Moto X - General Chit-Chat

Yeah, its general chit-chat thread for the Moto X. there are some talks, question which don't' deserve dedicated threads so decided to put a common thread for such talks.

Here is promotional video of the MotoX. I want to know which audio track is this? Maybe this is Motorola's own track which may not be available as commercial but I am in love with the track, especially the track gets interesting at the ending. Want to know what genre is this or any other closest audio track which resembles with this. Here is the video, please listen:

Seems like the 17th is the rumor

Can we expect this kind of durability form the new Moto X ?? I don't think so. Bigger the phone grows, more fragile it. And the new model seems like has turned into more delicate device after adding that bigger display and thing metallic bezel.
I also seen similar tests for Samsung Galazy (S5 or similar) and LG G3 and all of them failed the tests.

What do you all think will happen with Moto since Punit Soni resigned? If someone is knowledgeable in business matters, with the company still do what they've been doing without the VP of product management?

No doubt he have had important role during Motorola's recovery days so this is definitely a loss. But here is another important thing that Motorola could fight back because of one magic combination : Google+Motorola.
Now Google doesn't seem to be interested in manufacturing thus they sold Motorola to Lenovo after doing bit of successful experiments and keeping few Motorola patents with them. We have seen how good the three models launched by Motorola under Google's ownership have turned out.
Future success and reputation of Motorola will depend on how Lenovo operates the company. They bought ThinkPad unit from IBM and carried the character of those laptops. But they didn't buy the whole brand so obviously they didn't use the IBM brand name with those laptops. Here they have bought the whole company along with brand name so I just hope that they let the Motorola keep going in it's own way, they don't mix Moto phones with their own phones and sell the mobile phones with Motorola brand name. Motorola has got it's own fan following which has just increased in the past one year because of distinct image their phones .have built up in recent time. Lenovo should respect expectations of those fans.
I am hoping for good but smelling mixed kind of probabilities.

Based on the way they treated the thinkpad branding, I think there is a good chance they will make Motorola/Moto a line of the Lenovo brand. Lenovo are very good at driving down supply-chain cost. I think Motorola actually has a chance to increase global market share with them as a lower-price alternative to Samsung built with decent product design and quality. I'm not sure that is what I would want, but it would keep Motorola relevant.

Lenovo shouldn't touch Motorola's product design and stuff. The only thing they should touch is the marketing side of it all. Maybe some of the camera stuff and battery also, but Moto is onto something with their Moto X lineup, and it'll only get better

i have the phone in my hands. so far, MUCH better than my Nexus 4. the speed is there. the audio for the music is a tad bit better. the back of the phone is nice, it feels smooth but not slippery. i need to test battery now, so i will post that in the other thread

Been using an iPhone 5s for 4 months. Oh boy how much I miss android . using art as well

Cool. I'm upgrading from nexus 4 as well. Mines coming in tomorrow! My nexus 4 was still perfectly smooth though.

My Nexus 4 was dying in the battery department and it would always heat up. Moto X seems like the best mix of a Nexus and a consumer focused phone. I say consumer focused because Nexus phones have been targeted toward devs

I did say what the back of the phone is like earlier. What else do you want to know about the plastic? It's smooth but not too slippery. I don't think it's soft touch

I cant decide if I want to get this. I loved the original Moto X but now I have the M8, which is great - no complaints, but I must confess I'm a phone junky (aren't we all?). I've looked at so many reviews and the only thing that still bothers me is the camera, and battery life compared to the M8. But then there's the next to pure android experience and motomaker....so tough.

Barely Used My Verizon Moto X 2014 Gonna Get Rid of It

As soon as the Nexus 6 is released on Verizon I am getting it and selling the Moto X 2014. The N6 is too big for me to be my daily driver but I will have to learn to deal with the size because I can root the N6.
I really like the Moto X 2014 but no root really sucks. I am sorry I bought it. Nice leather back, perfect size, great Moto features like active display, assist, etc.
I'm so bummed. But I can't be happy if I can't root and do with my phone what I want. Everytime I look at it I just feel sadness instead of the excitement I felt with my OG Moto X 2013.
The resale value really sucks too. Who would want an Android phone you can't root? Even iPhones have jailbreak!!!! Gah, I would be better off with a Verizon iPhone 6 than a Verizon Moto X 2014. Unbelievable.
I know, it didn't have root before I bought it, I knew. But I had hope that either a code would be available for sale or a dev would get lucky and find an exploit. I really wanted this to be my phone. Oh well, someone else who doesn't care about root will get a good deal.
I've learned my lesson - I will never buy a phone unless root is available BEFORE I buy it. I think if the N6 is just too big, I will get the M9 if it gets root.

They don't work on Verizon. If it were that simple that is what all of us on Verizon would do.

LOL! No, Motorola should be ashamed. A jailbroken iPhone is a HUGE IMPROVEMENT over an unrootable Android. Obviously you know nothing about jailbroken iPhones.
Don't be a mindless Android fanboi. iPhones have some good features and if you can jailbreak them they are MILES ABOVE an unrooted Android. Until ICS, Android was a primitive, laggy operating system whose only strong point was the ease of root. From ICS on it is much better but still, without root, it's got nothing on a jailbroken iPhone.

Maybe if it meant that much to you, next time do research before you buy.

So um no, dude, research isn't the issue. Is English not your first language? Cuz if it is, you need to work on your reading comp skills.

I don't have one, but looked at one and do know what it is like... which is a big reason why I switched to T-Mobile.
I think your gripe is more with Verizon than Motorola. It is big red that doesn't want you rooting your phone. There were numerous issues with Verizon and Nexus models as well, which is why a number of Nexus models ignored them. Moto isn't Apple. If they want their device registered on big red's network, they have to do as big red says.

And if root matters so much to you, why are you so dependent on a carrier that tries to lock down their devices? Why not get unlocked devices on a GSM carrier? Only reason to stick with big red is if you're grandfathered into unlimited data or if they're literally the only adequate carrier in your area.

I am also thinking about getting rid of Moto X, I am tired of waiting and there is no guarantee that it will be rooted. I really miss xposed and tethering.

I know how you feel and it really is a shame because the phone is great other than lack of root.
I hope the M9 can be rooted. If so I will get that and sell the Nexus b/c I think the Nexus is just going to be too big.

Until it's released, there's no guarantee the bootloader is unlockable, or that it can be rooted, although I'm confident it will be.
Google has much more pull than Moto when it comes to dictating to Verizon about how their device will be used.
You also must be aware that there are no guarantees the M9 will be unlockable or rooted, right? Just because the M7 and M8 were exploitable doesn't mean the M9 will be.
You truly need to use a carrier other than Verizon if you want the freedom to unlock/root your devices. Everyone knows that

What? Nexus 6 is like developer phone. Google doesn't allow Verizon to lock it because it's a nexus. Everyone will go with pitchforks to Verizon if they lock nexus. If Verizon insists they want to lock down nexus then Google will say no thanks and Verizon will not carry it.
Motorola or other OEMs don't have the balls to show the middle finger to the worst carrier in the world who craps every phone with ugly logos and locked devices.

For every reason that this thread started is why I left Verizon. My first smartphone was the Motorola Droid. I loved it. There were rumors that VZW would cut off unlimited data if you didn't switch to LTE now (then 2011? I forget)... so I got the best available LTE phone at the time - Samsung Droid Charge. It was the biggest mistake even with root. I vowed to never get another Samsung. Then the Galaxy Nexus happened. I got that but VZW wasn't good at updating it and I wasn't all too happy with the ROMs or its screen burn-in. I held on to that unlimited data as long as possible but good device options were severely lagging. I tried out T-Mobile with a Nexus 4 that went on sale at Google Play. It was a hard decision, but one month later I took control and switched completely to T-Mobile when the Nexus 5 came out. Best. Experience. Yet.
Why am I here? My Moto X PE just arrived and it has in common what my other devices have had - an unlocked/able bootloader. So in a long round-about way, what I'm trying to say is you might be best to switch carriers as mentioned earlier in the thread. If T-Mobile isn't a choice there's always AT&T, or any smaller MVNO, or pre-paid. You'll never have to worry about choices because it's all YOURS to make. If VZW is the only one with adequate service in your area, then it looks like your available device options will be very severely limited. I hardly believe Motorola is the one to blame here.

That's not my point. My point is that VERIZON didn't allow the Nexus 4 or the Nexus 5 on their network. Why did Verizon allow the N6?

All Moto G Owners Please Read

Hello, i just wanted bring all of you together to read this thread. Ok so i know since you've been a Moto owner, you've heard or seen at least once insulting comment about your device or the Motorola company. For example, "Anything that Motorola makes sucks" "People only get them because they're cheap" "That phone is crappy". I know that those people are ignorant to other people's liking. I'm tired of hearing the same thing. A lot of people that own super expensive high end- flashy smartphones say things like that about devices like the Moto series. Well that really offends me, just because they might not be the most high-end smartphones or the most expensive smartphones doesn't mean they are worthless. We Moto owners take great pride in our device, we appreciate what we have and we value our smartphones.
If someone offered me a brand new Galaxy S6 and a brand new Moto X and said i could only pick one. I would pick the Moto X hands down without a doubt in my mind. Because I know, We know what matters in a smartphone. What is that? User experience and performance for the price. That's what a review comes down to at the end of the day. A company could make a super spec'd out smartphone but get the same review score as a phone a fraction of its cost. I know if i were to buy a $1000 smartphone it better be great in every aspect and i know if i bought a smartphone for half that price, i'm not expecting it to be perfect but i want to have a good performance. That's exactly what motorola does, it gives you a great performing phone for the price.
For example, the Moto G. It has a low price point but does everything you need it to do. If I want a super powerful gaming machine of a smartphone, I'm not going to buy the Moto G. Then give a bad review for not being able to do what i wanted it to. I'm gonna buy a smartphone with a powerful chipset. At the end of the day we Moto owners stand out. Other people don't seem to understand our taste in smartphones value. Im not saying if you own a super expensive phone you're a bad person or anything. I'm just saying you get what you pay for. All of you Moto owners, good job in picking a smartphone. It doesn't matter if you have a Moto E, a Moto G or a Moto X. We all are equal and unified. #Teammoto

Most people I talk to in my cell phone repair shop are ignorant to Motorola smartphones. They see my phone and ask what it is. Then they say that it looks nice.

Let those say whatever they want to because they are not aware of the fact that Motorola is the one who created mobile industry, rest are just parts of this industry. Real innovator is Motorola, rest just follow up whatever is left out by Motorola. Even today no other phone can beat a MotoX in terms of 'smartness', rest just feel dumb phones in front of a Moto X.
Motorola users don't need to frequently change their devices because they are more durable, can keep going for few generations of OS versions, come at cheaper price point. A 2-3 years Moto can easily keep going till the next Moto replaces it. You hardly see other brand's phones over 2 years old in anyone's hands. Others just fight needless specs war whereas specs is not everything. so called small battery and poor camera of my MotoX never miss the chance of surprising me by their performance, thats engineering, not just putting useless counts of cores or big spec battery or a high pixel density display which unnecessarily eats up the additional CPU power or battery.
Offcourse there are flaws in the Moto devices also but others are much more flawed. I am currently fighting a consumer court case against poor after sales service provided by Motorola when they took forever to repair a defective MotoE under warranty but that bad incident isn't enough to reduce my love and respect towards the Motorola brand.
Their strong comeback in the market after going completely dead is one more reason to buy their devices because it motivates to wake up and fight in the life, doesn't matter whatever trouble life throws on us. :good:

the sad thing is that we are on a new level of "low" on the Dev part of our community.. only a few roms and most of them 5.0.x, only one custom kernel and only for CM based roms.. id love to have a custom kernel on my stock but rooted to be able to play with synapse to tamper with settings to "beast-out" ok gaming and more out of battery for everyday use..

Motorola is still a great manufacturer, designer, innovater of awesome phones! The X series are the living proofs of this! Many users hate the company now because motorola promised them faster updates and has been really slow and non transparent in terms of updates!
I think motorola has done a great job in terms of updates and phones in general! Leaving the S6 which had 5.0 out of the box, no other manufacturer has provided 5.1 update to any of their phones yet other than the nexus line! People would never understand that 5.0 to 5.0.2 were buggy! They just want an update so they could think less of it and start complaining about the next version of android not being given to them in time! I say such people should buy nexus phones to get timely updates and stop the ranting!
For other people who have a higher price higher spec phones dont know much about android. They just buy a high spec phone thinking its future proof and later understand that there are many more newer innovations at a lesser price. Such people always keep wasting money in those high specs! Motorola doesn't provide high specs. But it provides the perfect balance of specs and working and useful features in their phones which are more useful in daily use and thus it makes the phones a daily driver.
The only problem with their phone is the fragile screen. Its glass and glass tends to break when it takes a hit. But the cost to replace it is too much! In India we need to pay 75% of the purchase cost to get the screen replaced! That's what is keeping people from buying motorola!

I got my s3 when it was a flagship device and had a Samsung phone earlier. The primary reason I got the moto X was the price due to the cyber Monday sale. I saved up anticipating that the nexus 6 would be around the same price as the 5 but it turned out to be very expensive for me.
I had a few apprehensions before getting this device as I had never owned a moto device, but the X has exceeded my expectations! For the price, I don't think any other phone offers similar build quality and specs. Sure a bigger battery or a SD card slot would have been sweet but I feel that this is the perfect blend of stock plus nifty Moto features. I'm so used to active display now that I don't think I can actually use a device without it!
As far as updates are concerned, I'd rather have a fully functional 5.1 build rather than a messed up quickly released and buggy one. The delay has been a little annoying with multiple soak tests but if it results in a near bug free build then I'd rather wait!
All in all very satisfied with the phone.

All Moto E 2015 Owners Please Read

Hello, i just wanted bring all of you together to read this thread. Ok so i know since you've been a Moto owner, you've heard or seen at least once insulting comment about your device or the Motorola company. For example, "Anything that Motorola makes sucks" "People only get them because they're cheap" "That phone is crappy". I know that those people are ignorant to other people's liking. I'm tired of hearing the same thing. A lot of people that own super expensive high end- flashy smartphones say things like that about devices like the Moto series. Well that really offends me, just because they might not be the most high-end smartphones or the most expensive smartphones doesn't mean they are worthless. We Moto owners take great pride in our device, we appreciate what we have and we value our smartphones.
If someone offered me a brand new Galaxy S6 and a brand new Moto X and said i could only pick one. I would pick the Moto X hands down without a doubt in my mind. Because I know, We know what matters in a smartphone. What is that? User experience and performance for the price. That's what a review comes down to at the end of the day. A company could make a super spec'd out smartphone but get the same review score as a phone a fraction of its cost. I know if i were to buy a $1000 smartphone it better be great in every aspect and i know if i bought a smartphone for half that price, i'm not expecting it to be perfect but i want to have a good performance. That's exactly what motorola does, it gives you a great performing phone for the price.
For example, the Moto G. It has a low price point but does everything you need it to do. If I want a super powerful gaming machine of a smartphone, I'm not going to buy the Moto G. Then give a bad review for not being able to do what i wanted it to. I'm gonna buy a smartphone with a powerful chipset. At the end of the day we Moto owners stand out. Other people don't seem to understand our taste in smartphones value. Im not saying if you own a super expensive phone you're a bad person or anything. I'm just saying you get what you pay for. All of you Moto owners, good job in picking a smartphone. It doesn't matter if you have a Moto E, a Moto G or a Moto X. We all are equal and unified. #Teammoto
Proof that price doesn't matter

What this thread has to do? I thought like you before I bought Moto E 2015. This phone works like crap on 5.0.2. Really, I'm very disappointed. I know this is not high end phone but it works worse than my old xperia or my old galaxy tab 2. It's not 100% Motorola fault but they shouldn't provide so buggy software and there is no 5.1.1 update that can fix that (there is only 5.1 in USA which doesn't fix memory leaks). Well I'm probably going to send this phone back to the shop.

I'm also disappointed by the 5.0.2 firmware. It's not as fast as I'd expect it to be, and some bugs that are annoying that are not in the Moto G Lollipop firmware (such as the recent apps bug). Nonetheless, I still like it and the 5.1 update is pretty good I've heard. Bugs fixed and a faster phone overall. You can flash it if you can't stand the phone's performance.
I like Motorola, I find it to be one of the best brands, along with HTC, Samsung, LG and Sony. The stock firmwares are great, and they're simply the best for the price, except for the Moto X, of course, if you care about PERFORMANCE and not a great camera or great resolution (such as this phone).
