G900F generalized lag - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good day everyone. I came from the Note 3 N9005. Just can't help but notice the S5's generalized lag. Lag is everywhere. Almost all the apps I used to use on my Note 3 smoothly, lags here.
All apps stutter specially when scrolling quickly, which I didn't get on my Note 3. Tried restoring several times to no avail.
Is there any way to reduce the lag? Will flashing the Poland Lollipop firmware solve this?
I dont want to root or anything, and void my warranty, so everything, i like to stay stock as what i did with my Note 3 without any problems.
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

I also got from Note 3 to S5 and got the same feeling but you will get used to it in a month or so. Note 3 was better optimized and also had 3Gb of ram that's why was snappier. My only regret is that I didn't bought HTC M8 after I sold Note 3 because I am super tired of touchwiz and the device still lags even on the new lollipop update.

you made a big fail bro' to sell your note 3 and buy the crappy laggy s5 i came from s4 to s5 i had no lagg and no problems with my s4 and s5 feels like a downgrade it is overpriced peace of crap bad sammy bad
Sent from my SM-G900F using XDA Free mobile app

still having the bad lagg the only good thing about s5 is the baterry life i have lagg in every app and game i play subway surfer lagg omg on my s4 never had laggn in subway surfer or any other app on my s4 turned off s voice and the animations and never had lagg but in s5 omg this is really bad for a phone that coasts 500 euro off contract too bad

Dont know what launcher people use to experience lagg on the S5. TouchWiz? I use Nova Prime and everything is fluid even games.

@ciprian- was considering the M8 but the black strip with the logo is an ultimate eyesore and a no-no for me.
@fliptroniks-no transitions everything disabled. My real gripe is with apps. They all lag when i scroll quick.
@Prosafe- i am using Apex. Still have the stutter in-app.
If i had to root to get a smooth experience on this, this is trash. Didn't have to do it on my Note 2, S4, One M7, One Max, G2 and Note 3. Cant go back to Note 3 as i have already sold it.

So sell it....

Switching from Galaxy S2

I am currently using gs2 and in love with the galaxy note 's massive screen.
One of the main reason I love gs2 was the extremely snappy user experience, no matter how many apps I open. It never slows down.
One thing I worrying about the galaxy note is that has the same snappy response like gs2 does? I read on some user reports on internet. Some says the galaxy note sometimes laggy and feel sluggish when you open few resources hog apps. Maybe not enough rams?
any input from experience user who switched from gs2 to galaxy note are appreciated. thanks

I had the same problem. Yes the Note was slower than the S2, that is mainly caused by a huge pile of bloatware that slows the cpu down. I would buy the phone, root it and install a good custom rom (KL3) and remove a lot of unnessary apps with root explorer. That really makes a world of difference, it`s faster now than the S2

galaxy note has the same amount of ram, it just doesnt seem to maintain the same amount of free ram, at least not on the stock ROM.
when i first booted up my galaxy S2, it had 550mb free ram. when i first booted up my note, it only had 300mb or so of free ram. swapping launchers helps it a little.
but for the most part, a few apps will be fine. launch too many and gingerbread will manage the ram by dumping some of the unused apps.

alternatively, wait for ICS in q1 2012, and take advantage of the fact that it lets you freeze bloatware without rooting.
I got em both and yes the GNote was a little sluggish with the stock software. But with the stock KL3 its a huge difference for me. Its now as snappy as my S2.
The only thing i notice is that scrolling in some settings lists and such can be choppy sometimes. And between homescreens if you have loads of widgets and shortcuts. But with ICS i think this device will be flawless (if you have big pockets )
I have had my note for about a week. I have updated to the latest ota update (KKA) and installed all my programs from my GS2.
I have no noticeable lag. Scrolling is fast and fluid and it seems as snappy as the GS2.
Thanks you all : ). I ordered my Galaxy Note !!
waiting for the delivery . I think it gonna be awesome hehe~

[Q] Note 3 lemon?

When comparing my new Note 3 - factory reset and stock - to my Note 2 - factory reset and stock, the Note 3 is CONSIDERABLY slower.
Both on the same WIFI connection, in both Chrome and Stock Browser, the Note 3 will take anywhere from 10-12 seconds to open xda-developers.com whereas the Note 2 will be open in 2-3 seconds. I'm doing this side by side. With video, the Note 3 stutters no matter which application I use: YouTube, Chrome's built in player for MP4's, or the stock video player. The videos are unwatchable. The same videos on the Note 2 open without an issue and play perfectly.
Am I missing something here? Some people had said they went into developer options and Forced GPU rendering, turned off S-Voice's double tap on the home button option and made sure the Smart Screen options for playing video were off.
Do any of you have this issue? Is this just a lemon? I got mine on the glitch so I kept my unlimited data, I still have about 5 days to return it. (I went on an impromptu vacation, so I wasn't able to play with this until yesterday.
Can't say I agree with you. I have a note 2 that I still use on at&t and my note 3 blows it away. Could be just yours I'm not sure. However both of my devices are rooted and I haven't had my note 2 stock in sometime.

If yours is blowing the Note 2 away, I guess mine certainly has something wrong with it. I can barely find any Google search results for "Note 3 slow" "Note 3 Lag" or similar. I don't think I've been so frustrated in a while. You know that feeling of new tech in your hands? Was just a letdown when I opened it and noticed how slow it was.
Hmm can't say the same over here unfortunately. I'm very pleased with it. Have you rooted? You seem like you aren't the type to root or you are just comparing stock to stock?

Haven't rooted, but doubt that will do much to improve speed. Will I root? Yea, I just need a phone that does what it's supposed to first. I'm comparing stock to stock because my Note 2 was going to be sold on ebay (I usually return anything I sell back to a stock phone) and the Note 3 because it's a simple out-of-the-box comparison.
Basically, I opened the box, started playing around and realized the difference in speed, so it halted my plans.
Run an antutu benchmark, what are your results? If it's a problem with the hardware that should be reflected in the score. For reference I think my phone runs smoothly, I scored a 35904 on antunu.

Scored a 36323 - but still have problems playing any video or browsing the net. Even opening the app drawer to run Antutu lags for me incredibly.
Could it be touchwiz?

Installed Nova and restarted - snappier - but videos are still choppy. Every 2-3 seconds of an .mp4 it stutters. Thanks for the advice though!

I know benchmarks don't mean shnikey.. but seriously I have yet to break 36k (35269 was my last test), had mine since last Saturday and don't have the slightest hint of lag or stutter anywhere whether it be in app, app drawer etc.. would definitely look at the apps running and start disabling stuff this thread is helpful if you haven't done so http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2478589

[Q] How is your note 3 holding up?

I currently own a HTC One M8 and thinking about going to the note 3. Because I love big screens and a decent camera on a phone, none of which the M8 has.
So I just wanna know how you guys are finding it ?

Ive owned this device for almost 6 months now and I love it more today than yesterday.
Seriously though, the only flaw I see on the note 3 is its camera in low light. Other than that, a simple installation of nova launcher and your note 3 would be as smooth as silk. No other issues whatsoever.
I've used many, many Android phones in my time, and the Note 3 is the best. Bar none.

I had the s4 for barely a month and I was going crazy at how awful it felt in my hand. Got a good offer to jump to the note 3 and did so in a heartbeat. Dont regret it even one bit! Although still plastic it feels much better. I used nova launcher mostly and recently rooted and jumped to cm11 and the phone works great! I dont game much, a quick session if im bored or a new fun game comes out, but that lasts for only a day or two. I have noticed a slight battery drop on cm11. Its still in "beta" so im not to worried about that. But on touchwizz it could last a long time on H+ data. Just couldnt stand tw, its so ugly!
I'm coming from S4, and camera here is that much better, escpecially night mod! Love it.. And everything else.. Two sim model rocks.. I think for now dual sim note 3 is the best device you can find on market. So go ahead, buy one, fck htc.. i've had M7, and didn't like it.. liked the look, but not their android and camera for example

Been a nexus fan, used to root devices as soon as I got home from the shop. The Knox flag is a major issue for those of us that like to toy around with different ROMs and tweaks, but the device itself is spectacular. I'm very pleased by the build quality, light and quality materials, very, very, very smooth. 8 days uptime and still devouring everything I throw at it. Battery life is more then decent and the overall experience is a joy. Buy it.

Are you a bit obsessed with this S5 TW being brought to Note 3 thing ?
I don't like it at all, the S5 TW.
Just sayin.
And to contribute to the thread... Of course, go for the Note 3. I own it since its launch, and I couldn't tell you nothing bad about it. The screen size and the super amoled are perfect. The camera rules too, a bunch of options. And for me, having the Spen (the reason I bought the phone), it's even more of a joy to use the phone.
I'm running a custom stock kitkat rom, visually changed some things with Wanam xposed and I love it.

Lord no, not obsessed. What i meant more is the bloatware that is included with the Sammy roms. Installing Echo rom as we speak with all the S5 UI looks
Almost got rid of it and got m8 but thanks to this leak their is hope

[Q] Lag even after Firmware Update

Has anyone noticed a considerable lag continuing even after Samsung's most recent Firmware Update for the Note 4? Some users and commentators are praising the Note 4 for its lightning speeds and no lag, but somehow I cannot say the same. I have serious lags in most any operation of the Note 4, but especially in the Camera.
Is it also normal, that there is static when the speaker is turned up?

I can't believe i'm saying this but i have been using a Galaxy Note 4 for two weeks and i have never experienced even the tiny bit of lag. You should try disabling apps you are not using, disable sync etc. If nothing works you should try factory reseting your phone.
I'm using a tmobile note 4 on the latest anj4 firmware and my phone is almost unusable.
There's so much keyboard lag regardless of what keyboard I use.
Scrolling sometimes just completely stops until I actually pick up the s pen from the display.
I actually had a Samsung rep at best buy look at it and he couldn't believe how bad it was. I sent it to Samsung but of course since I had rooted it they said it was my fault.
I've been rooting and roming phones since the captivate and have never had an issue.
My note 4 has been like this from day 1, I bought it new from eBay which was my mistake. Now I'm basically stuck with it and at time's the lag is so bad I want to throw it out of the window.
Mine is definitely hardware defective. I have a Lumia 520 that runs smoother to be honest.
I guess the only way I can get any money back from it is to sell it for parts I suppose.

Software performance and UI lag

Hello
I have read many hours about this phone and will probably be my next device, but some questions before I make a final decision.
I have been a HTC user and always tried to give Samsung a chance but after a time the UI got so laggy, it turns me back to HTC with Sense.
This phone will be my Company/job phone and I don't want to make software every month to get it smooth again.
Have Samsung addressed the lag in Touchwiz? Do you have noticed any lag or slowdowns? For me the lags have always started and got worse after some weeks.
Any suggestions or help will make my decision easier.

I've been using it for like 3 weeks now and I never noticed any lag even once! What I've read about is that Samsung is using extensive RAM management so if you open too many applications together, when you switch back to older applications, it reloads instead of resuming the session, never happened to me though but I don't keep much applications open at one time (may be 10 or so at most). You are right, the android devices are always fast when you take it out of the box and gradually start showing lags after a while (specially Samsung devices). However, I have more than 50 applications installed ( I use premium apps only, don't go for apps that load adds) including FPS games, Social Media, Podcasts, Utilities, etc. etc. and didn't notice any lag at all even if I don't kill any background application for days (I tried that). Even with 3 Gigs of RAM, I heard that S6 and S6 Edge doesn't show any lag so I'm assuming S6 Edge+/Note 5 with 4 Gigs of RAM would be better anyway. If you're thinking of getting it for Job/Business purpose, I don't see any problem at all with it.

Thank you mate, it sounds promising.
What is the phone you have used before and can compare with?
for my part, i have used long times :
samsung galaxy S - S2 - S3 - S4
samsung galaxy note 2 - 3 - 4
lg g3
Htc one M8
iphone 4S - 5S - 6plus
And now my new galaxy s6 edge plus !
I can tell you, it's the first time i have the feeling of the smooth experience of an iphone, or htc one m8 in my hands with samsung
Impressive, really (50 apps, premium or not installed)
Imo you can close your eyes and go for it

My daily driver was Note 2 - No phone could beat the battery life of this one
I've used S2, S3, Nexus 4 and Note 4. Never noticed much lag on Note 4 either, but with S6 Edge+, its even faster and responsive (or may be I tell that to myself since I spent $900 on it). Either way, if the budget isn't a constraint, this is a phone to go for this year!

How long have you been with your Edge+?
If it is as smooth as M8 or better i will definitely buy it.
One week only, because it's avaible in france since one week
i will see with some weeks,
but the difference its notable if i compare with the feeling of the firsts weeks of the phone i quote
I was a M8 user for a long time. I wouldn't say it's smoother than HTC (ARHD) but you won't notice any lags on Edge+ As for the battery I used to get around 7 hour SOT on my M8 (Custom kernel & Custom ROM) On here i'm still unrooted I get around 5:30 minutes SOT with texting and few YouTube etc. considering the higher resolution and higher screen resolution it's only natural.
Reassured you won't regret getting S6 Edge+
I will wait two weeks to see if the slow downs will be reported. It's promising to hear no lags, but they usually comes after some weeks.
