Guys, at work two days ago my headphone cable got caught in someting, I didn't notice and moved fast, pulled kinda hard. The headphone's cable is pretty dead, but I honestly don't give a damn, they're more than replaceable, but the headphone jack in the phone seems a little bit loose now, and if I wiggle the (new) cable, sometimes it sounds really bad. My question is.. where could I get a replacement? Due to obvious Knox issues, I can't really go to the repair service for free, so I'd like to either find out if I have even the slightest chance in services to fix it (the ones I asked around said no...) or where to buy one, I could replace it myself, since I'm quite handy hardware (worked for a while as a pc tech repair, the screwdriver is basically an extension of my hand, and I've replaced many phone screens, I could manage). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
SM-N9005 is my toy, in case there are different jack models for different variants

It is possible to buy them, just had a quick google search and found one on ebay, probably around that sort of price - http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/331061041887
Let me know if you find a reliable place, i may get a spare as mine has loads of grit inside it that doesnt want to come out

Did a headphone jack replacement on the note 2 and didn't have any issues (still more difficult than on other phones). I wouldn't recommend replacement to anyone but if u have the experience... It is possible. Like said b 4 look on eBay 4 note 3 headphone jack and buy from seller, always worked for me. Good luck mate

Hi everyone.
The Ringer (Rear Speaker) of my Charmer has died. Does anybody know where I can find one in UK?
Or does anybody here sell this kind of stuff?
Thanks.
well you may try any speaker that can play loudly enough. in my old sony cmd-j6 i was using speaker from tetris game and it was playing louder than original with less noise
btw, what did you do that speaker is dead? i would recommend you to use multimeter to check if it is realy burned down, speaker has nothing inside that you could be damaged (of course, you can have burned down coil or damaged membrane)
P.S.: speakers do not like needels
Yeah, i've already checked with a multimeter. The speaker's coil is burnt out. I had a really loud ringtone (preamplified). I was using tomtom and while the tomtom was speaking, the phone rang and I suspect this caused a spike or something like that and the coil got burnt.
Needless to say, I won't be using that ringtone anymore.
And the problem with using any other speaker is that I don't know which one would fit the housing in the case as it is a pretty tight fit.
Any advice?
Thanks.

imho the best idea is to buy hardly damaged charmer (maybe prophet and other similar devices will use the same or at least simliar speaker). devices with broken display are cheap, coz they are useless for their owners.
otherwise, you can modify the plastic part that is carrying antenna tin. imho there is enough space to make speaker hole bigger and insert different speaker - the best way will be to consult right parametres with skilled electrotechnician...
Thanks for the info. I looked up on ebay and at the moment, couldn't find any old or broken charmer. Will go and ask at T-mobile shop first, if they have it and if they charge something like 40 quid, won't get it.
Then will start going for other options like modifying the case to fit any other speaker.
Anyway, contract about to finish in 3 months or so, so maybe will just leave it like that and get a new phone when contract finishes.....
My speaker broke the other day too!... wish i could get a replacement...
i have found this one:-

Thanks for looking jameslovell. But this one does not fit the charmer, and besides, i gave up looking two days ago and bought a random speaker and melted/reshaped inside chasis to fit that one
Now working fine
Thanks everyone for your help!
This seems like a fair price to me. Is it? What hardware issues should I be looking for, common wear/tear's etc?
Thanks guys! This will be a nice (slightly heavier) upgrade from my Blackjack2 and 2125.

There's quite a list of things to look out for. Be aware that there are quite a few being dumped on the net because of pretty serious issues. Having said that, there are good ones around.
You should not buy one that:
1
has ever had a white screen or fading screen problem
2
Shows a "No GSM" error
3
has a screen alignment issue (even a minor one)
4
has a slide out keyboard so loose that holding it up to your ear makes it slide out a little (this fault is fixable - but not entirely straightforward)
5
switches completely off from time to time (may be a minor battery contacts fault, but can be cracked solder joints on the battery connector.)
6
has ever suffered from applications closing for no reason or the start menu opening for no reason. (can be a sign of alignment issues or contamination under the screen bezel)
7
ever had charging problems or other issues with the USB socket. This can be replaced but the cost is probably not worth it unless it's DIY
8
a loose stylus is a hassle. Some are so loose they just fall out. I have instructions to fix this but easier to avoid the issue.
Im sure other folk can think of a few other things.
It may be worth buying one that is cheap if the rear speaker or front speaker is not working. The rear speaker is of just a loose connector and is just under the rear casing. The front earpiece speaker can be faulty due to loose spring connector (fixable, but a major dismantle - it can be replaced if necessary with a relatively cheap motorola alternative)
Mike
PS I am not up on current prices. Just the other day someone got one at $120 which was not thought to be a bargain. However with the Hermes, I'd rather pay a few more dollars for one that works ok rather than one that has one of those white screen or alignment problems.
That is a great answer. Thanks very much Mike. I'll post here how it turns out.
thats where i found mine, turned out great. this may not seem like the obvious , but one of the main reasons i like craigslist purchases is that they are usually meet face to face affairs. people that are going to scam you by selling you junk are less likely to do so face to face, at least thats been my experience. I think thats price is fair if its in halfway decent shape.
go for it, not a bad price if specs check out like Mike said...
Picked it up, checked for all issues and asked some questions. Seller was mostly tech-illiterate but I dropped her down to $80.
Thanks so much for the advice all. I'll off to upgrade this puppy!
Excellent! Happy Flashing
I am thinking about do-it-yourself (DIY) speaker replacements for the TF101.
I pulled mine out and found the plug connector is part similar to JST 04SUR-32S. It is 0.8mm pitch so the wires have to be thin.
I have found a couple different speakers that fit. The square dimensions must be under 25mm x 11mm (12 might work), and thickness is unsure but must be under 7mm. I also will evaluate round at 11mm diameter.
Examples:
http://www.veco.com.tw/
square speakers
The part number on speakers in the tablet is "tek 1505". I think the 05 stands for 5 ohms, just a guess.
Thoughts or suggestions?
Let us know how it goes.. I have one speaker not working, I might want to try that too.
Thanks
Awesome. I am really looking forward to this. If you find some speakers that perform really good, let us know the specifications. I really would like some better speakers.
really looking forward to this, really would like some bass enhanced speakers...
Old news: Got my speakers pulled, need to test originals on an oscillator.
New news:
Got replacement speakers, but they are a little to big. Will see if they fit next time I open my tablet.
Got replacement plugs for wiring harness, 04SUR-32S. I think it is a match, and will test fit next time I open my tablet.
This morning I made a replacement wiring harness with some top quality AWG 30 wire and a replacement plug (04SUR-32S). The quality of my wire seems better than original, so I might replace the original wiring harness if the original speakers test okay.
I got my plugs from these guys: http://ecommerce.tlcelectronics.com/jst/04SUR-32S
So, I have a few extras (min order 100) - selling some. Recommend a few (5?) because it takes practice to crimp in the wires. Also, I might make a few replacement wiring harnesses - and sell some wiring harnesses instead.
At this point, I am not 100% sure they will fit in the circuit board but they *look* like a match to the original. PM me for info.
Any news on this?
I'm very interested in this too.
I found a supplier of speakers that are the same size as ASUS. So, I asked for a quote & samples over a week ago and I have not heard back. Waiting.
I also have a few varieties both larger & smaller than the standard speakers. In about one week I will be doing more hardware hacking.
Other people's thoughts and work interest me too. Ideas?

I replaced the speakers on my A101 a few months ago. I usually use Digikey for components, but Mouser had a surprising amount of speakers. Have you looked for stock there yet? In my testing, all speakers around this size have a sharp linear falloff under 100Hz, so I focused on getting the highest SPL efficiency, I think I ended up around 96dB/V.
P.S. Why are you bothering with new plugs for the speakers? I usually just desolder the old ones and use their harnesses. Not an attack, just wondering.
How difficult is it to disassemble and reassemble this tablet? I asked the guys over at ifixit if they were going to do a teardown of Transformer but they said they have no plans at this point. Does the battery look DIY if it is ever needed?
just wondering how this is going? i need to replace a speaker due to blowing out 1 of them and not being able to send off under warranty.
frankly dont know enough about this sort of thing to complete on my own but can test and contribute to get this done.
I did find a site with possible replacement speakers, but lost the link so trying to find it again.
anyway ill post when I find it, hope this is still being worked on!
Wondering why you don't look at an enclosure/driver that works....IE the iPad...not the 2.
What did they do that ASus obviously didn't??
The transformer is a consumption device, and by god, as such it had better deliver sight , sound and recording of same with steller results...zsent mine back and returned to my Ipad2 for that very reason.
... hoping the crappy audio I/o will be solved with the next iteration...
I really wanted the Xformer to be a winner

Update: I never got reply from speaker supplier. Could use more suggestions on suppliers. So, I will have to go with what I have found already - 2 sizes slightly off.
Great suggestion hesynergy. I will check out the iPad 2 speakers.
I am still planning to do mod in near future. If someone else wants to attempt you can PM me and I will make you a speaker wiring harness. You can remove the originals and try a second set without damaging originals.
Other distractions at the moment. I got two 4000mAh 7.4v batteries (8000mAh total) that might (should) fit in the dock. I need to disassemble the dock or tablet to measure the power connector so I might do speakers at the same time.
I will post everything when going on ....
found that link..
http://www.speaker-tw.com/manufacturer/speaker/rectanguler%20speaker.htm
admittedly, i haven't measured the speakers yet so dont know if these are anywhere near the size needed.
and also just realised this isnt a uk supplier, but none the less may come in handy.
just emailed asus asking for help. hopefully get a good response
I've been following this thread. I love hardware hacks. Too bad there isn't more of it spread among popular devices. I have to admit, I was hoping to hear a success story like, "I've done it! I integrated the port design from my Bose Wave radio and my Transformer has some b-b-b-bass!"
Till then, i'll keep lurking the progress here.
Hi Guys
I want to replace my speakers as well. The left speaker does not work
I sent my transformer for RMA and they sent it back and again the speaker does not work. On the paper I received they mentioned that they changed a sponge.
I can not be bother to send my transformer back to asus.
Have you found a speaker replacement and the hardness?
well asus responded with very little help. they gave me a list of possible sites to find the part, but none of them had it
My left speaker also doesn't work, but when i squeeze left side it works. So I wonder how difficult is to open device and did anybody succeed in repairing original speaker. I guess resoldering some connection is all it takes.
I am also hoping somebody will find better speakers, but just having both spakers working would be a great improvement for me.
Hi Divvet
Can you share these web sites that you got from Asus?
I think these speakers are really bad quality. I hope Asus to understand that
and to start replacing them with a better quality.
If someone find a good quality speaker and to actually fit I would be interested in
Lets see the results

Mine did the same but eventually it stopped, i took my tab apart and it didnt seem to be the connection itself, i think it was the actual speaker, unfortunately i dont know enough about repairing speakers.

has anyone else experienced this? i can't be entirely sure it's the micro-usb port, but it's definitely in that vicinity. i was putting my case back on after installing a new screen protector and i slipped and nearly dropped the phone. the quick bit of movement is what allowed me to hear the rattle in the first place. to be clear, i did NOT drop the phone. i've only had it a week, and i've been babying the bajeezus out of it.
the port seems to be functioning just fine as my phone is charging and i'm able to see the device on my pc when connected (both as a media device and via adb).
it's a little unsettling to hear this rattling though. makes me wonder if something is broken internally. the port itself looks fine. i don't see anything bent. i have to admit the stock ac adapter cord seems to fit pretty terribly, but it did from the get go. my thunderbolt has a much snugger fitting cord.
should i be concerned? i'm not one to rma my electronics on a whim. i really like to resort to that as a very last option. if this is something that shouldn't be happening though, i'll bite the bullet and go for a replacement.
EDIT: i keep trying to diagnose the precise source of the rattle and now i'm not so sure it's the micro-usb port. i'm thinking it might actually be my microsim moving around within the tray. is it possible for the card to have just the tiniest bit of wiggle room even though the tray is fully (and properly, of course) inserted?
this is going to drive me nuts. a phone shouldn't rattle. there are no moving parts. :/
aannnddd... like an idiot, i didn't do enough xda searching and/or googling. i'll save someone else the trouble and call myself out:
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=nexus+4+rattle
i'm not going to worry about it. rma'ing would likely land me with another rattling phone, and after reading several threads here on xda and other discussions scattered across the web, it seems to be a pretty common (and harmless) issue.

I noticed a lot of these seemed to be from phones purchased prior to march. I just got my Nexus 4 this past week, and I noticed there are a few design differences between mine and my brother who got his back in January, such as more of a groove on the sides, there's lil nubs on the back at the bottom (I guess to prevent sliding), and the SIM bay seems to be tigher than my brother's N4.
So design wise seems they have done some minor revisions without changing the overall dimensions of the phone.

i bought my phone on june 1st via the play store. it's a 303k. maybe the 304 and 305's don't rattle?
About three weeks after I got my G2 back in November, I noticed a few dead pixel spots on my screen. Small spots, so I decided to live with them and not get a replacement.
But recently, I've been getting less than solid headphone connects, i.e. it'll plug in but the recognition will disconnect a few times is the headphone cables are moved or twisted: a weakening headphone jack.
I'm inclined to take up LG's manufacturer warranty, and I'm wondering if you guys think it will be covered as a manufacturer defect. I can say that the screen issues came that way, but the headphone jack issue probably isn't convincing enough to be a manufacturer defect.
Any thoughts? I need to unroot before I go to the Verizon store anyway...

Yes you should unroot it. Depending on the store you go to, they might not even be able to power it on (dumb as hell) but its better to be safe then sorry

Im having the same headphone jack problem too. It seems to be pretty common issue. Im gonna try Verizon tommorrow. Ill let ya know how it goes.
