Note 3 LTE no option for 4G network connection - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello people,
I have recently acquired a Note 3 LTE (Snapdragon 800) model of the phone which is 4G compatible but for some reason, I get no option to select a 4G network. The only options I have to chose from is 3G/2G (auto connect) and 3G only. I have attached a screenshot below showing what I mean. On other Note 3 LTE phones, I've seen a different set of options such as LTE/WCDMA/GSM etc...
Why is it so? I am running the latest version of android according to Samsung update which is version 4.3. So is this a software issue or what? My service provider says that samsung should release a software update to solve this issue but I don't understand why this is the case. If anyone can clarify this issue for me I would be very glad.
Thanks!

What region are you in?
What firmware version are you on?
Has your LTE been activated by your provider yet?

I am in Beirut, Lebanon.
I also have a Galaxy S4 with the latest updates and I get a 4G connection in certain areas. So yes, 4G had already been activated by my provider.
I've attached another screenshot because I am not sure what you mean by firmware version.

Can you compare the S4 and Note 3 "apn settings" to see if they are the same? You might have to manually input your carrier's apn settings into the note.

The apn settings are the same since they have been both configured automatically when the service provider sent the settings to be saved.
What else could it be?

Try flashing one of the other LTE N9005 roms and see if you get the listings under settings appear( backup first). I know some roms take this option out like at&t here in the states.

Better yet try this:
open your dialer and type *#2263# and see if you get the lte option.

Alright so good news. I received a message telling me that there is a new firmware update available, so I downloaded and installed it. Now I get a 4G option even though I never once got a 4G signal during the day. I guess waiting is my only option now. What do you think?

Hi guys.
I am facing a somewhat similar issue. What makes it different is that I had the LTE option when I bought the Note 3, although there was no 4G service in the country at that time. However, I think it was after an update that I no longer have the LTE option available to in my network settings. Right now, in my home country, LTE hasnt yet been introduced. But like I said, there was no LTE in my previous country of residence either yet I had the LTE option.
By the way, the code *#2263# does nothing at all on my set.
Appreciate any feedback and resolutions.
Thanks

If your phone is rooted (seems like it isn't) then you can manually edit a config file to enable LTE. If not, you'll be waiting for another OTA update I think.

Hello , I have a USIM, and note3 4G ( bought from KSA and tried on 4G in Dubai and KSA) . I did not get any updates on wifi nor through kies .
Did you change you upload a new platform ( kitkat) before you got the update ? or did you just wake up and found an update ?
PS : I live in Beirut Lebanon too .
Thanks

Me too with the same problem
I bought my phone from Dubai.. i saw the LTE option when i used my phone there.. but then i flashed Poland's latest firmware and rooted my device.. now i am in South Asia , and my phone doesn't show any LTE option..! :silly: weird..

I'll say it again: Each CSC has a different list of 4G activated providers that are not directly related to the region they are in.
Which means that a device can have 4G activated for 50 providers, just not the one your SIM belongs to. As such, if you insert the SIM, the 4G toggle is disabled.
Each provider has to individually pass on the fact that they have 4G to Samsung. Even then it's not activated for each CSC.
As such, my DBT Note 3 had 4G on T-Mobile NL months before the TL and PHN ROMs had it.
Also, South Asia uses a different frequency your EU firmware can't detect.

How to enable LTE

Hi
I ve moved from a S4 to Note 4 but cant see in mobile network the option 4G, just automatic 3G/2G and 2G. How can I enable it?
First, it's a Note 3, Note 4 yet ^^ (<- I like the word play here ^^ "not for yet" was not my initial intention ^^)
You might have the Exynos version that is not 4G compliant.
Check the version of your phone in settings : is it SM 9000 ? Or SM 9005 ?

SM9005. The telco company (Movistar) says they will launch a new ROM in a few weeks and samsung too. With S4 we could activate L4 with Service Mode menu (*#0011#) but doesnt work for Note 3....
I thought that option on the S4 was just to activate DC-HSPDA, don't think the option was anything to do with the actual bands associated with 4G "LTE".
May not work as DC may already be enabled.

With my S4 and using the same SIM card and can see the option "4G/3G/2G automatic" and conntects to LTE, with speeds 40/15. But with the Note 3 and same SIM that option is missing and only connect to 3G
I don't have that issue in my note 3 (N9005)

So you have LTE with Movistar in Madrid, and it shows the "LTE" info?
Just curious as I have Tuenti (I know they don't have 4G yet), and next week I will be back to Ireland...

I flashed the Polish 4.4.2, root and I have a slightly different problem: on my SM-N9005 the LTE option is available and selected but I cannot connect to the carrier's LTE network. Other phones can connect to the LTE network with this same sim card.
I think that although LTE is enabled the modem may not be setup as per Samsung new region blocking policies...
Any idea what to do to enable LTE?

No Lte speeds
Good day, good people, I recently purchased GN3 here in Freeport, Bahamas.
The phone came with these specs:
Product Code: TTT
PDA: N900W8UBUBMJ4
CSC: N900W8UUBBMJ2
MODEM: N900W8UBUBMJ3.... with no Lte option available in the network toggle.
After downloading the OTA update my Note then had these specs:
Product Code: TTT
PDA: N900W8UBUBMJ4
CSC: N900W8UUBBML1
MODEM: N900W8UBUBMJ3.... after which the lte option was now in place. (pics to follow)
So here's the problem, my network provider has confirmed that its lte network operates on 700MHz Class 17, I've connected with my AT&T S2 Skyrocket flawlessly, but my note seems unable to connect with the network despite all the of the correct settings being in place.
Is there something with the modem settings that I may not be aware of that could be preventing this, and is a way to change or modify it in order to get lte service? Or is there a posibilty that I have a defective unit or even a defective sim card? Thanx for you help.

no LTE icon after 4.4.2 update

Hello people
Im posting this here as I havent managed to find a solution yet.
I have a German T-mobile 16GB d802, only the device was purchased and using it in Greece.
When I was using 4.2.2 everything was perfectly fine concerning LTE with my mobile provider.
After flashing 4.4.2, I noticed that I data traffic was not working anymore. After searching I found that my APN settings were gone, so I manually inserted them.
Following that, I noticed that when I am on LTE network and have data traffic enabled, I don't see the LTE icon on the top right corner on top of the signal sign anymore. The data traffic is working though, so it seems to be a missing icon for some reason.
In 3g/HSPA and Edge I see the relevant signs, the only problem is when using LTE
A friend of mine who has the exact same version of the phone has got the exact same issue on a different cellphone operator. So its not related to the network.
I reported this to LG using the local site, but got the reply that I haven't bought the phone from the local market and they don't know the changes made from tmobile..
On tmobile website you cannot report an issue unless you have a german tmobile subscription or for business issues, so I have sent them my problem stating Im contacting them for business related reasons
Anyone else got the same issue? Anyone using German T-mobile? Anyone who has any ideas?
update:
Got a reply from T-mobile Germany that they need to have the phone in their hands in order to troubleshoot and they cannot help me
In your dialer, enter: *#*#4636#*#*
Then go to Phone Info, scroll down and set the drop down to LTE/GSM/WCDMA or something similar with LTE at the start.
See if that works...
This is something you have to do each time you boot though.

What you propose is valid if you cannot enable LTE.
I dont have that problem. I have the option to enable LTE.
The problem is that after my phone connects to LTE I dont see the LTE or 4G icon on the top right side next to the signal sign.
But LTE works perfectly fine, I managed to make a speed test to almost 54Mbps yesterday
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/785031726
So it not the regular issue that most people have with LTE being disabled, my issue is that the icon is missing
Thanks for replying though

Do you by any chance speak German so you report the issue as well? Maybe if they get many tickets they will fix ut

[Q] N900V KK4.4.2 Can't enable 4G LTE

Hello,
I recently purchased a Samsung Note 3 SM-900V. As a previous Note 1 user I wanted to upgrade my device as I really enjoyed my Note 1.
I use a carrier called Simple Mobile, they are a sub carrier to T-Mobile. Meaning of course, that they use the T-Mobile network.
The problem is this: Simple Mobile (T-Mobile) prefers to use 3g/4g/LTE connections for their data and texting services. Meanwhile, Verizon uses H+ connections primarily, or as I understand it. This difference in signal, from what I can understand through a few days worth of research and combing forums, is the leading reason why my N900V wont upload/download pics, poor signal, etc. etc. DO bear in mind that Verizon software on this device forces the use of the H+ network though it does use 3G as well. Just never 4G or better.
From what I understand it is this H+ preference that the phone has me locked into that is causing my problems. It would seem that this device is capable of using 4G LTE and from my research, being able to use Band 4 would fix most all of my issues.
The major problems itemized are as follows:
Error message "This SIM is from an unknown source"
Unable to send/receive MMS texts
Reduced signal strength when compared to using my same SIM in my Note 1 side by side in pinpoint locations
Complete loss of signal in areas where SIM/Note 1 device had very good signal
As such, from what I can understand, if this device could access Band 4 then it would communicate with the Simple Mobile/T-Mobile network and erase the Sim card error message, send MMS and receive, and finally.... match the coverage I was accustomed to before I used this SIM on this device.
I've have considered a few solutions to include rooting the note 3 so I can enable 4G LTE, installing a factory version of KK 4.4.2 without the Verizon Brand and its bloatware forcing me to use H+ and as a final resort, selling the device (which I do not want to do). Though none of these options seem possible considering I'm using a N900V. At least not without bricking it.
Each time I think I've found a solution, there's a compatibility issue with my device, the software/firmware version, the chipset, etc, etc.
I've attached a screenshot that details some of the specs of this particular phone.
Any options or help would be appreciated.
Welcome Wallace
ok, thanks
so basically, you bought a verizon phone and using a sim card of another network.
Have you tried ringing verizon and asking them about this problem.
I have installed roms on uk version samsung S and S2.
What we now need to know is if American version supports Band 4 at all....I hope someone answers your questions here...
Admins/Moderators here should be able to give us a good answer.
Did you try...

It is on global now and still only fluctuates between 3G and H+. Never 4G or LTE.
I've read about this issue from others but the fix was to root and then switch the phone to use band 4 by default.

Did you try "3g/4g/lte" instead of global? Band 4 is the latest and greatest and not available everywhere yet. The normal band you should see is band 13 (at least for me). There is a good thread in the "General" section on "Service Modes" you should look at.

I have tried the CDMA/LTE/EVDO option under network settings but I doesnt seem to work any better. It still gives me the "SIM card is from an unknown source" error message and will not load or send MMS at all.
I will look at the serve modes section and see what it says. Thanks!

That may be true. I'm not sure and I cant validate it. However, it would seem from what I am reading that I need to switch it to B4.
I haven't rooted it and still looking for a way to root a KK 4.4.2 N900V. Once I have access to that menu I can test whether these methods from other threads and sites are accurate.
I'm not saying you are wrong by the way but under the current settings my phone doesn't talk to my network and incurs an entire host of other problems.

That may be true. I'm not sure and I cant validate it. However, it would seem from what I am reading that I need to be connected to B4 if I am not already like you insist. If I am, then it still isnt working like it should.
I read this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582747) and it sort of supports what you and I are both saying. However, at the root of the problem, I need to be able to root.

If you are on the NC4 OTA then use towelroot. Do a search for "KK root" and you will find all the methods available for all versions.

I have tried the CDMA/LTE/EVDO option under network settings but I doesnt seem to work any better. It still gives me the "SIM card is from an unknown source" error message and will not load or send MMS at all.
I will look at the serve modes section and see what it says. Thanks!

I have switched from global to GSM under network settings. Going to see how that works. I get poor service with global setting but I do get service. Under CDMA I get zero signal. Even though I had 3 bars a second ago under global.
I'll let it sit on GSM for a few hours and see how that works.

I read the entire article a few times just to see what it had to say about my problem. Unfortunately, it does state that I must be rooted to even proceed with most steps.
Back to square one. I need to root it, however, the threads on here that refer to rooting with the N900V and KK 4.4.2 in mind say that there is not any way to root this device with this operating system.
:crying:

Hey there,
So i followed the instructions for towel root, both versions, and I dont think the change took.
I installed ES File Explorer to make some changes from the advice of another thread and those changes cant be made because I cant find the file or the directory. Even after enabling options for root and display hidden files.
So, even after installing Towel Root, when I go to access the service menu using any of the codes I get no action whatsoever.
Im still in the same boat as well as far as not finding a proper KK 4.4.2 root file/method for N900V that does not follow itself with threads saying how it doesnt work at all.
Is there another way to root that I'm not considering or havent found yet?
Thanks for listening.
Try this:
-Dial *#27663368378#
-UE settings & info
-Settings
-Protocol
-Nas
-Network control
-Pref mode set
-Choose GSM_WCDMA_LTE_ONLY
You may need to reboot. This worked for me on NC2 with a MetroPCS sim. If it fails then double check your APN. You may also try to factory reset the phone with your Sim inside. When you do a clean install you get more options under Network Mode in settings.

hi,
You have to contact you service provider and ask them to enable it for your sim/device. Only then should you see it in your options
.Also note it has nothing to do with root.
Take into account that service provider offers LTE/4G and your device is LTE capable and you are in a LTE/4G reception area etc etc
good luck
You might have n910h if u don't have the LTE option in networks or flash different firmware

No it's 910C
My provider told me after few day samsung gives us little update that gives in our country that option
Hey bro, go to settings/more networks/mobile networks/network mode... see if you have one option with LTE/WCDMA/GSM, if you don't have it, your device is probably a clone, because 910c has the 4G option, it doesn't depends of your SIM card or 4g on your region.

Not necessarily. It could be disabled within firmware. Couple years back I had lte ready Note 2. Only after tmobile network was ready for lte OTA update enabled lte option in settings.

Hmm, i've never seen it before, search more about it.

Note fe won't get 4g lte. 3g only.

Hi there! My note fe can only get 3g. My model is n935k and I am a current an ATT user. I tried to force the phone to LTE only but when I did that, the phone was totally out of service. No network and no call service. I thought note fe LTE band will be worldwide, so is there any setting that I missed?

1. make sure your APN is ATT Nextgenphone (should have been auto-configured when you booted phone the first time) 2. Try reseting your network settings (this will remove bluetooth and wifi settings) settings->general management->reset->reset network settings and/or 3.Call ATT and make sure your account is (still) provisioned for LTE. i have the same model as you do and have no problem getting LTE service. picture below shows i'm connecting to LTE Bands 2, 4, 5 & 17.
I reset the network setting and still doesn't work. The apn is nextgenphone.

LTE Discovery from the play store... Substratum theme for Samsung (Swift Dark) for icons.

And I have tried some app like force phone to switch to lte. After forcing the phone to lte, the phone signal is lost and become emergency call only.
I had the same exact problem and I'm also on AT&T. Restarting the phone fixed it, at least for now.

if you haven't done this already, consider trying another SIM. I'd also post screen shots of your configurations; could be something we've missed in our attempts to help you resolve your issues.
