Question about triangle away and Knox. - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys. I was really confident that when I will sell my S4 LTE I'd reset the counter by triangle away and flash stock ROM, but after reading http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45666586 I'm kinda worried. :/
Mine is XXUGNH6 but running CM12.1 can't I ever restore status with Chainfire's Triangle Away? :S

Only to reset the flash counter. S4 had it on Android 4.2 bootloader which didn't have KNOX, starting from the KNOX bootloader (4.3) the flash counter isn't inside anymore

Damnit!! I bought this phone on 4.2... How'd I sell this if I need to lol.

The Knox flag being tripped doesn't affect sale value. People looking for a device with Knox are probably purchasing the S5 or S6 at this moment. The more important question is whether the phone is carrier unlocked or not, because a carrier unlocked S4 carries a premium over one still tied to the carrier. Case in point is my S4. I purchased it off Swappa with the Knox flag tripped. Compared to the value of other S4 devices being sold on Swappa at the time, the value wasn't hurt at all. In fact, its being unlocked made it more valuable than most of the other phones, so the seller made out well.
If you need to sell it, just sell it. The average person doesn't give a damn about Knox anyway.

My country is Pakistan and there's no firmware for it, I bought this phone on AUS YES OPTUS OPS and signals were fine. Better than all the phones(due to hardware)... I mean how do I track it? I bought this black edition without black edition ROM? Any way I could get it back? :'(
Sent from my GT-I9505

Since you know the device was originally running Australian firmware from Optus, you would narrow down your search using those parameters, not the country you live in. That would get you the correct ROM.

Thanks. I'll get searching and if (IF) I flash wrong .tar.md5 (different region) what could happen?
Sent from my GT-I9505

In your case, since you're unlocked you can install firmware from any region. I usually don't recommend branded firmware on an unlocked device simply because most branded firmware includes bloatware you cannot use. So in your case, I would look for an unbranded Australian firmware and use that instead of the Optus firmware. As to what will happen if you flash the wrong region, very little. It does however depend on what modifications the carrier made to the firmware.

Hi,
There's no black edition ROM for Australia... So it is sure that my phone was altered what now? Should I flash any black edition?
Sent from my GT-I9505

The thing to keep in mind that other than the addition of a set of exclusive wallpapers and ringtones, ROMs for the black edition and regular devices are identical. For example, my I9505 is not a black edition device, yet I can take the British black edition ROM (CSC BTU) and install it without trouble. So it is up to you if you want to do it. Like I said, you're not limited in the ROMs you can use.

[Q] Where to Buy Note 3 Int'l LTE

Hi,
I am looking to buy Galaxy Note 3 - LTE - International Version! The one with Snap 800. I believe its N95005 :S. I am in Canada. I will require AWS HSPA+ band , that is what my carrier uses, so from my research I Can flash any modems even the one from my carrier NOTE 3, to get the AWS band.
Anyone know a good website to get it from?? Any help is appreciate it!
Yup the SM-N9005 -
http://www.handtec.co.uk I believe will ship all across the world, may have to check to be sure though

Yeah they ship world wide , thank god for FedEX!
So, why is the Black version more expensive than the white version?
Also, this must be region locked, right? How would I be able to unlock the region thing?? Can I root this without voiding the Knox?? And I can flash any roms, modems via odin, there won't be this secure check fail , correct? Sorry, I just want to confirm it.
Thank you!

In regards to region lock, you may have to email them first - they sell some with the title "open box" ( to unlock region lock maybe?) - Or they may have US/CA variants also in stock.
You may be able to root it without voiding KNOX it depends what firmware version it ships with. But if you want to flash custom ROMS then you have to trip KNOX 0x1 - no way around that. But yes you can do it if you don't mind tripping 0x1.
I guess White this time round is the popular colour of choice. Everyone I know with a Note has White except me I have the Jet Black.

No, i don't want to buy US variant, thats the whole point in buying international lol. I can buy canadian variant, but it is over priced, plus i can't flash anything.
So, um, I can flash any TW roms and modems from any region/country on the SM-N9505??
Lol, White one appears to be cheaper
You can flash what you like on the N9005, as long as you don't mind tripping KNOX

The T-Mo US variant is unlocked except for carrier (which is unlockable by code) and I bought mine for $680, cheaper than the N9005's were going for on swappa where I got mine. It's N900T. You can flash N9005 ROMs except for the kernels and a patch to fix a few other things. I'm using such a ROM now which is why it's reporting as an N9005. See what you can get cheaper in your area and go with that. Avoid N900A (AT&T) since it has locked bootloader. There's also a Canadian variant that is similar to N900T with unlocked bootloader, might be the one you've referenced.

Yeah, I pretty much realized that Sam is screwing with customers big time. Worse than Apple.
So, regardin the region lock, I can assume the website you sent me is shipping updated firmware N95005, so I can't use region away app. Do you know any asian market website that can ship N95005 to Canada?

Lol, T-mobile stock rom is worse than anything. I had S3 from them, it was a pain dealing with their crap load because didn't really want to root and stuff back then. For Note 3, I don't want to flash custom roms right of way. Gonna try it out for 2 months before voiding warranty. So, I need to get N9008W-AWS version the Canadian, or International Note 3, where I can flash AWS band modem easily without tripping Knox.
t-mobile Note 3 isn't sold here, and I am not gonna buy it online from ebay cuz i end up paying $200 for custom duty tax. If you know a website that uses UPS/FedEx type of shipping for t-mobile , i might consider it .
Right now im trying to find N95005 that is brand new and not region locked or the region lock can be removed =| .
thank you for your help!! appreciate your inputs!

Apparently they are OK from what I have read, haven't used them myself so can't personally comment.
In regards to region lock and updated firmware - we can never know what firmware/region lock (if any) is being shipped on devices until we get them - but with region lock, I'm gonna assume they won't send an EU model with EU lock on it to Canada? -

Negri have the N9005 listed - that is defo the INT model - shoot them an email to be 100% certain it is the N9500 they are selling, because we have seen it before where a site advertises a model number and it is wrong! - for your own peace of mind mainly -

Confusion regarding 4.3 Bootloaders on SG4

My S4 has the original firmware (MDL) and I have since installed a custom recovery (the loki method). I am now running GoldenEye 4.3, which is based off the Internation S4. I love it. I love what my phone can do. Anyway, I downloaded triangle away and it says the binary is official and the counter is 0. I did not see Samsung Knox Warranty 0x0 or 0x1 anywhere. Would I have this if I did the original OTA update to 4.3 from AT&T? I'm guessing its best never to upgrade and stay far away from the knox crap. So much for the Galaxy S5 then. ):
Why did Samsung ever have to implement the Knox 0x0 crap? If its so important to them voiding people's warranties, then why didn't they originally do it when the S4 launched?
As of right now, is my bootloader knox free, since I have a 4.3 rom on it? Would triangle away work if I ever needed to send it in?
Why is there a different root method or custom recovery for each firmware version on the i337?

For the record: Triangle Away is not compatible with any locked bootloader and I don't believe it resets KNOX yet anyways. I think that if you have loki exploit you can use it, but I'm not entirely sure. It's only for the flash counter anyways.
The reason root and recovery methods are different is because with each new firmware Samsung patches the old security flaws that let us have root and recovery in the first place. I don't know if that's at their discretion or at the carrier's request (the locked bootloaders are at carrier request and Samsung must update the security on them to protect their business interests).
Not every S4 gets the KNOX counter, only those with the bootloader from the 4.3 update.

Wow. What a shame. It looks like they are doing everything to stop custom roms and root. After the loki method, it got really hard. Seems like more devices would be bricked now, than they would before.
I am wondering why they are cracking down so much now. The AT&T Galaxy S2 (i777) and S3 had unlocked bootloaders and huge development communities.
+1 now many are thinking of ditching their carriers & mfr in favor of costlier, but mod friendlier alternatives truer to Android's progressive core concept.

Yeah, but its still never the same with another carrier's device. For example, I used the T-Mobile Note 3 on AT&T and the experience was not so great. Sure, I had custom recovery and root, but it had that knox warranty thing. It also struggled tremendously holding onto an LTE signal. The overall signal was poor.
Purchasing the international S4 comes with the trade off of loosing LTE. I am hoping with the S5, Samsung includes all major LTE bands with it, so those of us who want to modify our devices can get AT&T LTE.

Its probably only the T-Mobile bootanimation which is added. Should be fine to root it and flash custom roms on it if you want. Search in the T-Mobile thread for more info http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-tmobile to be sure.

I probably thought already so, but i didn't know what changed and didn't wanted to brick it from the start. And i really want to do custom so the KNOX warranty can kiss my ass. I never bricked a device by being careful and can change the hardware myself. And if i really need the warranty i buy a new phone. i switch every half year or so i never use that.

I done it, My phone originally a Sprint S7 Edge. Got it unlocked switched to Tmobile and installed the Tmobile firmware with no problem. I still got Samsung Pay just had to re-register for it. My Knox hasn't been tripped.

Hi,
I was wondering if bringing in an unlocked phone from another carrier and putting on T-Mobile firmware will disable Samsung pay or Knox. If not, where would be the place to look on how to do this, a little confusing finding the right spot.
Thank you

Knox and Samsung Pay shouldn't be affected, since you're just installing a different fully stock firmware. You should find instructions easily on how to install firmwares with Odin.
I tried to install the T-Mobile Nougat firmware on my G935U(the USA unlocked model), and i coudn't get it to work, something about the system image maybe being too big for my system partition.

Returning S5 to Stock Rom

Hi
I need to return my S5 to stock firmware so that I can return it to the people I bought it from. I'm looking for the unbranded stock firmware for the Samsung Galaxy S5 Plus SM-G901F for the UK.
On sammobile, the only UK firmware is for EE:

Does anyone know which one I should go for?

Don't think it will make much of a difference, but you might as well just grab the latest one, even though it is over a year old. It is probably what would be on the phone if you had done an OTA update. I would be more concerned if you accidentally tripped Knox along the way and the people you are returning it to care about such things. There is no way to un-do that, short of replacing the board, but it also may not matter. Good Luck.

I don't have this variant myself but, the following is the best I can provide you for options.

This is not to mean that there's no other options out there...
Good Luck!

Thanks for this but the links are dead in your first link and the second doesn't seem to link to any roms (unless I'm doing it wrong)
