Keeps turning on when charging, how do I stop it? - LG G6 Questions and Answers

I ran my phone down to empty battery, so I went to charge it. As it was already powered off I left it because, surely, it would charge faster that way.
When I came back to take it off the charger I discovered the phone powered on, display on full brightness, WiFi on and everything, and the phone hadn't charged sufficiently at all.
I never told it to turn on but it does this every time, and even when I turn it back off it turns back on again!!! ???
Thanks for your answers! ?

The same thing happens to me... no offline charging on our G6's, at least not after reaching around 5% of battery.

So when I want to charge my g6 faster, I will plug it in and make sure it's charging and then I will power it off. It will act like it's booting back up but it won't.

You can't change that. The only workaround is to turn it off after you have connected the charger. Since I use wireless charging, that is a difficult option for me so I just gave up.

You can't ffs, it has auto boot after 3-4% of charging. And thats not even a bad thing. If you want charge it faster turn airplane mode on, on charging.

"ffs"? I don't think it was that unreasonable to ask. Don't be rude. I already know about airplane mode.

Try factory reset first. If still the same then it sounds like a battery failure, which can be replaced but not easily.

when i plug into charging it shutdown sometime with heat temperature warning sometime without ..i think its not battery issue ..as other people also face different issue like when they plug in device tirn off it automatically turn on when plug in ..
by the way why there is option in USB debuggin menu for Unlock OEM and usb debugging as it cant be unlocked :crying:

That option in settings is there whether you can OEM unlock the device or not... Also, most or at least some G6 models can be OEM unlocked.
That temperature warning is still probably your battery. Batteries can get extremely hot when they malfunction (much more so than the other components alone) so I'd get it checked out or you may have a Note7 in your hands

thanks for info .. lets see i got new battery

So still no fix for the issue? Mine is turning on when charging as well, I mainly use wireless charging but it happens when charging with the USB cable AND when charging wirelessly. The phone will not stay powered off. Any suggestions? I have the most recent Android 8.0.0 update, VS988 on Verizon. I've never had an issue like this on Android, very frustrating.
I also found this link from LG. It seems to be software based, why would they do this?

In my case I drained the battery during usage thus not performing a graceful shutdown. When I try to charge into the wall it displays the charging icon on the screen and runs out of power and shuts down again-->Won't Charge.... I plugged the cable into my computer which seems to perform a slower charge --> the battery icon does not display and I am able to charge... this is silly as as a workaround solution. How to prevent the battery icon from display during charge?

This worked for me and it was so simple. I was looking in the wrong place for an answer.
On the plug end, where the USB cable is plugged into the plug, I noticed that the cable did not seem to be pushed in all the way. I pulled it out of the plug, then reinserted it as far as it would go.
Voila! The problem went away. I can now turn off my phone, insert the charging plug, and the phone goes into fast charge and, most importantly, stays powered OFF. Try it. this might work for you as well.

so strange, i think this is not a fault of battery, because lithium polymer battery is really long lasting, have you connect your x1 to computer, please connect your x1 to charger and wait about 1 hour. but maybe it's the fault of mini usb port, can you sync your x1 before it happen? in your case, bring it up to guarantee service is the best solution, what did you do before the device turn off?
Leave it on the charger, it could take about 15 - 20 minutes to start charging if the battery completely died.
i used a wall charger, and a computer charger, still no luck...i wasnt doing anything, i was playing a game and shut the game off started browsing through the fone, and it just shut off after a few battery low warning sounds. but the red light goes on after a wall charger, but nothing when i try to turn it on, it doesnt turn on, and when i unplug it to try to turn the phone on, the side lights flash red...i have no idea whats goin on but i got the phone today and its pissing me off already i spent 680 on the phone for a peice of crap...

ah, you should keep it in the wall chager a bit longer, and don't use the computer charge at this time, when the battery complete die, you should keep it charge about 10 minutes before you can start it, don't worry, when you can see the flash light turn red, it's charging, wait a few minutes more, it's will work, just forget about it, go somewhere, when you comeback, push the power button:d

was had same problem.just leave it charged.i leave it charged into usb drive, and it needs 5h before he turn on.battery was completely dead, like probably you have too.just leave it charged throught the night.
Charge some time and then remove battery cover and try to reset. as u mentioned lights are flashing when u r trying to switch on so just reset.
The X1 of my colleague had the same problem and he had the battery replaced by the vendor, no questions asked as it was dead after only 2 days...

Hi, I got similar problem and I called the support guys.
They advised me to remove the battery and charge the phone for 30 min and charged with the battery for 1.5 hour.
He claimed is some 'internal battery' stuffs.
Anyway I tried and it works.
In addition, I charged the battery when the level hits a minimum of 20%.
So far so good
Good luck.

That Solution worked for me as well. I was in Germany with some navigation software to find my destination address. Than suddenly my phone died, I thought. So I was stuck somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

Ummm Worried... phone wont turn on...

I was running Fresh 2.0d for about 2 days and everything was working fine.
I was in the middle of testing if bambuser stream app was any good and it just...kind of died.
The battery was at 0% basically but I had it plugged in to the comp. The phone's charge light it turning on but the phone wont power on...
Help?
Don't panic. It is just "shot" as I call it. Needs time to charge and cool down. I would recommend plugging it into a wall charger is possiable. Pull the battery out first though and pop it back in. Then put it on the charger for 15 mins. I promise it will come right back on (I have this problem when tethering for days on end LOL)
Yeah I was hoping I'd get a response like this... cause the charge is functioning... its just not turning on
But yeah it WAS at 0% so its kind of stupid to make a topic like this.
HAHA Well I understand the worries. When this 1st happened to me, My heart sank and I died inside xD. I could have swore that my company busted me tethering or something and turned off my phone LOL I didn't know.
Can't live without tethering
There's actually a warning from HTC out there somewhere that says if your battery is below 15% then you shouldn't try charging via USB. But yea as others said I would get it plugged in to a while and be patient. It'll come back to life.
Lol, this just happened to me today too, was testing out the new aloewishus rom, and while booting it went blank, then just... stayed blank. Took batery out, put back in, it'd vibrate then... blank.. Luckily i had a back up, fully charged batery, popped it in and viola! works again, I was super freaked out for a minute.

Flipz is correct, and I had this happen to me before, even the car charger wouldn't help, I had to wait until I got home and plug it in the wall charger and *poof* it turned on within five minutes of charging (BTW: when it did boot back up the battery was drained 92%)

USB ports can't put out as much current as the wall charger can, so it will charge MUCH slower via USB. If you're running any power hungry apps, it's entirely possible that USB won't be able to keep up and your battery will go dead even though it's plugged in.
In fact, I've noticed on a couple of CPU intensive games even the wall charger just barely "keeps up" (meaning the battery doesn't drain, but it also doesn't gain any significant charge while I'm playing them).

You can't charge with phone off with magldr... the phone needs to be on. Cotulla has it turn on on purpose when it's plugged in because people were complaining that they had to remove battery to boot after charging while off. This is mentioned in the magldr thread as a feature of the newest version.
Why not just leave it on while charging?

let it rest ? maximize my mobile life by switching it off every night?
am i wrong ?
marginal difference, you would get a better charge if you slow charged it....potentially.
also run it low an charge rather than lots of little charges, do not empty battery!! if you do you wont be able to turn on the phone which in turn means you wont be able to charge it at all.
If you do run it empty and WP7 fails to boot before turning off again you may have one or two shots at getting it to charge
this is only a last ditch chance at getting your phone to boot in such situations with out resorting to external charging
so, if your phone turns off due to being empty then restarts by its self but fails to load the os before restarting again , remove the battery straight away, letting it restart and fail over an over will only make things worse
next you need to apply some high school physics to the battery.....
heat it up, place it on a radiator or somewhere you can heat it up and keep it to hand, do not use a fire or a heat source strong enough to burn you, no not leave it on otherwise it will likely blowup.
anyhow, once the battery is toasty warm you should be able to get 1 shot at loading the OS to allow propper charging. This will only work if there is some charge in teh battery, if you go to far than external charge is the onlyother alternative

HELP! Atrix 4G wont turn on!

I just took my atrix out of my pocket and its turned off itself, everytime i try to turn it on, the LED light turns green and then goes off. nothing, black screen!
Try pulling the battery out. that should fix it.

Plug to wall charger.
Same thing happened to me the other day. It's probably because your battery is drained. Plug into a wall charger and let it charge for at least 30 minutes.

First of all, your reply has no useful information whatsoever, second, when the device works just fine for month while plugged in into computer then one morning it doesn't wake up, what do you expect people do? And why in the world would it matter for a good built phone that charges through USB matter if it's plugged in into computer or a wall charger? - it's nonsense...
In fact, there are many other phones that even if the battery dead it would work when plugged in into computer, even removing battery wouldn't shut it down.
In Atrix case if battery died you have to find a wall charger, then wait 30 minutes? seriously? - well done, Motorola, well done!

It's not nonsense. USB can only provide 500mA of current, wall chargers pretty much can double or triple that. That's why it takes ages to charge any phone over USB compared to a wall charger.
First of all, why are you digging up this relic of a thread? The comment you're responding to is from 4 months ago.
Second of all, @CaelanT is right, sometimes people panic unnecessarily. It happens. And his comment does offer something useful, it's a reminder that sometimes it can be the simplest of things that will resolve your issue.
Third of all, @turl1 is correct about the mA output, that's just common sense, though some newer computers are capable of 1Amp of output.
Have a nice day.

well in my case i had a full battery
it didnt even take me 20 secons for it to pop right up....
what happen was that one battery was basically dead... put it in n nothing, put in the full battery n nothing...
so put in fill battery n pop it in the wall socket n wwollah.. pops right up..
ANOTHER THING... I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND CHARGING FROM A COMPUTER!
was charging mine since day n battery was at 100 n withing 2 hrs it was literally dead n my battery is brand new....
so ye, basically goto train it again...
and as much as possible...USE UR ORIGINAL CHARGER !!!

Cycling in the starting of charging process

I have an ASUS ZenFone Max Pro (X00T/X00TD)
It is/was discharged and powered off. When i plug it in for charging, it is cycling in start of chaging:
1. vibration
2. the icon of empty battery
3. The bootloader is unlocked... text
4. the icon of empty battery
5. empty screen
1. and then starts again from vibration
I tried to clean the phone's connector, even wiped and stracthed the connector a littlebit, and changed cable, charging source. (One cable is in the 1A charger, another cable is connected to PC.) It doesn't get better.
I tried to leave it in the cycling, i hoped it gets some power.
Does the phone charge always when connected to power, or it just start the charging process after it shows the charging animation (which i don't reach)?
I tried to step in Fastboot mode. It stays in this mode, no cycling.
Does the phone charge in fastboot mode?
I tried to step in Recovery mode.
1. vibration
2. powered by android
3. The bootloader is unlocked... text
4. powered by android
5. empty screen and turns off
In fastboot mode i tried to flash stock recovery, and also TWRP recovery. The flashing process works, but i still cannot get in recovery mode, to see something more, maybe about battery or i dont know.
Of course the phone does not turn on. The same as when i try to get in recovery mode.
1. vibration
2. powered by android
3. The bootloader is unlocked... text
4. powered by android
5. empty screen and turns off
I did not do anything special nowadays with the phone. Bootloader unlock and rooting was years ago, nor i did upgrade, so nothing special. I just used the phone, it discharged, and i'm in this state.
What can i do? Is it something with charging, or it has enough power after connected in fastboot mode, but the problem is something with the software?
Please help.
Was it discharged until it turned off or left more then a few weeks in a very low charge state?
Auto shutoff is about 5-6% of battery capacity.
If allowed to sit until it self discharges below 1% the battery's microprocessor will permanently disable the output to prevent a possible runaway thermal event from charging a depolarized LI cell(s).

Does it mean really permanently, without any possibility of get it back?
One more thing: maybe i "pressed" the buttons randomly in my pocket. Is it possible that in an unlucky situation i got into the recovery mode and pressed something away in recovery menu?
Even if discharge to the 6% cutoff you have at least a few weeks in cool temps until permanent auto shutdown.
It is permanent. If disassembled you could bypass the controller and attempt to charge.
Once the cell voltage reaches the controller threshold (if it takes a charge) it would function as before. Generally this is impractical to do.
If the cell has completely dipolarize it may not charge and will simply overheat with a potential thermal runaway if not manually disconnected.
Inspect port for debris, clean if needed.
Try a -known- good charger/wall socket and cable.
Normally phones will take a charge regardless of their power on/off state.
Otherwise the port, battery or the internal phone power control circuit may have failed.
A cable, charger, port failure are the most common causes though.
Best to use a 3 foot long cable; longer ones can cause charging issues.

Yesterday with a third charger everything was fine. And this charger was fine, last time i used it two weeks ago. I tried to charge in my car now - the same cycling of starting to charge.
Okay, so i keep trying to charge, if you don't have better ideas.
But why does not it go into recovery mode? Maybe i could inspect the things more in recovery mode.
Thank you very much for your detailed answers.
If the battery is nearly fully discharged ie >5-6% and not recieving enough current or voltage from the cable, it will not power up even to its boot menu.

But it should start to charge without cycling, and show the charging animation, right?
Edit #1: Ah, you mean, IF enough current. And if three different charger and cable was not enough for it, then probably the connector damaged. But i don't know how and why.
Edit #2: No, you mean this for booting up. But charging should start normally without the cycling.

Your first concern is getting the battery to at least 60%
That's why you use a known good wall socket, cable and charger; a process of elimination.
I've had 2 bad power cables in a row before; more bad cables, etc. doesn't help.
For the boot issues someone here will hopefully recognize your problem if it persists.

Yes, i threw out a bad cable last week. But these 3 cables were good, there is not a big chance that all of them get wrong suddenly and at the same time, i think. I would be happy, because this would be the most easy solution for my problem.
In fastboot the red/green LED is dark, even if the cable is plugged in. Is this LED controlled directly also by the charging controller? Or does not the dark LED show anything, because it controlled by software, what does not run now, while the charging still work?
Or maybe both of charging start cycling and fastboot are use power of battery, while they don't charging it, so power is only getting lower? (Although you said the opposite, as phone is charging, not matter of the power state.)
Could be a bad batch if all are the same brand.
That's why you use a >known< good cable etc.
Don't have that phone so can't say how it behaves.
If it's below 5% power it won't do anything except maybe try to boot maybe not even that. Plus each attempt drains the battery more towards that critical 1% auto disable in the Li pack.
Killing the battery won't help your cause...

Thank you very much for your help.
Is it possible to turn off the charging screen, charging vibration, screen turning on from fastboot mode? Maybe flash something on or similar?
Because then it won't use the slowly chagring power.
So the screen is active abnormally when it's charging?
Is it stuck in a boot loop?
I know zero about rooting and firmware flashing.
Eventually someone here with that knowledge will step up... be patient.

1. I plug the cable in.
2. It recognize there is power, so vibrates a littlebit, then starts to charge OR starts to start to charge - it would be in important thing to know which.
3. It shows the big battery icon at the center of the screen.
4. It notices its boot loader is unlocked, so it warns me - i can pause the phone for one minute in this step.
5. It shows the big battery icon at the center of the screen for a second.
6. But i think it feels its battery is too low, so it turns itself off, even from the charging process.
2. Then it feels the power again, so the cycle starts again and again...
In step 2., if i would know it is already charging itself, then i played with it, i pause every time for a minute, and everytime the battery gets a little more power. Because every vibrate and starting charging take a littlebit power from the battery i think.
So, for example, in every unpaused charge cycle (about 10 seconds) it gets 5 mAh, but uses 7mAh from the battery, then it get worse and worse. But if i pause it for a minute, it gets 30mAh, uses 7mAh, then every minute it gets 23mAh more, so this game eventually worths.
But, if in step 2. it does not start to charge itself, just later, after the "unlocked" text, then playing with this does not help, worse, take the battery lower and lower.
But: if i could disable the charging screen and the vibration, then it won't use the power just for showing to me it charges. And maybe the screen is the one who use the power and makes the controller feel low power from battery/cable.
Or, maybe, charging is already disabled, so no matter what i do, it does not help, and the only solution is to take apart and charge the battery directly.
I just put

Okay i try to be patient.
Good news!
This gets the voltage of the battery:
Code:
fastboot getvar battery-voltage
It says it's 4,32 V. If i remember right, this is around a fully charged battery. So probably it charged up when i left in Fastboot state for some hours. And the cycle/loop meant not that it cannot charge, but rather it does not need to charge.
Bad news!
Then what the heck is with my phone?
Summary:
1. My phone is fully charged.
2. It does not boot into normal.
3. It does not boot into recovery, nor by hardware keys, nor by command from fastboot. I tried to flash TWRP, RedWolf and the original recovery too.
4. Fastboot mode works normally.
Believe it or not...
The solution was very stupid.
I cleaned the phone inside, especially the bottom part. Around the connectors, lot of dirt and drying moisture got in. Just enough for - probably - some short circuit.
I don't know why was it okay for fastboot mode, and not okay for recovery and normal boot.
Blackhawk, Thank you soooooo much for your help and your time. I learned a lot from you now.
Excellent.
Guess it was getting mixed signals...
