The knock on feature (double tap the screen to wake the phone up) stopped working... Is there an app that would give me this feature back or anything?
I really want the g3 when it comes out but I don't know about that since the problems with the screen on the g2.. Because I also have a dead spot in my screen towards the top
Variant is sprint LS980

A few days ago my knock on broke. I've changed Rome, kernels, and restored a stock backup to see if any of that was the problem and it still won't work. Then I noticed that a line of my my screen is not registering touches. If I swipe across the area it registers, just not to touch. I have a feeling that with a portion of the screen dead it is affecting the knock on feature. Can anyone attest to this or does anyone know what my next course of action might be to get knock on back. I have included a picture of lcd screen test to show which portion of the screen is not registering touch. Thanks in advance!

In having the same issue on my Sprint G2. Only just bought this device 3 days ago and knockon with the screen off stopped working. It works with the screen on in every launcher, but turn the screen off and nothing.
I'm thinking factory reset but I came here first because it still works with the screen on.
Oh yeah, what app ate you using to see the dead zones?

Defective sensor is causing the problem. Only option is to get a replacement.

Sometimes my G2 does not recognize knock on, when I tap on the screen too fast… but this is not related to any particular area of the screen.

The app is called lcd test or lcd screen test. Just an update. The dead zone is gone now and knock on works again. It is more than likely a hardware issue with digitizer and will probably come back, but for now I am getting my knock on.

Found the screen test earlier by rereading your post. Gonna turn Knockon back on to see if it comes back.
Thanks.

This is exactly what i'm experiencing!!! Same dead zone for tapping and no knock on! I submitted a service support ticket to LG earlier.

Just wait a few days mine came back

Mine is doing this and seems to be same zone. How I figured this out was by quick memo and drawing lines to figure out which spot does not registered. Now I'm just waiting on my replacement. This is just strange that 4 people are having the same problem on the same section of screen. And who knows how many more

Did anyone fix this issue?
I guess I'll be sending my phone to lg..
Posting from my LG G2 while driving an Evo IX.
As a temporary work around for the dead zone, I recommend installing the one handed xposed app (http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-one-handed-mode-devices-t2735815) and toggling it to shift the screen down by 100 pixels. This allows you to move necessary buttons (such as the install button in google play) out of the dead zone temporarily.
I've sent my phone back to lg to have this corrected. Seems a little silly that I have to work around a dead spot on a new phone with less than two months of usage.

Exactly same issue here on my vs980 with dead spot in exactly same place. Weird...

Okay folks. Knock-off works, but Knock-on doesn't.
Turn off the setting in the gestures menu. Reboot your phone. Turn on setting. Power button lock your phone.
Now tap screen firmly for one second then tap firmly again. (No quick tapping like you're trying to turn the screen off)
Say this out loud. (1.- 2.)
One dot, two dot.
The first touch has to be firm and for a solid 1 second.

Well it still doesn't work. Regrettably...
I have this same problem on mine now....
I wish we could figure out what is causing these issues....Has anyone flashed TOT back to stock ZVC to see if it takes care of the issue?
EDIT:
Fix For Me:
Since Sprint doesn't have the update touchscreen driver,
Goto: Device Test-->Individual Item-->Touch Draw Test - Auto
Draw the outline as close as you can (notice the touch screen works everywhere!) then press your power button.
It will ask you PASS FAIL - SELECT PASS! (trying again if only Fail - but it worked on fail too for me)
NEXT:
5689#*980# (From Dialer)
Goto: Device Test-->Individual Item-->Touch Draw Test - Manual
Draw the outline as close as you can (notice the touch screen works everywhere!) then press your power button.
It will ask you PASS RETRY FAIL - SELECT PASS!
Exit, your touchscreen should be responding now that was previously dead.
This worked on my Sprint G2!! First time the dead zone (btw, it's always the same region at upper half of the screen, compared to other people's screenshots) happened, I thought it was the running out storage space, because after I transferred some of the photos out, it worked again. This morning, same thing happened and I moved all my photos out, leaving 3Gb free space, but did not recover. Tried the update touch firmware method, not working, but this one worked (my Touch draw test auto actually failed), but still after the manual draw test and reboot, it worked.

Sadly, it kept happening to me and eventually the method I used stopped working. I sent the phone since it was under warranty to LG. They replaced screen and digitizer. Took care of issue permanently. Sorry for bad news, but it will prob get worse till you have to replace too. ?

You can go to the hidden menu by dialing 3845*#802# then go to setting and press update touch firmware. and all things will be all right.

The phone's gone bad. I sent to lg and they replaced the touch screen and fine now.
Ok I already read the threads on the screen problems. I'm not having the common EKG sporadic or ghosting problem. My problem is a dead spot about a half inch down on the screen and its about a half inch long itself. My G2 is a VS908. I tried to use the dialer 3845#*908# to get to the hidden menu, this didn't do ANYTHING at all. However when I did ##PROGRAM980 and entered 000000 it sent to me "Verizon's Hidden Menu" but had no options for a Touch Screen Firmware Update - however through this screen I can see the rooted flag. My phone is rooted but I doubt its a cause of my problem. I know I voided the warranty for Verizon by rooting the phone, but others have said LG will still repair it. However I cannot go 2-3 weeks without a phone. Is there anyway to update the touch screen firmware on an LG G2? I figured I would try and give that a shot.
Not possible if you have dead spot then doing update touch firmware will not fix problem, your only chance is to go back to stock and get warranty replacement

phone was working fine but from last two week the screen starts moving automatically, Wi-Fi turns on automatically at any time. the install button of Google play doesn't work (seems like touch issue) but when i touch the same spot with camera application, it works fine. i am on stock ROM (4.4.2, kernel 3.4.0, KOT49l ) and tried resetting the phone multiple times but facing the same issue.
please help me resolving this issue.
regards.

These are not software problems (dead touchscreens spots), your knock on will not working. It's hardware issue, I think you need sending it back to LG

You are just scaring ppl .. You said that my phone has probblem too .. So just dont scare ppl .. and try to help them..
i had this kind of issue with my other phone, I just downgraded to Jelly Bean and it worked fine ... and did the touch drivers update from the hidden menu 3845*#802# ...
i think you have a dead section along the top of your screen, about half an inch down. Its been fairly common. Its not real noticeable at first , bc that area of the screen isnt used often, but its EXACTLY where the play store install button is, and your knock on will no longer work. you need a new screen. or flip it to landscape whenever (seldomly) you need that area of screen. you can test it by getting LCD tester from the playstore , or by using quickmemo to draw on your screen.

This happened to me exactly, about a month back. It seems to be right across where the 2nd from the top messages are. You can download YAMTT https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rn.yamtt&hl=en
I use the PAINT option and move my fingers around the top. It was a solid strip out near the top. Knock On will no longer work, but Knockoff will.

that could be because the camera button has more "active area" meaning, it will still work if you tap near but not exactly in the same location. the install button on the play store is very very precise. if your knock on does work, then its probably just software. but if your knock on does not work, i recommend testing the hardware with quick memo.... draw lines all the way up and down your screen slowly, and see if there is a break in that area. if its not the screen, unroot, and go all the way back to stock
i don't know how but it has started working automatically form last 10 minutes and google play button is now accessible.
i hope it wont give that error again.
thanks for all good suggestions.

Hi friends,
I'm having a weird and hard problem here. My LG G2 senses that I'm touching it randomly in the zone where the 0 appears in the dial even if I don't touch the screen!
Do you have any clues?

No I don't. I restored the phone and works perfect again. One of my clues might be related with xposed framework, greenify and root...
You are very lucky, that happened to mi twice, touchscreen was acting crazy, and no factory reset could fix it...
They are appearing again!. Its really weird, is totally random. I have activated the show pushes in dev mode and it shows the white circle in the same spot as if a ghost was pushing it :S
