My 2 months old Touch HD doesn't charge the battery anymore.
If i plug the power cord, the notification led turns red for 5-7 sec., then it turns off, and the battery meter shows no charging.
I can sync it with PC but runs again on battery, even the check box (under the power meter) is unchecked.
The only way to charge the battery, is to let the battery drains out (the phone turns itself off) and remove the battery from phone for few minutes.
I have the original ROM 1.57.831.1 (47324) WWE from 04/08/09 and i tried one hard reset ("clear storage" from settings).
Does anyone know how to fix this ?
I'm verry disappointed. Now it does'nt charge even i remove the battery.
I think i'll try the warranty service.
No other suggestions ?
Are you sure it is the problem of the HTC HD? I got hte same problem. But because I charged my second battery which was newly bought from the official website HTC UK. My original battery works well. So I returned my second battery.
Try another battery.

yep, same here...
my girlfriend and me, we own a HD, pretty much the same issue...
My device frist stated "unkown main battery status" and has been only willing to charge the battery while switched off and connected to PC (charger doesn't work).
My grilfriend's one now refuses to start at all.
One thing for sure - its not battery related since my fully recharged battery doesn't make her device starting.
I sometimes pulled out the battery without swichting the device off, or left it running for days before reseting it...i guess that might have triggered the problem...
gotta send it in, hopefully they don't mind my custom rom!

I had this problem to.... Change of USB cable did the trick! So.....it's possible that your USB mini cable is dead. Try another USB if you haven't tried it yet.
Thank you all.

I don't think it's the cable because i let the phone charging on my desk and suddenly, after few minutes (sometimes 1 min, sometimes 60 min) it stops charging (without touching/moving the cable),

Well, in your case, for sure its not battery related.
After i left the battery out of the phone for 6 hours, it start charging again for 45 min then, the notification led start blinking red and green. After 2 minutes, the led turns off and i started the phone with 40% battery life.
It's driving me crazy and i don't know what to think!
I start to believe it's a battery problem but i'll ask for service opinion too, since i payed a lot of money for this.
Solved
My handset was repaired in service.
The problem was hardware related, generated by malfunction of switching power alimentation mechanism to motherboard.

get into recovery and try a cache wipe to start. if that doesn't work, do a factory reset. have you backed up your apps or anything? doing a factory reset will wipe your data and you'll lose all apps, settings, everything, but it will take the tab back to "out-of-the-box" setup.

What happened to cause this? Did you let it drain down to zero? Did it go from 50% to 0% at once?
More details please on what led you to this point.

Plug into wall charger, turn tablet off, let it charge for an hour and see if it boots back up.
Not USB, to weak.
And......you really should know better then to root and do intensive tasks with 13% battery. Just saying.

Have the same problem, battery is working good but looks likes battery sensor malfunction, so system doesn't know battery status!.
Don't know what is the effect of that for the battery life!.
Tried every thing to fix that.
Any way, the only solution is RMA, already called Google, and they agreed for a replacement.
So, don't wait, you got 15 days since you got it for a replacement.

I had this problem when I had the latest bootloader installed on my device, everytime I tried to charge it from (what it thought was) 0% the tablet would turn on and instantly turn off again because it had 0%.
I somehow managed to get it into fastboot and loaded the older bootloader (the one which won't let you into recovery without being connected to USB) and the tablet began to charge without turning itself on!
I left it to charge for about 2 hours, turned it on and it had enough juice in it to stay turned on and charge the rest of the way to 100%.
Not sure what the reason / cause of this was, my battery was at about 10% before it happened and it suddenly depleted to 0%!
Hope this helps!

my situation is different here, like this, I got my shipment at work, open the box, turned on the device, it's like 40%.
test it then put on the table for charge, take a look was in 98%..... after half hour it's 0% with on red battery icon.
Now sometimes battery work and I can see the "xx%", sometimes it stayed at 61% for 1 hour of use then jump to 42%!!
Sure something wrong with the battery sensor!.
This is a classic example what happens when people don't take the time to educate themselves on rooting their device. Anyone who owns a nexus device should know where to find factory images for both old and new firmware. And I always charge via USB and not AC. AC overheats my battery way too much. It can cause serious damage to your device.
Just saying
Hey guys,
I noticed this yesterday my Nexus 4 (running PA 3.6, franco milestone 1) shut down at 30% charge. I went home and charged it (it showed 0 when I started charging it) to 100% continuously.
Today too the phone shut down when it was around 32-31% and now charging has again started from 0%.
What could be the issue?
I have tried the battery calibration app even though I know it does nothing.
Any ideas?

I have been flashing nightlies merrily on the Nexus4, never had to recalibrate the battery, though it sounds like your does need that. (I had a Desire HD before this, and it was very sensitive to errors in battery calibration)
How about if you charge the phone fully then either reflash the ROM or flash a nandroid backup you've made? Either of those options will overwrite the battery stats file - if that's the problem.
It could be that the chip in the battery is malfunctioning, ie a new battery could be needed, but that sounds much less likely

Okay I'll try reflashing the ROM when I'm at a 100%, I know deleting the batterystats.bin file doesn't do anything but I did that anyways yesterday, but it seems it didn't fix the calibration issue.
Any other ideas I could try while I charge my phone to a 100%?

Hi, @paul c, I would like to inform you that my phone's discharging just fine (charged it to a 100% last night and it's currently at 48%, I didn't reflash my ROM but I did reboot it once. I also haven't charged it since then)
Could you tell me what's the minimum and maximum battery voltage? I am guessing that the max voltage is around 4200mV but what's the minimum? Also, can we calculate the REAL battery %age from the voltage that is displayed by apps like DashClock? If we can do that could you tell me how/what formula we use to do that?
I know I'm asking a lot of questions and I would really appreciate any help here !
Thanks!

Hi,
I was inspecting the battery's voltage/charge the entire day today and I realized that at around 36% the voltage went around 3000mV (3100mV, Nexus 4's battery is rated at 3800mV and it maxes at around 4200mV). After that when I plugged it back in and turned it on it started charging from 0%.
I think the battery is at fault.
Is there any fix for this which does not involve replacing the battery?
Thanks!

Unfortunately this didn't work for me. I tried charging through the night and then discharging it completely and charging it completely again. I also tried deleting the batterystats file (even though I know it doesn't do anything)
So what do you suggest I should do? Get the phone replaced or get the battery changed?
I live in India and the phone is from Canada, so replacing the phone will take some time but I can get the battery replaced for around $20
Also my nexus is also showing +ve mA values while it's not charging, and the values are absolutely crazy, +268, +168, +1171 (in batter monitor widget)
Please tell me what I should do.

When you open the back case did you notice if the battery looks bigger/inflated? Maybe you should replace the battery.

Okay, I got my battery replaced, drained it to 0% (after a full charge) and going to charge it completely by the travel adapter that I purchased from the service center.
Attached are the pics of my old battery, I don't know if you can see it but it's swollen. If I recall I used a nexus s' charging cable to charge the phone from a computer and it was charging like AC (my kernel usb fast charge was OFF) and it also never detected my phone in the explorer (Windows)
My problem's solved now, it was a battery issue for me. I upgraded to PA 4.3 in the process by the way
So I guess I'll stick to my regular micro USB cable and charge via the travel adapter whenever possible, thank you everyone for your inputs!

It sounds like a hardware issue. It could be the battery not getting the amps it needs to charge, or the battery itself is bad. The only solution is to have an expert to check it out or buy another phone as the last resort.

I ran my phone down to empty battery, so I went to charge it. As it was already powered off I left it because, surely, it would charge faster that way.
When I came back to take it off the charger I discovered the phone powered on, display on full brightness, WiFi on and everything, and the phone hadn't charged sufficiently at all.
I never told it to turn on but it does this every time, and even when I turn it back off it turns back on again!!! ???
Thanks for your answers! ?
The same thing happens to me... no offline charging on our G6's, at least not after reaching around 5% of battery.
So when I want to charge my g6 faster, I will plug it in and make sure it's charging and then I will power it off. It will act like it's booting back up but it won't.

You can't change that. The only workaround is to turn it off after you have connected the charger. Since I use wireless charging, that is a difficult option for me so I just gave up.
You can't ffs, it has auto boot after 3-4% of charging. And thats not even a bad thing. If you want charge it faster turn airplane mode on, on charging.

Try factory reset first. If still the same then it sounds like a battery failure, which can be replaced but not easily.

That option in settings is there whether you can OEM unlock the device or not... Also, most or at least some G6 models can be OEM unlocked.
That temperature warning is still probably your battery. Batteries can get extremely hot when they malfunction (much more so than the other components alone) so I'd get it checked out or you may have a Note7 in your hands

So still no fix for the issue? Mine is turning on when charging as well, I mainly use wireless charging but it happens when charging with the USB cable AND when charging wirelessly. The phone will not stay powered off. Any suggestions? I have the most recent Android 8.0.0 update, VS988 on Verizon. I've never had an issue like this on Android, very frustrating.
I also found this link from LG. It seems to be software based, why would they do this?

In my case I drained the battery during usage thus not performing a graceful shutdown. When I try to charge into the wall it displays the charging icon on the screen and runs out of power and shuts down again-->Won't Charge.... I plugged the cable into my computer which seems to perform a slower charge --> the battery icon does not display and I am able to charge... this is silly as as a workaround solution. How to prevent the battery icon from display during charge?
This worked for me and it was so simple. I was looking in the wrong place for an answer.
On the plug end, where the USB cable is plugged into the plug, I noticed that the cable did not seem to be pushed in all the way. I pulled it out of the plug, then reinserted it as far as it would go.
Voila! The problem went away. I can now turn off my phone, insert the charging plug, and the phone goes into fast charge and, most importantly, stays powered OFF. Try it. this might work for you as well.
