Remove pin attempts limit on Nexus 4 stock rom - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am using 4.3 stock rom. One thing is very annoying is the so-call security. The phone will be reset to factory setting if you enter wrong pin over 6 times. This is very bad idea. My little son sometimes plays on my phone by just touch those numbers in lock screen, so the pin attempts are easily over 6 times which cause my phone resets. How to remove this stupid feature? I remember on some phone, you have to wait for a few minutes in order to re-enter the pin code.

I wouldn't call it a stupid feature. When I enter my pin wrong a few times I have to wait to access my phone.

It is ok to wait for a few time, the stupid feature I called is "RESET to factory default". Is there a way to remove the feature?

Device Lock HELP!!!

I put on the settings->lock-> 4 digit password last night and I was able to unlock it several times last night and during the day.
Tonight the phone rang and during the call I was typing the password and now my password does not work. I always use the same password for the device so I'm sure I have the correct one. I keep getting the "password you typed is wrong"
How do I get around it? Is there a way?
I can hard reset if I have to but I have received several text messages while trying to figure this out and if I reset I will loose them all.

Not sure you are going to like this. I had similar experience and discovered there is a password bug in the Microsoft code. It has only bitten me once, but caused me a real problem.
If you still have some tries left, do a soft re-set and wait for a few minutes after the system has booted up. Then I suggest you use the on-screen keyboard, rather than the physical one.
If all else fails, do a hard re-set yourself, rather than allowing the password system to erase your machine, as it will erase EVERYTHING, even the memory card if that is installed
Best of luck

Help! Locked out of Tytn

Can anyone help me get into my phone? For some reason it is no longer accepting the 4 digit password when I switch on the phone. It's not saying the number is wrong, just "Emergency phone calls can be made". It says this as soon as any numbers are entered and before the Unlock soft button is pressed. Pressing the Unlock button seems to do nothing.
I can still browse the phone using ActiveSync. Is there a file I can remove to prevent the phone from locking when I soft reset it?
I've got HTC home installed and the phone is running Windows 6 (an official O2 upgrade). I'd like to avoid hard resetting the phone if poss.
Thanks
Fixed
Tried the same 4 digit pin today and it worked! There must be a timed lock that kicks in after a number of tries. There was a clock running yesterday on the screen.
But the odd thing was that I hadn't tried to get into the phone for a couple of days.
Now a bit worried that this'll happen again randomly. Does anyone know how this works?

Pattern Lock Attempt Bug, Locked Out Of X10

Im sure everybody has run into this problem on other android devices but i haven't seen this problem with many x10 owners. It must've unlocked itself and flapped around in my pocket until it incorrectly drew a pattern 5 or more times and somehow pressed the "Forgot Pattern?" button.
So your stuck with a screen that asks for your Gmail account login and ive tried every single combination of correct username and pass to get in but it is impossible ( Account logs in fine on PC ).
Ive read about ways to solve this and have come upon 3 different options.
1. Manual Factory Reset ( It's an option but i don't want to spend hours getting my phone back to how it was )
2. While in a call, ending the call and using a short window of opportunity (.5 seconds) to tinker around with your settings to try and make it possible to access your phone.
3. Download the Android SDK and enter something into the command prompt.
I would like to try option 3 however i heard that your phone must be rooted, i don't know how to go about rooting or if it is even possible for the x10.
Any support appreciated, thanks.
i guess don't use pattern lock is my suggestion. is there something else that can be used instead of pattern lock?

Might sound like a silly suggestion... but have you tried powering off. taking the battery and sim card out.. give it 30 seconds or so then put it all back together again.. might let you try your google account details then..
Did same, had to seus to get back in Lucky was 1st day owning so not bothered.
You mention the call thing, can you not disable the pattern lock whilst in call ?. I didnt know the phone could take a call when locked out so didnt try.

Lock screen bug

Just incase anyone else gets it, had a frustrating bug where after using the phone as normal throughout the day, I just went to unlock the phone using the to fingerprint unlock, which it said was unavailable and to use pin to unlock.
Upon inputting the pin it refused to accept the pin, was deffo correct used the same pin for years and years, no way I was getting it incorrect. No matter how many attempts it wouldn't work.
In the lock menu even holding down power I was unable to open the restart or turn off phone options aswell to compond the frustration.
After holding the power button for what felt like forever the phone performed a restart, the phone was able to be unlocked using the pin after the restart.
Had the phone for weeks and this is the 1 and only time it's occured. Just thought I would mention incase it happens to someone else
I can confirm that behavior and also the solution. Had that once as well.
Nearly the same issue here but in my case the power menu to restart the phone "normally" worked.....

PIN changed on its own!! HELP!

Hi there!
My OP6T was working fine 24 hours ago. All day yesterday I was unlocking with fingerprint and/or PIN. The phone died, I plugged it in and went to bed.
I woke up today and turned the phone on. It asked for my PIN due to restart, I entered my PIN and got wrong PIN. I thought I mis-clicked, so I tried it again. Still says wrong PIN. I restarted the phone and tried again, still said wrong PIN.
I thought I was going crazy, I did NOT change my PIN nor did anyone else (I live alone). I tried entering into recovery but theres password protection, which I don't remember encrypting my phone ever. I am using this phone fully stock, no custom recovery or unlocked bootloader. It is my business phone and I cannot afford to factory reset it!
I searched online and found many posts on OP forums of people having the same issue. For most of them, the phone changed its PIN from a PIN on another app such as MS teams, Business Outlook or work profile. I do not have any of those apps nor did I install anything else recently.
I am losing my mind here, please help me get into my phone. I have had the same PIN for 3 years and I enter it more than 20 times per day!
I can think of two options:
1.- someone else knows your pin and changed it without you noticing (doesn't matter if you live alone)
2.- you have memorised the pin with muscle memory and the pin you think is the correct is not but you don't realize because you've been using muscle memory. Been there, after 1 year of using the same pin couldn't remember it because muscle memory
Neither of those things is the case here. I urge you to do some research as this is quite common. Many, many threads over at OP forums of this happening to people especially after an update.
Someone would have had to break into my house while I slept ,took my phone off the charger, turn it on, change the PIN, turn it off and then leave my house.
Or somebody would have to remotely access my phone while it was off, turn it on (?????) Change the pin, then turn it off.
And no this is not a muscle memory issue. My PIN is my PIN, I did not forget it or change it.
Something is up, usually if you enter the PIN wrong the device is supposed to lock you out for 60 seconds, then more and more. Here, after 2-3 wrong tries I get told I have 2 more chances, then 1, then nothing. Then I enter 2 more times, it will repeat "you have 2 chances" I use those chances up and nothing happens
