it could break in my hand. At times I notice that it's a bit heavy of a phone, but that may be why it feels more solid as well.
tapa'd on my moto x
Reasons why I'll never buy a Samsung S4/5/6
-Size
-Touchwiz
-Slow updates
-Gimmicky features
-Confusing UI thanks to Touchwiz
-Cheap build quality
Well I have to say, or rather share my depression from the lack of custom ROMS, zip, zilch, nada...
Since selling my Nexus 5, I've been checking the forums on this device more then I care to admit, hoping I see some [ROM] tags start to pop up on topics, I feel like i'm going through a withdraw, and a sudden withdraw, it's hard...
I don't even have a reason to root, other then trying to get some apps to work, couple that with the idea that unlocking bootloader on my Moto X 2014 Pure Edition feels like i'm doing something wrong, the act of doing that somehow downgrades the device, despite the device not loosing warranty...
Last concern is that flashing a custom recovery, and/or unrooting, updating OTA's, and flashing in general feels still untested/dangerous on this device.
I feel hopeless, I feel like I want to get the OnePlus One, and sell this device - The OPO Is so much cheaper, so much more for the money, plus it's got a TON of ROMs for it!.
Nexus 4 owner here. I feel ya! But this phone is as close to perfect as we can get. The only thing that bothers me is that we have to choose between moto display or ambient display. Imagine ambient display working with the sensors. So many possibilities with this phone. Maybe the dev section will blossom soon.
Yeah the dev support for both Moto Xs has been pretty scarce. I used to flash A LOT on my old HTC last year but I finally settled down with Paranoid Android. I'm rooted but there's no urge to flash for me mainly because of how barebones lollipop roms are. It's funny & a bit disheartening to be honest that my 2 year old device has multiple lollipop roms though :/
I come from a S3 [i9300] and I know the feel!! My External SD Card was filled only with CWM Backups / Titanium Backups and a range of roms
Had a 16 GB external SD card + 16 internal.. Don't miss the storage but yes do miss the flashing of the ROMs

Ambient Display is nice, I love it.
Was never a big fan of moto display, maybe if it was a bit more interesting, maybe if they did some more design to it to update it a bit, I would totally looooove if they did something with it that looks like the b&w side of this one
Or did something interesting with rendering the background dimly of the phone

If you're unhappy with the lack of custom ROMs you could always learn how to develop and get the ball rolling. There are plenty of resources available.
I used to have the Moto G before this beast and I am more than happy. In my old G I used to flash Roms every week but that was more for the lack of performance and sensors. Now I am with moto X 1097 and I converted it to 1095 and I have to say: that's all I need. I hope with time developers will surprise us with some great things but by now this phone is close to perfect

Interesting... I think that the main reason why there are no roms is that almost everyone that has this phone is more than happy with the features we have. I used to be like that too. When I first got my first moto x I thought it was absurd not having roms for it. Then I started noticing how fast the phone was and I found that most of the stuff I looked for on roms (improved performance and no bloatware) was already there! Same goes for the new x. Between lollipop and moto software I really see no point.

I'm hoping what I did with my note 3 doesn't happen to me again..there was 0 development for the first 6 months or so of device release and I sold it..a month later there were a ton of ROMs available.. That being said I'm happy currently without a ROM..but I am watching the thread in original development closely as he has brought some great cm ROMs to devices that weren't supported in the past
I grew tired of flashing ROMs years ago. The Moto X is super refreshing in that it is perfect the way it is and I don't need to flash a ROM to get it to perform the way I want. Just use Xposed and a couple modules and I am a happy camper.

I couldn't disagree more. KitKat is a fully functional finished product whereas Lollipop still has a loooong way to go. I have an L ROM on my N5 and I play with it from time to time. It has its pluses, but KitKat for me is perfect. Especially when you throw Xposed into the mix. To each his own though, you know?

I agree 100% with Diesel
For the others with a problem of no ROMS, why not take the time you spent flashing ROMS and learn to develop a new ROM. You will get what you want and make plenty of others happy at the same time. The tools are free and readily available if you search.

Hello, i just wanted bring all of you together to read this thread. Ok so i know since you've been a Moto owner, you've heard or seen at least once insulting comment about your device or the Motorola company. For example, "Anything that Motorola makes sucks" "People only get them because they're cheap" "That phone is crappy". I know that those people are ignorant to other people's liking. I'm tired of hearing the same thing. A lot of people that own super expensive high end- flashy smartphones say things like that about devices like the Moto series. Well that really offends me, just because they might not be the most high-end smartphones or the most expensive smartphones doesn't mean they are worthless. We Moto owners take great pride in our device, we appreciate what we have and we value our smartphones.
If someone offered me a brand new Galaxy S6 and a brand new Moto X and said i could only pick one. I would pick the Moto X hands down without a doubt in my mind. Because I know, We know what matters in a smartphone. What is that? User experience and performance for the price. That's what a review comes down to at the end of the day. A company could make a super spec'd out smartphone but get the same review score as a phone a fraction of its cost. I know if i were to buy a $1000 smartphone it better be great in every aspect and i know if i bought a smartphone for half that price, i'm not expecting it to be perfect but i want to have a good performance. That's exactly what motorola does, it gives you a great performing phone for the price.
For example, the Moto G. It has a low price point but does everything you need it to do. If I want a super powerful gaming machine of a smartphone, I'm not going to buy the Moto G. Then give a bad review for not being able to do what i wanted it to. I'm gonna buy a smartphone with a powerful chipset. At the end of the day we Moto owners stand out. Other people don't seem to understand our taste in smartphones value. Im not saying if you own a super expensive phone you're a bad person or anything. I'm just saying you get what you pay for. All of you Moto owners, good job in picking a smartphone. It doesn't matter if you have a Moto E, a Moto G or a Moto X. We all are equal and unified. #Teammoto
Proof that price doesn't matter
So much wall of text. So many extra words...
TL;DR how bout a paragraph break?
I have a Moto X 2013 and I had recently acquired a Samsung Galaxy S4. The S4 ran hotter, slower, and had screen issues. I ended up selling it for less than it cost for me to buy and repair the Galaxy S4. Custom rom support for the samsung galaxy S4 was amazing. I really look forward to seeing how the Moto X 2013 handles with lollipop.

Mods, please do everyone a favor and close this thread. While I truly appreciate someone trying to start something positive here about the Moto X, after the last couple of posts, I can see exactly where this thread is going and it's not a nice place. I'm all for people expressing their opinion but I think that it may be better for everyone that's on this forum to nip it in the bud. It's already starting to go downhill and this thread was started earlier today.
By the way, I do own a Moto X (2013) Developer Edition and think that it's a wonderful phone. The screen went black on the one that I owned all of a sudden a week and a half ago. I called Motorola and got a warranty replacement within one week. Thank goodness I had a Samsung Galaxy S3 that I could use as a backup but when I got my Moto X back, I realized the exact reason why I love the Motorola smartphones. Samsung Galaxy S3 drags when you compare it to the Moto X (2013) Developer Edition.
Glad to have my little speed demon back.
Coming from a proud Motorola Moto X owner.
Motorola is lame in case of updating moto x to lollipop while other phones are being updated as soon as new firmware is available.

That's odd. The only Android phones that I know of that get the updates as soon as the new firmware is available are the Nexus line of smartphones. All of the other ones, you do have to wait a little while before the update rolls out. You know, sometimes it is not the phone manufacturer's fault that the update is delayed. Sometimes it can be because of something on your wireless phone carrier's end. I know Verizon is famous for delaying the releases until all of their bloatware will work with the phone's update. I've experienced it on multiple phones with them (Samsung and Motorola) and that part is very frustrating. There is no need in throwing Motorola under the bus on this.

Well, that's just an anomaly. Normally, Samsung is slow as molasses about their updates. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 Wi-Fi model and it hasn't received the Lollipop update yet. My sister has the S5 and she got her Lollopop update fairly quickly but her phone doesn't work as well as my Moto X does now. Wonder if Samsung pushed it out too quickly and didn't get all of the bugs out. Some of my friends have the Samsung phones that got the Lollipop update and while it runs okay, they also have issues with this new update.
Something to ponder. Maybe we ought to be patient and wait for the parties involved to get all the little kinks worked out of this update before they roll it out to everyone.
According to sources and Motorola the new MOTO X will be released in September. As a new pure edition unlocked to activate on all major carriers. Will you be buying one?

I'm surprised they didn't go for USB-C instead of Micro USB port. Also, inexplicable why Play version has bigger battery than Style.
wish they sold both Xs in the US, wouldn't mind a MotoX Play (US) with 5" screen. Moto offered me a Nexus 6 as a replacement device recently, but, after playing with a co-worker's N6, I couldn't get a phone that big.
I was surprised that they didn't talk about software improvements... I was hoping Motorola would add more assist/voice features
But price is a huge positive....
May be there is no huge software improvements, so I guess I will skip the 2015 model and look forward for 2016
What made me not sell the Nexus 6, that I got on contract for free, instantly was the fact that the Moto X's performance was just poor. After the 5.1 update I tried to switch back to this phone multiple times but Motorola's software doesn't run smooth. Launcher redraws almost all the time. And that's what makes me skeptical about the 2015 Moto X. The size seems okay. Coming from a 6 inch phone 5.7 is okay and as I have big hands I don't have a problem with this kind of screensize. However I absolutely hate the use of a LCD screen when having a feature like Moto Display. But on the other hand this will get at least rid of the burn in on AMOLED which both my Nexus 6 and Moto X had the first signs of after just a few weeks of usage.
I will probably just look what the price for the phone is here in Germany and then probably sell the N6 if it's worth it.

Well as far as software improvements go, Motorola doesn't add much to stock Android other than the Moto enhancements (assist, voice, etc) like other OEM's. Personally Touchwiz, Sense, and LG s skins are a little over the top. Is that what you meant by software improvements?

No no,
I was talking about improvements to the existing moto app. Like adding more commands or making it work even when the phone is in offline mode, something like that

If they will have more commands ready then they will release the app update through play store, that way previous Moto X versions will also receive the updates.
