just noticed my z2 photos got blurry and are not clear as I first bought the phone
so I checked my lens and I found what I thought was smudge and I tried to clean using my RayBan's cotton cloth which didnt really do anything and then when I checked up closer I found out that its either the lens coating peeled off or there is water inside
attached is some photos for the issue
before I was suffering from wifi issues and camera overheat, the maximum number of photos I could shoot in a single session never exceeded 15 to 20 photos before the camera shuts down due to overheat, I'm really regret not picking up the Z1 instead much cheaper and more reliable than this crappy phone, alas its too late

Service??
Xperia Z2
Check your glas with your thumb if you can feel the edge especially the right side where the big flap is...if you cant feel the edge then its caused by ungluing glass...send it to service
@s_superman
I fully agree with you regarding overheating problem. I don't have foggy camera problem with my device atm. But one camera session will last long for 3 to 4 mins only for taking photos. So I am fully disappointed.
Dont worry.. Sony already working on camera overheating, thats why we are still on 4.4.2
It is hardware issue, not software - they can only undervolt phone in 4K camera mode to limit heating....

Yeah you probably know better, LOL. Even if it is hardware issue, doesnt mean software cant be optimised to deal with it.
This is standard operating procedure according to Sony, it clears up after a while then all is fine as it's happened to me a few times

Did you give your Z2 a nice bath before this happened? Mine (14W20) too suffered from this issue a few days ago after I washed my Z2 under tap water. First of all you know nothing and just speculate, yet you talk like its a fact its hardware issue. Secondly that example is ridiculous and just shows how retarded you are. This involves huge amount of data, coding and optimisations, its not something as simple and mechanical as engine. And how come some of us can record in 4k for as long 20minutes?

I assume that you are a kind of payed activist / sympathizer from Sony. If somebody starts talking about Z2 and its hardware issues you come immediately and disprove it..." it is not true the Z2 is a perfect model and only some devices (countable) are affected" and anyway everybody is fool except you. I have been following the topic of Z2 for 2 months but I saw your name many times mainly in that threads where people are talking about faulty devices and you behave like described above. Sorry man but what you are doing is ridiculous...
Personally I have already had two devices but I sent it back because the first one had 2mm gap on right side, with the second one I could make a 4k movie for less than 1 minute. My colleague has also Z2 but neither can he make a 4k video longer than 3 minutes...but you couldn't know about it at this moment...just because you said once only some users are complaining...there are much more than you think but they won't register here...
You say always that is not a hardware issue...everybody can record a movie for different time so everybody has his own android version?
Don't be silly... it is about hardware / assembly issue and not software bug. Of course you can improve the time with hotfix but it won't fix the QA.
So don't be fool and stop behaving like a 8 year old child...
Sony has taken note of this problem on there forum about overheating and closing camera. There will be a fix for it. We will have to wait. I could not imagine Sony would put a product on the market with a hardware failure. That would mean the end of Sony. They will never sell a phone again.

Big words from you mr first time poster.
The issue isn't clear, its appears that some with earlier builds had more problems than those with later builds. Implying hardware for some most likely assembly issue. To say its a hardware issue implies a faulty design and there is no proof to support that. And that is what feis is challenging.
And those tweaking things around and improving performance for longer. Software.
Both in concert will improve things. Question is by how much and will it be acceptable.

I forgot to mention that mine is also 14w20 and I've sent it to the sony repair center and they received the phone and told me that they will contact me within a week after the technician checks it up, I will insist on a replacement or a refund as I'm fed up with this device.
I've always used HTC and never faced any of those silly issues and I've been a huge fan of the Z1 and my brother uses it without a single issue since release, as for the Z2, its the most crappy, issue-infested phone I've ever seen, and whats making me sad is that I've paid top dollar to get it in pre-order
My original Xperia Z started giving me foggy photos before it evidently died (almost died - sticky buttons plus spoiled speakers after rice bag treatment) to washing under a tap water. It probably is the same case here apparently and I suggest you should send it in for warranty. Sony did replace every single part in my Z when it came back, looking at the service log.

After going through this with my X1 which I took very good care of, I was sure to be extra careful with the X2.
SE blamed HTC for the design flaw that lead to cracks in the X1, well SE... what do you say about the X2 then???
After picking up my phone yesterday I felt a sharper more jagged feel near my camera button. I did not pay attention to it at first, but I felt it again and took a closer look. This is what I found!

Here you can see the crack goes through to where the metal tab for the battery cover locks.
So the question remains, was I just unlucky? Anybody else notice cracking there in that spot? Looking at it closely I can tell you it's awfully thin and I can't see it holding up for very long.
The only thing I can say that I do differently from the average X2 owner is swap out my batteries every day. I have a standalone charger and 2 spare batteries since my X1 and I prefer to swap fresh batteries every morning instead of using USB to charge so that I don't prematurely wear out (or break) the USB jack, as was a problem with some X1s. Surely this can't cause abnormal case cracking can it???
****, i jsut looked and i have a crack too.. omg i have taken good care of this phone
mtechfan your not alone with the swapping of the battery's each day i did this with my C902. i dont have a crack by the cam button but i have just noticed that were the stylis slides in the little clip that helped lock it in place is no longer there
Well, we better all check our phones!
If we look at this from a design view... I think that the plastic bit that has the clip, that holds onto the battery cover is too thin.
I can imagine the other one on the top side failing just the same.
the back cover hinges near to that point, wouldnt be surprised if it puts extra stress on that side. i dnt think they designed it in mind with people swapping the battery every day.
had my X2 over 5months and touch wood not a crack or anything on it so far. i dont swap the battery though. my x1 had cracks, keyboard failures, peeling varnish from back cover and all manner of problems by 5months...
i was only inspecting my phone the other day and thinking to myself at how well the X2 has lasted compared to the X1. very pleased with the build quality so far.
i think we will have to recommend to everyone to avoid taking off the back cover more than they have too...

The back side area only cracked for that person because of careless ness. When you putting on the battery cover on any phone and you dont take time to see what your doing thats what gonna happen. The X2 battery cover has to metal strips at the side to be placed on the grove of the phone< when you dont place it in the grove properly it will push out the side of the phone and may brake just like what you see in those pictures you see there. So we cant blame SE for our negligence

That is my phone and I KNOW HOW TO PUT THE DAMN BATTERY COVER ON! I take very good care of every device I have ever owned.
This cracked over time, it has nothing to do with me being careless. Your X2 will crack soon enough, then will you say you were careless?
It's a very thin piece of plastic, take a close look!

how long have you had your X2?
* edit * to keep this thread constructive i think it would be helpful for people replying to this thread to specify how long theyve owned their X2, whether theyve spotted any cracks (and where) and whether they swap the batterys or remove the back cover on a regular basis.
that way it can be established if theres a particular batch of X2s that are flawed and if theres a main cause or if its just random.

Good idea, I got mine around the end of March. Not that long really, the phone looks brand new except for the crack. I use screen protectors as well.
thats not long at all then. so about 8 weeks...
ive had a close look at that side, with the cover on it seems strong enough. but with the cover off its not all that strong. looks like the back cover provides quite a lot of the overal phone strength. the cover has metal hinges too so if anything is going to give it will be the plastic on the casing. dont really see why they had to hinge it. theyve had to put two holes there to accomodate the hinge, if they had kept a normal slide in and click back cover they could of made the casing much more solid. i suppose they thought they where being clever by having a cover with a nice locking mechanism.
ive had mine since february and the guy who had it before me must of had it a few weeks. so mine is nearly 5 months old. but ive probably only taken the back cover off about a dozen times at the most.
i also notice that the crack is quite close to the camera button.. i wonder if using the camera a lot contributes to the crack forming. i dont take many pictures so rarely use the button. just done a few tests and if u press hard on the camera button you can see the case flex slightly..
well, i don't change battery but i need take out the battery less 4 or 5 times a week to restart the phone cuz it has crushed.. also i have drop the phone a few times already..
since MR2 my phone hasn't really crashed only need a soft reset from time to time.. which i think its normal since its WINMO afterall

Yes, I have used the camera quite a bit. That might be it!
Same here, just noticed the crack exactly at the same location ((
Hi every body
I had an X1 too, and same problems that everyone had before, case crack without ANY reason while taking care well, keyboard problems after about 8-9 months and color disappearing of back.
As everyone knows SE said that HTC is responsible for problems of x1.
After all waiting for next work of SE, we have a very close arrival of x2 and x10, so I got an x2 because I BELEIVED that SE presented x2 with all experiences and failures of x1, considering that anyone in the world knew that x10 has a excellent build quality, .... and also some known lacks.
NOW I AM DISAPPOINTED AND MAD AT SE> SHAME ON SE because of having customers like us disappointed.
I had ericsson phones since T26, T28, ......, p800,910,990, x1 and now x2
The least they can do is a simple apology

Well I hope every X2 owner reads this thread and checks their device!
thanks mtechfan for the post.
I checked my phone...so far no cracks. and I dropped it and took the battery out, god knows how many times already
Ah, gonna keep my fingers crossed
This might not be highly relevant, but I have a very similar crack in my X1 (same place). It started as a tiny triangular chip along that plastic ridge/bumper. I remove the battery a decent amount due to flashing. I have also had about 2 bad drops.
Wonder if that plastic stuff some people cover their whole phones with would help avoid this.
Had my z2 for a bit over a month, bought it second hand from a guy who bought it in may.
Today I go golfing and about 30 minutes into my round I reach into my Pocket and pull out a cracked screen.
I thought at first it was just maybe my nilken glassbut after removing it the crack was actually in my screen, as usual I made sure nothing else was in my pocket with my phone, I've since read this is a reoccuring issue with z1,z2 etc.
I ended up buying a new phone as the screen was completely useless.. Hoping Sony will repair the old phone so I can recoup some costs for the new one.
Just figured I'd share

Tell us what they can do for you. That really shouldn't happen. I am so close to buying the z3 after the announcement on the 3rd of september... But when I hear things like this... you know... I don't want a cracked screen without even doing sth wrong.
Another self cracked glass (back).

I will send it to service and report back... unlocked bootloader but EU law protects me.
This exact same thing happened to me. I couldn't even be bothered with Sony customer services, I knew what they'd say, so I just claimed on my phone insurance and took the £75 excess hit.
Mine was cracked the same, put it into my pocket and after 1 min. I pulled out a cracked touch digitizer, the lcd panel was ok.
I think the cracked glass contrary to the working lcd for most people clarifies the issue.
I had this same problem yesterday. I was watching a movie through MHL, turned on my alarm and got to sleep. Next morning screen would not register input, reboot still nothing, then i noticed something in corner of screen, a crack! I am 100% certain that i did not drop the phone or anything, it was just laying on its own pillow next to my head while i was sleeping. Returned it to sony, lets see what their service is like.
I've been fighting tooth and nail with sony for almost 1 month.
After little to no help from the Xperia customer service or the service centre who claims I damaged the phone myself I've filed a complaint to Sony Of America head office in new York city through the better business bureau.
I've got a broken z2 as well as one I bought to replace it. Once the matter is resolved I'll be selling both and going to an IPhone 6+ and will never buy another sony mobile product again.
I hate Apple, but Atleast they back their products.

this is ridiculous... i was hell bent on buying the z3 compact, but after reading so many horror stories about sony products and service i will stay away from them. Thanks for sharing ur story:good::good:
Yeah happened to me too, my crack was thankfully across the back, but my phone company didn't want to know about it - "physical damage is your problem". I have had PDAs and smartphones for over 14 years and this is the first issue ever. Avoid Xperia phones like the plague!!
At least they have kept the Z2 firmware up to date .. oh .. wait ..
The beautiful design of the phone has its minuses. The iphone 6 for example..too big and it bends in your pocket..Im not talking for this case here, but the main reason is the tight pockets and the big phone design like the Z Series.Yes the z's dont bend, but they crack easily. The first thing to do is to buy a metal bumper or plastic crystal clear case (if you want to save the beauty of the phone tho) It will reduce the crack chance significaly. ^^

Perhaps it's a design fault like with the bendy iPhone 6 Plus? Maybe Sony didn't strengthen the phone enough and it can flex too much causing the glass to crack?
My z2 self-cracked as well, on the back. Here more details and pics :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/general/cover-self-cracked-t2846313
After more than 1 month of battle with the seller, their warranty service, and Sony, I was very surprised and pleased to learn that they have agreed to repair it under warranty.
So, it leads me to think that Sony approves then that it is a production defective unit. Now, can this happen to any z2 ? That's the question I couldn't answer......the doubt will always be here, and the fear will stick each time we'll take it off our pockets....(little too much drama, right ?)
Anyway, even if eventually I am satisfied by Sony's action, I am still disappointed to encounter this kind of huge issues on a phone of that price, one month old....

That's good, at least they have agreed. I guess this was (maybe still is) the reason when they launched the device here in India there was some kind of accidental damage coverage for six months, meaning whatever happens they will replaced the device no questions asked, within first six months.
My hatred towards this glass build has just gone up to another level.
Hello,
so as a user of Xperia Z2 I have my rights to complain. This phone is nothing but amazing when it comes to functionality but sucks at build quality. My phone has a gaps around the frame of the display. At top right there is a small gap, on bottom left and on the left of the phone. These places, especially the gap in left side of display, collect dust and other trash. Also the USB flap is popping off all the time dispite having been cleaned and replaced by polish warranty service, propably because the phone's frame has a little arch in there. Also back of the phone had a bit of a move. It has been replaced by afore mentioned service and it does not sqeak anymore when pressed but the top of frame of the phone has been scratched in the process.
So my experience with service has been quite bad. They did replace back and USB flap(so they say but taking into the account it has had dust on silicon seal when I received it I am not so sure) but it left a scar on the phone. So the flap is popping off anyway, making phone not waterproof and annoying.
Now I would like to point out that I use magnetic charger so the port has not been opened too many times actually. Also sending the phone off for repair is not an option now because it will take them another 3 weeks time to repair it.
To be honest I wrote this to scare off some potential Sony buyers because build quality simply is not too good or at least make them check their new phones thoroughly and return if they are flawed.

Sorry for this bro
My xperia z2 i buy in Brazil,is perfectly build,no gaps no flaps coming out,i buy in pré order,i might be Lucky, ask for a total replacement if you have warranty, it might help
Got no buildproblems with my z2 that was bought back in September, but there could be some z2 with build quality issues as indicated by the op
you could post your problem here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2744197 + telling your batch number. If people from the service made any damage to your phone you have to complain about it and ask for a new device since it was not your fault... its kinda late now i guess.
I myself have always used Samsung phone in the past until this year when I got the Z2 after many hours reading and watching reviews. Never once did a read or watch a bad review regarding the build quality of the Z2.
For me, the Z2 totally outshines my previous Samsung phones on the build quality site of things. It totally feels like a premium device to me.
I have similar issues as well. Flaps pop out repeatedly after cleaning and replacement. Had gaps in phone, which caused water damage...

One of the reasons that gaps open itself (if they are clear with no dust in it) is the pressure in the phone that is coused in situations for example like in your pocket and you run/bend.Thats why when you drop it to the ground the flaps are opening to release the pressure. The water test which is provided in the menu of the Z2 have the same way of working as well - pressure determinate that if the phone is sealed and ready for a swim when you bend it abit. :highfive:
my Z2 has gaps in the corners on both front and back side
can it be waterproof with the gaps?

You just describe exactly what is happening with mine. Just the same issues.
Quite sad that Sony can't give you a well built phone for this price...To be honest after having Desire 816 for 3 weeks in the meantime as Sony was being serviced I started regretting that I didn't buy M8. It would be **** specwise compared to Sony but the build quality is just marvelous...Or wait for Z3. I think I could call myself Sony fan some time ago but now I am not so sure. Will have Z2 in mind when buying next phone in 1.5 year time.
Not trying to offend anyone but I believe that a great bunch of us XDA members are extremely anal about our devices.
Every device I've owned has had people complaining about the most minor of issues that no regular users ever hear of.
"MY PHONES CAMERA IS 0.01MM AWAY FROM BEING CENTRED, IS SONY FOR REAL, HOW COULD THEY DO THIS, BLAH BLAH"
I bought my Z2 being incredibly happy with the build quality and i still am.The metal/glass body is exceptional in terms of build quality. Compared to the plasticy build of the G3/other devices, our phone is amazing.
The issue is more of a quality control issue but the thing is that the "issues" we have are so very minor. The gaps form no actual issue, same with off centred camera (that i know of), the flaps popping off is an actual issue but i dont personally know anyone who has had this happen to them, only a few xda users. (Probably due to the constant opening for flashing purposes/other purposes)
Sending it back should fix it, and if it doesnt then send it back again.
Also, all phones have issues. Look on any other phone forum. Our phone is actually better off when compared to others in terms of quality control.
hi guys i want to buy this phone soon and i just wanted to check if the build quality issues i read about are real or not
1) do the flaps really pop up on their own? and if yes what has caused them to do so?is it a manufacturing error?
2) i read about some camera issues with not starting from lockscreen
3) some devices has reported that because of the size of the phone the device has suffered from cracks and niggles caused by the pressure while in pockets?
and please if u can give me your overall experience with the phone and should i buy it or not
p.s : i'm coming fro htc one m7 but the m8 is too expensive and i want to try sony now
thanks in advance to all

1. Not for me, most problems are there with early batches which are harder to comeby now
2. Camera seems to launch fine from lockscreen although a rather large delay
3. The self cracking issue i cant realy tell, my device undergoes my fat behind sitting on it also being extremly hot to cold, i left it in my freezer one time at -30 celcius for a hr and its fine

I agree with some of these issues arent realy issues
Ive had 4 Z2 replacements and i only had them replaced due to serious heating issues, large quantities of dead pixels and one if not both speakers being dead
Im happy with my off centre Camera and my dim led light and my single dead pixel
So Dear other users
If it doesnt affect your handling of the device its best to forget about it.

1. Not for me. Probably extreme use/excessive opening.
2. Nope. Perfect here.
3. Well i personally havent had this happen. I have dropped my phone onto concrete without a case while running from my pockets and its still perfect with literally only 1 small not noticble mark on the corner so i doubt itll crack from pressure in your pocket.
Go for the z2. Its a great phone imho.

4 Z2's?!?!? Holy sheet metal. Wow you are very unlucky. I personally have a 100% perfect no issues at all z2. If your current phone has issues, just keep returning it. I had 3 nexus 5's, all with various actual issues before i got a perfect one... then i water damaged it. Lmao

headphone port, gaps and speaker grill problems can potentially hurt the devices water resistance ability

They dont. If you want to make sure that it is waterproof, go on the test if waterproof without water thread.
So, I bought a Nexus 6 for my wife and at first it was great. But a few weeks later, she was complaining about the camera. I check it out and there is definitely something wrong. It seems that sometimes when the camera focuses, the optical image stabilizer would jump around. It moves so much, that it seems to hit it's limits and you hear it "click". Makes recording videos useless. Worse than having no stabilizer at all.
We're beyond the 14-day return period for Sprint, so I do an advanced exchange RMA with Motorola. Two days later, the replacement phone arrives. It looks like a brand-new sealed box. But when I take the phone out, I see the back cover is separating from the phone. How does the phone like this even get put into a box? Unless the back cover separated after it was placed inside? I didn't even bother to try to turn it on and contacted Motorola via online chat. We'll see what the next steps are, but so far, I'm not impressed with the quality control. Customer service response is pretty good so far.

I am not going to say its anyone's fault but could be multiple things .... Have you seen how package companies treat packages they are shipping .... But yes more than likely that is a problem from factory

Yeah, but not in this case. The box had a few minor dings, but was in otherwise near-perfect condition. The seal was still in perfect shape.

I had the same,
but not with the back cover problem. I had my original Nexus 6 replaced 2 times.
Within 3-4 days of minimal use my nexus 6 was getting a deep scratch on the screen which was very annoying.
This is the 3rd nexus 6 i am using and i did not take out the protector with which it came with until i bought a screen guard.
So i am still worried, if i take out the screen guard it will get a scratch again.
GG3 does not seem to be implemented in nexus 6 i guess.
After three weeks, my camera got progressively worse, taking blurry shots and double exposures,.. Looked like the optical stabilization failed, I got RMA started on 30 Dec, but finally I should receive My replacement today..... Here's hoping I don't have problems.

I've been using mine for more than two weeks now without any screen protector and the screen is perfect! I even carry it in my bag together with my Lumia 1520 and no problems at all! And Yes, the Nexus 6 IS with Gorilla Glass 3! I've seen people trying very hard to scratch this glass and they have all failed!

I replaced my att nexus 6 5 times for various problem. I don't want to get it started here. Anyways, I was expecting a lot better build quaility for this price point comparing to N5. I am really disappointed. GG Motorola.
What camera are you using to take the pictures of the Defects?
The warranty process with Motorola is always good. The advance exchange program is what sets Motorola apart from the rest. I had to replace a Moto G once through this program, and very seamless with 2-day shipping.

On my 5th (One DOA). My current device has the loud, clicky haptic feedback. I've had HTC devices that had clicky haptic, but this is the worst I've experienced. I'm just going to keep it unless it gets worse. After all the screen uniformity issues I've seen, I have no energy left to play the RMA lottery anymore.
Love/hate relationship.

I am getting my T-Mobile warranty phone today next day shipping. OIS failed, bad battery (max 4 hr SOT), yellow screen even when RGB'd and red when low brightness, noisy vibration. Hope this one is better or I'll be jumping to a Z3 possibly. My GF had to warranty her Z3 for a dead LCD so I'm not convinced it'd be better...

Just a few observations. The phone would never be able to fit in the box with any bulge. Secondly, for a bulge to be that size it would be there are a lot of torque, yet the sides are popping off. The backcover is flexible but not so flexible as to do that where only that portion pops up like that. Perhaps a thin plastic like the Note 4, but not the hard plastic on the Nexus 6. As bad as the QC is, the factory or the guy would have to be insane to let that out of the factory. The visible glue suggests excessive pulling force. Seems like a botched attempt at removing the back to me

I don't have an obligation to defend myself, but I can assure you that the phone came out of the box like that. The bulge is only on one edge and it is maybe 1/8"? That's not enough to "burst" out of the box. It's definitely close-able, even if the phone is not lying completely flat. But think about this logically -- what reason do I have to make a post like this if I had somehow botched an attempt at removing the back? And what's the reason for removing the back cover anyhow? Is there something I can get to that I'm not aware of? And if I were trying to remove the back, well, it doesn't look botched at all -- Why not just continue to pull the back off? I would be half-way there. It just doesn't make any sense.

Received my RMA and it was not in new packaging but had a factory screen protector. OIS works on this and the vibration is not fudged.
I read about the lifting problem on Phandroid, but the picture they posted wasn't nearly as bad as this one. Your experience is probably an exception amongst exceptions.
I feel sorry for you,I hope it resolves well.
I have two (white) Nexus 6's coming from Amazon France (apparently it has a full warranty on them so..), now getting a bit worried that the quality might not be up to par. For the price point, I was expecting better. I've seen more than enough articles/posts on the net from people with problems; for the lack of phones currently releasing in the market, I'd say a good amount have defects. Hopefully the two phones I've just ordered have come from a 'second'/newer batch produced with higher QC, and hopefully your replacement for this 2nd Nexus you have is also the same.
Good luck!
This is absolutely ridiculous! I have replaced the Xperia Z5 four times now the 5th unit I have finally has no issues. I ordered it directly from Sony (luckily not from Amazon as they probably would just kept “repairing” the same unit by resetting it to factory settings and each time it would take me weeks to get my phone back…) That's what it took to finally get the phone without any problems...
The first phone did not have any build quality issues and had absolutely no gaps between the screen and the frame. For a flagship phone, not being able to store my “pocket fluff” between the screen and the frame is absolutely unacceptable so I asked for a replacement.
Second unit did not randomly restart even once! I tried everything and it just would not restart at all. I really wanted to see the LED light blinking red at least once but apparently Sony decided that random restarts are not what the customer wants! Again I asked for a replacement.
Third phone's both speakers were equally loud. I was expecting that the bottom speaker will be noticeably quieter. My left ear is not as good as it used to be (courtesy of Vietcong) so was hoping the sound will be nicely balanced. Unfortunately this was a problem for me because you cannot adjust the L/R speaker balance in YouTube app so every time I watched videos the sound was much quieter on the left side of the phone. It was very annoying so again I asked for the phone to be replaced.
At this point you probably wonder why I didn’t give up and go for a different brand. Well, I just really like the Omni balance design and you can easily call me a Sony fanboy as almost all of my electronics are Sony. It did however make me consider switching camps but ultimately I decided to give them another chance.
Fourth phone I really hoped will have all these amazing features people here are talking about. And it did!! Unfortunately the heating element did not work properly and I was able to record the 1080p 60fps and 4K videos for longer than 3 minutes in room temperature (UK room temperature not Bangkok room temperature). I even managed to record 4K video for 15 minutes once! Who on earth would need such long videos! On top of that I was really hoping to use it as a hand warmer in the winter but since the heating element did not work properly I was unable to. In addition, when playing demanding games the phone would not shut itself off after 5+ minutes and because of that I almost got addicted to Candy Crush Saga. I thought that I’m now so close to getting a perfect unit I have to try for the last time…
And it finally happened!!!! The fifth phone I got is perfect and it finally has all these amazing features mentioned in this forum! It has a nice gaps to store my pocket fluff, the speakers are amazingly unbalanced, it does randomly restarts itself to make my life more unpredictable and it warms up nicely when making videos or playing games to the point when it shuts itself off.
And now the cherry on the cake…are you ready for it????!!!
All previous four phones were missing Sony’s amazing built in filter giving this cool effect of blurring the left side of the photos!!! Yes!!! You read it right!!! I finally have the Z5 that does have a proper “left-hand-side-photo-blur” (“LHSPB”) effect built in!!!! Now I can finally uninstall Instagram as this is the only filter I will ever use!!
Anyway, apologies for the long post but I just wanted to share my happiness and thank Sony for amazing customer service and all the fun I had replacing all these phones
P.S. Here’s the link to the photos I took to prove that I have the phone with the LHSPB filter that’s working properly!!
goo.gl/WGbQjS
Seems like you are plagued by bad luck bre.
Happy for you for finding a suitable and perfect device which meet all commercial announcement.
From my side I did not succeed yet to have a phone with all elements working as they should be.
I currently am waiting for a 12th replacement... I am staying with this brand as a lot of people are satified with (and also becuse I am coming from the perfect XZ).
Nevertheless, Sonny has to take care about their manufacturing quality issue as from my point of view it is becoming unacceptable...
I will post later on if the 14th device is the good one...
Finger crossed...
For the story, I have encountered :
- Left hand blur issue (x3)
- Screen Issue (white spot on different areas) (x2)
- Camera Button issue (focussing but not shooting)
- Unglued back glass
- Bad speaker (x2)
- Jack hole not working
- Heating issue while recording
- Soft brick or HW brick after MM Update
@chrisftlse, that's a real dedication to sticking with Sony I'd probably do the same and people like us are probably part of the problem. If people just stopped buying Sony phones after experiencing problems they would have to do something in the end.
I also experienced smaller issues which I didn't mention earlier:
1. Rattling vibration module;
2. Uneven and sticking out sim card flap;
3. Bluetooth skipping after MM update (surprisingly the phone I have now seems to be OK);
4. Shutter button not working properly; and
5. Camera focus problems (in 2 out of 5 units I had);
I hope this time you'll finally get the proper phone that's in usable condition. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for your encouragements,
I will keep you posted as soon as I receive my New Device
@ OP.. lol. Really enjoyed reading your post. Hillarious (excellent sense of humour) as it is but I do feel for you as I've myself been that route! Anyway, good luck and enjoy your phone with "LHSPB filter".. lol!

@chrisftlse, that's a real dedication to sticking with Sony I'd probably do the same and people like us are probably part of the problem. If people just stopped buying Sony phones after experiencing problems they would have to do something in the end.

Could you post a picture taken with the new device, the one that has no blur?

Nobody can be crazy enough to go through 14 replacement units.
I don't believe you

This is the bit that I do not understand: are these photos blur-free, or do they exhibit blur?
I can't understand with your first post if these are indeed supposed to be blur free or not.

Yes I can understand your point of view but I currently am engaged with a provider contract (Orange to name it) and unfortunately they are refusing to either propose me another brand/model either to cancel the contract so I have escalated this to their complaint manager.
BTW, as this XZ5 did not work for me, I do not pay any monthly fee since November last year... small compensation
I am waiting their call and perhaps switch to the XZ5 Premium instead of the normal one as I do not want either to go to another and available brand from their catalog (iPhone, Samsung, Huawei) may be I will decide to switch to the HTC 10 but I really prefer the Sony one
I don't think there is. Previous phones I had were severely affected but unfortunately I don't have any photos. Maybe XDA-Developers community could judge?
Also you can find a long thread here that has many examples of photos blur.

Following the link provided in your first post goo.gl/WGbQjS, look at the trees in the top-right areas. And your device probably has slight right hand side blur, I would say.
ALL Z5 devices will exhibit blur. I've been through all the messages in this forum and in the Sony Mobile forum, and there always is blur in the corners. Most people agree here, right? But I go further: there is always a side which is a tiny little bit blurrier than the other. In all cases. The lens is never 100% well centered.
But where you're right is that, in some cases, the blur is just too pronounced. In this case, you see it clearly, and the only solution is to exchange the device.
I don't believe many devices are really bad, and I also don't believe the Revision number makes a difference. I have a Rev 1 device bought last month, and I only have slight blurring on the right side, that, I take, is a side effect of the wide angle lens, more than a manufacturing defect from Sony.
On this forum and on Sony Mobile, you will find here and there a few pictures with blur-prone lighting conditions in the corners which nevertheless are 100% blur free : these are FAKES. The reason is extremely simple: even on the left corners of my pictures, that is, my clear, non-blurry side, there is a tiny bit of blur, that I can see and measure. Meaning all corners are affected to some extent. Meaning it is not possible to get a blur-free picture (corner blur). It's that simple.

I don't believe it is possible to have 14 faulty devices in a row - this is what I meant. In probabilistic law, the chances are incredibly low. Go play and play the lottery, I would say
Well, the Xperia X will be available very shortly. It would be silly to switch to another brand if you like Sony.
It seems the X won't have a very compact version like the Z5 have. Makes me comfortable with my choice of the Z5C. And BTW the Z5P seems affected just as much as the Z5 and Z5C.
@frankm87, I think you're missing a point here a little bit. Nobody is really complaining about the blur and darkness in the corners as this is a normal effect caused by light in the lens called "vignetting" and every camera in the world suffers from it to some extent. The LHSPB problem with Z5 is a completely different thing and shows as a very distinctive and pronounced blur only on the left hand side of the photo which looks a little bit like smudged picture when you move your camera. you can also spot a very pronounced border where the blur ends in most cases and when you turn the phone upside down, the blur will be on the right side. In addition, every camera will have a bit softer focus on the side of the photo but this is different then the smudgy blur in Z5. In my opinion the camera I got does not suffer from the LHSPB issue and all softer focus is either vignetting or normal softer focus in the far edges.
@chrisftlse, One guy in UK had the same issue and actually threatened Sony with lawsuit and Sony agreed to buy him out from his contract and offered compensation. His problem was similar as he kept getting faulty Z5's and network operator refused to exchanged it to a different model as he signed contract for Z5. At least they offer you different models.

Are you talking about CerberusSco? He did keep the phone, and offered it to his son. Proof Sony's phones aren't THAT bad, huh
As for the left hand blur issue, I don't think it is as binary as you say. And none of the pictures I have seen on the forums with the blur issue have a pronounced border where the blur ends.

Yeah, that's the guy I was talking about Never said they're bad, it's just that Sony's quality check process is lacking and they're not exactly the best in terms of customer service I love my Xperia Z5 and I also had Z2 which was a great phone but with its own unique problems. All in all, Sony does make great phones
Yeah, I agree it's not so black and white with the LHSPB. Maybe I wasn't explaining properly but the border is not like sharp line, more like an area where you can start seeing that the blur gets much smaller.

Sounds to me like the store/vendor is providing him with returned phones hopping one of them will stick. 14 faulty ones in a row just is impossible if you buy in a regular store. That or there is something fishy going on with the storytelling here. You know unicorns and magic wands. But I believe he is being played out by the store. Would be interesting to know the serial and revision number from all of the 14 phones.

Hi XZ5 lovers,
Just to update my situation, my carrier finally came back to me with a proposal:
1- Change again the defective XZ5 with a brand new one (new box)
2- Change to any other model
I have selected the 2 option and now running the HTC 10
I am very sad cause I liked this phone so much (despite all encountered issues) but I have decided to turn the Sony's page for now on...
But I did not tell my last word I am purchasing a brand new XZ5 for my wife

So.. You bought a used one and/or had your Z5 exchanged for used ones by the store instead of brand new ones? That explains why you got so many faulty ones one after another. You where getting returned faulty phones as exchange units. So in short this has nothing to do with Sony and all to do with the store playing faul game with you.
