Recent OTA SM-N900V and Root De La Vega - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know it's scattered around throughout the forum but I would just like a clear response. If I am running stock on the Verizon variant Note 3 with root achieved by using Root De La Vega, can I take the recent OTA being pushed to my device without losing root? I have read several different suggestions what works and what doesn't?
Is survival mode / root off in super user / update / root on / survival mode off, the way to go?

I am in the exact same boat as you! I want to update as well, and I need to know if this will work and if it will trigger KNOX. As of what I know, it should work fine, but I am also not 100% sure.

I'm sure there are many others out there as well. Those of you that we're successful in updating please reply with the process you used.
Either an update fix or some way to remove the OTA notification without tripping knox.
Thank you

If you search just a little you will see that :
Knox free and root de la Vega => no Ota, no stock firmware
Download the stock rom you want, follow the process root de la Vega and apply the tar created with odin

Must use wanam to set custom status back to official. Took me a few reboots to get it to stick.
Buy SU Pro, enable it in SU. Enable survival mode and disable SU.
Reboot.
If u froze the OTA apks unfreeze(I unfroze all the bloat just to be safe)
Reboot.
Go thru the OTA setup. Took about 3 to 4 minutes for me. After it reboots open SU disable survival mode and enable SU again and u should still be rooted.
But check the link out I posted above

Can not get wanam to show "offical" staus. I've tried rebooting several times, and gone back and forth from custom to official. What am I missing or do I just need to keep rebooting?
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk

I guess you kind of have play with it. I didn't have any issues. In the link I posted some people had issues too getting the official to stick, they might of figured a fix for it. I would just go over it again to see if you see anything that could help. I'm not that advanced to help resolve your question myself.

Thanks for the help. I finally got it to work. I installed the app, but failed to download the framework.
Also took the OTA and I still have root!
THANKS

Guys what is this OTA update for exactly?? I'm also on N900V and I'm rooted. I'm wondering if it's worth the trouble to update and risk losing root.
Also there seems to be conflicting info... Some of you are saying you simply updated and kept root, while others are explaining how they had to go though this long drawn out process to keep root. Which is it?

bricked
soft bricked.... i can still get to the Odin download but when i tried the de la vega root method i got a fail and now cant get past booting to odin download or odin firmware update failure
tried to boot to recovery but it just boots to odin
Any help would be great
thanks

Root for Galaxy S4 AT&T 4.3
Hello there,
So, today I managed to get my phone from the leaked MJ6 to MJ9 and managed to root it. This is how I did it.
1) Download V-Root (The one click root solution) from my attachment . THIS WORKS 100% FOR 4.3 MJ9!
2) On your device, go to Applications - Settings - More - About device.
3) What you need to do is here is TAP Baseband Version 5 times and this will enable Developer Options on your phone.
4) Now go back to More and click on Developer Options.
5) Click on "Enable USB Debugging"
Once you are done with the above steps,
6) Connect your device to the PC make sure it's powered ON and not on the lockscreen.
7) Open V-Root as administrator.
8) Click the little check box and click on Root.
9) This will do it's job and make the device restart.
10) Once the device restarts you have SuperSU installed AND THE PHONE IS ROOTED!
You'r Welcome

MJ6 was the leaked version as you know whereas MJ9 was the final official version released this Wednesday.
I can personally find a bit improvement in MJ9 also I think it solves the battery leakage problem of MJ6. It's working awesome so far.

I haven't updated nor tried to root the OTA but I wanted to comment on you comment. I bought the "pro" version a couple years ago and love it. I have used the root survival when I had a Moto RAZR HD Maxx and went from ICS to Jelly Bean. And it worked. Also a cool feature with PRO is that if the ROM came with Supersu built in, as most do , it will ask to uninstall or not the built in supersu and make the pro default.
I recommend it. Plus it helps fund the developer.

This just confirms that we WONT be getting an update any time soon to 4.4.
Both Samsung and ATT have some sort of BS going on. Probably something with the additional bloatware not working with 4.4 and is the reason why they have not released 4.4 to the public.
This type of BS may push me over the edge with both Samsung and ATT.
Samsung needs to pull an Apple and not allow any carriers to add junk to their phones, thats one thing I respect about Apple.

Just made sure the phone had USB Debugging on and put it in MTP mode when plugged into USB. Other than that I just let Kingo do its thing. It did reboot one time during the root process but was re-detected by Kingo after restarting and the process continued. Also got the warning about mtkCamera being potentially unsafe during part of the process but told it to goahead anyway. Using Kingo 1.2.0

I was getting a ton of reboots (basically everytime I turned the screen on) after I rooted. I just took this update last night and now I haven't had a reboot and everything is working great. At least as stable as the ND3 version or probably more so.
I get Ann occasional reboot now, on nd3. I am rooted but still have a 0 Knox counter so I am staying right where I'm at. Seems the only reason for the update is to close the exploit. No thanks.

Cool. Thanks for the info.
I'm getting the update notification now as well (in US). Quick question though - I rooted via towelroot, do I need to do/undo/redo anything to retain root? I keep cancelling the update for now as I don't want to muck anything up.

Well, I don't know. I haven't seen any report yet on whether TowelRoot even still works on NG1. It probably does, but until someone uses it to successfully root an NG1 device, we won't know for sure.
If I were you, I'd probably install Voodoo OTA RootKeeper and run that before accepting the OTA. Then, if you do lose root, you could try just re-rooting with TowelRoot and post back here to let us know if that works. If it doesn't, then you could try to use RootKeeper to restore root.
But, if you are the first one to try it, there will always be the risk that you will lose root and not be able to get it back...

Towelroot does not work after updating to NG1, but CF Auto Root does.
I got NG1 today too (was on ND3 previously, unrooted)
I know the update notification talked about Kids Mode but i don't know where that's enabled, because nothing new in Settings menu.
So basically, it looks exactly like ND3 to me. which is fine, because ND3 was fine for me.
Just picked up a Tab Pro 8.4 from the BestBuy sale, first thing I noticed was that an update is available. I want a root method that does not trip Knox so I did not install the update yet, waiting to hear if TowelRoot will work but I have a feeling it will not.
Looked on there website and they are clear that this will work on kernel versions prior to June 2014 and they haven't updated that date yet.

My tab on the latest version constantly reboots at random. It's not an actual manual reboot because it cycles through without that startup music and it's slightly faster. Feels more like a restart of the android system files. Or something.
Anyone have a workaround?

Your phone has been rooted, so you cannot update it the normal way. Download the update from Sammobile when it's available, and use Mobile ODIN Pro to install it. Also check the options off to keep root. You could also use PC ODIN, but will lose Root.
Another option is wait till someone modifies the update so you will not loose root, and then flash it with the PC version.

Mobile Odin Pro will not update your bootloader to match the new ROM software and Radio/Modem update. It's not advised to update using MOP. Download the full NJ7 stock ROM http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/37101/N910TUVU1ANJ7_N910TTMB1ANJ7_TMB.zip/ and use Odin on the PC to flash it.
I will just unroot it when I get home and then do the update and root it back, hopefully it's a fix to the Internet issues and what other issues that others are having

Anyone know if this update will screw us on CF Autoroot? I don't want to take the update if it's going to keep me from rooting. Can anyone confirm???
Thanks in advance.

I'm not an expert but I was able to apply the update as follows:
in superSU, unroot your phone.
then i just checked if I was fully unrooted, via trying to use a root app or download rootchecker via google play.
then when I knew i was unrooted, I downloaded KEIS3 and installed the update via KEIS.
afterwards, KEIS froze but my phone worked and it was updated to the latest firmware.
then i reapplied root.
hope this helps.

That is good news, but I need to know if they lock down the bootloader or something like that. They did this with the S4. So I am not going to update till I hear a success story, or a tragedy.

I will just unroot it when I get home and then do the update and root it back, hopefully it's a fix to the Internet issues and what other issues that others are having

Is this issue before or after the update?? I have not updated my device yet (it is available though), but still checking to see what improvements/issues come with the update... I have not had any MMS issues with my device thus far tho, Pre-Update - of any kind (no root yet either)

So that didn't work.. went into a boot loop when I tried removing root. Re-rooting was the only way to get the boot loop to stop.
What sucks, was I literally just rooted the phone at 2am.. I wish I had waited.

Verizon Note 4 Has One Click Root Method! Video Proof!

Use this at your own risk. This is a Chinese app which will root your phone, but may also send your data to China! On the surface it doesn't seem malicious, but use caution.
Grab the app here

From what i read in other threads I'm led to believe this is a temporary root, and will disappear upon reboot. It also installs kinguser, not superuser, and superuser cant be installed to replace it.
Also, this was from the Dev thread directly

I think this guy should have noted in this video it only works on 4.4.4 kit Kat and that when you reboot you will lose root sometimes you don't even have to manually reboot it will just shut down randomly and root is gone ....and for Lollipop it only gets to 51% and auto shuts down I would just wait for the devs to just put something awesome together I tried it yesterday and it was a headache trying to not reboot but when it randomly shut down on its own several times I was done with it ...jmo!!

Root last after reboot? can you reboot, run the free Root Checker by Joey Krim app from the play store, screenshot, andshow that you're still rooted?
Also i should ask, retail or DevEd? this works on DevEd fine (I think) from what Ive read elsewhere.

Well... It works. The chinese throws me off. However, I can run Greenify. So I'm happy.
Uh,.. I think you are 3 days late to the party.
I would suggest that you wait for a perm prerooted factory image to drop.
unless like the idea of the Chinese stealing all your data and losing root on every reboot.

no. nothing permanent about kingroot. every reboot it is gone.
tried on Verizon Note4 and when I opened the app, it just show me the envelope and didn't give me the lock like in the video. So it's not working for me.
I tried this kingroot last night, say for like 5/10 min til I got tired of waiting and then I Uninstalled the shop and nothing had occurred. But I have no bank or sensitive info on device, nothing financial or even remotely sensitive info... so was worth it to try.
But no go and no root. And I wad ready as when I upgraded to lollipop and set up phone, play store was reinstalling apps from my note 3, that I switch back and forth between, installed supersu and titanium (though I've no root on 4 obviously! ) I was ready to jump into titanium and start Uninstaller Bloat if
I got proof of root thru supersu granting it, or whatever the kingroot Su access is. .. either way I wad ready though. ...
No go. .. so I leave it at that till someone comes up with a surefire way too do this.
Reading up on multisystem now... looks interesting! Since no more safestrap..... multisystem looks the way next forward, though a tad bit complicated. It'll work eventually!

I would expect about ten times more traffic on this in the thread, but seems so suspect that most appear not to be biting. Me included, but not worth it anyway IMO due to just a temporary root.

Yeah, I thought people would get crazy, but I mean , temporary root is not so bad right? For example it would work to get rid of the s finder and quick connect persistent icons on the notification bar , right?
