Have you been using the music app?
Can you check the available memory to verify if you don't have a memory leak?
Stock music app seems to leak memory and cause these issues.

3-4 seconds???? This is unusual...Wow. Something is definitely wrong with your device.

Mine takes 1 second, if my phone has been "idle" for few minutes. If screen has been off for a minute, it wakes up as soon as I press home button.

Samsung forgot the Exynos devs first... the lack of interest and development is because of Samsung's actions in the past.

I just "upgraded" from an S3 to an S5 (both on Verizon). If I let the screen go off on its own, wake up takes multiple seconds. This lag is ridiculous. I'm pretty underwhelmed after this "upgrade"...may return and wait to see what else comes out in the next few months.

My friend go to settings and svoice and unckeck the option (open by double click home button) I also had some delay but it reduced a bit because the phone waits for the second click to activate the svoice.
If you are still getting more then 2 sec some thing is wrong with your device. Try to restore it to factory by Samsung comp app.

I just thought it was funny how such a first world problem this is... LOL
But hey, if I paid this much money, it should do what it's supposed to. Hope y'alls lag go away.
Like they say," bad internet (or in this case phone) does not make a person rage, lag does."

This is even worse than I thought (I've only had the phone for a week). There are times when waking up takes 10+ seconds and requires hitting the home button 3 or 4 times. Phone is stock Verizon (no root or custom ROM), SD card, Galaxy launcher (instead of TouchWiz).

I think i read around saying that was only an issue on the exynos devices where the SD card messes with the phone's performance?
Personally with my snapdragon 900I with a 32gb sandisk class 10, i havent been experiencing any performance slow downs.

No issues here with a Class 10 16GB sd card - this is a remnant when I had a S3.
Then moved on to Nexus.
Edit: Exynos, G900H

I just got my s5 yesterday and everything was going smoothly, and quick. Today I noticed the lag on wake. I noticed since I set up the smart remote that it placed controls on the lock screen. Through the smart remote settings I removed the lock screen controls and the phone is waking up again with no lag.

Wake Delay when using Android

Has anyone found an actual solution to completely get rid of the wake delay issue? What I mean by wake delay is when you try to wake your phone from sleep and the key pad lights come on but the screen stays black for a few seconds sometimes longer.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
What type and class card are you using? Seems to be related to card. I have 3 cards. 16gb class 2 Sandisk = no wake delay on any build. 8gb Lexar class 6 and other 4gb class 6 = 3-5 second wake delay on all builds except darkstone's Super_Ram build.
I'm using the stock 16gb class 2 SD card that came with phone. I've alreAdy formatted the card and I'm using ozdroid Windows Rom but I still get the wake delays...So with your 16gb class 2 card you get
Zero delays ? Maybe I should buy a different card.

Try reformatting with 32kb clusters.
This is a known software issue and is present in every single Android build on here. The devs all know about it and it's something that needs to be fixed.
Actually, I take that back. I'm using Ginger HD2 at the minute and it's a LOT better.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Well its random. It will work fine for a while then I start having long delays. It's good to know that its a known issue and the devs are working on it because its the only real issue that's keeping android from being stable. It sucks when you want to show someone something on your phone and it won't even wake up.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Seriously, if you can be bothered to set up a new build, try Ginger HD2. I can go into standby with the power button and then wake it again seconds later, and it works 99% of the time.

Probably is because GB is so much more resource efficient, so the sleep/wake process is faster. I cant wait til theres more complete/stable GB builds released after awhile. But for now, UltimateDroid does the trick for me as a daily driver.
One thing to prevent black screen on wake is to hold the power button instead of just pressing it. For some reason, this cuts way down on the black wakeups. Between that and using the newest kernel by MDJ, I almost never have black wakeups anymore.
Oh, and it seems to me that the lower class sd cards actually help run Android better. Don't ask me why, but class 2's seem to yield better battery life and even perform better, or at least as good as a 4 or 6

Ginger HD2 isn't a Gingerbread build. It's a 2.2.1 build with a Gingerbread look and feel to it (and the lovely new keyboard too!)
Did you try what I suggested? Also, do a chkdsk for errors on your card. I'm using stock 16gb Sandisk card and have no wake delay with any build and latest hastarin kernel. My phone wakes immediately even multiple back to back locking/unlocking.

I will try this in the next few days. I'm wondering if the wake delays are directly related to the inconsistent ear censors that control the wake and sleep of the phone when in a phone call. Sometimes I will take my ears off the phone to look at the screen and the screen won't light up for a good while. Happens when I end calls too sometimes, screen won't light up. I feel these 2 issues are closely related.

I'm using hastarins 8.6 and the delay is still there. It is a tad better but not gone. I've tried various builds and they all have this very minor delay. It is not that long but can be at times. Sometimes I think people have different interpretations of instant. The best comparison is to try a Desire or Desire HD. Press the power button on those phones and it comes on INSTANT.

I'm using v8.5.3. I've noticed it mostly delays when I quickly sleep wake , sleep wake or like I mentioned before while on a phone call, trying to look at the screen. I feel that the solution to this issue can be found by adjusting the sensors, but Im no expert. Does any one use set CPU? I heard that can help.

Homebuttonlag: Watch this!

So, even the the magical iPads homebutton is slower then the Galaxy S 2s one. Also when waking the device up! You will have to live with that. Also this is not a problem at ALL for me, I can not understand why people are always flaming about it.
Please tell me what you think. I know the video is useless, don't tell me that.
This video will fall on deaf ears for the Apple Fanboys I think... because your attachment is Flash and they probably can't view it.
This video clearly shows that Galaxy S2 isn't the only device that takes a second to wake up or return to home, which is nice and all. Still, coming from a HTC Desire, it does present an annoyance, as it's not something you expect from a device that costs that kind of money. I bet the Sensation wakes up instantly...
The thing that's even worse for me is the extra step that just shows a black screen with a clock, before the wallpaper kicks in. I know that's just because I'm using a stock ROM, but they should at least sort that out, because it really looks ugly, slow and cheap.

I know home button lags and that there is a wake-up lag on my SII, but i haven't been in a situation of life and death up till now to rely on home button to save my life. So i'm still cool with it, even though i would have liked the phone to perform faster.
apple falling down with releasing SGS2 ))
fanboys are unhappy
Well the SGS 1 home button press is nearly instant when exiting from an application. So I expected the same from SGS 2. I'll flash it with cyanogen when I get my JIG to reset the counter. I hear it doesn't have the lag.
1-2 second lag also cannot accept is crazy...
Maybe this is why apple is suing Samsung. They even copied wake up lag. Lol. Seriously its not lag its the phone waking up from a lower clock speed while in sleep. Sure they could fix it but battery drain will be worse I think. My quad core i7 also has lag when waking up.
Thanks for sharing the video. I wonder if someone could show an HTC wake up I bet there is a small lag too

Im using Cyanogenmod, and theres still "lag" if the device is in deep sleep.
But if you just lock the screen, and then unlocks, its instant.
As the first post, I think this is normal.

LOL nice video, I never really understand when people said they have "wake-up lag" coming from an iPhone 4 it's pretty much the same. Maybe 2 seconds is too much but anything under 1 second is definitely how it should be.

Can anyone exactly explain why this is frustrating or annoying ?

Let's say you have 500ms delay after pressing the home button. In real life, the delay is much much longer but let's say 500ms. How many times do you press the home button in a day's use? I personally press it at least 300 times a day, actually much more times in a busy day, but let's say 300.
So 300 x 0.5 seconds: 150 seconds = 2.5 minutes of my life every single day is lost because Samsung can't code properly.
I've been using this phone for 2 months: 60 days. 2.5 minutes x 60 = 150 minutes of my life gone waiting so far. That's more than 2.5 hours in two months... Vanished.. Gone.. Just waiting for the home screen to appear, nothing else...

Nothing wrong with deep sleep but it doesn't have to take 1.5 seconds. Deep sleep still means that RAM is refreshed, so it is not impossible to do this much faster. Waking CPU <10ms, restoring CPU state (reloading code etc) <100ms, so where is the time spent? The delays are probably related to other hardware like GPU etc since everything must be ready. But it is not impossible to do this faster.
This is not a big problem for me, but I cannot see any reason not to demand improvement.
EDIT: I'm talking about wake-up lag of course, probably a bit off-topic here...
There is no Homebutton-lag! It has to have a delay because on the standard Samsung rom it has to "wait" for a second press because they mapped an action to double pressing the homebutton. I don't know why you people can't understand this... On CM7 there isn't this lag because there is nothing mapped on double pressing the homebutton.
Oh and wakeup lag is a whole other story...

Why do you care about RAM usage? Android is going to use most of the RAM anyway, it's how it works. And it's only for better performance.

Okay, how about a desire for less lag? One can hope, right? I know the 4.4.2 update on my Moto X reduced an already smooth system even more, otherwise the "improvements" were not really noticeable. However, with the purported touchwiz UI update many potential improvements are possible, especially with the reported speed of the 12" version out now.

Wake up lag is a exynos problem as far as I know. My sgs3 has the same lag as the note 10.1 2014. The note 10.1 variants with the other chip (qualcomm?)*shouldn't have the wake up lag.
Just something I've read though, but both my exynos devices have a slight wake up delay.

Startup atrocity.

I'd like to vent that after owning this phone for however many months I have, the startup time is aging me. Is it just my phone in particular or do all Nexus 6's take years to turn on? Not having a reboot option on stock is a tad bit annoying too. Just saying.
It's pretty slow for me as well even with a reboot option. I heard it is due to the encryption. If I am wrong please correct me.

if you unencrypt, it boots much faster. also, on m, my encrypted n6 takes about 55 seconds to boot. a reboot option.. if you have root, you have many options. first one is entering reboot, or reboot recovery, or reboot bootloader into a terminal emulator. plus there are many widgets and apps that you can use.

Is this thread for real? Seriously?
As with above. How often are you rebooting your phone that it's become an 'atrocity'?

It's a long boot time is it not? I might boot once every few days to once a week. Whats the difference? I find it annoying and was *****ing about it. "Atrocity" was me being humorous, relax a little.

The number of apps and/or app sizes would be the greatest difference in boot times, I'd say.

Forum mod edited my post.
Boots up faster than almost any phone I've owned. Exception being my moto x 2013 dev. It booted insanely fast. I'm not encrypted tho so that may be why it only takes maybe 30sec to lock screed. Try going to an early jb device or if you want to be in pure hell a gb device and wait a minute or 2 to reboot.

Anyone else getting/noticing lag?

Hi, when unlocking my s6 edge plus by clicking the home button and leaving my finger on it (fingerprint sensor) there is a lag and the screen stays black. I then repeatedly clicked the home button to turn the screen on. Does this happen for anyone else? Thanks

I was just thinking about where hv I read about the lag before. I found the thread, however, both of them were reported by you... No lags so far on mine!
First Samsung device I have ever used that had no lag!!! Nothing but blazing speed over here...

Yes some time, i observed that when its on low battery only(30-40%).,also on theme. have to check on stock theme
They gave 4 GB Ram in which they used 1.8 GB when it got shipped. I added 1 GB of applications that left with 1 GB of free RAM.When we start using the phone apps are taking 500 MB to execute which leaves with just 500 MB of free space. As apps get updates in the next 1 year this 500 MB free space will further decrease and hence I believe we will see this lag after 1 year but as of now i see nothing. What puzzles me is that some how 4 GB doesn't seem sufficient

Think about other flagships which are coming with 3 GB RAM... And this one is LPDDR4, which is way faster than its predecessor. In a year, it won't make much of a difference. And if it does, you can always install a stock android ROM which will not even consume half of the available RAM even with several other applications running! You've got the best hardware, be sure of that..

Agreed that it has best hardware and probably that is why there is no lag.Other flagships may come with 3 GB but probably they don't get shipped with 50% of RAM. May be Samsung used 50% probably because of Samsung Pay and Knox.
What I heard is that it gets slower as time goes and hence hope this time it doesn't happen.
I hate to install Custom Rom and I am that Geek and while i tried to install Cyanogen Mod in S3 it gave errors and had to use a temp fix to resolve the issue and took lot of time to find that temp sol.

Although I prefer Samsung ROM over the CM ( Yeah, I like the colors ), but CM did give me amazing performance in my earlier flagships. I'm not suggesting you to do it, however, if you do, just find the guide for exact model number as yours and read the comments before flashing. I started flashing with Sony W700i, then Moto Razr v3i, Moto ming, PSP 2000, N73, some BlackBerry, Samsung I5800, S2, S3, Note 2... Frankly, I had my bad time too, but that's how you learn...
Has anyone found a way to cut the ram usage down yet 1.8 GB used by their nonsense is really pissing me off and we can't root cause well lose Samsung pay

I bought international factory unlocked version and I saw that Package disable pro is actually finds Samsung push service as bloatware and hence u have to be very carefull what you disable.Had i done that I think i wont get any updates from samsung.
I didnt see much increase in battery life or Increase in Free Ram.I will try thsi app after some time.
After clearing cache in recovery menu I found that the lag is a little less. We'll see though
