Alright, so ive been reluctant to apply the latest firmware updates after all the information ive been hearing regarding knox. So as I am starting to get the bug for flashing something new I just wanted to confirm a few things before I go ahead and pull the trigger on the latest firmware and roms.
Regarding screen mirroring on a stock Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 KitKat [EDIT: Android 4.3, not kitkat], preferably rooted, if the knox counter is tripped (0x1) will there be any issues with screen mirroring? I do remember reading something when all the knox stuff was first going around that tripping the knox counter will affect this. As my PTV3000 is one of my staple pieces of electronic gagetry I would really hate to be unable to mirror to it anymore due to knox.
So if anyone could just confirm for me that screen mirroring will still work as intended running Android 4.3 with Stock Kernel, Rooted, and latest firmware it would be greatly appreciated :fingers-crossed:

No problem buddy.... but if you search a bit... you can update to full 4.3 with MJA modem WITHOUT tripping the Knox Bootloader!

Yea I saw a few posts about that, though im really not worried about the voiding of my warranty at all so I just wanted to ensure that screen mirroring would still work with knox tripped.
so if anyone can just confirm that Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 with Stock Android 4.3, with all the latest firmware including bootloader, stock kernel, rooted will wireless display still function correctly if it is even possible to triangle away after all that?
I don't see why it would change anything. I believe it would function with no problems.

well my only concern is that its known that wireless display will break when not using the stock kernel, or having the status as custom. So just wanted to make sure knox isnt gonna cause some new form of breakage in regards to this if it is tripped since as of now there is no way to reset it.
You only asked about stock kernel. Now I'm confused lol. Jk. Fyi I kept my s4s on mf9.

sorry for the late reply. Yea im thinking im just going to go for it soon and upgrade all the firmware other than the BL and see what goes on with the screen mirroring. If anything ill just have to resort to using the regular wired HDMI dongle i guess.
I am running stock(ish)v04. That ROM comes packaged with a custom kernel. As far as I understand, the kernel is packaged in the boot.img file. Using Heimdall, I flashed the boot.img out of a stock mk2 ROM. However, my wifi wouldn't turn on after that. Screen mirroring doesn't work with a custom kernel, so it seems. I can't find a good MK2 ROM that uses a stock kernel, however.
Anyone have any advise?
just got s4 yesterday. Came with mf3 Now this morning att is pushing an update to my phone... how do I stop it? Anytime I use wifi it startes back to downloading. .. Dont know what it is, or if it will make my wait longe4 for a safe way in, I assume if its from att, its not good! So how can I stop it???
With MF3 your pretty much stuck already. You can root it and install safestrap for MF3 but you are limited to Touchwiz based 4.2.2 Roms. Check out the threads for WHICH ROMS work for it.
The update your getting is most likely the MK2 4.3 firmware. With it you can root and install SafeStrap for MK2, there are some Roms you can run with it but they have to be Touchwiz Roms and based on 4.3 firmwares.
So basically if I was in your shoes I would just take the 4.3 update and root and install Safestrap for MK2. Then flash ShoStock MK2 for a BETTER than Stock experience.
If you could have gotten the S4 with MDL or MDB firmwares you could have used motochopper+casual to root and install an actual full recovery and flash anything you want. But those are hard to find unless you check Swappa for one with eiher of those firmwares.

If I were u.......turn off your wifi and take your att sim card off. ....... and also take your sd card out..... format it to EXfat and follow jortex new root for MF3 firmware. .... so when u rooted. ...u can install titanium back up from play store. ...and uninstall Att software update.apk then u should be ok..... but like RockRatt said.....since from now on everything moving forward with 4.3 base rom. ..... it should be nice to have 4.3 firmware. ......as of right now u able to root using saferoot method or kingo method and u can also install Safestrap recovery v 3.71 ..... Goodluck. .... ..

Unlucky you. Man id be pissed. Good news though im pretty sure google editions work with safestrap which still gives you 4.4. That's ofcourse if kit kat interests you
Thanks guys. I knew to disable the wifi for short term fix. I went ahead and held tight with the MF3 factory software. You guys are correct it is at 4.2.2. I did the root and quarantine of the updater. I just feel that I might be best waiting... I'm afraid that what ever comes down may make everything worse. I'll keep this and hold tight till something comes along that we can odin into it easy... I'm sure it wont be too awful long as this is a popular phone.

If I remove all this ATT bloat, will it harm anything? Dont know what will trip the rom up and make it a nice paper weight. There is NOTHING of att software.

well, its all ways good to update to the newest version cuz its improve stability, speed, battery life (not all ways) and more... i did not see any official change log, but for me its better on the battery, and feels quicker to me... could be placibo effect.
bare in mind that if you go for 4.4.2 you cant go back to 4.3... and you cant root your device without tripping knox as of this time, maybe in the future.
hope that halps

I would say stay on the jb till kikat is released for all regions and more devolopment is done on it. You won't lose your data if you decide to flash it anyway...

I never allowed the first big update (im on 4.3), assuming Verizon would slow my phone down. So, what steps and which ROM do you suggest? I am really just looking to tether(wired and wireless) and want the phone to stay smooth. I don't want to lose any S-Pen or Samsung functions but do not care for Touchwiz.
Thanks for advice!

S-pen is a touchwiz implementation so for the most part you are stuck there. Go through the stock based ROMs, find something debloated, back up, try it, then maybe look for some AOSP type themes and apps for your phone. You will have to do some of the leg work and research as there is no easy path for you to get what you are asking.

Should I accept the OTA update first or does it not matter? I'm not sure what NC2 vs NC4 is.

But most Samsung apps would still not work without TW.
I just installed official Touchwiz Lollipop from Samsung on my Galaxy S5 and i just wanted to ask you guys...
I think kitkat have a definitely better battery life and a much more beautiful lock screen... but Lollipop comes with ART and great design improvments on system apps.
Which one do you think it's better? Kitkat or Lollipop and why
KitKat is better (for now).
Better battery life, no proximity sensor issues, no wifi issues, no light sensor issues , TW works smoother, overal experience is better even with no ART. Benchmark scores is not everything.
I got Lollipop 3 times and every time I downgraded to KitKat stock rom with root.
No exposed framework on LP (yet).
Maybe in couple of months when LP will be more mature project I will update.
Android One is going to have Android 5.1 soon. For now they sticked with 4.4.4.
I think that Samsung was to hurry with 5.0. They should update to 4.4.4 (especialy they had 4.4.4 done for G901).
I beg to differ with qubbus, I think LP is a much better experience than KK.
- Much more refined and better looking UI;
- I've had none of the issues stated in his post. Battery is the same for me, no issues with the sensors.
- I indeed miss Xposed but for now I rather have the small tweaks of Lollipop.
All in all, the choice is yours.

Battery was the main reason i choosed to downgrade.. I couldn't get even through 1 day !
The rest was fine for me. ( Even if i didn't liked that new lockscreen too much )
i got my s5 on kitkat and coming from a nexus4 I was quite unsatisfied with the smoothness. but some dev's at the N4 community are really far at solving bugs and memory leaks so lollipop is running quite perfect on the N4. anyway, after I flashed lollipop on my S5 for the first time I was quite happy with the smoothness. much better then KitKat! yesterday I downgraded to KitKat because I wanted to try wanam xposed. but I almost instantly returned to lollipop.. much, much better! it looks better (too bad it's still a long way from stock android), it's much smoother and for me; battery life isn't much different. I didn't encounter any bugs, for me lollipop is running bug less but I have to say I don't use any of Samsung's extra features..

funny how people have different problems with the same OS
I wonder if there like me who have problems in the game of Modern Combat 5? It fails at startup after lollipop update.

Lol, thanks. Yes, I understand what it means, my apologies for not elaborating. Are you saying that you're flashing the LP tar through Odin, then "downgrading" to KK by flashing the KK tar through Odin, or just flashing down up and down with zips through custom recovery?

Yup, that's what a lot of people are doing after updating via KIES or OTA to Lollipop and finding it worse than KK
Im considering it myself, although don't seem to be having as many issues as others are posting since factory resetting and freezing a few bloatware apps
For me KK is better than Lollipop.
1. Most mods here don't work on Lollipop, yet
2. Xposed isn't supported on Lollipop (BIG ISSUE FOR ME)
3. Notification dropdown background is transparent. I know I can change it if I flash AllianceRom 6.0, but the above 2 points still stand
Gonna wait until Rovo fixes Xposed (hopefully) and for most mods on XDA to recieve a Lollipop version as well (some have it now, but not even close to all of them)
Soo.yeah...Lollipop is smoother and better looking, which means absolutely nothing if you can't mod it the way you want to!
---------- Post added at 09:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:43 PM ----------
If I wanna try Lollipop, can I restore my 4.4.2 nandroid backup over my 5.0 firmware just like I would normally if I'm on KK?

There seems to be a lot of conflicting info about it, but Ive read a good few people saying they have managed it fine with no problems after flashing back to KK - not done it myself yet though
But yea, a lot of places are saying if you flash from a KNOX enabled firmware back to a firmware without KNOX, it won't work due to the bootloader, but members here and droid central forums report it working 100% fine
Was there ever a build of KK that had KNOX ?
If yes, then that's likely the build people are flashing back to, if not, then I have no idea
Im still on the fence about flashing back, or just forgetting the warranty and rooting this thing on lollipop as it is
I suppose even if it bricked, you'd be able to recover with ODIN
I'm coming back to KitKat. I didn't like android lollipop. Some of the aplications are not supported and battery life is terrible
