So screwed... My Note 3 suddenly wont charge. 70% of the time it doesn't recognize that a charger has been connected. 30% of the time I get an error saying its not charging to protect the phone, and I need to use my original charger. Of course, this is WITH the original charger and cable. I get the same error message with other chargers or connecting to my PC.
I need to get it to Samsung for warranty service, but I am on Beans 6. I dont know what to do. I have 3% and its draining fast. I cant get it charged enough to return to stock.
Help!!! Any suggestions? Is there some known issue with a quick fix? I have rebooted, removed battery, rebooted, rebooted, tried all the different chargers/cables/PCs.... I dont know where to go from here.
Thank you!!!
You can buy a universal battery charger from Radio Shack and charge your battery that way.
Hopefully your PC can still recognize your phone so you can flash it back to stock.

I ordered a wireless charging pad from Amazon. Hopefully that works. If it's just the port, it should.
What's odd is my PC can still recognize the phone. Or could, before it died completely. I backed up my perishables to it.
Guess we'll wait and see on Monday.
In the meantime you can go on amazon and get the Anker battery kit. It comes with an external charger and two batteries. It costs just $30. I got tired of having to replace my samsung charger due to crap quality so I tried this and it's great. Obviously you'll still have to figure out what to do when you connect to the computer but you can get the Anker kit for now
Your usb port is probably faulty. You can change it yourself, its actually pretty easy. They sell for around $15 on ebay.

Im sorry if this had been posted before i didnt really find it. could have been asking the wrong questions and in advance thank you for pointing me in any direction or any help. okay to the issue, i bought some cheap china batts on ebay just to keep charged in my pocket for boarding (music, video, pandora rip throuh batts) or just for whenever. i norm just use the oem samsung battery but when switching it the other day i must had missed my pocket and dropped my oem off the lift or something. when i use these other non oem batts the phone says cannot connect to battery. i cant not charge it (not a problem because have like a just batt charger so i swap back and forth) or my comp wont see it cuz of the usb wont connect. how do i fix this besides buying a new oem batt? (hurttin on cash between xmas and moving into my first place) for 30 bucks i can just deal for now. and fixes at all?
From what I've heard, the phone will not recognize a non-OEM battery so you will just have to continue using the separate battery charger for now. Just keep them all charged I guess until you can save up for an OEM battery.

I use the Seidio battery and it works fine.
how much and where can i find one?
I can confirm your issue. I purchased 4 batteries with 2 wall chargers in October for $20 shipped and my facinate will not reconize them. Besides having to charge them in the wall charger they work great. Hate to say this but you will need to buy either a wall charger to charge them or an OEM battery...

yeah i bought the same thing u did 2 batt and 1 charger X2 so im good on the charging just no data transfer to my sd card.....or charging while im in bed. oh well thought id ask thanks for your help
My nexus so far seems great but i have this issue and idk if its a defect or idk? When i go to charge my phone with the stock AC adapter and even a HTC adapter it starts charging on AC then sometimes switches to USB and charges slower. And I have to like plug it in and out a few times for it to finally catch as AC its super annoying and my GNex never had that issue. And when i want to use the phone on AC the Charge Drops significantly sometimes discharging and im not even doing anything intensive. Does anyone have this issue? Is it a problem with the USB cable maybe? Or do you think this is a defect? Because its about to be 14 days and i dont have much left to get an RMA cause its what im considering and if I need it i dont have 380 dollars in my bank account either if i do need it so idk how that would work. Any help would be appreciated Thanks!
It lowers the incoming current, by dropping to usb charge, to help keep the battery cooler. They seem to be really trying to keep the battery temp down on this thing.
Ordered my Nexus 4 on the 13th. Still waiting.
Really? Do you know the temps? Or does anyone? Cause sometimes it changes to USB after plugging it in for like 5 mins and i wouldnt think it gets that hot that quick. And when i finally get the AC to seem to stick the temps go up to 30-35 degrees celcius as normal and im getting around 850mah and it doesn't drop to usb charging it just drops current sometimes mainly when im using it obviously. So idk if it really is what you say or maybe someone could elaborate more?
I just want to get to the bottom of this issue so to know if i need to get an RMA :/
I forgot to mention that it also seems to randomly switch between AC/USB/UNPLUGGED really fast sometimes and i have to unplug and replug to get a charge I have no idea why.. I really want to know if its a software issue or hardware. Thats my main concern.
Woww this makes sense Ive been trying to figure out why this freaking thing was taking so long to charge. this reminds me of the galaxy s and how long that thing took. hopefully this is a software bug and they can get this thing worked out

Yea idk if its a hardware or software bug im hoping software but i may just do an RMA incase if i can ill call google tommorow. And if you want to check how your phone is charging you can download Battery Monitor Widget it shows the mah and all that.
I have that same problem with the charger that came in the box.once it goes to USB it take forever to charge but when I use the charger from my gnex it stays on ac and charges really fast not once does it goes to USB.so I tried the N4 charger on my HTC thunderbolt and gnex and both would go into USB mode and charge really slow.

For what it's worth, my Nexus 4 *NEVER* charges in an AC mode using the OEM charging plug, regardless of which power point / cable I use with it. And to charge from 'critical' to 100% took about 7 hours last night. Wtf.
It's been RMA'd as I don't believe this to be correct behaviour. Perhaps also related, the USB computer connection has stopped working. It'll charge via USB but won't connect to any computer.

Hmm so did you use the Gnex charger like the USB cable and AC adapter? Cause ive just used the ac adapters with the N4 Lg USB cable. It makes me think that the USB cable is **** to. I need to find another USB to test this out.

Yep, tried a whole bunch of different power sockets, usb charger plugs and cables. Still screwed. The more I read, the more its obvious that the devices behaviour isn't correct.
You should send it back because mine charges fine. It takes 2-3 hours to charge mine to full from empty. I'm using the charger and USB cable that came with the phone.
I'm actually facing the same thing, I slept for 3 hours and woke up to my phone being only 60% charged. I tried plugging it in and out a couple of times, and now its back to AC and not switching to USB anymore.
In using Franco kernel and even enabling USB fast charge doesn't keep it from showing USB.

Yea mine is missing it to I wonder if that is why? And i just got my RAVpower external battery and that usb has all the pins and i tried to charge my phone with the lg brick and the ravpower usb and it seems to charge fine goes to ac every time. So im really wondering if its the LG USB that i got and it being faulty or not. I need to get another USB to test this out. Cause i dont want to swap out an entire phone for just a usb..
I've noticed mine charges as USB when using the stock LG charger. I had put it down to the 3 metre USB cable it was attached to, but I guess it's just a pants charger.
I just started having the same problem since Sunday. Had the phone for 2wks now. I had the same problem with my gs2. I really don't like these adaptor charger now a days. I go for the straight wall charger. Seems to work best. I think it's better because it doesn't convert to a usb cord as well, I don't know but I went ahead and ordered this one. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=150959459340 should be here Friday. it says original OEM charger for E960 nexus 4. We'll see.. I suggest direct wall charger instead of those USB adaptor that come with phones now.
I just looked at my USB charger from lg, it has 4 gold pins. Seems like they're all there, how many are there suppose to be??

That actually sounds like a good idea and should hopefully work! I need to order one. Still debating on Getting an RMA cause i dont want **** phone or worse phone..
Correction And it should have like 2 gold outer pins and 3 gold inner pins and mine and I guess a few other people have the outer pins but only 2 inner pins im missing the left most inner pin.
I just starting having this issue last night...out of nowhere while the phone was plugged in, it said "Unable to charge. Use the original charger."
The odd thing is it actually charges a little in between the messages popping up, so it makes no sense...it's an obvious contradiction. lol I did a reboot but that didn't fix it. I'm using the oem charger.
This morning it happened a few more times but after unplugging and plugging back in quite a few times, it seems to have stopped - it appears to be charging normally (for now), but I'm still concerned!
Any suggestions/ideas?

I've seen it happen now and then on my phone. Usually it just means the charger isn't very well suited. This happened when I was using the charger for an MSI Tablet that my wife uses and keeps plugged in in the living room. It does charge very very slowly.
On another note, I actually had the phone tell me last night while I was outside that the battery was too cold and that it couldn't charge while hooked up to my external battery pack.....now THAT was funny.
Were you using the original charger the whole time? If so your USB port might be going bad?? I had to replace mine on my Galaxy Nexus which was a Samsung.

Hey, yeah the same charger the whole time. This is very odd because now it's not doing it anymore. I just got the phone a few months ago so I can't imagine it's the USB port...that would be ridiculous!

Hey buddy I have the same issue. I am not sure if it is the USB 3.0 High Speed port. But what I did was use a stand micro USB cable with the original charger and it works. I am going to ask for a warranty exchange here shortly. But I suggest you try that.

True, that would be odd. I got mine just a week or so ago and it charges fine with the original 3.0 charger and my old 2.0 ones from my galaxy nexus. I'd just keep an eye on it and if it keeps happening, it may be worth getting a warranty replacement.

Hey man, it's funny that you say that because if it continued to not work that was the next thing I was gonna try (standard usb cable) thanks for letting me know I'm not alone here! It's kind of ridiculous that a two month old phone would have these sort of issues, especially at this price range...it's pretty much inexcusable.
If it continues to happen I'll be trying for the warranty exchange as well!
Thanks!

I'm having a severe case of this issue on my Note3.
No matter what charger cable I use (including 3.0 OEM), w an OEM base or not, no cable will charge and always gives me the "Use original charger" statement. The only way to currentlly power my device is via Qi Wireless or swap batteries.
I'm not sure what may have caused this.
The only big difference with my usage is I recently bought Anker batteries for swapping the OEM battery. But I've put my OEM back in and Im still getting this issue.
Dont kno if there's any relation but LG Qi Pad use to charge through the Seidio Dilex just fine, but now I have to take the case off. Qi Wireless charging still works fine on my Lugulake with the Dilex on though. Difference between then and now is I added a Skinomi on my back cover (excessive, i kno, for those occasional days when I want to go bare).
EDIT
my PC doesnt seem to detect my NOTE3 as a storage drive either when plugged in. Ugh, i may have a busted port. I wonder if I may have damaged it when installing my Skinomi. The adhesive requires heat to activate so I had plastic wrapped my phone and wrapped a hot towel around it to help thhe curves stick down (no it wasnt plugged in at the time)
other details, likely irrelevant, is I recently added a 64GB SDXC the device that previously didnt have external Storage.

Try a different USB power source (charger). They should be available worldwide.
Sent from my Note 3 via Tapatalk
Hey guys, recently went out and got a Note 4, went to a local tech store to sell my basically mint S4. They went through all the testing and we came to the conclusion that the phone wont take a charge. I was confused by this as was charging via the usb cord the day before. Before taking it into the store I obviously Odin flashed the stock firmware, and since then have tried a couple different tar files to no avail.
Has anyone else come across this particular issue? Honestly I am a little pissed as the selling of this device was intended to reduce the ridiculous cost of the Note 4.
The thing that i really dont understand is the usb port works fine when it comes to odin or connecting to a pc in general, it just wont take a charge. For the last year or so, I have not really charged via usb as I purchased a second battery with charger and have basicilly been switching batteries every time one is at about 5% with a full 100% replacement.
HELP PLEASE lol
Thanks
Celkin
Well check your S4 if it can be charged via a computer and the wall outlet.
1. Take the S4 and the S4 USB to micro cable, plug it and charge from the computer.
2. Try charging it from the wall outlet.
If both fail then it your charging port on the S4 may be damaged.
I personally caused water damage to my charging port and for 1 month I did exactly what you are doing.
I found a company that could repair the charging port for $50 (after negotiations) and my phone works like new.
I was also thinking of selling my S4 to the cell phone store for $170 or privately on Kijiji for around $350 or less to offset the cost of me getting a Note 4. But I ended up not getting a Note 4, i'll keep my S4 for another 6 months to a year. I still enjoy it.
How much were you getting from your tech store?
How do you like the Note 4?
Hey guys,
I was charging my note 4 with the adaptive fast charging today, and when I reached about 73% it stopped charging. The brick (plug) was bricked. Did not show any charging, thought it was my cable so i changed the cable around, but no success so I used a different charger (non adaptive fast charger) to charge it, which did work.
Upon discovering this I contacted Samsung and was told that non of my retail stores had any replacements in stock. Now i must wait for them to get a shipment of the order.
My questions are:
1. What could have caused this? My charger is only less than 2 months old.
2. Would using alternative chargers harm the battery or the phone?
Thanks in advance

Firstly, this should have been posted in the Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum.
Answers to your question:
1. Could be anything, from faulty charger out of the box but was working for a bit, to bad power socket, to lightning strike.
2. Using alternative charger won't harm your phone or battery. Maybe just untick Fast Charging when using other chargers.
Same issue

I had the same issue..the fast charger just wont charge my Note 4. Got the adapter and cable replaced. They didnt hve it in stock, had to wait a week. ..used the normal charger till them. Normal charger did its job, but took bit longer compared to the fast charger.
burning car charger, Note 4
I just purchased my Note 4, swapped out my sim and then connected it to my Belkin cigarette lighter/USB car charger.
5 minutes later travelling down a freeway ,when smoke started to pour out. I yanked out the chord and
still managed to burn myself with it. 2 weeks later I really needed to charge my phone while camping
thinking/hoping it was my old chargers fault. I also turned off fast charge and it blew my car's fuses and it got
super hot again within seconds. Is this normal. Do I need to know which USB's I can use and where?
Or is my phone busted?
just use a wireless qi charger. it avoids all these issues and no wires to worry about.
fast charging is bad for your phone and battery anyway.
So I cant charge my phone while I drive?
just get a wireless qi car charger cradle.
Has anybody used one of these?
Before I buy one I was wandering if anyone has used one and if its any good?
