Random reboots after rooting - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just bought the galaxy s4 a few days ago and all I can say is it's a pretty awesome device. So to unlock the full potential of this phone, I went ahead and rooted it. I rooted my S4 successfully and when I went in to the supersu app, it tells me to block Samsung KNOX because it may cause some problems. So I agreed, and it was successful. Then I just found out that my phone just randomly reboots at different times. I want to undo the damage, but how can I do such a thing? Please help me.

Galaxy S4 Constant Reboots!!!

Hi all, I have had my galaxy s4 I9500 for 4 weeks now and running completely on stock rom I9500UBUAMDK. Only recently I have been having problems with the phone rebooting 3-4 times a day in my pocket! This is getting very frustrating and need an urgent fix! I have already factory reset the phone and there's no warranty as I purchased my phone online and unlocked. If anyone else is having the same problem or could give me advice, please share. Thanks!
There is a known problem , with too many apps open, and when camera is launched, the phone will reboot.

Regaining your warranty.

Hi there everyone. I just wanted to share my experience in regaining my voided warranty. Not too long ago, I had attempted rooting my galaxy s4 I9500 for the first time, it had been a successful root and went ahead with flashing a custom rom which had also been successful.
Now this is where I went wrong, being the first time I had ever attempted these things, I got rather excited and went a little too far without reading carefully and attempted installing a ROM from the I9505 section and the required gapps. As you can imagine, my device blacked out. At this point I started freaking out and decided to go to the Samsung care center not far from me. I explained what I had done and the technician informed me that I had lost my warranty but not to worry it could be restored.
I was told to give him an hour and when I returned I received my device with the stock firmware installed and a note informing me that my warranty had been given back to me. Here are the screens to prove it.
So for $15 I had my device restored to original factory settings and an intact warranty in writing from Samsung.

[Q] rooting and device encryption sm-n900

Greetings,
Yesterday I decided to root my Note 3 (sm-n900) mainly to remove samsung's bloatware and install afwall.
Just after I rooted my phone with Odin + "CF-Auto-Root-ha3g-ha3gxx-smn900" and went for the first reboot, I noticed that my phone wouldn't boot anymore. After some hair pulling, I decided to wipe the device and after that it booted fine.
Finally I managed to remove %[email protected]! Flipboard and My magazine (a lot of crashes with sms and regular email, but worth removing!). Total happiness and a faster phone!
When I tried to enable encryption on the device, the phone just crashed again (with the same droid logo that appeared on the boot before the wipe). I came here and found some other users talking about rooting + encryption with sm-n900 saying that it's not working. (some reported that kingo method would work, but I really don't feel comfortable with king).
Now I'm downloading the stock rom, and planning to flash the note3 back to original since I have the recipe for T virus on my phone and couldn't allow it to fall on wrong hands
Is this a bug on cf-auto-root or encryption doesn't work with rooting at all? If it's a bug, any ideas of when a fix should be around?
Thanks!
Hi eduardogsilva,
I don't know your device, but I encountered a problem activating encryption on a rooted SM-P900. I'm not sure, but I think it's a general problem with Samsung KitKat devices. I described, how I got it solved for my device here. If you still have issues, please have a look at my thread and let me know, if it works for you...
Cheers!

Hello radicalisto, following the guide that bruzzy wrote, I managed to activate the encryption on a rooted note3.
So I guess that it should be fine now... Or is there any other issues besides activating encryption?
thanks

It'll work, just not 100% - don't be surprised if one day it freaks out on you and doesn't let you unlock it. Happens sometimes, Although, it may be that it'll stay fine for you (luck of the draw) - with root being an exploit, the system is designed to look out for changes and freak out if it spots them.

Well, the important information that I have on my mobile is in sync, the only bad thing would be reinstalling and reconfiguring everything again, so not a big problem in loosing my phone data.
I would love to use a custom rom and completely say goodbye to touchwiz and to the huge bloatware that comes with my phone, but unfortunately, CM for note3 exynos is not available yet.
thanks

[Q] "Network" isn't working guys, really need your help!

I used to flash VN-Rom and some times Dr. Ketan Rom in my SM-N900 and it always worked properly until last time.
After I flashed Dr.Ketan Rom my network stopped working. So immediately flashed stock rom via ODIN but even now my network isn't working!
What to do guys, please somebody help me out here! :crying:

Yeah, but it doesn't show anything and says null/null! And the baseband I think is of the rom I Flash and both Dr.Ketan & VN-ROM have the same baseband!
How to restore the network in stock rom as well and what is Best Smart Tool?
Thanks in advance!!:good:

No, no and no. It is software related...
Samsung does not kill their handsets when you root them...
Try this one

Worst fairy tale.
Repeated rooting will never break your hardware unless you mess something up really badly.
To OP - I assume your IMEI is unknown. Do you have EFS backup? Restore it if you do. If no, then flashing stock ROM via Odin appears to have fixed it. Search, this issue has been discussed very many times.

[Q] i9505 Almost Dead

Hi all
I bought a new samsung S4 i9505 ---without guaranty---
2 days ago the device started restarting and the sound goes dead and there can't be anything to make the device produce any sound neither from the front speaker nor from the main speaker nor even the headphones !!
I did a hard reset and voila -or i thought so- the device finally worked fine completely , until after about an hour when it started freaking out and not responding and the sound went dead again , restarting the device only sent it to a boot loop !
Finally today i installed a complete system using ODIN and it worked fine again for only an hour and then it went to the boot loop
I plugged the phone to the charger and powered it on and it worked smoothly but with no sound at all again :X
So can any guy help me sort this problem out please
Thanks in advance
you mean you bought a used samsung s4 with no warranty? and this is a wrong thread. it should be moved to q&a forum

Stores usually offer warranty.
So there's something odd at the middle.
Maybe you bought it from some dealer on the street..and those usually never sell you anything good.
Well the store did give me a warranty but only for software issues , and he said this must be a hardware issue.
So is this true ?

I asked WHEN, not WHERE.
When is time related. Where is location related.
Also, warranties usually are all-rounders. Meaning they offer service to software and hardware related issues.
So why did they offer only software?
Anyway. If it is hardware related then there is nothing you can do, except to change the parts.
LOL
My bad , i read it like where , and was like what difference does it make where i got it , my mistake
anyway as i said it is not a big firm or anything like that is just a small shop only providing software warranties
and as i said in the first post i got it about a month ago
i will try flashing with pit file
thanks for the advice

Didn't see that info
Anyway. What I am trying to say is that maybe they knew about the phone having issues and that's why they offered only software warranty (A bit paranoic, I know)
once the phone boots up try dialing *#0*# and let us know how that goes. This MAY be a kernel issue. happens when they probably have given you an S4 with a different model number, with a different firmware flashed. (sometimes i9505 vs. i9515 due to different chips) What is the model number shown in the download mode? i9505? And Knox Status?
The service tests all OK except both speaker tests
The download mode shows i9505
i don't know what this Knox is

So your bootloader doesnt say anything about knox? What version of android are you running?
KNOX cernerl lock : 0x0
KNOX warranty void: 0x1
i was on latest jellybean , tried flashing it with odin and the problem didn't go away
tried lollipop and it is just the same
when i turn the phone on it gives the booting sound hangs about a min or tow boots up , sometimes doesn't even complete booting, sometimes the sound stays functional for a few mins then stops sometimes it instantly after the boot stops
could it be some minor issue like battery malfunction maybe ?
or is it a big issue ?
i don't want to take it to samsung and pay the fix if i can fix it my self because i am not good at turkish and they speak so little english that i will not be able to make them understand the problem
