so strange, i think this is not a fault of battery, because lithium polymer battery is really long lasting, have you connect your x1 to computer, please connect your x1 to charger and wait about 1 hour. but maybe it's the fault of mini usb port, can you sync your x1 before it happen? in your case, bring it up to guarantee service is the best solution, what did you do before the device turn off?
Leave it on the charger, it could take about 15 - 20 minutes to start charging if the battery completely died.
i used a wall charger, and a computer charger, still no luck...i wasnt doing anything, i was playing a game and shut the game off started browsing through the fone, and it just shut off after a few battery low warning sounds. but the red light goes on after a wall charger, but nothing when i try to turn it on, it doesnt turn on, and when i unplug it to try to turn the phone on, the side lights flash red...i have no idea whats goin on but i got the phone today and its pissing me off already i spent 680 on the phone for a peice of crap...

ah, you should keep it in the wall chager a bit longer, and don't use the computer charge at this time, when the battery complete die, you should keep it charge about 10 minutes before you can start it, don't worry, when you can see the flash light turn red, it's charging, wait a few minutes more, it's will work, just forget about it, go somewhere, when you comeback, push the power button:d

was had same problem.just leave it charged.i leave it charged into usb drive, and it needs 5h before he turn on.battery was completely dead, like probably you have too.just leave it charged throught the night.
Charge some time and then remove battery cover and try to reset. as u mentioned lights are flashing when u r trying to switch on so just reset.
The X1 of my colleague had the same problem and he had the battery replaced by the vendor, no questions asked as it was dead after only 2 days...

Hi, I got similar problem and I called the support guys.
They advised me to remove the battery and charge the phone for 30 min and charged with the battery for 1.5 hour.
He claimed is some 'internal battery' stuffs.
Anyway I tried and it works.
In addition, I charged the battery when the level hits a minimum of 20%.
So far so good
Good luck.

That Solution worked for me as well. I was in Germany with some navigation software to find my destination address. Than suddenly my phone died, I thought. So I was stuck somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

I bought my Orange M3100 about 60 days ago and it has been working well until today. Last night I plugged it in to get charged and this morning I noticed that my alarm didn't go off. When I looked at the phone I saw that the charge light on the phone was red; I had never seen it red befor. When I tried to turn on the phone....Nothing, I tried to do a soft reset, hard reset, remove the battery and the sim card put them all back in....still nothing.
I tried hooking it up to the computer, car charger, wall charger and still nothing. The only time i get anything is when i plug it into power and even then the only thing i get is a red LED light at the top of the phone.
Does anybody have any ideas as to how to fix it??
I really appreciate any help as I paid $575 for this phone 2 months ago.
Thanks,
David

There have been other instances of this problem. I had it once and it eventually came back after lots of fiddling. The last thing I did was to leave the battery out for half an hour - whether it was this that corrected fault I don't know. The issue ssems to be around the battery or circuit that monitors battery. I've not heard a definitive solution other that time!!
Edit: Also not unique to Hermes - seen this on several other phones PDA or otherwise.
Mike
Thanks for responding. I will try that now and let you know if it worked.
**Keeping my fingures crossed**
This happened to a wizard. really frustrating. I just had to exchange. But my m3100 ha sissues charging. sometimes when I plug it in it will behave like it is not plugged in. I fiddle with the plug and wiggle it and nothihng. let it sit and then on comes the charge light...but then some times it goes out. really wonky and scary cause I too paide 650 for my hermes and can't ecahnge it with my provider
Well I waited only 30 min and that didn't work...I will try 2 hours and hope it fixes the problem....

Darn!!
Curiously had this exact issue with a cheap office mobile a few weeks ago. Nothing would work. As it was chaep I took it apart- nothing loose or such like, put it back together and worked straight off. Not that I'm suggesting you try that!
I still think it will come good but what a frustrating wait. One post I saw was from someone whose TyTN never charged from the day he got it. How's your warranty/guarantee situation?
Mike
Well I am in the US and I bought it from a guy in the UK. I have sent him an email but didn't get a response. I am not sure if Orange in the UK will honor the warranty. As I said it is only 60 days old.
It is very weird. I think I will go to my local Cingular store and try a new battery, maybe that will help. I would rather it be a battery issue than something with the phone itself.

Sounds like a good idea. (guy in the UK - not a scotsman I hope!!)
Check this link. I know he's talking about car charger but the bit about having charger plugged in whilst soft re-setting might be interesting. Second last post page one:

EDIT Just tried having mine plugged into charger and removed battery. Light instantly goes red. Suggests your problem most likely battery and not device. Might be worth trying also taking battery in and out whilst connected to charger.
Mike
Mike - Thank you for your help in this issue and the suggestions....looks like we are getting closer to a solution.
I don't have my wall charger here at work but i connected it to the PC USB cable while the battery was OUT, then I poped the battery in and the red light changed to Amber to indicate it is charging. The phone powered up after a soft reset. The battery shows 0% charge even though it was plugged in all of last night. It now seems to be charging, I will wait to see if the battery holds the charge or not.
Now I don't know if the problem is with the battery, charger, or phone
I guess I will be able to narrow it down in a few hours and see if the battery holds a charge.

Brilliant!!!
Sounds good. so the secret here maybe, taking battery out and in whilst connected to charger or usb?
I'm confident it will hold charge and things will be fine as mine is.
Like I said earlier it takes time and in the end it works fine again, BUT what precisely caused it to work again so we can help others? Because like me you've tried quite a few things.
Mike
I just hope that this will not be a regular issue.
What finally worked was:
1) Remove battery
2) Connect phone to charger or USB (USB in my case)
3) Insert the battery while phone is connected to charger
4) Red light should turn Amber
5) Soft Reset
In the 20 minutes or so that it has been charging the battery went from 0% to 10%

That sounds positive. Well if my experience is anything to go by I've only had it once in 4-5 months.
With your permission I think this may be worth a spot on the Wiki. I'd be happy to use your points above and also Cieplowski's points which appear similar but have a couple of other observations, and put these up as potential answers to this not uncommon issue.
I would not do this until over the weekend just to see how you get on, though I have every confidence.
Mike
I think putting it on the wiki would be an excellent idea.
Right now it is at 70% charge so things are looking good....
I will post back on Monday and let you know how the weekend went
Thanks again,
Dave
I was running Fresh 2.0d for about 2 days and everything was working fine.
I was in the middle of testing if bambuser stream app was any good and it just...kind of died.
The battery was at 0% basically but I had it plugged in to the comp. The phone's charge light it turning on but the phone wont power on...
Help?
Don't panic. It is just "shot" as I call it. Needs time to charge and cool down. I would recommend plugging it into a wall charger is possiable. Pull the battery out first though and pop it back in. Then put it on the charger for 15 mins. I promise it will come right back on (I have this problem when tethering for days on end LOL)
Yeah I was hoping I'd get a response like this... cause the charge is functioning... its just not turning on
But yeah it WAS at 0% so its kind of stupid to make a topic like this.
HAHA Well I understand the worries. When this 1st happened to me, My heart sank and I died inside xD. I could have swore that my company busted me tethering or something and turned off my phone LOL I didn't know.
Can't live without tethering
There's actually a warning from HTC out there somewhere that says if your battery is below 15% then you shouldn't try charging via USB. But yea as others said I would get it plugged in to a while and be patient. It'll come back to life.
Lol, this just happened to me today too, was testing out the new aloewishus rom, and while booting it went blank, then just... stayed blank. Took batery out, put back in, it'd vibrate then... blank.. Luckily i had a back up, fully charged batery, popped it in and viola! works again, I was super freaked out for a minute.

Yeah I'll charge and check it out in the morning. Gotta get up in 5 hours...
this happens to me all the time. all you have to do is unplug the cable from the phone, push the power button and plug it back in.

Flipz is correct, and I had this happen to me before, even the car charger wouldn't help, I had to wait until I got home and plug it in the wall charger and *poof* it turned on within five minutes of charging (BTW: when it did boot back up the battery was drained 92%)

USB ports can't put out as much current as the wall charger can, so it will charge MUCH slower via USB. If you're running any power hungry apps, it's entirely possible that USB won't be able to keep up and your battery will go dead even though it's plugged in.
In fact, I've noticed on a couple of CPU intensive games even the wall charger just barely "keeps up" (meaning the battery doesn't drain, but it also doesn't gain any significant charge while I'm playing them).
Hello there everybody! Just now, I had a phone call, which I hadn't been aware of the battery condition. The phone ended up dying. Now, what happen is I'll connect it to the charger and power it on. Right when it loads the main screen after a minute, it dies immediately. I have now had any success with random attempts. Can I have some advice?
Try charging it with USB.
If this doesn't work too, try it with some 3sec shocks with a 9V battery directly to the phone's battery.
my advice to you is plug it in...wait until the orange light on the phone is on...then u can have a beer...come back in 10 and that lil charge should be enough for u to power it up, it can continue to charge while its on...better yet, to be safe....let it charge for a few hours before u have it on..
as you boot the phone...in that state, they phone doesn't charge...and it uses mainly the battery...after the boot loading...thats when your charge take over...happened to me n i ended up getting a new battery for a vintage phone...

use CLEAR TEMP app, thats remove erros for charge, =).
I use USB port from my DVD player! previously not charged the device, after use the clear temp finally was solution! good look!
I just took my atrix out of my pocket and its turned off itself, everytime i try to turn it on, the LED light turns green and then goes off. nothing, black screen!
Try pulling the battery out. that should fix it.
I am having this same problem, I've taken the battery out multiple times and tried to do resets but nothing happens. It stays off and only the LED blinks green when I press the power button.

What build are you running? Did you just do the update?
Plug to wall charger.
Same thing happened to me the other day. It's probably because your battery is drained. Plug into a wall charger and let it charge for at least 30 minutes.
Haha thank you guys. I had it plugged into my laptop all night like I do every night to charge. I guess it didnt work. Plugged it into the wall and the screen popped right on. Thanks again!

First of all, your reply has no useful information whatsoever, second, when the device works just fine for month while plugged in into computer then one morning it doesn't wake up, what do you expect people do? And why in the world would it matter for a good built phone that charges through USB matter if it's plugged in into computer or a wall charger? - it's nonsense...
In fact, there are many other phones that even if the battery dead it would work when plugged in into computer, even removing battery wouldn't shut it down.
In Atrix case if battery died you have to find a wall charger, then wait 30 minutes? seriously? - well done, Motorola, well done!

It's not nonsense. USB can only provide 500mA of current, wall chargers pretty much can double or triple that. That's why it takes ages to charge any phone over USB compared to a wall charger.
First of all, why are you digging up this relic of a thread? The comment you're responding to is from 4 months ago.
Second of all, @CaelanT is right, sometimes people panic unnecessarily. It happens. And his comment does offer something useful, it's a reminder that sometimes it can be the simplest of things that will resolve your issue.
Third of all, @turl1 is correct about the mA output, that's just common sense, though some newer computers are capable of 1Amp of output.
Have a nice day.

well in my case i had a full battery
it didnt even take me 20 secons for it to pop right up....
what happen was that one battery was basically dead... put it in n nothing, put in the full battery n nothing...
so put in fill battery n pop it in the wall socket n wwollah.. pops right up..
ANOTHER THING... I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND CHARGING FROM A COMPUTER!
was charging mine since day n battery was at 100 n withing 2 hrs it was literally dead n my battery is brand new....
so ye, basically goto train it again...
and as much as possible...USE UR ORIGINAL CHARGER !!!
I was changing the frequency of my video card and the screen went blank and I had to reset my computer. After resetting my computer I looked at my phone (which had been plugged in and charging to my computer) and it was off. Sounds like for whatever reason, your battery may be completely dead. Maybe something weird happened when the computer reset...I'm not sure. Do you get a charging led when you plug the phone into the wall (A/C) charger? The USB from the computer isn't strong enough to charge the phone when the battery is completely dead, so you need to plug into the wall. I would charge it up for a while, and then try to turn it on again. If you don't get a charging led at all when you plug it in, I would try a battery that is known to be charged up if you have access to one. Good luck.
It also wouldn't hurt to try doing a battery pull.

It was dead when I first plugged it into my computer and then it started charging. I plugged it into the wall and it still wasn't turning on and wasn't getting a charging LED. I left it on the wall for about 15 minutes and nothing still, right now I have my battery in the freezer. I read somewhere putting your battery in your freezer could fix it or it could be completely wrong.

Take it out of the freezer, leave the phone alone for about an hour then but the battery in and plug it up. When the led light comes on, don't turn the phone on just let it charge. This has happened to me a few times and I thought I screwed something up but I did what I just told you to do and when the led light came on I let it sit and charge and then turned it on in the morning. I think the battery discharged somehow (guess), good luck.

Yea, I'd put it back in the phone and plug it back in. Let it sit for a while, an hour or two. If you don't get an led in that amount of time, you probably won't get one. You can take your battery to sprint and they should be able to boost the battery and bring it back to life.
