My S4 has the original firmware (MDL) and I have since installed a custom recovery (the loki method). I am now running GoldenEye 4.3, which is based off the Internation S4. I love it. I love what my phone can do. Anyway, I downloaded triangle away and it says the binary is official and the counter is 0. I did not see Samsung Knox Warranty 0x0 or 0x1 anywhere. Would I have this if I did the original OTA update to 4.3 from AT&T? I'm guessing its best never to upgrade and stay far away from the knox crap. So much for the Galaxy S5 then. ):
Why did Samsung ever have to implement the Knox 0x0 crap? If its so important to them voiding people's warranties, then why didn't they originally do it when the S4 launched?

....With pushed OTA the Bootloader would add a Knox warranty flag to the download mode screen.

....Afaik no. Recent postings indicate it's not 4.3 compatible. Check your. ROM thread for Knox status.

For the record: Triangle Away is not compatible with any locked bootloader and I don't believe it resets KNOX yet anyways. I think that if you have loki exploit you can use it, but I'm not entirely sure. It's only for the flash counter anyways.
The reason root and recovery methods are different is because with each new firmware Samsung patches the old security flaws that let us have root and recovery in the first place. I don't know if that's at their discretion or at the carrier's request (the locked bootloaders are at carrier request and Samsung must update the security on them to protect their business interests).
Not every S4 gets the KNOX counter, only those with the bootloader from the 4.3 update.

Wow. What a shame. It looks like they are doing everything to stop custom roms and root. After the loki method, it got really hard. Seems like more devices would be bricked now, than they would before.
I am wondering why they are cracking down so much now. The AT&T Galaxy S2 (i777) and S3 had unlocked bootloaders and huge development communities.
+1 now many are thinking of ditching their carriers & mfr in favor of costlier, but mod friendlier alternatives truer to Android's progressive core concept.

Yeah, but its still never the same with another carrier's device. For example, I used the T-Mobile Note 3 on AT&T and the experience was not so great. Sure, I had custom recovery and root, but it had that knox warranty thing. It also struggled tremendously holding onto an LTE signal. The overall signal was poor.
Purchasing the international S4 comes with the trade off of loosing LTE. I am hoping with the S5, Samsung includes all major LTE bands with it, so those of us who want to modify our devices can get AT&T LTE.

I made the mistake of rooting my N900, thus tripping knox. Now I can't update the phone nor the Gear watch that comes with it (the gear can be updated through it's app but not tripping new updates unless the phone is up to date as well..).
There is virtually zero XDA support and activity for the Exynos N900.
If you're an owner of one, don't root or do anything XDAish until activity starts popping up.

yes you can update with odin it will unroot the phone

Yeah it doesn't, it has something called warranty bit that was added in the last update and basically makes it our knox version but ours is for sure a software add on and not something more complicated like the S800 knox

Im pretty sure there's an exynos forum with a few roms. A few of them are even mj7. Root is the best thing you can do to your phone. Ive owen s3 s4 and now note 3. Never used the warranty once and rootes them all. And had them very modded. With kernels effects themes etc. Everybody on this forum is like I need my warranty etc. I dont get it

Okay in that case if I use CF-Root thus voiding my warranty will I risk losing anything else. I had an S3 for 2 years and sheer stupidity resulted in a cracked screen however that was the only time I had to use my warranty so essentially warranty shouldn't concern me but I don't want to trip this Knox counter and lose key features just for root which is all I really want. I don't plan on custom firmware flashing or anything so my OTA should still work via KIES right?

Before you root make some checks. If your hardware is OK. Download from market multitouch app to see if your screen passes the 10 fingers test. It's really important. Then stress a bit your phone hardware wise and see if everything runs fine and no defects show up. If everything is OK then trip knox and be happy.

make a check on your device first for the multitouch (which some note 3 users experience this on their device). So if you need to claim warranty, you are still elligible before you trip the KNOX.
I don't know about KIES, because since my S2, S3, Note1, Note2, and till now Note3, I never use KIES to upgrade my firmware. I like to use ODIN more. And yes, though u root your device, you are still able to flash back firmware (newer version) through ODIN.

So basically if the app recognizes 10 fingers on the screen at once it's fine correct? I managed to get 10 fingers recognized easily so essentially I'm okay to root or should I be doing something else first?

Read carefully please. The multitouch has nothing to do with root. The point is that some screens have issues. And before you loose warranty by rooting you should check it. Duh!

I have bought me a new samsung s5 and I really want to flash a different rom and kernel but now I wonder if someone can tell me if the warranty is gone if I do that (if I understood it right it would trigger the knox)?,is there any way to reset the knox thing?

Look here http://omegadroid.co/wanted-knox-void-warranty-0x1/ for instance and KNOX cannot be reset atm. You can root with Towelroot without tripipng KNOX but flashing a kernel or custom recovery will set KNOX on 0x1. Yes, tripping KNOX will void warranty in some regions depending on local laws. In the EU it doesn`t unless the oem can prove that rooting was the cause of the defect.

Knox doesn't matter to most people. Samsung will, particularly in North America disavow a warranty if Knox is tripped. But most people don't deal with Samsung for warranty issues. They deal with their carrier and most carriers don't care about Knox.And stronger consumer protection legislation in the EU means that your warranty rights cannot be summarily dismissed. You signature suggests that you may be in the EU in which case it isn't likely an issue for you. Do a forum search to see how your carrier, which you neglected to name, handles warranty claims.
A forum search would have given you better answers to all of your questions. You would find threads demonstrating that Knox can be reset. But it has only been demonstrated in limited and experimental conditions so far. It's not yet clear how widely that could be applied and isn't likely to be easily accessible to you anytime soon. A custom recovery, custom kernel or some older root methods will trip Knox.
If you are unwilling to trip Knox, then use towel root which shouldn't increment Knox and Safestrap to run your ROM. It's a lot more cumbersome and limits your choices. But you pick your poison and drink it.

Towelroot uses an exploit so it won't trip your KNOX counter.
Using regular root on the GS5 trips KNOX.
But as stated above, flashing a custom recovery, kernel or ROM will trip KNOX regardless.

Only to reset the flash counter. S4 had it on Android 4.2 bootloader which didn't have KNOX, starting from the KNOX bootloader (4.3) the flash counter isn't inside anymore

The Knox flag being tripped doesn't affect sale value. People looking for a device with Knox are probably purchasing the S5 or S6 at this moment. The more important question is whether the phone is carrier unlocked or not, because a carrier unlocked S4 carries a premium over one still tied to the carrier. Case in point is my S4. I purchased it off Swappa with the Knox flag tripped. Compared to the value of other S4 devices being sold on Swappa at the time, the value wasn't hurt at all. In fact, its being unlocked made it more valuable than most of the other phones, so the seller made out well.
If you need to sell it, just sell it. The average person doesn't give a damn about Knox anyway.

My phone's hardware is of unlocked black edition but when I bought it it had yes optus firmware. Non black edition -.- any way I can find my own original firmware?

My country is Pakistan and there's no firmware for it, I bought this phone on AUS YES OPTUS OPS and signals were fine. Better than all the phones(due to hardware)... I mean how do I track it? I bought this black edition without black edition ROM? Any way I could get it back? :'(

Since you know the device was originally running Australian firmware from Optus, you would narrow down your search using those parameters, not the country you live in. That would get you the correct ROM.

In your case, since you're unlocked you can install firmware from any region. I usually don't recommend branded firmware on an unlocked device simply because most branded firmware includes bloatware you cannot use. So in your case, I would look for an unbranded Australian firmware and use that instead of the Optus firmware. As to what will happen if you flash the wrong region, very little. It does however depend on what modifications the carrier made to the firmware.

There's no black edition ROM for Australia... So it is sure that my phone was altered what now? Should I flash any black edition?

The thing to keep in mind that other than the addition of a set of exclusive wallpapers and ringtones, ROMs for the black edition and regular devices are identical. For example, my I9505 is not a black edition device, yet I can take the British black edition ROM (CSC BTU) and install it without trouble. So it is up to you if you want to do it. Like I said, you're not limited in the ROMs you can use.

Even using magisk + custom recovery? I've heard things like Netflix don't usually work with root but this way it does.
U cant have your cake and eat it too.
Knox being broken shouldn't void warranty under EU consumer laws. But you best do your due diligence and not just take my word for it.

This is not true. It depends on "how" you root. Finding a way to root without unlocking the BL and using custom boot/recovery usually does not trip Knox. Of course these methods are becoming more and more rare. For example I rooted s8/s8+ USA variants back when they launched which was using a few vulns, certain signed samsung firmware and system root and Knox was fine. They also can root USA Note 8 devices using other means without tripping Knox. I also rooted USA N9 on combo firmware without tripping knox/warranty bit.
Heck even unlocking bootloader sometimes doesnt trip Knox until you actually flash custom firmware. Typically if you use Magisk root or TWRP on an unlocked bootloader then you definitely will trip Knox. Point is that it's possible to root without tripping knox as it has been done many times over the years. Nowadays though most people just buy unlockable variants so it's really all anyone sees or knows about most the time.

Seeing as how magisk patched firmware and TWRP specifically require an unlocked BL which is exactly what trips knox your answer is no. That will 100% trip your knox flag.
As far as Netflix (and many other companies) they are always trying to be as secure as possible. Theres many who find ways to get around those types of issues. It's just a cat n mouse game sometimes i.e devs get it working then Netflix breaks it again then users find a way to get around it etc etc

What you say is true anything is “possible”
However as the OP is on the O2 network he has an Exynos chipset.
Is it currently possible to root an Exynos S10+ without tripping Knox ?
I stopped rooting about 5 years ago so don’t know of a way right now

ive never owned one.. i imagine most just unlock bl.. but from wat my sources tell me there is easy root on exynos without tripping knox.. I am not able to provide details tho as they are private methods.. they use it for business and such apparently so take it with a grain of salt lol
exynos are notoriously known to b a lot easier to root than SD variants
