Struggling to unroot my galaxy s4 AT&T - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I rooted my galaxy s4 with Kingo but now I need to unroot it. Kingo isn't giving me an option to unroot either. Any suggestions?

Have you tried the unroot option in the suoeruser app?

I'm also enquiring about this. I found an older thread while googling unroot, the thread discussed unrooting MF3 with the SU app...after 5 or so successful unroots the op was going to post an official "how to". Does anyone know if the how to got created? I couldn't find it.

I also am mf3 and rooted with kingo. I was able to unroot via the unroot option in the Super su app.

I read about that method. Can you tell me/us the steps you did? I read that after you hit unroot within su you get placed in a boot loop. Battery pull, enter download mode than reboot. I also read about deleting files...

i did see that option in superuser but will it delete all traces of the root? my co-worker said that some unroot methods still leave the "root binary" which may still be visible to ATT. I need to exchange this phone which i why i want to make sure all traces of the root are gone.

Not sure bud I've never used it cause I've never needed to.maybe unroot with it and if you still have your stock recovery do a factory reset after the unroot

It was mentioned to me in a separate thread to use the MF3 .tar file with Odin...they said this will remove all root etc.

found this thread hope it helps MF3 tar. file [url]https://mega.co.nz/#!WEEzSA7Z!aB46
I had another thread for this, but I figured it would be good to repost it since I didn't know what I had stumbled upon at first.
For all of those who have soft bricked their phones, I present to you to the MF3 TAR files to flash it back to stock via ODIN.
And for those that aren't sure as to where to put the files when flashing via ODIN, while it should be obvious, I have attached a picture that @xrandallx posted to help those that need it.

Recent OTA SM-N900V and Root De La Vega

I know it's scattered around throughout the forum but I would just like a clear response. If I am running stock on the Verizon variant Note 3 with root achieved by using Root De La Vega, can I take the recent OTA being pushed to my device without losing root? I have read several different suggestions what works and what doesn't?
Is survival mode / root off in super user / update / root on / survival mode off, the way to go?

I am in the exact same boat as you! I want to update as well, and I need to know if this will work and if it will trigger KNOX. As of what I know, it should work fine, but I am also not 100% sure.
I'm sure there are many others out there as well. Those of you that we're successful in updating please reply with the process you used.
Either an update fix or some way to remove the OTA notification without tripping knox.
Thank you

Must use wanam to set custom status back to official. Took me a few reboots to get it to stick.
Buy SU Pro, enable it in SU. Enable survival mode and disable SU.
Reboot.
If u froze the OTA apks unfreeze(I unfroze all the bloat just to be safe)
Reboot.
Go thru the OTA setup. Took about 3 to 4 minutes for me. After it reboots open SU disable survival mode and enable SU again and u should still be rooted.
But check the link out I posted above

Guys what is this OTA update for exactly?? I'm also on N900V and I'm rooted. I'm wondering if it's worth the trouble to update and risk losing root.
Also there seems to be conflicting info... Some of you are saying you simply updated and kept root, while others are explaining how they had to go though this long drawn out process to keep root. Which is it?
bricked
soft bricked.... i can still get to the Odin download but when i tried the de la vega root method i got a fail and now cant get past booting to odin download or odin firmware update failure
tried to boot to recovery but it just boots to odin
Any help would be great

Root for Galaxy S4 AT&T 4.3
Hello there,
So, today I managed to get my phone from the leaked MJ6 to MJ9 and managed to root it. This is how I did it.
1) Download V-Root (The one click root solution) from my attachment . THIS WORKS 100% FOR 4.3 MJ9!
2) On your device, go to Applications - Settings - More - About device.
3) What you need to do is here is TAP Baseband Version 5 times and this will enable Developer Options on your phone.
4) Now go back to More and click on Developer Options.
5) Click on "Enable USB Debugging"
Once you are done with the above steps,
6) Connect your device to the PC make sure it's powered ON and not on the lockscreen.
7) Open V-Root as administrator.
8) Click the little check box and click on Root.
9) This will do it's job and make the device restart.
10) Once the device restarts you have SuperSU installed AND THE PHONE IS ROOTED!
You'r Welcome

MJ6 was the leaked version as you know whereas MJ9 was the final official version released this Wednesday.
I can personally find a bit improvement in MJ9 also I think it solves the battery leakage problem of MJ6. It's working awesome so far.

I haven't updated nor tried to root the OTA but I wanted to comment on you comment. I bought the "pro" version a couple years ago and love it. I have used the root survival when I had a Moto RAZR HD Maxx and went from ICS to Jelly Bean. And it worked. Also a cool feature with PRO is that if the ROM came with Supersu built in, as most do , it will ask to uninstall or not the built in supersu and make the pro default.
I recommend it. Plus it helps fund the developer.

@DevilDog512 I stand corrected. What did you have to do to get that working?
Safestrap 3.70 in the android development section. Have only flashed this rom so far but have 0 issues. There's a kernelmodules.zip in that thread too that you flash just like you've been doing on 3.65. Can't adjust the system partition size but I don't use more than rom slot 1 anyway so no big deal to me. I'm sure it'll be fixed when it becomes official. Maybe today or tomorrow, but it's damn close to being ready.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate it very much! But I have one more question. (I know this is sort of a noob question and I apologize in advanced) How does one flash a kernel? I have never needed to do it before. Do you use Odin?

Read up on the forums or you'll be using Odin all right. I would not flash any 4.3 roms if you don't know what you're doing. Use Xposed with wanam till safe strap can be perfected.

I just used Odin today. I'm on mk2 but I installed safestrap 3.70 and had darthstalker but decided I didn't really like it much.. Installed the modules and went back to stock ROM but it felt like my 4g download speeds were slow less than 1mb. So I odin the mf3 recovery files than side loaded back to mk2 because I tried factory resetting and 4g wasn't working that good.

I used the update.zip in Stock recovery to go from mf3 to mk2. Not sure how that'll work out if i screw something up. I have the mf3 stock tar files and hash has said he has mk2 tars. I figure there's enough out there to get me back up. I tried flashing every ge rom i could find to no avail. Apparently it's pretty hit or miss right now. I read that they may have found a way to flash some custom kernels on mf3. The same day i upgrade. Hopefully they can get that sorted out and we can pretend like we own our $500 phones.

rooted mk2 on saferoot and need help

Hey guys hopefully you can help. I recently rooted my s4 (att) and didn't like some of the features and tried unrooting it. (I have MK2). It took me a while before I realized from what I read I couldn't go back to earlier versions and update to 100% bone stock like out of the box. Problem I'm having is I think I got rid of root but I'm trying to fix the device status from custom back to official and I have no clue what to do I'm a little ocd and don't like the custom logo on bootup. I'd appreciate any help and have been stressed out and frustrated all day if its possible I'll do whatever it takes to fix it
thanks in advance

I've been trying to do this for quite some time, it doesn't look like there is any was to do it on MK2. Once you have the custom splash screen your stuck with it, short or rooting and installing WanamXposed, which does not good if your looking to unroot and return to full stock. The reason for this is Samsung has not released/leaked the Odin files for MK2, as far as I understand.
What features of root don't you like? You get to change anything about the phone and even get to delete system apps?

Well I couldn't remember if it did it before but on certain websites when the site loads I get this
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"

No.
Flash a custom recovery with ODIN then flash the SuperSU zip or a rooted ROM in recovery.

If it doesn't work there ate other methods that are just as easy, especially if you already have Odin and the drivers installed.
