Regaining your warranty. - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there everyone. I just wanted to share my experience in regaining my voided warranty. Not too long ago, I had attempted rooting my galaxy s4 I9500 for the first time, it had been a successful root and went ahead with flashing a custom rom which had also been successful.
Now this is where I went wrong, being the first time I had ever attempted these things, I got rather excited and went a little too far without reading carefully and attempted installing a ROM from the I9505 section and the required gapps. As you can imagine, my device blacked out. At this point I started freaking out and decided to go to the Samsung care center not far from me. I explained what I had done and the technician informed me that I had lost my warranty but not to worry it could be restored.
I was told to give him an hour and when I returned I received my device with the stock firmware installed and a note informing me that my warranty had been given back to me. Here are the screens to prove it.
So for $15 I had my device restored to original factory settings and an intact warranty in writing from Samsung.

[Q] [SOLVED] Sent Knox tripped device into warranty through rogers

So after a mistake on my note 3 i kept getting the following error "process system isn't responding" and then endless boot loops after doing all the recovery and clearing cache and what not. So i took into to rogers (keep in mind they knew i rooted it and triped knox) however they still sent it in for repair but i'm worried cause i don't think Samsung will repair it. its been 4 business days haven't heard a dayum word!!!!!!!!!!! i was told i would get it back in 5 to 8 days. ill keep you guys posted on what happens but in the meantime does anybody know any other way i can get it fixed in-case they don't fix it ? :crying:
i had same problem, 1 of the seniors said it was a matter of chaning the kernal back to stock...but my phone was already gone before i could try. Let me know what happens, geeksquad made a grave error by not taking my phone and 3 days later we went back to ask what is going on. They didnt have a refurbished phone in stock which should of been replacement and due to them not even looking at it they gave a brand new

i have no idea what i am doing!

hi there.
first of all couple weeks ago my phone went into a boot loop. went to phone shop and the guy fobbed me off because i didnt have insurance. so i went online to look for some help. discovered odin and used bootloader to get it out of loop. which wiped my imei number! now phone is useless, i have stalked forums and net for a while trying to get over this flashing new firm ware on my phone and trying to root it etc, but to be honest i try to follow guides but never seems to happen with me as something in the process is missing or not happening for me even with flashing the counter so i could send it to samsung( discovered i voided warranty not long after trying to DIY fix) wish i never botherd and stood my ground in phones 4 u to get them to send it away in first place!
i have gave up on me trying to do this as i dont think i have the know how to do this properly and i was wondering if theres anyone with the right knowhow here that i could send my phone to for recover the imei number so i can use it or atleast get it back to warranty worthiness as i desperately just want it working now
more than happy to cover the beer token fee ofcourse!
forgot to add i am uk based (cumbria at the moment tho i am from glasgow)
phone is a samsung s3 gt i9300
This is better suited for the Q/A section.
Uh, if your IMEI's gone then I don't think there's anything you can do to fix it... IMEI's are personal, not universal and if it's gone and you have no backup, well..... then you're SOL I'm afraid..
ahhh ok if an admin could move it to the right thread then sorry?
what does SOL mean? am sure i seen a thread where someone could change it tho?
as i said i dont know and i wish i never attempted this now.

Which version of Android were you on when bootloop occurred and which version did you flash which led to corrupted IMEI?
What IMEI do you see now?
i have no idea mate i got the phone on contract from phones 4 u (orange) 13 months ago and i am not sure what i bootloaded it with but then flashed it with the orange firm ware from sammoblie imei number was a generic iirc one cant remember what it was but i gave it to someone local to try sort the other day and now it is 355829058952634/01 when i type *#06# but on back it should be 355829/05/895263/4 as on the back. it still comes up with the screen on front with lots of yellow text(details)
Load the correct firmware with Kies. Sometimes when you load the incorrect firmware, the IMEI goes missing. It happened to me once too. Kies can revive the IMEI if it was an incorrect firmware flash.
---------- Post added at 11:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:13 PM ----------
You want to find out the firmware version that was recently flashed and your phone model number which is indicated underneath the battery.
This is really ridiculous that counter boy refused to have the phone back. Though you may get solution to your phone. But you should have gone to the consumer forum for such kind of thing or share this thing on social media sites as well as the issue get highlighted and this won't happen to someone else as well.

Random reboots after rooting

Just bought the galaxy s4 a few days ago and all I can say is it's a pretty awesome device. So to unlock the full potential of this phone, I went ahead and rooted it. I rooted my S4 successfully and when I went in to the supersu app, it tells me to block Samsung KNOX because it may cause some problems. So I agreed, and it was successful. Then I just found out that my phone just randomly reboots at different times. I want to undo the damage, but how can I do such a thing? Please help me.

[Q] i9505 Almost Dead

Hi all
I bought a new samsung S4 i9505 ---without guaranty---
2 days ago the device started restarting and the sound goes dead and there can't be anything to make the device produce any sound neither from the front speaker nor from the main speaker nor even the headphones !!
I did a hard reset and voila -or i thought so- the device finally worked fine completely , until after about an hour when it started freaking out and not responding and the sound went dead again , restarting the device only sent it to a boot loop !
Finally today i installed a complete system using ODIN and it worked fine again for only an hour and then it went to the boot loop
I plugged the phone to the charger and powered it on and it worked smoothly but with no sound at all again :X
So can any guy help me sort this problem out please
Thanks in advance
you mean you bought a used samsung s4 with no warranty? and this is a wrong thread. it should be moved to q&a forum
No , it is new just without warranty

Stores usually offer warranty.
So there's something odd at the middle.
Maybe you bought it from some dealer on the street..and those usually never sell you anything good.
Well the store did give me a warranty but only for software issues , and he said this must be a hardware issue.
So is this true ?

I asked WHEN, not WHERE.
When is time related. Where is location related.
Also, warranties usually are all-rounders. Meaning they offer service to software and hardware related issues.
So why did they offer only software?
Anyway. If it is hardware related then there is nothing you can do, except to change the parts.
LOL
My bad , i read it like where , and was like what difference does it make where i got it , my mistake
anyway as i said it is not a big firm or anything like that is just a small shop only providing software warranties
and as i said in the first post i got it about a month ago
i will try flashing with pit file
thanks for the advice

Didn't see that info
Anyway. What I am trying to say is that maybe they knew about the phone having issues and that's why they offered only software warranty (A bit paranoic, I know)
once the phone boots up try dialing *#0*# and let us know how that goes. This MAY be a kernel issue. happens when they probably have given you an S4 with a different model number, with a different firmware flashed. (sometimes i9505 vs. i9515 due to different chips) What is the model number shown in the download mode? i9505? And Knox Status?
The service tests all OK except both speaker tests
The download mode shows i9505
i don't know what this Knox is

So your bootloader doesnt say anything about knox? What version of android are you running?
KNOX cernerl lock : 0x0
KNOX warranty void: 0x1
i was on latest jellybean , tried flashing it with odin and the problem didn't go away
tried lollipop and it is just the same
when i turn the phone on it gives the booting sound hangs about a min or tow boots up , sometimes doesn't even complete booting, sometimes the sound stays functional for a few mins then stops sometimes it instantly after the boot stops
could it be some minor issue like battery malfunction maybe ?
or is it a big issue ?
i don't want to take it to samsung and pay the fix if i can fix it my self because i am not good at turkish and they speak so little english that i will not be able to make them understand the problem

Hard bricked A5 in warranty ?

Hey guys, I have a "little" problem . I was downgrading My Galaxy A5 (SM-A500FU) to 4.4.4 from 5.0.2 and somehow the result was hard bricked phone ? I have done a few downgrades before on the same phone with the same ODIN files and everything was fine, but now it wasn't, still searching the reason why. But that's not important now. Important is that my phone is in warranty. My phone wasn't rooted and Knox state was always 0x0 after every ODIN procedure. I always flashed with stock ROM from sammobile. About the warranty, my provider accepted the phone for repairing, but I'm confused will they fix it or return it as non-warranty-allowed actions like downgrading and ODIN manipulations. What do you think ? Thanks and sorry for my low english.
Please look in question answer for my thread about my repair, knox 1/0 no problem here, lol.

Dude let me tell you my experience... I had my phone taken in and it was clearly warranty void.. But i told them everything ,but not the part i was messing with kernels and recoverys, so they didnt check for the knox logs ... they just changed my mobo.. it was in warranty as well.. If you told them that you indeed downgraded then i guess there's a slight chance that they won't fix it.
Hope you don't have to pay for anything good luck

No, I didn't. I told them only that I put my phone to charge and when I checked it after 15 min I only had black screen and no reaction at all whatever I do.

Ok, the results: I got my phone back without any problems, as far as I know the whole motherboard is replaced. But I have another question: Can I remove this notification about this software update (which was the reason to reinstall my phone, it completely buged my phone, now I don't want to do the same mistake) ? It's very annoying. Pics:

I never told them what ive done before the camera was broken, i only reported the error and thats all, 8 days later my phone was back with new camera, all runs perfect, in germany you loose waranty only when its 100% sure that the software you have installed the reason is that your phone is broken. In 99% its not software related so it was no problem.
