Restore phone without removing memory card? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Can I factory restore my phone (through the settings option) without removing the memory card that's in it? I've got a case that's a pain to take on and off. If I factory restore it with the card still installed, will it wipe everything on the card? Any/all help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

It shouldn't do anything to the external SD card, but to be on the safe side (there is always the chance something strange could happen) make a complete backup of your SD card on your PC or laptop or where ever, It might take a little while, but it will give you a backup in case something happens and you can do it without taking the case off of your phone. Plus, you never know when you might need to get something from the backup you make. Good luck.

yes.....

Thanks for the quick replies. I was only worried that, when restored, the phone wouldn't read the memory card until it was ejected and then re-inserted. I do have a back-up of the card on an external hard-drive as a precaution. Thanks again!

Need help for my SD card
I have tried to recover it using Get Data Recover My Files. I could see my "lost data", but they were truncated. I tried another software (SalvageRecovery) and I thought it could recover my data better than the other. Nevertheless, I didn't have its crack or enough money to buy it.

How did my sd card become corrupted??

Today i was messing around and i removed the sd card from my phone. after i put it back in and started the phone it said my sd card was corrupted.
im just wondering how this is possible. in order to remove the sd card i had to take the battery out first, obviously. so the phone couldnt have been reading from or writing to the sd card when it was removed, because the phone was off with no battery in it. wtf, how is this possible? i seem to remember removing the sd card in such a manner in the past without this problem. whats going on here?
not only that but when i try to format it from the phone nothing happens.
any help or insight would be very much appreciated.

[Q] Resetting phone to factory conditions...

...does it restore the provided SD card to the factory settings (i.e. all contents as shipped from factory)?
What happens if I format the SD then do a factory reset - is the SD repopulated with the original contents?
Thanks,
Rodolphe
No, it's not, unfortunately. S'why I made a backup of the original SD contents.
Yeah it's a good idea to backup your SD card to your PC. e.g. for your maps, but for anything else you might want to keep too.

[Q] Apps wont install without sd card being removed

I'm usually good about searching the forums and finding fixes for all my problems (and I've had many) but I can't find an answer to my current problem.
I am not able to install apps unless I remove my sd card. Whatever problem I have with my sd card might also be why my titanium won't restore anything. I've tried clearing market data/cache, using a cache cleaner app to clean my sd card cache, I still can't figure out why I can't install apps. This is universal across roms (cleared data each time)
Are there any fixes I've missed? I'm gonna assume its an sd card issue....
Help!
i have seen that happen on a couple custom roms, but you can always just unmount the sd card then remount it after you do the install, then you could move the app to the sd card
I've tried to unmount through the settings and I get a force close everytime. I've tried terminal as well using umount /sdcard and it says "failed." I've also gone back to an old rom I was using and I get the same problem. The sd card thing is a workaround, but is there a solution? My last resort would be to reformat my sd card.....
Ill reformat today when I get home from work. Ill report back later :/
Either your card needs a reformat, or your card is going bad. The only other things that could cause these kinds of problems is if say, the SD slot in your phone was going bad, or some other circuitry connected to it, in which case your sole solution would be to get a replacement phone.
I was getting that then I did a backup of my contacts and did a factory reset then reloaded all my app from the market. Now all is good

Thanks! I havent had a chance to get to a pc. Im hoping a reformat will do the trick.
I figured it out! I was about to reformat my sd card and I remembered reading somewhere that the .android_secure folder causing market problems..... So I tried deleting the folder and my apps started installing again! Not sure why this would be but it worked!
SD card loose
I had the same problem and I noticed that the SD card had backed out of the slot a little. I pushed it back in and everything works fine now. I wish I had seen that before the hard reset.

SD stopped working after power down.

After turning off my phone today and then back on it says the sd card is damaged and needs formatting. I just got this card last month. Has anyone else had this? I took the back off and put it back on so it's not the switch.
Even my pc says it needs formatting. I moved everything from to the SD with titanium. Does anyone know if that will be a problem if I format?

Your back-ups will all be gone, as will saves from emu's etc. All content that was on the sd card will be gone. If a format fixes the sd-card you can start backing things up again. apps that installed to the sd would probably have to be reïnstalled. If you format with clockworkmod you can create a sd-ext partition besides the normal partition. I believe costum roms like cm7 can use this to make apps transferred to sd run quicker.
