HD calls - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why do some incoming calls sound different? The calls are at random and the screen has an HD icon. Any way to block this? Thanks
Sent from my SM-G900T using xda app-developers app

why would you want to? I don't know of any carries except Tmobile right now that has HD calling.
Remember that first time you saw HD tv? or the first speed test with DSL. Honestly the first time I talked on HD it was that mind blowing to me. Now its as if I'm used to it. But people who don't have HD calling sound weird. lol

True.... I guess it's gonna take some getting used to. So does this only work tmobile to tmobile? And why does it now work all the time?

Outgoing call problem

One in five outgoing calls that I make does not connect. All I get is the sound from the mic looped into the speaker. At forst I thought it was my buetooth but alas that is not the problem. This has gone on for a few weeks. I have reset the phone (soft, hard and factory reset) with no improvement. Thoughts?

Thanks. Do you know of any official Sprint word on this? Any partial work arounds? I may call them this afternoon as this is really driving me nuts... well if the phone will allow mw to hear them.

When you make a call and the phone sits and makes no noise, toggle the speaker phone on and off and I bet the other person is waiting on theother line wondering why you didn't say anything for a few seconds. Happens to me all the time.

[WTF] You're not my mom!

Hi,
Today when i was going to call my mom, my genius DHD decided to call Feliz, a bar/club in my city. I don't even have their number!
Oh, the phone also thought it would be awesome if it started Songbird when i was listening to the HTC music app. You know, 3D sound... HTC, you fail
Has anybody else had this problem?
Yes I had it the day before when I pressed one of my last calls in the dialer it selected a random other contact and called that one instead. I immediately hang up, tried it again and it happened again. The 3rd or 4th time it got it right.... It never happened before or after yet...
Wow that's really a weird bug. Glad I haven't experience that bug (yet)

Most probably this is a network problem
This haven't happen again (today), but i'm almost forced to check the screen everytime i call somebody.
(Sorry about my english today, i've had a "couple" of beers.)

Bazooka...change your name to Booze-acher! XD Anyways the bug must be due to a program you may have in common? Or touch screen defects?
I think it's mostly network related problems.. Had it before on my nokia..
The touchscreen is perfect. I haven't installed apps that can cause this behaviour. Haven't had any problems after that "episode", but i'll report it if it happens again.

Couple of beers? Your problem may be in that area then ;P
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
Hahah, it happened before the beers. I was actually on my way to the store to buy the beer But it didn't happen again while i was on the bottle, so i hope it were a one time thing.

There you go - a solution! If it happens again, you know what to do
On the serious side - I haven't experienced anything like that, but I noticed that on HTC's dialer (both on WM and Android) there is a delay in noting the number you call last, so when you use the list, you may press the right contact, then the dialer puts your last call on the top of list, all the last calls get scrolled one position down and you end up calling the wrong number. Hope I explained it right. It's really simple and very weird at the same time.
Happend to me the othere day too, tried to call somebody, and it seems to have called somebody else.
The number on the display was correct though, which is weird.
Has only happend once though.
The funny thing is that the number it called isn't on my phone. So it called a random number. Which makes it even weirder.

Has not happened to be, yet.
It should be a rare issue though i hope!

Then it's most likely a network issue.

^^ wow it was just a joke...
Maybe your mom forwards her calls to the club.
To chime in, this also happened to me and three other mates, and we all have the DHD. On a couple of occations, we've dialed complete strangers when trying to reach each other. Same story; dialing from either speed-dial or using the contacts app, and the number dialed does not match the person on the other end.
We have the same carrier though, so I'm pretty sure this is a network related issue, but it's weird that I haven't heard of this happening with any other phones that other friends have.
What carrier do you have? I have Tele2.

In call Sound crackling/distortion in receiver

I purchased the Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9500.
I'm facing a crackling/distortion during calls.
I got my handset replaced twice. My 2nd and 3rd handset after replacement also face the same issue.
I have given my handset again for replacemnt.
Anyone facing the same issue?
There's a crackling/distortion during calls at max volume.
+1
I have noticed that too. Beyond a certain sound, there is cracking sound. Happens on Airtel Network.
Yup!!!!!!!!
Same here. More audible when you hear the ring back tone. its like some thin film vibrating over the speaker.
btw I am on airtel too
Same here, when having a call I can hear a crackling sound, it's minor but somehow annoying. Right now I'm not worried but I'm thinking about how it might become a bigger problem in the future.

Take it from me, it is normal.. my colleague who has the S4 told me that he does not have this problem. I personally checked it and realised that the problem is actually there.. but only some of us notice it.. keep the volume above 3-4th level and you should it be fine..

There is a new update on galaxy s4 india today. Update it and see if the problem has reduced. I feel it has reduced but it could just be a placebo effect..

i'm using MEA f/w and still have the crackling sound, but it's much better when using "clear sound" setting
Same here.. with clear sound enabled it it greatly reduced.

Fixed on MF3 :good:
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda app-developers app
I can also confirm that samsung has fixed the problem. I am using MF8.
I don't think this is a software issue, but a hardware one.
I disassembled an S4, I unmounted the earpiece speaker. It comes attached with 2 more sensors.
I made a test call with the back case disassembled so I could press with my finger against the earpiece speaker and the crackling noise dissipated away.
Its like by pressing on it the vibration of the speaker was limited and it sounded pretty normal at max volume.
As a workaround, I inserted a piece of low density foam (found in many packaging boxes) between the earpiece and the front speaker grill and the distortion appeared again, but fainter, after I mounted the back case (speaker assembly) and tightened the screws. Indeed, like others said, its best heard when ring tone is playing when calling someone.
The earpieces is found for $3 on ebay as spare parts, maybe I'll try a new one.
I really hope its not a Samsung design flaw. Check the pics. Thoughts?
I'm pretty upset. I paid a lot of money for this phone, it has a problem and I don't like to send it to service to get it raped by some uncaring hands. I would like to have it changed, I hope its not going to be a difficult process as many things are in my country after you pay the money. How hard was it for you to get it changed?
Has this issue been treated in other threads on the internet?
Little offtopic: the best in call sound experience I had was/is with Blackberry Bold series. They have a clear sound, crisp, no distortion, even with a little bass. Sounds solid. Too bad is that limited.
The problem is with Adapt Sound!, disable it in sound settings [Call Sound] and everything should be fine. Hope this helps:good:

Who do I call to get an RMA?

Hey all, I wanted to ask a couple questions.
1. Is the headphone jack under warranty by Google? Like, one side stopped working.
2. Who do I call/email to get an RMA
3. Are RMA'd phones bad/do they have any problems? One thing I like, don't know if this makes a difference, but in the CPU bin, my phone is "fastest". Don't know if that actually means anything, so yeah.
Thanks!

What do you mean one side of the headphone jack stopped working? You only have one headphone jack.
You have to call Google to request a RMA. I don't think the phone you get will be a defect. That would be counter productive. The CPU bin won't matter. They most likely won't check to see what CPU bin on the phone that will be replaced for you. You should factory reset your phone before sending it in. They might give you a new phone/refurbished device.
Like, one side of the headphones stopped working, also, what's their number? I can't find it o.o

This exact problem happened to me as well, Not so long ago...
Maybe about a week ago at most. My left ear cup is gone but my right ear cup is still working perfectly.
I think it's the contact between the jack and the plug. I'm sending it in next week for a replacement.
I've had my N4 for 9 months until this happened lol
Let me know how it goes!
You ain't the only one.
(855) 836-3987
You have a Google Nexus 4 why not just search google for their number... LOL The phone is under warranty for a year so check when you got it or they will let you know when you speak to them but its not like the new one is expensive at all. How did you get the phone through web or off somebody
Call Google if you bought from Google or call LG if bought from somewhere else(i.e. T-Mobile). And when i was on the phone with Google a week or so ago for an RMA, they said it would most likely end up being a refurb. device.

[Q] Is there a vibration absorber system for the Note 3 to be used as a Dash Cam?

I am starting to record my driving every time I get in the car. I'm just using the camera app but I might switch to a dedicated car dash cam app.
My friend was recently hit in the front of her car. It was totally the other guy's fault but he's claiming that she went into his lane, which is utter BS. Anyway, long story short, a lot of our friends are going to start recording our driving, esp since we all have 64gb micro SD cards anyway...may as well put that storage to good use!
I'm really happy with the results of the recorder except one major issue is that the video is really shaky even though I have it attached to a mount on the windshield.
Is there any way to dampen or absorb the vibrations of the car so the recording can be more clear?
Try the video stabilization in camera settings
I tried that, it makes no noticeable difference.

I've considered doing this a number of times but the thought of using my phone as a cam while a nice dual use feature, it not really that practical. I am also afraid it would get damaged way too easily for that type of purpose when a second device which is desiged to do it will do it better, be a lot more rugged and capable.
I am getting a Drift Innovation HD Ghost for this purpose. They actually make a much less expensive one that does 720 which is more than enough for dash cam usage, but the HD Ghost has a DVR like mode which records over the same memory device automatically and easily saves an incident with the click of a button for later playback. Still a lot of money, but it would keep the phone being my phone and do a much better job at recording the vehicle in motion.
I tried it and 60fps makes no difference.
