Note 3 LTE no option for 4G network connection

Hello people,
I have recently acquired a Note 3 LTE (Snapdragon 800) model of the phone which is 4G compatible but for some reason, I get no option to select a 4G network. The only options I have to chose from is 3G/2G (auto connect) and 3G only. I have attached a screenshot below showing what I mean. On other Note 3 LTE phones, I've seen a different set of options such as LTE/WCDMA/GSM etc...
Why is it so? I am running the latest version of android according to Samsung update which is version 4.3. So is this a software issue or what? My service provider says that samsung should release a software update to solve this issue but I don't understand why this is the case. If anyone can clarify this issue for me I would be very glad.

I am in Beirut, Lebanon.
I also have a Galaxy S4 with the latest updates and I get a 4G connection in certain areas. So yes, 4G had already been activated by my provider.
I've attached another screenshot because I am not sure what you mean by firmware version.

Can you compare the S4 and Note 3 "apn settings" to see if they are the same? You might have to manually input your carrier's apn settings into the note.

The apn settings are the same since they have been both configured automatically when the service provider sent the settings to be saved.
What else could it be?

Try flashing one of the other LTE N9005 roms and see if you get the listings under settings appear( backup first). I know some roms take this option out like at&t here in the states.

open your dialer and type *#2263# and see if you get the lte option.

Alright so good news. I received a message telling me that there is a new firmware update available, so I downloaded and installed it. Now I get a 4G option even though I never once got a 4G signal during the day. I guess waiting is my only option now. What do you think?

I did but got this message: "Connection problem or invalid MMI code". What is this code supposed to tell me?

Hi guys.
I am facing a somewhat similar issue. What makes it different is that I had the LTE option when I bought the Note 3, although there was no 4G service in the country at that time. However, I think it was after an update that I no longer have the LTE option available to in my network settings. Right now, in my home country, LTE hasnt yet been introduced. But like I said, there was no LTE in my previous country of residence either yet I had the LTE option.
By the way, the code *#2263# does nothing at all on my set.

If your phone is rooted (seems like it isn't) then you can manually edit a config file to enable LTE. If not, you'll be waiting for another OTA update I think.

sadi2e you have to go Touch or Alfa to replace your SIM with a 4g compatible one, btw ignore the costumer support telling you that you won't receive any signal if you get out of 4g zones,they are total idiots
I replaced mine and now getting 13 14 mb/s speeds

Nice to see a Lebanese on these forums. I've already changed my sim card to the 4G capable one but I still don't see a 4G icon wherever I go.

Im from there too originally. Did you change your modem at some point? It could be that your current modem is not LTE capable. Or let me ask you this: Did you install a stock rom from a different country other then the one that your device is intended to? bas bi beirut fi LTE aw wen maken?

What modem are you talking about? The rom is stock. LTE is only available in Beirut and some other places surrounding it.

Hello , I have a USIM, and note3 4G ( bought from KSA and tried on 4G in Dubai and KSA) . I did not get any updates on wifi nor through kies .
Did you change you upload a new platform ( kitkat) before you got the update ? or did you just wake up and found an update ?

Me too with the same problem
I bought my phone from Dubai.. i saw the LTE option when i used my phone there.. but then i flashed Poland's latest firmware and rooted my device.. now i am in South Asia , and my phone doesn't show any LTE option..! :silly: weird..

I'll say it again: Each CSC has a different list of 4G activated providers that are not directly related to the region they are in.
Which means that a device can have 4G activated for 50 providers, just not the one your SIM belongs to. As such, if you insert the SIM, the 4G toggle is disabled.
Each provider has to individually pass on the fact that they have 4G to Samsung. Even then it's not activated for each CSC.
As such, my DBT Note 3 had 4G on T-Mobile NL months before the TL and PHN ROMs had it.
Also, South Asia uses a different frequency your EU firmware can't detect.

The LTE connection of my NOTE 3 seems to be KO.
I choose the LTE connections in settings with good APN.
So i did crossed tests :
1 / I never get the LTE Connection. I only get H+ (Dual Carrier). If i put my SIM Card on an other phone, LTE Works.
2 / My wife get LTE on her phone with her card. If i put, her SIMcard, in my Note, LTE doesnt work too, only H+ (Dual Carrier)
Do you think it's an hardware issue ? Is there something else to check ?

Do you and your wife have exactly the same *#1234# values? Type that in your phone dialer and compare.

She has one S4 Mini and i have Note 3, so we dont have the same values.

Were they both purchased in the same region?

No me in XEF et her in DBT. But it could change the network sensibility so hard ?

If you can flash it to DBT region you could get better signal.
Remember to backup your /efs first using TWRP.

With a different modem, you could catch more signals.

Hi,
I can't seem to figure this out, I have the N9005 and currently reside in the US. Anyone knows how to turn on the 4G/LTE on the phone? My provider has 4g/LTE here and want to be able to use 4G/LTE instead of H/H+ that shows on the phone.

Enter *#2263# and select LTE Mode.

Check your APN settings in more networks/mobile network/APN. Make sure your on the providers LTE APN.

N9005 does not support many of the LTE frequencies in US.

Change with a root explorer of your choice (e.g. Root Explorer, Solid Explorer or EF File Explorer) the value“false”*in file*persist.radio.lteon*into*“true”*by way of build-in text editor of the root explorer. The file is located in root/data/property. Be sure permissions of*persist.radio.lteon*are set to rw, after altering the file save the file and make it read-only. Reboot your phone, now you will see and be able to pick the option* “LTE/WCDMA/GSM *(auto connect)” in Network Mode menu.*Important: before altering ANY file on your phone be sure you have a copy of the original, unaltered file!!!*Advantage of this solution: even after a phone reboot the option* “LTE/WCDMA/GSM *(auto connect)” will remain visible/activated.
2. When you are afraid or not tech-savvy enough to alter phone files you can download*“Advanced Signal Status” on Google Play. Start the app, go into*Advanced Info*located on bottom of the app and subsequent choose *LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) in the first sub-menu of Advanced Info. In phone Network Mode menu option* “LTE/WCDMA/GSM *(auto connect)” will still not be visible but nevertheless you will be able to use LTE/4G. Disadvantage of this solution will be that after every phone reboot you have to start “Advanced Signal Status app” and reactivate LTE/GSM/CDMA option.
Please remember that LTE/4G will only work in area’s with LTE and your phone data-plan includes the use of LTE. Good luck and have fun!

I have n9005 note 3 I had to do this to get lte option.
If you have it goto network settings and change mode to LTE.

So you have LTE mode selected in settings, but it still doesn't go past H+, and you're sure you're in a 4G area?
Firmwares and secret codes aren't going to solve this.
Your provider likely uses a different frequency than the phone supports.
You could simply look up your provider frequencies and check them against the phone specs. If they don't match, game over.

Well I have the n9005 and currently is on the T-mobile US carrier. I thought n9005 has one frequency that is the same as the T-mobile 4G/LTE unless im mistaken?

The LTE frequencies for the N9005 are 800/850/900/1800/2100/2600.
T-Mobile US uses 700/1700/1900/(2100)
The 2100 overlaps, but unfortunately T-Mobile US only uses it as a support network. Meaning it's not active by default. 1900Mhz is the main network.

Follow this topic to add required bands to your phone.

Wait a moment is your SIM is LTE/4G supported?

Some providers only allow you to connect to the 4G, if you have such contract. For example, I am customer of Tele2 in Estonia and I can not use 4G either, because I currently have such contract, which only permits me to use speeds upto HSPA+.

I tried using my sim card on a T-mobile phone and was able to get 4G/LTE at no problem

Thanks for link, I tried doing it but something is not working, I'm not sure if its cause I need to change the modem or maybe the rom is not working or maybe something else.

I am from Pakistan and recently my Carrier "Warid" started 4G LTE Services. I bought N9005 to use LTE services and got my 4G sim too. But I couldn't manage to use 4G. I called my Carrier helpline and asked them they said only Samsung Note 4 and Samsung Alpha are supported on their network, if you want to use it you can do it by rooting it on your own responsibility. I searched and found numerous ways which helped others but non of them worked for me. Here is the list of the following methods.
1- I read somewhere by *#0011# I should my LTE as GWL - This thing didn't work.
2- I edited my persist.radio.lteon to "true" and because of it I can see LTE/CDMA/GSM under network modes and I have selected LTE/CDMA/GSM. Still no LTE.
3- I found that system/csc/common/system/etc/lteon_netlist.xml didn't had my carrier numeric codes. I entered those but still no LTE.
4- I found that system/build.prop telephony.lteOnCdmaDevice=0 I changed it to 1. Still no LTE
5- I tried an app Advanced Signal Status, but still no results.
Please experts shed some light on this matter as there are many N9005 users in my country who are facing the similar LTE issues.

Huhmm, it seems you have discovered many methods. You have done good job, I think.
My suggestion is try to update your phone to the latest stock firmware.
If it is already on the latest firmware and still doesn't work, try the Method 3 above, but you must also edit the files \system\csc\XXX\system\csc\contents.db (where XXX = region code).
You must modify their contents to reflect the SIZE of the new file \system\csc\common\system\etc\lteon_netlist.xml (after adding your carrier numeric codes).

HI... THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE WITH MANY USERS ALL OVER THE WORLD... IT IS A TOTAL MATTER OF SUPPORTED LTE BANDS.... BANDS MEANS FREQUENCY OVER WHICH YOUR DEVICE CONNECTS TO THE NETWORK PROVIDER FOR DATA AND CALLS. AND CURRENTLY WAHID 4G IS IN A TESTING STAGE, I CANNOT FIND WHICH BANDS IT SUPPORT ON 1800 MHZ. LTE WORKS IN TWO STAGES FIRST IT WILL GO ON SUPPOSE 1800 MHZ AND THEN BAND 1, 2, 3, ETC ON THAT FREQUENCY. WHICH I THINK DOES NOT MATCH WARID'S BAND IT ONLY MATCHES FREQUENCY THAT IS 1800 MHZ.

THESE ARE DIFFERENT TYPES OF LTE THEY ONLY DIFFER IN SUPPORTED BANDS AS WELL 2 OR 3 FREQUENCIES. SO WAIT FOR UPGRADATION OF YOUR CARRIER.

My suggestion is try to update your phone to the latest stock firmware.
If it is already on the latest firmware and still doesn't work, try the Method 3 above, but you must also edit the files \system\csc\XXX\system\csc\contents.db (where XXX = region code).
You must modify their contents to reflect the SIZE of the new file \system\csc\common\system\etc\lteon_netlist.xml (after adding your carrier numeric codes).

Thank You for the response sir, I tried to edit contents.db by using HEX EDITOR but couldn't understand. Can you please elaborate a bit more ?

Ok, edit your lteon_netlist.xml as required, save it, note its size (in bytes) and convert to Hex value, e.g. AB12. Then open the file contents.db using any hex editor, search for the string lteon_netlist.xml, 2 bytes right after that string is the file size. Replace them with the new size (in hex) that you have noted above. Finally save it and reboot your device.
Please follow step by step carefully.

Thank You for the response sir, Warid 4G is officially launched now. Warid transmits 4G on 1800MHZ and 3Band. I have seen people here who are using Warid 4G services on N9005 just by using *#0011# and then going into LTE menu and Preference mode as GWL and it worked for them. A friend of mine is using Samsung S4 I9505 (he bought it used) 4G services are working perfectly in his phone. Right now my phone is using latest firmware which is N9005XXUGNJ2 CSC Country UAE.

I have the same problem, cannot get LTE (Warid Tel, Pakistan) to work on N9005. I did what you said. Change the hex value as per the new size in bytes of lteon_netlist.xml file in contents.db. But still the same problem. I'm running Hong Kong TGY - N9005ZHUENJ1

One of my friend is using LTE services of Warid in his N9005, he did nothing special he just dialed *#0011# and he set GWL as a Pref Mode and his LTE services are working perfectly.
Today I switched my phone and I placed my LTE sim card into my friend's Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505 (Non-Rooted). I just dialed *#0011* and switched on LTE and the 4G signals popped up just after the reboot. :S He is using the UAE firmware and even I'm using the firmware of UAE. I don't know what's the problem here. I called my network helpline they said "May be binary of his phone is updated". :S Any suggestions experts ?

hi lot of time u dont get LTE signals so have u got the signals where your live and second if your not getting LTE some time in UK and US this problems happens so if all of those things u do its still not working then i Suggest go see the android Experts wherever you live...... if then its not working then sell the phone and get the new one or something that has less problems like this

Yes Sir I live in a 4G coverage area, this issue is with most of the N9005 Warid users they are not able to connect 4G services with this phone. Warid has no answers for this question, may be I'll switch to Sony Xperia Z2 or wait for Official 5.0 lollipop to fix this bug.

No sir nothing worked out for me. Samsung has blocked LTE to all mobile phones except Samsung Note 4 and Samsung Alpha just to enhance their sales of these two phones.

Are you sure? It is even possible? Maybe it is

when i bought my note it also had UAE firmware installed.... then i downloaded and flashed UK FIRMWARE 4.4.2 ending as UGNG1 from sammobile.com. So the problem may be in the firmware.... well in 90% cases its the firmware... so try it.. flashing a stock rom of n9005 device on your n9005 will not void your warranty or not brick it... it is totally safe to flash usin odin software... just google it... otherwise im there to help.... astold above that warid transmits 4g on 1800mhz and on band 3 then n9005 should have 4g working.

this is regard to the lte option ...i ve rooted my phone and enabled the lte radio file and it works . but now i want to update it to lolipop and was wondering whether this problem persist on lolipop as well or have they fixed it.

4G on 910C

Hello, today in my region officialy proceed 4G network, my sim card is ready to 4g, but in menu there is no option to choose 4g, only wcdma/2g showing, can you advice me what can i do? Thank you

hi,
You have to contact you service provider and ask them to enable it for your sim/device. Only then should you see it in your options
.Also note it has nothing to do with root.
Take into account that service provider offers LTE/4G and your device is LTE capable and you are in a LTE/4G reception area etc etc

You might have n910h if u don't have the LTE option in networks or flash different firmware

My provider told me after few day samsung gives us little update that gives in our country that option

Hey bro, go to settings/more networks/mobile networks/network mode... see if you have one option with LTE/WCDMA/GSM, if you don't have it, your device is probably a clone, because 910c has the 4G option, it doesn't depends of your SIM card or 4g on your region.

No not clone, in my country every note4 910c have this problem and samsung store said that on 4 february will unlock that option. After this tutorial 4 g works

Not necessarily. It could be disabled within firmware. Couple years back I had lte ready Note 2. Only after tmobile network was ready for lte OTA update enabled lte option in settings.
