Why no ROM for S3 i747 AT&T - d2att - Omni Q&A

It looks like a lot of devices are already being supported, but I am surprised to see no support for the North American i747 variants of the S3. I can't find any discussions about it either, so I don't know what the reason is.
Does anyone have any insights?

The usual answer - no maintainer.
Some guys were working on d2 variants but I'm not sure where that went.

yea i was more so trying to see how much work is involved in the process to see if i could look into doing it

With a non-Nexus or non-4.4 device, you basically have to code the drivers and everything by hand, if I understand my reading correctly, as well as any device-specific adjustments that must be made.

@CNexus has already built OmniRom for D2Spr. He has contributed heavily on the d2 Kernel for Omni Rom
He can be helping hand, if he agrees to help

Think you can reach out to @jakew02. Jake has been instrumental in getting Omni nightly builds for Galaxy S4 devices. He started building unofficial even when Omni was not support.
I am confident he can help us bringing the beloved Omni to our d2 devices - AT&T Galaxy S3
Jake can you please guide the us for building Omni for d2 devices? I have been after your life for building something for d2att.:silly:
@berryman13 and @Keland44 are trying to build for d2att device but with no success. Your help will be highly appreciated:good:

[NEW BOUNTIES] Unlocked ATT Atrix project ideas

Most of us with ATT phones pretty thrilled by the recent turn of events. But the journey is just beginning, and there is a lot of work ahead. As much as I'm sure we all want to throw a few bucks to the ATT/Moto employee who leaked, it's probably better for their job security that we can't
It's my opinion that the amount of work that's been done so far pales compared to what's ahead. Many exciting things are possible, but most will take days, weeks or months of work. A few useful projects I can think of include:
Porting AOSP trees (CM7?) for Atrix
Debug kernels with USB or 3.5mm serial uart
Newer (.36? .38?) kernels with various tweaks
Overclock kernels or overclock modules that work safely
A rebased webtop: Ubuntu 10.10 or 11.04, or ... Gentoo?
An AOSP-based ROM that leaves all webtop functionality intact.
(I'm saving my donation money for the last one, +extra$ if the front camera is v4l accessible from webtop. PM Sogarth or myself, if interested in webtop-related dev)
Those are just a few off the top of my head... sky's the limit! Lots of nifty hacks with HDMI/Webtop/Lapdock are possible... Pick your pet project, start a thread, collect names and guaranteed minimum donations, keep a google spreadsheet, do what it takes. Or if you're a dev, float your ideas...
I'd really like to encourage collective development. In many cases projects are solo efforts, but they don't have to be. I don't do it for the money and collaboration is more fun for me than competition. It makes me sad when code is not public and other people can't extend or port a work. But competition for bounties can discourage this openness, and I think that's a pity. I feel best dev work comes from a love of creativity, pushing limits by making useful things that were never possible before ...not for money or celebrity.
So I think, if a project was a cooperative work, perhaps developers could agree and shoot a mail to the 'bounty' coordinator indicating who is doing what work, so that if it succeeds, such bounties could be shared between a team.
And last but not least... Unless a dev needs custom hardware or a phone...
I encourage you to ONLY donate once a project is complete!!
I've got to take 3 weeks off to take care of personal things, but am hopeful to see what the state of AT&T Atrix is like on XDA when I get back =)
PS. Let me clarify: I am not starting any bounties! Please do not PM with how much you would pay for x.y.z. Please do PM if you want to dig deep into webtop internals. As I am interested in working on Atrix still, there could be a conflict of interest if I organized anything. Please, if you believe in a project, find like-minded people and organize a bounty thread yourselves!
I think this is a great idea!

+1 for MIUI
actually the MIUI team states that they will support most of the devices CM support, if CM doesnt support a device the MIUI team wouldnt even touch that with a pole
it might be a better idea donating a few machines + a few bucks directly to CM and get the ball rolling there instead of "porting"
I think we need a bounty for someone who can unlock the bootloader for international versions

The unsung hero is the unknown source who gave us a signed unlockable BL. Unless you can find a leak from a carrier or Moto connection, who has similarly signed unlockable BL for international versions, good luck. As far as I know no one has come close to unlocking the Atrix boot signature chain. It may be possible, but it probably isn't, and it hardly seems like anyone is trying. I'd really like to clarify we didn't do anything besides notice this was possible, and then package things up after we got a lucky leak. It was probably coming anyway, but someone out there wanted to help us early =)
That said, a bounty for kexec working on international Atrix is not a bad idea.
Would be great if everything will work fine expecially Ubuntu.
I never needed it but I think now it is about time!

That's because MIUI is a rip of CM7 with crappy "customizations."
They don't touch non-CM7 phones because they can't; they don't have the skill to build the full ROM themselves.

Not sure if I know what I am doing, but when the poop hits the propeller, I have never had to build source that wasn't already at least somewhat modified for my device.
I got all the proprietary stuff, the countless extra common additions, and now it seems I have to go find all the hardware build parts missing because all we got was a nexus layout and dashed hopes of much more.
It may or may not be realistic to just merge in the missing parts, but at least it is a good start. Everything is configured to work, it just wants some stuff I am still downloading.

I will post every detail I can, but I will admit a lot of it is currently mixed in with DHD and Dinc, as we have been working as one team instead of separate devices. I will make a point to link up what has been going on soon. That was overlooked on my part.
The builds in the first post are functional, but the version being built from source should not and will not be a [email protected]$$ rip -off of another device. That is costing time...

He responded to make a valid point because a lot of the posts that have been removed are the direct result of not reading the first post. There have been MANY posts throughout the entire site pushing for releases only days after the initial release of a partial source. I think it is best you keep in mind, that nothing he said is directly rude unless you choose to read it that way.

Cm 13 and M based ROM Discussion

I would like to just set up a thread for any word on CM13 and or any work on M based ROMs for the TMO N4. I did not see one so if there is I apologize and will take it down.
Cm13 is available unofficially for the international verison which I did flash and had bad things happen. I have heard no talk of when we are to expect it for TMO. So hopefully we can remain updated by more informed members of the XDA community.
Im dying to get a feel for it and heard the Cyanogen Team put some nice work into this as they always do.

Unofficially, there is no talk about when it will be released is because it doesn't work on our device yet. There are developers working on it as we speak, but they don't like being asked an ETA. It'll be ready when it's ready. On the flip side, simply discussing what features we'd like to see in Android M could be a nice thread to have. Devs could look here for that if they do choose and see what cherry picks people want.

But I did just see a M system dump as well as a few posts of a member on the international side who is currently working on a TMO version. I believe he has developed some working blobs but has a bit to go.
As for features, i really dont know why we dont have multi window support for CM yet. Ive asked but never got a real answer as to why they always leave it out. For the TMO version id love to see working s-pen. But i hear they did find a way to get wifi calling to work so thats great news if true.

I'm aware you aren't, but if it's not mentioned than all the sudden the thread will get spammed with it.
As far as multi-window? CM/Slim 12.1 has something of the sort. But true multi-window is a TW only feature add it is proprietary drivers and tough to get source code on.
As long as I have my battery bar, sliding on status bar for brightness, and CM theme support, I'll be a happy little clam. The rest is just gravy. Would be awesome to have fingerprint support on an AOSP based ROM.

I did see that data is now a function on the INT version of CM13. I did read that finger print is actually proposed to make it. Unsure on the legitness of that one. Im super excited to see progress now. Im just surprised that with M sources released that we see no ROMs built. I have actually attempted sitting down and doing so building. Man is it time consuming. I just took frames from a open project and did some bsic things and was frustrated. Thanks to all the people who take their time to build these things. :good:

Could be too early to tell. I would imagine devs don't want to be bothered with questions on ETA when things don't work. There's no real way of telling exactly when you make a breakthrough in coding.

Seems we may have a breakthrough. Fingers crossed.
Also, can someone withone with understanding of the process of building roms from a source like Marshmallow tell me something? If there is a system dump, say from Nexus, for M how come it is so hard to turn that into a runnable version for samsung? I know the systems are totally different and we have the TW systems, but as a AOSP source I always believed that turning that around from the code was the reason the codes were released. I started to see that was very wrong back when L hit and the massive bs these devs went thru with that. So is there a easy way to explain the process and why it is so difficult to do for us?

I'm not a coder, but I have an understanding of how this works a little. The biggest reason is hardware differences and getting the coding right to match the software (drivers) to the hardware. With AOSP, the devs have to write coding from scratch for a 'port' from a system dump from another phone. Especially one that's a different brand entirely.
That is about the best I can think to explain it. If I am totally off bass there, a dev could come in and snack me around for spreading misinformation. [emoji19]

I would love it if someone would take this over! I don't know Jack about coding but have been very happy with the kernel. Maybe one of the kernel devs could build it as a side project to their own or at least go through the code and give some feedback as to the viability of adopting it...

I really wish I could keep the kernel alive. I put 4 years into XDA with various projects. Being burnt out doesnt even begin to describe how I feel. I promise if I change my mind down the road Ill let everyone know

Edited because I didn't fully read the main post.

I just added cpuquiet to my source. I am going to test it and just post source here for anyone who wants it. I dont need one person to carry on the kernel, everyone can have access and it will go on that way. Have fun.

Not a problem. Didnt want to be an ass. I still add things every now and then. So everyone is welcome to check back now and then. I just felt that this wasnt just my work, its the work of many. Many should be able to enjoy it.

Thank you for your work. You were one of the most involved, and concerned devs I've encountered in what I call the "neo-XDA" era. I'm sad to hear about this, but am glad you are putting yourself first. Enjoy your time away.

Yeah that was Yoinx. Hes a great guy, I actually didnt know that some phones had a lower bin. This was my first kernel. You said neo-era. I thought you were talking about neo the developer who is now a mod. He actually tought me about android. Neo has been an amazing friend for almost 4 years. I stand by Yoinx. Great guy and highly intelligent. He was the one who taught me about kernels.
I will be updated the kernel soon. This in no way means I want to do it for the masses. Just stuff I'm doing for myself but you have my source and you can compile it yourself.

Sad to hear that you're burned out... But Glad that you're embracing what open source is about.

My fork's already supporting it app-side, so that's done. I managed to knock out getting that uploaded during a port call.
