I've modified URDLV need permission to post. - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi @designgears,
I've modified your script a little and given it a third option, to also include a couple of extra files that are needed in the newer firmwares.
Do you object to me making it available to the community now that you've closed your original thread?
Of course all credits remain with you, it just helps those who need it as I've been hit with PMs about how to get the newer versions working.
I've had to notify you in this way (creating a thread) as it says you do not receive private messages any more.
Regards,
RavenY2K3

Maybe he doesn't frequent the note 3 thread anymore.
Track his latest posts and reply there

Last post he did was in a Nexus 5 thread, I've been told by mods I cannot post bugger all unless I get his go ahead, even if I rewrite it from scratch as it's still his method if you know what I mean.
So I have added something extra, to what was already a great tool to help people, but cannot release a thing.

I mean, maybe you can post a couple requests in his Nexus 5 thread just to make sure he's seeing your messages.
Atleast we'll know whether he's intentionally ignoring or not.

Just rewrite it, rebrand it. You can't copyright code.

do you know how many have been banned for stuff like that?
I also see the OP has thanked you, I had come in here to give the go ahead, but you guys are ready to kang things and call it good.
So, for now, no, the license stands as is.

I think you are the complete opposite of what XDA stands for in the name of Android development. No sharing. No help. No assistance. Just lock up your own code for some Internet fame.
I don't even care about vega as my knox is tripped.
It's not right that you can just say, "okay this code is now licensed under xyz license" and then you don't even offer support? There is a difference between a kang and a rewrite...
What do you gain by licensing it? I read that you stated it's because you don't want to support the other kangs or something? Well, nobody expects you to.
You are just hampering development for this device.
Just my two cents and not meaning to be a personal attack but I just don't see your motive.

@designgears
It wouldn't have gone up, after the mods filled me in on the "Ins and outs" and even if you'd have stayed away, I wouldn't have posted it, I got PMs for it, but didn't disclose anything, because I "respectfully" understood why.
Even if you had have stayed dark, it wouldn't have been posted without your permission... it would have been annoying as hell, but not released.
As for the comment above, I thanked because I can sort of see what he's getting at about the code, rewrite it another language, it becomes something different that achieves the same result.
The fact you've reopened the original thread, has restored my faith in humanity

Did he quit because of the HTCClay ordeal? If so All those folks went to rootzwiki.com
His kernel thread was closed due to a lack of source being provided, in order to keep the site compliant with the law. Some jerk took that to mean he was banned or punished or in some way unwelcome at XDA, which is false. The OP deserves a nice temp ban for having such a glaring attitude towards the administrators here at XDA who are doing their best to keep this site running. But, for someone with one post, I can't see that doing any good. Best to just ignore the troll till the admins remove this thread.

That actually seems reasonably fair... Everyone is angry at Acer for doing that, I don't see why Thor should be held to a different standard. Having said that, his kernel was great... I hope he comes back and plays according to the rules.
With any luck this was all a big misunderstanding, and he just hadn't started a GIT yet but was about to, or something like that.
I mean his kernel was up a few days only, you couldnt have given him some more time to explain or something?
This is the guy that got Clockwork for EVERYBODY for ****s sake...
And its impossible to put a price tag on how important it is.

As I say, let's just hope this was all a big misunderstanding. Thor was asked for his source a few times in that thread, and he never responded to those requests publicly. I don't know what happened behind the scenes though, as you say. Perhaps a mod can clarify?
Of course they would... They ban all the best devs over stupid $h*t. Android is "open source" but now we say he was banned for not including source? Thanks conan keep up the great work...

Who the F%%% is this brilliant MOD???
WHY the F%%% don't you CLOSE ALL 3.1 topics and ask acer for a 3.1 source?
EVER HEARD OF ASKING? NICELY?
Thor was rebuilding his kernel from ground up anyway.
WTF? is this XDA OR CCCP?
Mod who bans = CONANTROUTMAN... Send all requests to him ;-)
Sent from my My Touch 4G using XDA Premium App
Please post the C&D if it REALLY was a legal thing
Seriously? Because he hasn't had time to post the source up? Really?
This isn't anything new even here on XDA, and as far as being legally compliant, show us the cease and desist order, please. In any event that's no cause to get a poster banned and XDA had plenty of occurrences on significantly less open platforms where they didn't ban the poster, but locked the content due to C&Ds.
Thor did significant amounts of work here to get us what we want. Acer and pretty much 100% of corporate industries are limited to what they can do or say because of much greater liability of what they produce. One user/fan/coder posting here not so much liability as none of it is anywhere near official.
So, again please post the C&D
Even if he was being a total jackass and blurted out obscenities AT mods, a temp ban would all that it would warrant.
CONANTROUTMAN banned him or CONANTROUTMAN is in charge of mods overdoing their job?
Who banned him?
This is crazy about one month ago we didn't have recovery, Then Thor arrived and fixed that he is very important to the development of the a 500, Lets hope this is temporary, Without devs like Thor we get nowhere on our devices, I have seen in the past when devs have fights with mods the devs leave for good. Its almost like they get jealous of the work they do.

DONT step on the DEV´s FEET!!!

There is a couple of threads started by the main Devs, that have been closed lately.
All b´coz ignorant and stupid ppl keep asking the same quiestions over again.Since they are superiour at devoloping roms, but have a hard time getting same questions all the time shuffeld upon them, time over time, the treads gets closed all the time to us uber users sad disapointment. If i had the power i would shoot all the wrong posters in the head, but i dont have the the power to do that. This is not a democracy, soo think before u post any stupid question that might offend the allmighty devs,or the treads might get closed.Remember,You are in the hands of the Devs, they have ALL the might to shut u down,We are ALL in the hands of the allmighty DEVS.
So ask ur self, can u live without the roms, can your life continue with an originar rom from lets say Samsung?Or are u here bcoz of ur curiosity? Are u here bcoz of the fun of trying lotz of diffrent roms?OR as me,just to try out something else?
I for sure can live with out the roms that codeworkz and he´s friends develop.Would my life be porer with out their roms?Nah dont think so,if there only were TW roms i would still be fine, but the option to choose is always better.Do i feel the need to kiss some devs ass to get googles latest, with all the bugs and annoying faults?Sure not.Im 40 years old,ive learned to hold my breath, theres no greener grass on the other side.My phone will still function as intended even without major Devs roms.
So,do i dont appriciate the work they do for free?Hell yes i do!For free?Well, some of us guys do donate,so for free isnt true.
Do i think Devs should be treated like gods?Nope,i think they should live by the same rules as all of us do,threat others with respect.!

+1 really fund with development on xda, but when Devs get to much
bs or noobish questions on their thread they just close it, instead of warning the person(s)
that are cluthering their thread and just in case off repeating theme selves just expell them
from xda for a period or FOR EVER!!!!!!!!!!!! this is what happens on most forums so why not here.
Imho this is still a forum about open source so why should you be invited only to get a
membership should we all be mail aswell to join?
Maybe cleaning up some (less used) sticky threads and getting more info, about using Q&A and the use off searching threads before asking, to new users would be something to consider ( maybe this can be done by first 20 posts opening a warning screen, that pops up at your screen, when you whant to post something that has to be checked within a scrollable popup screen) yes i know this needs some work by the mods but then youre probally done with noob questions and bs.

Calm down buddy no need to get yourself angry about this.
This is the second thread started by the same user in as many days expressing the same incoherent, poorly articulated babble.
Yesterday's rant about XDA being a dictatorship didn't last long before being locked and I can only hope that this worthless drivel is shut down every bit as quickly.
This outraged sense of entitlement crap is part of the problem and most certainly not the solution. It's not Devs that are making it hard work on XDA, it's people like you.
lol i opened a thread as well the other day.. makes that 3....but invite only would be good...
i admit i know only a little bit about Android and mobile phones, however as i work in a technical environment i understand the risks and what goes into developing.
again as i mentioned in my other thread.. XDA IS suffering as a result and it's name is being dragged through the mud across the net on other blogs and Developer forums. It's embarrassing and frankly I dont blame the Devs for leaving...
I feel like this is all targeted to CM9/ICS development, so let me answer this.
Hey people, calm down. We don't feel like gods at all, I can understand why you're mad, but hey, it's community's fault !
We spend hours and hours trying to bring AOSP experience to this device (and some others), and it's hard given the number of things Samsung doesn't do using Android standards. It's taking a lot of our free time, and gives us a lot of headaches.
That's one fact.
Now, you guys begged us to get an alpha, we gave it to you. What did we get in return ? The right to answers 1000000000 times the SAME questions. We made a Wiki, an FAQ, people STILL asks for dumb questions. They can't use google, they can't search a topic, they can't read, and they beg us to get an answer to their dumb questions. It's okay the first, second, third time... But when it's ALWAYS ALL TIME TIME the SAME, it gets boring, we get mad and arrogant, because we're doing all this stuff for YOU, and you can't even use the Thanks button properly. No, you come here and complain "Why **** doesn't work !!??", and you keep asking at EACH RELEASE if the SAME thing works or not, because you can't read the ChangeLog, or Google for specific terms that are inside it (like the Vendor libraries thing).
When you'll respect us, by doing a bit of work on your side, we'll get nicer. Codeworkx said it's your fault, and he's right.

[Q] Integrating Cornerstone in to a custom ROM? (how hard would it be?)

Just read that the CM team is integrating this in to CM9, it looks amazing!!
How hard would it be for someone more knowledgeable than me to integrate it in to a ROM for our Tablets? It's open source so I don't know if it's as simple as just compiling and installing, or if you would have to compile a ROM from the google AOSP after adding it?
http://www.onskreen.com/cornerstone/
Thoughts?
bumpity bump
I wish I had of thought of that. Why not, Google should think about integrating this as well.
Awesome idea.. would put Ios off the grid of usable tablet
very interesting .
I so would love something like this on our tablet .Thanks for the Link .I am not a developer in any way. But I did send them a email asking for more information.Maybe we can get a Developer to spark some interest when we get ics.. As of for now stuck waiting for a major update.. nothing will be seriously developed for our tablet..

Just for the record, if this site requires registration for downloads then it should not be linked to. If not it's fine as long as no non gpl compliant works are linked to.
Also, roms are not subject to the gpl only kernels are.

Are you guys totally blind that you've managed to miss the DOZENS of times this has been explained in these forums!?!?
Basically, Thor refuses to release is kernel source code as required under the GPL license. Because of this, his ROMs, which have his kernel integrated, are not allowed on XDA, nor are links to his site.
He's done this because some people took his code, made cosmetic changes, then released it as their own without giving him credit. Instead of dealing with it maturely and getting those people dealt with by the mods, he decided to throw his toys out of his pram in a toddlers tantrum and withdrew his sources. Legally, he has no right to do this because, no matter what changes he has made, it is NOT his source code and never was.
Note, the above applies to his kernel only, but as he ships his kernel inside his ROMs, his ROM's are included in the ban along with his kernels.
It's a damn shame because he's a pretty good developer, but XDA have to protect themselves from possibly GPL violations, so out goes his code.

Assuming they linked to the Thor's dev thread there for ICS, it falls under the criteria of registering for downloads.
By the way, can we PLEASE make it clear to other users the importance of GPL compliance on XDA? I'm getting sick of others and myself getting called jealous haters for explaining basic forum rules. I'm just as bothered we're out a good dev as others but it isn't anyone's fault but Thor. And I'm not the only one who sees this. I've talked to other users and they're just as shocked by what goes on in here.
Edit: And Aaron if you have ever been into the development subforum maybe you'd have seen the sticky of the rule I have been citing about GPL compliance. You know, the ONLY rule I ever bring up on this subject. Is this the one I'm "making up"?

signed hope they release it
It's not that simple. Samsung use binaries they are simply not allowed to release source for, due to IP rights and stuff of their respective owners.
These hardware designers have no duty nor intention to release source for their IP just because they're used in conjunction with an open source OS.

Title should be "Please Every US Samsung User Read This"
Asks for country then zip code ? Dafuq?
We dont use zip codes, heck we dont even have a functional mail service.

Signed because this is important. And I don't think it's a bad idea to have a separate topic for this because not everyone lurks on the CM discussion/dev threads
NOT signed because this is really NOT important!
Samsung, will, I am sure, release what source code they can (for legal reasons, such as IP licensing) ONCE THEY RELEASE ICS for the SGS2.
They WON'T release the source code before that, as they are still changing the code and working on the features / bugs etc. to make ICS work on the SGS2.
No amount of b*tching from anyone will make a large multi-national like Samsung drastically change their development / release cycles *JUST* to keep a very small number of users happy.
... remember they're under NO OBLIGATION to release this source code in full... although I'm sure they will...

WTF it's wrong with you? Who are you to say that?
Just because something isn't important for YOU, it does not mean that it isn't important at all! (No offense, but people like you annoy me really bad)

That's what we ask for. But "ONCE THEY RELEASE ICS for the SGS2" could mean anything from the same day till the same decade.
I hope you understand what I'm up to.
Protip: If you don't like the idea, stay out of the thread or, at least, don't post.
Thanks

What you don't seem to grasp is that Samsung DOES release its code within the month of releasing an official ROM (Update1, 2 and 3 of the Gingerbread source being the prime example of this). They release the source they CAN release. The petition is to put pressure on them for the rest of the source code, which I agree with stuclark, is quite possible will not happen. I signed the petition just in case to give an extra number to a petition I don't believe will matter.
stuclark is entitled to his opinion, as you are, so let him post what he wants. He did not do it in a cruel manner or with horrible intentions. He is in his right to not sign if he does not believe. This is just like a friend of mine who got bullied by students because she didn't wanna sign a petition.
And he is right you know, 5200 users as opposed to the millions of phones that were sold... Is a VERY small portion of the SGS2 community.

I have no problems when someone is entitled to his/her opinion.
BUT (s)he said that "it isn't important".
However, as there are people who sign this petition (or would, if they knew that it exists) it's BS.
(S)he should have said that it's not important in her/his opinion. That's quite a difference.
Your "argument" is nice too. The typical "you can't change anything anyway" argument.
Congratulations, if you think that way.

Hopefully this will speed the root process!

Not sure if there's any creed to this post, but if so it certainly seems like someone with a a bit more knowledge than me will be able to get us a root sooner than later!
Root ANY device?
jcase and others have a wsy to root. They are working on making the process safe for everyone. You just have to be patient. According to the cubed(hopefully I spelled it right) projected 1-3 weeks. I just don't want the devs get pissed and say to everyone DO ONE

@kmcphee:
Where do you get this information from? Do these guys have a twitter account?
Thank you!

Not sure this is cool. Spreading a leak of a rooting team from a hack job might be a bad omen.

This is not from a rooting team. This is from the italian company "Hacking Team" which is offering professional hacking-tools to their customers (also governments).
This company was hacked and all their exploits got published. This android stuff is one of many repositories with exploits of this company.

Yeah I'm aware they have root and they've had it for over a month with no release so they obviously haven't been successful in making it safe for everyone. Hopefully now instead of being a closed club we can have additional talented devs helping to speed the process along. It's not a slight against the guys that are working on it, but at the same time why limit ourselves to the 3-4 talented guys that are working on it when we have an entire community willing and (many) able to help.
really do hope there is some type of update to getting this phone rooted... if the camera wasnt so good i would have ditched this phone long ago

Yeah mine unfortunately has been laying on my desk unused other than using the camera for the past couple weeks. I've been using my S6 in the meantime and grabbing the G4 when I know I'm going to want to take pictures. I want to like the phone and it's got so much potential but every time I swap my SIM into it within 20 minutes the same old problems rear their head and I use it for whatever I'm doing and then go back to the S6 :/

The devs working on it are some of the best in this community. Disrespecting them like that won't make it any better for us. Different devs work on different brands of phones. You're more than welcome to find your own method of root of you don't like their precautionary process.

That's why I said they're very talented guys, the fact remains there are no results to show though. As I also said specifically, it's not a slight or disrespect against them in the least. I'm just pointing out that the more of these talented guys that we have working on it the better. I'm not sure why you feel the need to turn up in every thread pertaining to root for the G4 and try to derail it by ****ting on whatever the thread is about? Unless you've got a more constructive comment to provide I'd appreciate you not derailing this thread so that it gets closed as all the others have.
If I were able to come up with my own root method I would've. Since I'm not a developer and have little knowledge of these things I'd like to provide links like the one in the OP to those that can make better use of it than me as my contribution to the forum. If you have your own method of coming up with root or using the provided information usefully then please do, otherwise carry on.

Whether you think it wasn't, your comment was a dig at them. I don't "sh1t" on root threads. The only threads I input my frustration on are the people who keep repeating the same stuff that's been explained over and over again. You should take your own advice about constructive comments. Like I said, if you aren't happy with what the current devs are doing then find a root method yourself. They don't HAVE to do anything for us. They do this on their own time and don't have unlimited hours a day to work on things. Patience is a virtue. Root will be here within a couple weeks or less. If other devs want to take this and run with it, so be it, but it's not up to us to voice our opinions and commentary when we aren't donating any of our time and abilities in this community.

As a friendly suggestion, boosting1bar, maybe use "other" instead of "more" when positing something similar to this sentence, "Hopefully now instead of being a closed club we can have more talented devs helping to speed the process along." I get what you meant to say, but to some, it might read as a qualitative statement (as in developers with "more" talent than the ones being referred to), rather than a quantitative one (i.e. additional developers).

Everyone has their own interpretation, I guess those of you looking to be negative will see it that way. Hopefully the others who can make use of the information will see it for what it actually is.

When I read your post, I saw how people could misinterpret it, but I thought about it like this; A nicely packaged one-click-root from the current devs would be great, but if I could have root tomorrow, I wouldn't mind needing to stick my fingers in the guts of the android like the old days.
I'll risk a brick for a quick and dirty solution!

Well he said "more" in a sense of quantity not by any means of talent. I feel like if "other" was used it would be a little more disrespectful. But that's my opinion

I get that, but because of the way it was worded, it was clearly interpreted otherwise. Hence my suggestion.
As for "other" being more offensive, I'm not sure I see how, unless you elaborate. To me "other" would imply "other developers in addition to the ones mentioned." But I suppose there are always "other" ways to interpret it.
I will digress here, as I would prefer this thread be steeped in the semantics of rooting our common device as opposed to being bogged down in the semantics of intent.

I you will risk a brick, There is another method "supposedly" with KingUser........https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRxvdXeMtWY.
Don't risk your phone. But if there was somebody who knew about the matter and could look up the app without having to install it, it would be good.
