[Q] Permission Manager (App Ops) for rooted 4.2.2? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just came from an HTC Rezound with Tachyon mod (CM10.2) that had Privacy Guard which I loved very much.
My new Verizon LG G2 has 4.2.2. Apparently Android 4.2.2 doesn't allow the App Ops type apps or functionality. This is too bad. I think it's important that we be able to manage permissions of apps.
Is there any way around this OTHER THAN installing a custom ROM? I am rooted, but prefer not to install a custom ROM just yet.

Well I would just say to try te apps ops xposed module but app ops was implemented with android 4.3 so maybe there's an app on play store that could help
Sent from my LG-D800 running stock kk, rooted with philz using XDA app

I've looked at several "permission managers" at the store, but none of them seem to have the functionality that I'm hoping for.
Oh well, thanks for the reply though.

Xposed framework on MF3

Hey guys,
I'm new here and had a couple of questions regarding installing Xposed Framework on my I-337 on MF3. I rooted my S4 previous to being informed the bootloader could not be unlocked.
Since I can't flash any custom roms, Xposed sounds like a good idea but I'm still concerned about installing anything without being able to back anything up.
Is it safe to install the Xposed framework on an S4 running MF3?
Thanks.

I've been researching this as well, one forum that I've found helpful is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2383484 I have the Xposed framework downloaded, but like to read up on everything before I do anything that could lead to an issue. Obviously, most things that you do to your device involve a certain degree of risk, but if you fully prepare yourself, you minimize that risk. From what I've seen, it looks fairly safe, but I'm still reading. I'd imagine that you've seen this forum as well or you wouldn't be asking about this.....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401 Anyway, I'll most likely be installing soon, if I do so before you, I'll let you know how it goes for me anyway.
Ok, yeah... If you could keep me updated that would be awesome. I'm itching to just try it but I think I'm gonna hold off.

Much appreciated.

I installed it without reading any info (I was in noob mode)
It installed just fine as I used it to apply Master Key Dual Fix, then later
Android Tuner Module
Greenify
Wanam Xposed
I am new so maybe you want a season veteran to comment.... but it works just fine
Quick and painless
*To cover my butt - I do not give this FACT that it works for me without any issue as a reason to blame me if it does not work for you

I installed it and everything worked fine for me. I had a problem once, when I installed xthemes a module one of the themes i installed using the module was not compatable and my phone then didn't boot up and just got stuck on the att logo. This point I was able to go into stock recovery and wipe everything and do a factory reset and phone worked just fine again. I still had root but all my data was gone.

You can find the Xposed framework installer in the links that I posted earlier. You can download Wanam Xposed from the Play store. Just follow the instructions and everything should go well.....did for me anyway.

Greenify is a good one too
It allows you to hibernate applications (not to be confused with FREEZING) which frees memory and states "increases battery duration".
It does appear to do this. I have been using Greenify for 3 days and I am getting 18 hrs of charge on this
*Normal phone calls - a few heavy games from time to time
battery life is incredible
Have fun fellas

There is one, in fact. If you have the newest version of xposed, you can get it from the download tab in the app (Galaxy S4 Multiple Widgets). I've been running xposed with Wanam, Maximize Lockscreen Widgets, and App Settings, and it works just fine as long as you don't install tweaks made for AOSP or that say they aren't compatible.

I don't know much about safestrap unfortunately. If you use the forum search and type in MDOB it will pop up. Another ROM by iB4STid is GoldenEye. They work super great. Your gonna have to search around for safestrap I don't think its ROM specific.
Safestrap is still new to are S4 but so far most of the roms that MDL are using can be used with Safestrap as well as a few of the "other carrier" roms .as long as u flash the MF3 kernel module zip that you should flash after any rom u decide to use.as always read the Safestrap threads for more details. Hashcode gets all credit

Don't use the adblocker called adblock for it. You can check it out at adblock.org. it works great but you can't send any MMS when you install it and it's a pain to get MMS to work again afterwards.

Sixaxis Controller is an amazing app for any gamer. It allows you to sync a Sixaxis controller (PS3 Dual Shock 3) via bluetooth rather than having to connect it directly into your device with an OTG cable.
This is awesome because you can use the controller wirelessly and use an MHL 2.0 adapter to play on the bigscreen. Sixaxis Controller also allows you to emulate touch and create your own profiles for each individual controller button. Making games that aren't compatible with controller's work. (Modern Combat 4, Order & Chaos, Ravensword, etc.) You can find game mapping here on XDA for the app.
Greenify is great for saving battery life and keeping your phone nice and speedy. It disallows apps you choose to run in the background uncontrolled; definitely an app for any rooted user!
If you flashed your kernel as well I'd recommend Trickster Mod, It's a pretty generic tweaker. The built in profiles can help tremendously in saving battery life, and game performance for helping with frame rate issues (though the S4 shouldn't have any). Depending on your kernel you can also use the tool to OC (Overclock) your CPU, GPU, and voltages. But be very careful if you decide to do any OC'ing, as it could brick your device.
Titanium Backup is great for uninstalling any bloatware you may have on your OS (if you're using stock TW that's rooted). You can also make backups of your system for recoveries. The pro version offers a lot more good features, if you want to pay for it.
Root Browser is a nice neat file manager for rooted users. It has built is ROM features as well as being able to deal with opening and zipping .jar, .zip, .apk, etc. It's really nifty.

Unroot after rom flash?

I'm interested in flashing the Google Play Edition Rom to my Galaxy S4 I9505.
The walk throughs seem simple enough.
I've noticed that you need to root your phone it install the roms. After install is it possible to Unroot your device once your running the GPE rom? As I know some apps such as banking apps don't run on rooted devices.
Thanks

If you need to lock ur phone back I mean unroot
Just use triangle away app then flash the stock odin version of your phone with specific region.
And you can get it from sammobile
Sent from my SM-N900 using Tapatalk
You don't necessarily have to run stock to run "unrooted", because even some custom ROMs come without superuser priviledges. If you're talking about a specific ROM that comes stock rooted (which most are), then you might be able to get by if you simply disallow root access to that specific program. Otherwise, there are apps like Hide My Root which are supposed to help you do what you're trying to accomplish. If I were you, I would set it up and try it out on the actual program(s) you're worried about. It would be a shame to stay on stock just because you weren't sure if it would work.
You can temporarily unroot your device using super user app itself.. check it out in settings
Thanks a lot for all of the replies, you've been a great help.
I've not got round to rooting or flashing the GPE rom yet might do it this week.
This is my 1st time doing this so a little uncertain on some little things.
I know about uprooting, getting TWRP running, using Odin, then flashing the ROM. but just read that the ROM needs a new modem file flashing. Can you do this through TWRP or as I'm thinking do it through Odin after I've got the ROM up and running?
Thanks again for all your responses guys, been a great help

Note 3 Specific Root Apps??

Now That I am finally rooted, I want to ask my fellow Note 3 users what are some awesome Root apps to install?
I already have and know the basics like greenify, titanium back up, es explorer and some others. But, I'm wondering if there is anything like S-Pen apps? I am probably going to install Xposed framework, since I loved using it on my GNEX.
I have yet to try any roms out yet, but Hyperdrive or beans looks like it is going to be one of the first I try. Those seem to have a nice mix of customs options in it, while also being bug free.

I'd check out beans first. I've tried every rom out there and its the only one so far that I havent had wifi issues with. Search S-pen in the store and search a bit. You'll find some cool ones.

An appeal to devs

I love my device (802) but one thing is really bugging me about it in it's present state.......I hate the fact that the navigation buttons take up a large portion of my beautiful screen in most applications
Firstly, I like to keep my phone unrooted so that I can enjoy skygo, meaning custom roms and mods which require root are out of the question for me and, secondly, I have tried the hide navbar mod which is included in the stock Korean rom and I think it is an excellent solution and one which LG has successfully developed and implemented for those lucky few.
There is an app in the playstore https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.ppareit.immersivemode which attempts to achieve immersive mode across many kitkat devices enabling the user to enable immersive mode for any selected app just like the implementation on the Korean rom without the necessity for root. This app achieves what I require but, unfortunately, is very buggy.
I would like to appeal to the devs and those many others here with more nouse than me to look at the above playstore apk and also the official LG implementation and see if it may be possible to implement this efficiently on a non-rooted device.
Whilst I am rambling on, could somebody tell me what would happen if I rooted my stock rom, made a small system adjustment then unrooted my device again? Would my system mod still work and would skygo detect my device as not rooted? The reason that I ask this is I wondered if it was impossible to somehow implement the Korean 'hide nav bars' mod on a rooted stock rom, unroot the device and still have this modification working?
Any thoughts on this (and investigation perhaps ) would be very much appreciated.

Why don't you try something like this ??
http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.devadvance.rootcloak
I use it on some other apps and it works for me, and it looks like your app might be also supported. Check in the XDA thread if it is.
If it works for you, use then G2 Tweaksbox for the NavBar customization.

Thanks but skygo doesn't work with this . The checking procedure that it employs seems to be very thorough and, to my knowledge, nobody has ever cracked this properly to work on a rooted or un-supported device. The same being the case when trying to enable hdmi out with it.
I was hoping that there would be some way of implementing hiding of nav bars on a non-rooted device as the play store app that I mentioned in my previous post proves that this can be implemented to quite a large degree, so I thought, if somebody was to work on this device specifically, they may be able to make it bug free.
You could remove the navbar altogether but then you would have to rely 100% on things such as LMT.
For info, I am now very happy. I have installed Cloudystock Rom then unrooted it with superSU pro. To my great surprise, the Rom still works flawlessly and my sky apps do too.
I wasn't aware this was possible. I am now going to work on stock Rom zip with the hide navigation button feature added.

I've just un-rooted cloudystock with supersSU pro and kept custom recovery and everything else the same and, yes, the sky apps worked fine as did the rom . For me, this is just what I wanted and I was very surprised that it works, including hide nav keys.
Now I want to try to create a completely stock 80220d but with the navbar mod included then unroot it. I have pm'd cloudya about which files from the cloudy stock rom that I require but haven't had a reply yet.
....didn't you create a flashable 80220d zip somewhere? I can't seem to find it. I am not very experienced at this and I guess by your response that you are interested in the same thing and perhaps you will be better at this than me?
EDIT I changed ro.build.target_country from COM to EU for another reason. Perhaps this might help?
I changed fingerprint and a few other bits back to d802 in build.prop, removed root. Now running cloudyflex. Can hide keys per app in options. And can watch sky go. Perfect.
