Xposed framework on MF3 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hey guys,
I'm new here and had a couple of questions regarding installing Xposed Framework on my I-337 on MF3. I rooted my S4 previous to being informed the bootloader could not be unlocked.
Since I can't flash any custom roms, Xposed sounds like a good idea but I'm still concerned about installing anything without being able to back anything up.
Is it safe to install the Xposed framework on an S4 running MF3?
Thanks.

I've been researching this as well, one forum that I've found helpful is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2383484 I have the Xposed framework downloaded, but like to read up on everything before I do anything that could lead to an issue. Obviously, most things that you do to your device involve a certain degree of risk, but if you fully prepare yourself, you minimize that risk. From what I've seen, it looks fairly safe, but I'm still reading. I'd imagine that you've seen this forum as well or you wouldn't be asking about this.....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401 Anyway, I'll most likely be installing soon, if I do so before you, I'll let you know how it goes for me anyway.

Ok, yeah... If you could keep me updated that would be awesome. I'm itching to just try it but I think I'm gonna hold off.

I'd like to install xposed as well. Can you guys update this thread when you find out if we can or not?
Much appreciated.
Thanks.

I installed it without reading any info (I was in noob mode)
It installed just fine as I used it to apply Master Key Dual Fix, then later
Android Tuner Module
Greenify
Wanam Xposed
I am new so maybe you want a season veteran to comment.... but it works just fine
Quick and painless
*To cover my butt - I do not give this FACT that it works for me without any issue as a reason to blame me if it does not work for you

I installed it and everything worked fine for me. I had a problem once, when I installed xthemes a module one of the themes i installed using the module was not compatable and my phone then didn't boot up and just got stuck on the att logo. This point I was able to go into stock recovery and wipe everything and do a factory reset and phone worked just fine again. I still had root but all my data was gone.

You can find the Xposed framework installer in the links that I posted earlier. You can download Wanam Xposed from the Play store. Just follow the instructions and everything should go well.....did for me anyway.

Greenify is a good one too
It allows you to hibernate applications (not to be confused with FREEZING) which frees memory and states "increases battery duration".
It does appear to do this. I have been using Greenify for 3 days and I am getting 18 hrs of charge on this
*Normal phone calls - a few heavy games from time to time
battery life is incredible
Have fun fellas

There is one, in fact. If you have the newest version of xposed, you can get it from the download tab in the app (Galaxy S4 Multiple Widgets). I've been running xposed with Wanam, Maximize Lockscreen Widgets, and App Settings, and it works just fine as long as you don't install tweaks made for AOSP or that say they aren't compatible.

[Q] MDL upgrade with extra .APK

So I finally pulled the trigger and followed the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277480
I am using Shabby's MDL and am absolutely floored by the huge difference in size differences from MDC to MDL. However I am curious about a few differences between the MDC. First let me say that everyone that has worked on this (Shabby, SXTP, Mudavo, etc) Thank you.
Now I am a newbie, but I am trying to educate myself, so please be patient while I ask questions. Under the Application Manager I am seeing a few apps (Com2uSPoker, Match3VS ) for example. I've already frozen Samsung Knox, and SEAndroid with Titanium Pro, but I'm wondering what the issue would be with me to remove some of these APKs all together (TripAdvisor and Swype for example)
Ideally I would like to do what I use to with the HTC and say pull the apks I don't use and put in ones that I like such as NovaLauncher over the EasyLauncher that is there. I am however very paranoid of having my brand new shiny turn into a brand new door stop.
Any advice or articles that you guys can point my way would be very appreciated. So my question is this, can I do all of the things I mentioned here? Would anything I do here be extremely bad?

Nah I'm sticking to the modified stock kernel. I did notice that some of my quadrant scores dropped when I killed some of the apps. Weird, but I'll figure it out.

anyone have this 4.3 rom running?

is installing this 4.3 rom on our i337 possible?
using this guide?

with the 4.2.2 loki kernel?
please and thanks.

So motochopper root method does not work?

I thought there was a post about 4.3 from the Google Play edition already being ported to the I337?
I have SuperSU installed, I will try a root explorer to check out if it actually works.
On another note, does anyone know how to get to the app switcher? it seems to be removed from the home button.
EDIT: SuperSU does not work at all, still no way to root. I read that it was due to binaries needing to be updated for the new version.

I will check it out in a moment to confirm if that is how it is done!
EDIT: Confirmed!
I'm seeing the ROMs for the I9505, can that one be flashed or is there one specifically for I337 yet? As well, right now I have the KT-SGS4-TW Loki'd kernel with the 4.2 GE ROM on it, would I just be able to flash the 4.3 over that, or should a different kernel be used? And finally, more of a beginner question, loosing root won't mess with the custom recovery, will it? I'll still be able to access TWRP to flash something different?
The 4.3 download named "Android-4.3-I9505GUEUBMFP-Deodexed-I9505.zip" appears malicious <-- my pc says this is malicious. can anyone else confirm this is a safe download. this is from the "ATT-sgh-i337 android development" section of this forum. Thx in advance. yes I know it says "I9505GUEUBMFP". Which is why i posted what forum topic its from.

Question about rooting for first time (4.4)

I've never rooted a phone before and I'm a little nervous about doing so. I don't fully understand the difference between all the various ROM's. For instance are there advantages and disadvantages between the different ROMs that are floating around? Also what happens when 4.4 comes out? I'm assuming I'd be blocked from Updating. Would I have to wait until someone releases a 4.4 ROM? The main reason I want to Root is to remove all the useless apps Samsung/Tmobile stuck on my phone, but when I check out the processes, I don't even see that they are running. Would it even be worth it to root if this is the only reason I am doing it for?
I also see people talking about removing TouchWiz once they are rooted. I already am using Nova, but if I remove TouchWiz, will I just have the basic Android UI like I had on my Nexus? Or will I have to stick with a 3rd party launcher? Does removing TouchWiz result in a noticeable speed difference?
Hey rooting isn't for everyone. You could root and get rid of certain apps and bloatware. What I did before rooting was just disable and hide those apps.
It was fine but then as root user for a long time, I rooted and now use it more to tweak the look and feel.
The best way to know a rom is to try it.
I have used alot on this forum but currently feel comfortable with Omega Rom v6 with Wanam Xposed.
The possibilities are endless and as long as you understand the Knox flag then you should be free to try and do what you will.
Last if you ever want to just go back to stock and leave it there with updates it's pretty easy.
Sam mobile has always the latest updates available to download and you install those with Odin.
Good luck

Thanks for the response! May I ask how you disabled and hid the apps without rooting?
Nevermind actually, I figured out how to turn them off from the App info screen. But is there a way to hide them so they don't show up at all?
Edit: lol nevermind again. They disappear when you turn them off. Thank you so much for letting me know about this! I had no idea this was possible

I agree 100%. I just got my daughter a Moto G GPE and since there are no working recoveries out for it yet, I couldn't flash a custom ROM. However, with root and Xsposed/Gravity Box, I can set up everything she (and I) need on her phone. In some ways, it makes custom roms obsolete for casual users.
+1. It is one of the best things that happened on Android lately

Install TWRP, and boot into it. Reboot the phone with TWRP it will ask about root, apply it, boot the phone and run the superuser installer.
I like the looks of Gravitybox but it seems to be messing up the magnet-activated wake-up of the phone when using the flip cover - at least with the settings I am using for this module - so I had to deactivate the module for now until I can find out if there is a solution with different settings ...

[Q] Complete Root Noob

Hey all I have been lurking this thread for awhile and today I saw that we have finally been granted root access. Now I am going to be totally honest, I am a total NOOB and have no idea what i can do with a rooted phone.
Can someone point me in the right direction as to how i can uninstall bloat? And install fancy modifications???? I would greatly appreciate any help! Thank you!
For the bloat I use titanium backup. As for the fancy modifications I would look into xposed

You can PM me if you want. I'll give you some tips/etc. For starters make sure you are rooted and have the latest SuperSu installed. (Check the root thread for a newer version, dont think play store has been updated yet). And then I would recommend installing Titanium Backup (as stated above) and even buying the Pro version for $5, its worth it in the long run if you ask me. I';ve used it on the last 7 android phones ive owned. So it's well paid for itself. once your set there PM me and i'll give you some things to check out.
We may get Safestrap recovery at some point but that will only allow us to flash roms based on the stock kernel. We shall see.

Do yourself a favor and freeze the apps you don't want first, instead of uninstalling. Atleast if you freeze an app with titanium backup and it screws your phone you can just unfreeze it and be good to go.
