I've tried doing some research but I couldn't find any solution that worked for me. I had Android 4.3 installed on my stock SPH-L720 and tried to root it without any success. When I rebooted the phone, it loaded without any issue but I noticed I couldn't make any calls or play music without the phone freezing. I decided to flash the stock ROM (L720VPUAMDC_L720SPTAMDC_L720VPUAMDC_HOME.tar.md5) using ODIN3v138, but that failed the same way the root failed.
Here's the error Odin displayed:

I tried booting the phone into recovery and noticed the message, "Recovery is not seandroid enforcing". Anyway, I even wiped the phone using the stock recovery then attempting to flash stock ROM with ODIN and get the same message. I'm not sure what else to try at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
You CANNOT go back to MDC, MDL, or MF9 once you are on MJA. You are stuck with 4.3. Download MJA tar and that will get you back up and running.

Hey all, after being on cm for a while I returned to stock using odin. After I rooted using motochopper and installed cwm. I then attempted to updated using OTA. It seemed to go well, but I got the message the the stock recovery could be flashed and I said no the fix and then said no to fix root. The phone is now stuck on bootloop and get the message below when trying to flash stock firmware(MDB or MDL) using ODIN. When I did try and boot the phone gave me a message about some file being in use. I have no idea where to go from here and any tips would be greatly appreciated.

You returned to stock, put a custom recovery on and then you decided to take the mf3 firmware update? Your recovery is now borked. Check out the best buy fix.

Because MDC isn't close to the latest .tar for this phone. You have either MK2 or NAE on your phone and you cannot go back to a previous build. Odin one of those and you'll be fine.

Correct. All of this is getting really old and people need to search more and read. Plus download the latest tar files.

Hey, guys. I left my G2 to go back to my GS4, and I'm having a bit of trouble. I'm trying to get back to an earlier firmware to gain root and flash custom recovery. Currently on NB1 firmware. TowelRoot does not work.
Anyway, I downloaded the stock ATT Firmware for my phone. UCUAMDL. When I go to Odin, Auto reboot and F reset time is checked. Re-Partition is not checked. Odin sees my phone. I hit PDA or AP and load my firmware file and hit start. Everytime, it fails after Nand write start.

Your phone has a locked boot loader which prevents a full downgrade. If you are on stock NB1, you can adb sideload the NC1 OTA update file. The all things AT&T should have the link.

If I sideload NC1, will I be able to install custom recovery and flash custom ROMs? Or will that require the MK2 downgrade to flash custom recovery after root?

You will be able to root using towelroot and install touchwiz based custom roms. There is a version of the google play edition that works (there are some known issues though).
The stock recovery cannot be replaced. We have a special recovery (this recovery is available during normal boot itself) called safestrap that can be used to flash the custom roms.

Oh, wow. What happened? I guess Samsung stuck it to us one final hard time. Made things so much harder. Thanks for the clarification.
Unfortunately you cant install Safestrap Recovery while on NC1. At least I haven't been able to at all. Really f'n hating this crappy updated phone I got from ATT as a replacement for my broken old on with the good bootloader.
You should be able to, once you set selinux to permissive mode. Towelroot was also updated to do the same.

If you are on NB1 you can go back to MK2 to root or update to NC1 to use TowelRoot .
If you want to downgrade to MK2 and root please follow the steps in post 1, 2, 3 at here.
.
Ok so im not sure this is where to post this but I'll give it a try. I had a rooted galaxy s4 running NC1 update. I wanted to unroot it and set it back to stock so i can give it to a family member. I followed a guide that told me to flash the NB1 firmware and update to NC1, so i put the phone in download mode and opened ODIN and selected the NB1 tar file, right after i started it there was some text going on on the left of the screen, and after it said something like "boot.img" (I'm not sure what it exactly said but it started with boot.something) it gave an error and odin said it failed. I tried starting the phone up and it said that the firmware update was interrupted and to plug it into kies. I tried following the emergeny firmware update and it wouldn't go through. On the top left of the screen on my S4 it says:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-I337
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
KNOX KERNEL LOCK: 0x0
KNOX WARRENTY VOID: 0x0
CSB-CONFIG-LSB: 0x30
WRITE PROTECTION: Enabled
eMMC BURST MODE: enabled
If anyone can help I would be eternally gratefull, I'm not very android savy yet and i have absolutly no idea on how to fix this.

Put the phone in download mode and re-attempt the NB1 flash through Odin. As long as the download mode exists, the phone can be recovered.

I have been searching threads for 6 hours, but haven't found anything conclusive.
I rooted my phone a while back, but today I decided to install a new custom ROM. I backed up the ROM to my external SD and installed the new one through safestrap. However, when I tried to reboot, I just got stuck on a screen that says samsung and has an open lock.
I am able to get into download mode, but not into recovery. After I boot into download mode, it says write protection:enabled (not sure that is normal, but I thought I would mention it). I open up Odin and the drivers seem to load fine. I have tried a a few versions of ODIN and two different Stock ROMs, but it fails every time. On my phone, after it fails, I get a message that says SW Rev. Check Fail: fused 2, binary: 1.
In ODIN, I get the following:

Have you tried another USB cable?.
I have actually. The original cable and just another one I had. Also, tried it on 3 computers.

The problem is you're trying to flash mdl firmware and you're not on that version. It looks like you're on mf3. There is no Odin flashable mf3 firmware so I'd suggest you flash the nb1 tar file. See the general forum for the file. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50912149
