Who do I call to get an RMA? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all, I wanted to ask a couple questions.
1. Is the headphone jack under warranty by Google? Like, one side stopped working.
2. Who do I call/email to get an RMA
3. Are RMA'd phones bad/do they have any problems? One thing I like, don't know if this makes a difference, but in the CPU bin, my phone is "fastest". Don't know if that actually means anything, so yeah.
Thanks!

Oh, and also, should I restore to stock before sending it in?

What do you mean one side of the headphone jack stopped working? You only have one headphone jack.
You have to call Google to request a RMA. I don't think the phone you get will be a defect. That would be counter productive. The CPU bin won't matter. They most likely won't check to see what CPU bin on the phone that will be replaced for you. You should factory reset your phone before sending it in. They might give you a new phone/refurbished device.

Like, one side of the headphones stopped working, also, what's their number? I can't find it o.o

It sure doesn't sound like it's the headphone jack. It sounds like the headphones are broken.

Have you tried a different set of headphones?

Same here
This exact problem happened to me as well, Not so long ago...
Maybe about a week ago at most. My left ear cup is gone but my right ear cup is still working perfectly.
I think it's the contact between the jack and the plug. I'm sending it in next week for a replacement.
I've had my N4 for 9 months until this happened lol
Let me know how it goes!
You ain't the only one.

You have a Google Nexus 4 why not just search google for their number... LOL The phone is under warranty for a year so check when you got it or they will let you know when you speak to them but its not like the new one is expensive at all. How did you get the phone through web or off somebody

Call Google if you bought from Google or call LG if bought from somewhere else(i.e. T-Mobile). And when i was on the phone with Google a week or so ago for an RMA, they said it would most likely end up being a refurb. device.

I have the same, and I've read that it's completely normal. From what I read it's got something to do with the camera lens.

[Q] Wife bricked Nexus 4, what can I do with it?

So my wife dropped her Nexus 4 in the toilet bowl and then proceeded to try and call someone to see if it worked. When it shut off, she tried charging it. Things that people say you should not do. I took off the back, disconnected the battery, and tried the rice treatment for 72 hours. Tried charging it and get the red LED. Does not look good and have pretty much accepted that it is bricked. My questions is, what can I do with it? Does Google have a buyback program for broken devices? Does anyone else? Or is it just a paper-weight? Thanks.
Edit..nvm ignore, I didn't read your post properly.
Worst case, you could probably sell some replacement parts off it... since she did call someone, obviously screen is OK...

Try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery maybe that will help, you can try to get a free phone from Google, I did that with my galaxy s 2. Just say you don't know what happened you tried turn on the phone and it didn't work. I am sure they would exchange and usually they are too lazy to open up the phone to see if anything is wrong inside.

parts !!
Call up google, tell them the truth and see if they would be willing to repair. When this happened to me with apple they just charged me $100 to get a new one, not bad considering the screw up was completely my fault.
Call and see what you can do. If you can't do anything buy a nexus 4 that needs a new screen and use yours to repair it. Could find one cheap with a busted screen. Is the back or any part damaged?

Sell the parts that are still functional on eBay, I'm sure somebody could find some use for them.

Next time do the rice treatment from the start. Turning the phone on immediately will most likely cause permanent damage

just kidding.. but RMA your wife and buy a new N4:laugh:
Fully take it apart and wipe each part down with alcohol I read where it worked for some guy

[Q] What to look out for when buying a used Nexus 4?

Here in Pakistan. I'm going to buy a 2nd hand/used Nexus 4. obviously the display, screen etc won't be NEW. But what do I have to look out the MOST for getting it. How to check :-
If the Screen is not replaced? (Touch responsiveness etc)
Battery ingenuine or heavily tampered
If the display is bad or put to bad use?
What you should do is get the cheapest one you can find and make sure it is covered under warranty. Then call google, tell them you got your nexus as a gift and it is not working right, and they will send you a new one. My friend did this and it worked flawlessly.

The first thing you should look out for is whether the device is legit or not. You can do this by looking at the model number on the box. You can also check the kernel, model number, baseband, android version, etc via the phone's settings. All current nexus 4s should run android 4.2.2. To check the internal hardware, I would run a benchmark. If the benchmark score is close or higher than the one listed, then the device should be legitimate. As for the screen, look around the bezel for imperfections and signs of damage. The screen should be black when off, not gray or greenish. However, not as black as the actually bezels and chins. Play around with it, if its genuine it should be responsive.
Lastly, for the battery, you should try charging the device and if the device becomes warm or too hot the battery may have been changed with the wrong MaH and can be aftermarket, possibly able to do damage to your device. If it isn't hot during charging, ask to try out the phone and play games. If the battery life is acceptable, go for it.
Keep in mind that the nexus 4 tends to get hot when running intensive apps. This is normal. Try out the call quality and reception the device could have a damaged radio or speaker and such. Hope this helps.

[Q] Will Google RMA if screen was replaced?

I replaced my screen. And now I am experiencing problems with battery life, and in need of an RMA. My question is how closely does Google look at the device that are shipped back, will they notice that the screen was replaced? I also forgot to put back the blue tab that was connecting the battery and holding the antenna down in place. Will they take the phone apart and find out I had disasebmled it? Also there is a small gap at the bottom between the bezel and the left screw. I think its due to one of the clips not connecting correctly. I could probably fix all those things but I lost my T6 screw driver, so should I worry about any of those things?

Not sure how picky Google is, but I sent a MyTouch slide into T-Mobile with the screen replaced, they noticed. I have no idea how, I put it all back together. I also recently sent my Nexus 4 in to Asurion for a replacement, the screen went wacky and I opened it to see if it was a loose connection. They didn't notice that.
Honestly you won't know until you try.

Headphone jack broken?

Hey everyone, so today while walking home, I noticed that one of my headphones wasn't working and I was pretty pissed because I love my headphones, anyways, so I tried my other headphones and experienced the same problem, so I concluded my phone broke. So, I've spent about 20 minutes poking around with it and blowing air into it, and I've managed to get one side working, but the other side isn't. One thing I noticed was that the side which isn't working is the side with the mic and these headphones -do- have the 4th prong. I don't have any 3 prong headphones to test with, so I'm going to go to my friends house and test with his, but does anyone know how to fix this because I love my four-prong headphones because the clicker and they're just awesome. Thanks, all help is appreciated.
