Any lag? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got the M8 and although I'm decently satisfied with it I'm interested in the S5. I had the S4 which had the typical Samsung lag, and I'm wondering if owners have found that lag to exist on the S5. Do you ever notice any hiccups?

Yes, as usual with TouchWiz.

Should i buy this phone?

hey all, im thinking of getting either a galaxy s3, the htc one x or the galaxy note.
now iv read that the htc one x has serious overheating issues so im not going to bother with that now. so that leaves me with either the galaxy s3 or the galaxy note.
some reports are saying the galaxy s3 has heat issues too but nothing certain.
question is, does the galaxy note have any issues that i should be aware off? if its prone to overheat or failures of other kinds then please let me know and i will not bother to purchase it.
thanks all.

Well there is the emmc issue, which basiccly means if your wipe/factory reset your devices while on a stock ICS rom it can brick your device, other than that no issues really
S3 has the best hardware, fastest CPU and probably the biggest life span since it's newest.
Note has big, amazing screen, great hardware and amazing battery life.
One X has terrible battery life, can't replace battery, no sd card and not that great performance for a quad-core device.
I just got my s3 and have to say speed wise it leaves the note well behind no lag and very smooth overall.
However.
It feels like a toy compared to the note the screen is not all that on the s3 and the note feels a better quality device.
Ive played with the s3 for a bit and now its just sittig there for work duties. the note deffo jas the edge in my books

I'd get the s3. Who knows if Samsung is going to update the note anymore beyond ics... also the s3 has a better processor, it also has a better camera and is certainly more future proof. I'm actually thinking of dumping my own note for the s3, buying two. One for me and one for my partner. I played with it in the store and boy does that device fly. It's just so fast and it seems like it's a lagless device. The note isn't a bad device. But we're talking about a 2011 device vs a 2012 device. Also the new flagship device. I really hope Samsung does keep updating the note because this device is awesome as it has an awesome screen and the pen which originally I found useless but then I started to use it and it's grown on me to the point where I'm not sure I'll be able to survive without it. Haha. How about that? Lol.

Not sent from an i phone....cos im not a fanny
really it depends if the s-pen matters to you or not.
if it doesn't, then just go for the latest and greatest device.

Yes I agree about the lag and smoothness; but only if we're talking about stock roms. Flash your note with a custom rom (CM9), and you won't find a difference plus you will have a wonderful big screen:good:
very tempted with the note, the s3 does seem like the logical choice since its newer has faster tech in it but the s3 forums seem to be complaining about overheating issues. im just not sure if i want to risk going with the s3 for those reasons. iv used the s3 in tescos and it is truly a fast device. im also considering getting a google nexus 7 so not sure if the galaxy note is ideal for me. although it does look amazing since the screen is so big.
main thing is that im worried about the reliability of these devices. if there were no reports of overheating of the galaxy s3 then that would have been my first choice.

[Q] Galaxy S4 Sluggish vs HTC One

Several reviews mention that the the S4 is sluggish compared to the HTC One. I was in the AT&T Store yesterday and did my own testing by restarting both phones to get to a fresh slate, then opening up different apps simultaneously. The first one I did was Facebook. On the HTC One, the app opened and the login screen appeared nearly instantly. Meanwhile the S4 was still loading the app, several seconds later the login screen appeared. This type of lag was consistent across multiple tests I ran.
I really like the HTC One, for many reasons, including the fact that it runs much more quickly, however I ended up ordering the S4 because it has the superior camera, which is very important to me (again, that statement is based on several reviews I've read and looking at a lot of pictures taken on both phones).
I'm somewhat regretting getting the S4, but I am hoping that there is a way to disable some of the bloat on the S4 without rooting to speed things up. The S4 has the faster processor, so the fact that it runs slower in real life I attribute to the fact that Samsung has so many stupid features baked into the phone. Perhaps it's something else, but whatever it is, how can I get the S4 to operate as quickly as the HTC One?
This is a good place to look to get rid of the lag. My S4 is much snappier after freezing some bloat.

[Q] Touchwiz lag, any difference with Exynos vs Snapdragon?

I am currently using a HTC M8. It has no lag and is very fluid. I am looking to go with a Note 4 either with Exynos or Snapdragon. I heard and read that Touchwiz has a lot of lag and stutters.
http://www.sammobile.com/2014/10/31/its-2014-samsung-why-does-your-software-still-lag-even-on-a-flagship-device/
I am wondering if the lag is worse on Exynos or Snapdragon or they both are the same lag. I have not had a Note since the 1st version. The first note had considerable lag.
Thanks.

Im and old nexus and htc one m7 user im using exynos version for 2 weeks atm. All i can say its not htc smooth cuz longer animation times etc. but its very smooth and fast only lag i notice is recent app menu but its not like 2 seconds mentioned in article only 0.5 sec for me and it doesnt happen always. I didnt see other lags mentioned in the article. Like gallery is super fast for me even i use sd card and alot of photos and videos in it i didnt see any slow loading etc. Its definetly great nothing really bothered me since i hated touchwiz lag always.
From what I read, more people complain about lag with Snapdragon. Maybe there are more of those devices, who knows. I will likely get the Exynos version N910C, if I can find it online. I don't like carrier locks.
No lag or stutter on my Snapdragon Note 4, I'm very happy with it, runs faster than my S4. The Recent app menu has a slight delay but that's it, seems to be how it was made, generally great performance.
I wonder if the article writer may be using a branded Note 4?
In fact, it seems that the snapdragon users also get a better battery life. So I suspect there is a link.
Everything I've read and seen online points towards the snapdragon being the better out the two for speed, battery and future development. Want to make sure i get the right one myself, esp as im going to have it for the next 2 years...
Snapdragon may be the way to go but it is on At&t in my case. I believe they boot lock their versions. Tethering would be a problem. I may wait for the developer version to get to At&t. Verizon already has one. I'll wait at this point. Other option would be to go with unlocked Nexus 6. Choices.... and even Edge if it ever gets released.

Battery is mostly same and exynos,is definetly faster. Custom stuff will be better on snapdragon for sure.

G900F generalized lag

Good day everyone. I came from the Note 3 N9005. Just can't help but notice the S5's generalized lag. Lag is everywhere. Almost all the apps I used to use on my Note 3 smoothly, lags here.
All apps stutter specially when scrolling quickly, which I didn't get on my Note 3. Tried restoring several times to no avail.
Is there any way to reduce the lag? Will flashing the Poland Lollipop firmware solve this?
I dont want to root or anything, and void my warranty, so everything, i like to stay stock as what i did with my Note 3 without any problems.
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
I also got from Note 3 to S5 and got the same feeling but you will get used to it in a month or so. Note 3 was better optimized and also had 3Gb of ram that's why was snappier. My only regret is that I didn't bought HTC M8 after I sold Note 3 because I am super tired of touchwiz and the device still lags even on the new lollipop update.
you made a big fail bro' to sell your note 3 and buy the crappy laggy s5 i came from s4 to s5 i had no lagg and no problems with my s4 and s5 feels like a downgrade it is overpriced peace of crap bad sammy bad

Dont know what launcher people use to experience lagg on the S5. TouchWiz? I use Nova Prime and everything is fluid even games.
@ciprian- was considering the M8 but the black strip with the logo is an ultimate eyesore and a no-no for me.
@fliptroniks-no transitions everything disabled. My real gripe is with apps. They all lag when i scroll quick.
@Prosafe- i am using Apex. Still have the stutter in-app.
If i had to root to get a smooth experience on this, this is trash. Didn't have to do it on my Note 2, S4, One M7, One Max, G2 and Note 3. Cant go back to Note 3 as i have already sold it.
So sell it....

Leave Nexus 5 and buy Galaxy S5?

I've heard about lags concerning the Galaxy S5, that's the reason why I stick with the Nexus 5.
Is the Galaxy S5 laggy like the S3 was? I had an S3 and it was pretty much a pile of cr#p.
Now I have the Nexus 5 and It is really great, never lags, but... I love Samsung. And I'm willing to get an Galaxy S5.
Does it worth it?
Thanks!

My previous phone was a Nexus 5 and it really worth the upgrade for me. For me the 16GB Nexus 5 wasn't enough and the battery life was really bad ( compared to the Galaxy S5). My unlocked international SM-G900F doesn't have any problems. It is smooth and fast.
