60 Day old Orange M3100 DEAD - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I bought my Orange M3100 about 60 days ago and it has been working well until today. Last night I plugged it in to get charged and this morning I noticed that my alarm didn't go off. When I looked at the phone I saw that the charge light on the phone was red; I had never seen it red befor. When I tried to turn on the phone....Nothing, I tried to do a soft reset, hard reset, remove the battery and the sim card put them all back in....still nothing.
I tried hooking it up to the computer, car charger, wall charger and still nothing. The only time i get anything is when i plug it into power and even then the only thing i get is a red LED light at the top of the phone.
Does anybody have any ideas as to how to fix it??
I really appreciate any help as I paid $575 for this phone 2 months ago.
Thanks,
David

There have been other instances of this problem. I had it once and it eventually came back after lots of fiddling. The last thing I did was to leave the battery out for half an hour - whether it was this that corrected fault I don't know. The issue ssems to be around the battery or circuit that monitors battery. I've not heard a definitive solution other that time!!
Edit: Also not unique to Hermes - seen this on several other phones PDA or otherwise.
Mike

Thanks for responding. I will try that now and let you know if it worked.
**Keeping my fingures crossed**

This happened to a wizard. really frustrating. I just had to exchange. But my m3100 ha sissues charging. sometimes when I plug it in it will behave like it is not plugged in. I fiddle with the plug and wiggle it and nothihng. let it sit and then on comes the charge light...but then some times it goes out. really wonky and scary cause I too paide 650 for my hermes and can't ecahnge it with my provider

Well I waited only 30 min and that didn't work...I will try 2 hours and hope it fixes the problem....

Darn!!
Curiously had this exact issue with a cheap office mobile a few weeks ago. Nothing would work. As it was chaep I took it apart- nothing loose or such like, put it back together and worked straight off. Not that I'm suggesting you try that!
I still think it will come good but what a frustrating wait. One post I saw was from someone whose TyTN never charged from the day he got it. How's your warranty/guarantee situation?
Mike

Well I am in the US and I bought it from a guy in the UK. I have sent him an email but didn't get a response. I am not sure if Orange in the UK will honor the warranty. As I said it is only 60 days old.
It is very weird. I think I will go to my local Cingular store and try a new battery, maybe that will help. I would rather it be a battery issue than something with the phone itself.

Sounds like a good idea. (guy in the UK - not a scotsman I hope!!)
Check this link. I know he's talking about car charger but the bit about having charger plugged in whilst soft re-setting might be interesting. Second last post page one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=277742&highlight=reset
EDIT Just tried having mine plugged into charger and removed battery. Light instantly goes red. Suggests your problem most likely battery and not device. Might be worth trying also taking battery in and out whilst connected to charger.
Mike

Mike - Thank you for your help in this issue and the suggestions....looks like we are getting closer to a solution.
I don't have my wall charger here at work but i connected it to the PC USB cable while the battery was OUT, then I poped the battery in and the red light changed to Amber to indicate it is charging. The phone powered up after a soft reset. The battery shows 0% charge even though it was plugged in all of last night. It now seems to be charging, I will wait to see if the battery holds the charge or not.
Now I don't know if the problem is with the battery, charger, or phone
I guess I will be able to narrow it down in a few hours and see if the battery holds a charge.

Brilliant!!!
Sounds good. so the secret here maybe, taking battery out and in whilst connected to charger or usb?
I'm confident it will hold charge and things will be fine as mine is.
Like I said earlier it takes time and in the end it works fine again, BUT what precisely caused it to work again so we can help others? Because like me you've tried quite a few things.
Mike

I just hope that this will not be a regular issue.
What finally worked was:
1) Remove battery
2) Connect phone to charger or USB (USB in my case)
3) Insert the battery while phone is connected to charger
4) Red light should turn Amber
5) Soft Reset
In the 20 minutes or so that it has been charging the battery went from 0% to 10%

That sounds positive. Well if my experience is anything to go by I've only had it once in 4-5 months.
With your permission I think this may be worth a spot on the Wiki. I'd be happy to use your points above and also Cieplowski's points which appear similar but have a couple of other observations, and put these up as potential answers to this not uncommon issue.
I would not do this until over the weekend just to see how you get on, though I have every confidence.
Mike

I think putting it on the wiki would be an excellent idea.
Right now it is at 70% charge so things are looking good....
I will post back on Monday and let you know how the weekend went
Thanks again,
Dave

My is Wizard Dead. Please help

I got a used wizard today,it is a few weeks old I also got a cradle with it.
I pluged in the cradle to the USB port and the charger to power, after playing with it for 1-2 hours I placed the wizard on the cradle to charge and after a few mins i noticed that it was over heating. I removed it from the cradle right away and noticed that the battery was droping 1% every minute or so. After it was down to 27% i removed the charger and left only the usb connection and placed the wizard on the cradle again. it was charging fine, when it was up to 90% removed it from the cradle and again was droping fast.
When it was down to around 25-30% of the battery I did a soft reset and since then I can never get it to start again also the red charging light does not show.
What the heck is wrong with it? I also get a light burning smell from the bottom of the wizard where the connector is located.
Any help?
I need your lights guys.
Don't like the sound of the light burning smell, that sounds like an electrical fault. It looks like your battery has died and the wizard battery setup is well known to do this. You need to plug it into the official mains charger (not the usb one) as this has an output of 1A, enough to kick start the wizard battery into life and start the charging. You need to wait a short while though before the light comes on. If this fails try to get a new battery and try that. Any more light burning smells and it needs to go back to the supplier.
I would suggest that you send it back to replace/repair. The rapid dropping of the battery power suggest that it is using power somewhere (illegally). I've heard cases of battery caught on fire, etc. and I won't suggest you to use it anymore until you sort out the 'burning' smell.
First of all thanks for your replys.
I pluged the charger on it and the red charging light came on after a while.
charged for over 6 hours and its still red? I think after been charged should change to green? right?
anyways after all that still doesnt want to turn on. I got it to start a couple of times but only to the point that shows the splash screen with the rom numbers and then it turns back off.
Should I give it a smash across the room on the wall? done that with some other things and worked just kiding.
Forgot to add that up to the point when i did the soft reset the device was working fine except the charge drop. Soft reset was done while it was working ( turned on)..... if thats any help.

That ain't gonna do jack sh1t to it. If it can't start to get into bootloader, it can't flash....and it's not a flash issue.
Usually the red light means power but not charging - happens to my qtek 9100 when I let it get too flat and I have to remove and insert the battery while the mains adaptor is attached - others have to 'jump start' the battery by directly connecting to a PSU - I wouldn't do this with yours.
From what you have said it sounds like a short somewhere. Any signs of water damage? Warranty? What Wizard do you have and what country are you in?
Richard
I got the wiza 200 O2 xda mini S from a guy in UK from ebay. The idiot sold me a cradle for it with an adaptor that says 12V on it (Like an idiot that I am i just noticed that) but then again how am I supposed to think that he gave me an adaptor that its not made for it when it says on the back of it "for Imate - Kjam". Do you guys think thats what burned the **** out of the unit ?
dont forget that some times turns on shows the ROMS numbers and turns off.
No water damage... I think its on warranty... I live in Greece.
Might not be the cradle - it could be it steps down internally to 5v. Use a meter and check what it outputs to the phone. Warranty with XDA's are 2 years to the *original* purchaser. As they are only supplied with an airtime agreement then that isn't you.
Richard
have you tried changing batteries to a new one? Seriously, thats the easiest thing you could do right now and you could actually get results.
Ok this is what I did.
Removed the baterry from the device,
got a 12V 1 Amp power supply that I had lying around and give it a few shots connecting it to the battery giving it an electro shock.
(If you're going to try this be very carefull.<<<< DONT LEAVE the power supply connected to the battery>>>> just give it a few shots 1 second on and off.
That was it.
It started working, device turned on and now its charging (I think) yellow light is on.
I'm going to leave it on for a few hours and see what happens.
Wish me good luck. I'll let you know soon.
ok... this is what happend.
Battery is drained and its not charging due to a blown fust on the main board.
I open the phone and placed and solder a little wire over the fuse.
Still does not charge. ^%$#%$#$^%$*
Before I replaced the fuse or should i say short it the yellow light would come on for a few min and then red again. Now when I charge the battery with another external power supply the pda comes on for a few mins and then dies again. ( no charging light whatsoever).
Does anyone know where to get a mainboard for it and about how much it costs?
Asking for help again.

Hey man, sorry to hear about that.
The best you can do is to claim your money from ebay.
You probably killed it when you pluged in the 12V PSU. That's 230% of the normal Volts! Otherwise sell it for parts.
I'm in the process of claiming the money back from the IDIOT that sold it to me.
Lets see if that part of Ebay works as good.

Not a good idea IMO as now the blame is on you as previously he may have been able to get warranty service from the original vendor.
Richard
I did ask.
He is not the original buyer.
what was I suposed to do.... track back 2-3 buyers to find the original... send it to him so he can have it repaired? Anyway it was out of warranty because of the burned fuse that says that some other charger was used with it.
I had a similar thing happen but fortunately not as bad as yours. Twice now my battery has mysteriously drained completely. The last time when I tried to turn the unit on, it flashed the boot screen for a couple of seconds then poof, no more juice. When I plugged it into the USB port, nothing, no lights, no charge, no recognition from Activesync, I thought the unit was fried. I use Tmobile and got to admit they did send me a replacement fairly quickly. Before I packed up my unit I thought maybe I should plug it in using the wall charger and presto, it came on and is working fine. I have no idea what causes this but do know that if the battery is completely discharged the USB port can not over come this to put a charge on.
Same thing happened to me, kind of strange though. The charge was perhaps 70% to the best of my knowledge. I flashed it with Mr. Clean ROM and booted it up.. it came in fine into WM5, then it started the installation of the 3 progs or whatever comes with Mr. Clean.. after the second finished the unit just died *poff*. Screen blank, no responce to power buttons or any other buttons for that matter.
I've tried taking out the battery for different intervals of time, no luck. I've tried using the AC charger, no luck. No lights, sounds, telepathy or matrix ****.. it just lies there like a dummy phone.. hmm what to do. Bought it from a guy in UK (im in sweden) on eBay, don't think I will have much luck there.. even though it's brand new...
Any thouhgts?
I have had this problem - I bought a replacement battery and all is now fine. Another thread in this group states that the battery cannot charge without the OS up - so if the battery is completely discharged then it is impossible to charge through the phone. The only solution seems to be somehow to charge the battery directly - as appears to have been done earlier in this thread.
Chris
p.s. if anyone knows of another way to do it I'd be interested to hear as I'd like to revive my old battery and keep it as a spare

8125 died, now is acting strange. Red light shows charging, but isnt.?

2 days ago i had my cingular 8125 plugged into a charger . when i woke up it was off and dead, still plugged in?
now when i plug it in (to the stock charger) the red light comes on, but if i take the battery out, it stays on. if the battery is in, it is on. but i cant turn it on. ive left it for 15 hours now, and still nothing
even tried another battery.
when i first put the other battery in it turned on, was booting, but then died. probably cuz the battery was dead. but i had it plugged in as soon as i turned it on.
now the same thing happens.
any ideas?
i also thought i smelled something burnt. like if you have ever had a laptop that had a bad a/c connector and would heat up a bit, or even smoke!
dont know if it was my imagination or what?
thanks in advance

T mobile MDA shows RED LED
that is strange that you post this today, because I just received T-mobile MDA unit from 3bay that has a similar problem.
-The phone does not turn on when I press the power button.
-It does not respond to a soft reset or a hard reset.
-With the battery in, I connect the AC charger to the phone and for about 1-3 seconds the charging LED color is RED. THe LED turns off and I can not get the same result if I reconnect the AC charger.
The only visible sign of life this MDA unit has is:
-with the battery out and the AC charger connected, when the USB is removed to the point where it is not connected to the MDA, the charging LED light flashes red for a split second and the screen flashes white for a split second as well. [I hope this is a sign that there's still life in this MDA, but i'm thinking my unit is truly a brick..]
From all the websites I've searched, this does not seem to be an issue, although for me it is a scary one! Anybody that can help would be much appreciated because I want a working MDA not a dead one
EDIT: It turns out my non-booting MDA was due to a faulty vibrator and flashlight MDA part. After removing these two pieces that are connected to the back cover of the MDA housing, the MDA booted up with no problem.

I'm in exactly the same position - left phone on charge overnight two days ago and in the morning it was completely dead. I have managed to get it to power on for about 2-3 seconds on one or two occasions but now it won't do a thing
Not sure if this will help, but have you tried to push that soft reset button that you have to to push with your stylus when it is plugged in?
Sounds stupid, but my power button is completely dead and I thats how I have to start mine up. I also have to pop out the SD card to get the screen to come out of sleep mode!
I might not work, but hey...worth a try.
Well, I eventually got back up and running. Turns out the battery was completely dead. I used the 9v battery trick and then used my USB charger to get the battery fully charged and all is well.
This leads me to query how do I now charge my phone when I don't have access to a PC? I was using a standard AC wall charger and the phone showed that it was charging but due to the fact that the display stays lit whilst on external power, this eventually killed the battery as the charge indicator appeared to be false.
*as posted verbatim in another thread*
WHAT IS THIS 9 VOLT TRICK YOU SPEAK OF?!?
funny...i'm having the same problem with 2, what were perfectly fine, wizards.
which is what brought me to this forum post.
These two devices were turned off and sat in my desk for months as they were not needed. They were perfectly good, successfully unlocked and upgraded from the advice/steps/tools provided here (thanks!). They were my primary personal and work devices until i was given the option to try a few iPAQs.
Now that I want to go back NEITHER device will boot. On the original chargers (both wall and usb) both devices will display the red light as shown in the pic above, will not boot normally, or via the 2 or 3 button methods common for these devices. The batteries do not get warm, which tells me that they are not getting current...which makes NO sense if i'm using 4 different stock charging options (2 wall and 2 usb) in different locations. One expect some variable would work to eliminate some oddity, but nothing is working.
something odd is going here. how can 2 perfectly good devices and charges suddenly crapout? I could really believe it's the battery, but one is grand spankin new (only used for a month)! Both have the main board die? Both not recognizable on any computer?
Is it possible that the backup battery is causing this? Can it me charged same as the standard if its drained? I know i'm grasping at straws here, but this odd a coincidence.
FOUND FIX
okay..this was too simple.
for some reason the USB will not provide enough"juice" to pop these out of their sleep.
I have been using this great little charging system made by good old Radio Shack that is a single plug with different adapters for all different devices...i've been using it for my iPAQ's, Blackjacks, BB's, ect. SO as a last resort i went and got the CORRECT adapter (as there are many mini usb adapters available) and SHAZAM!!! they boot right up!
don't ask me why the stock wall chargers will not work, but these RS iGo systems are the trick!
i'm going to link to the other similar issue in hopes any other folks having the same issue can benefit from this.

Wizard suddenly died yesterday

Hello,
I've a Wizard that is approximately 20 months old. Yesterday, before I went to bed, I set the alarm clock on the Wizard, put it next to bed and went to sleep.
This morning upon waking up I tried to switch on the Wizard but it couldn't. Firstly, I thought the battery was discharged, so I tried charging through USB on my computer -- it wouldn't charge or start. Then, I tried charging on the default charger -- again nothing.
I tried removing battery and soft reset - nothing. It's really weird, yesterday I left it working, no-one has touched it and today it's totally non-responsive.
Any ideas what might be wrong/how can I bring it back to life? Would a hard-reset help?
Regards,
1. how much charge was in the battery last night?
2. is your battery 20 months old also?
3. do you have a spare battery to try?
4. do you have many applications, music etc. on the device?

Unfortunately I can't remember, however I have an alarm which sounds periodically when the battery is below 20%, so I'm guessing I had at least 20 percent. Could be wrong, of course, but most likely above 20%.

The Wizard came with a 64MB card I think. I had around 10MB free space. 3-4 applications, 2-3 mp3s. Nothing unusual.
Same thing (sort of) happened to mine after about 187 months. I was using mine and it hung up. I hit the reset button and that was the end of that. Even when plugged in it does nothing. Tried a hard reset... nothing. Soft reset.... nothing. Dead. Zip. Nadda.
Good news? Replaced it with a Kaiser!

Mine died too when i was flashing...
Leave the phone in the original charger for a while and see if it picks up...sometimes it comes back to life by doing that...
If that doesnt work, try a new battery, you might be lucky...
A somewhat strange development occurred today:
Today (3 days after it stopping working) I randomly tried to switch the Wizard on and it indeed switched on. It showed that it had 0% battery. It didn't even show 0%, basically the battery charge graph was empty - no number, no fill, nothing.
While it was on charge the charge light was on (while it was 'broken' the charge light was off when I tried to charge). So I left it to charge and when I checked back in 15 minutes it was back to being 'dead'. Can't be started, no charge light, nada.
I don't really know what's going on, however I'm highly suspicious of the battery. Currently, I'm periodically trying to switch it on again so I can backup my data.
Any ideas what might be wrong with it, do you think it's the battery or is it more serious?
Regards,
The battery won't charge if it gets to low.
There is a thread about using a 9V battery to get the battery up to a level so it will charge. I don't have the link for it, try searching for it or maybe someone else will reply.
You might have a bad battery. I bought a new battery because I didn't think I was getting the life that I should. I tried using the old battery about a month after when I had to run out and my main was low. About 15 minuets later my phone started shutting of and rebooting. That was the end of that battery.
Yep, it's possible. If the battery is to empty, you can't charge the phone. It is stupid but it's just like that. You also can't power on the phone without a battery with the charger connected.
Yesterday I received my wizard and I had to revive my battery too because it was completely empty. I used a self made 5V power supply and after 2 minutes charging I placed the battery in the wizard and was able to charge and boot with the charger connected.
Here's the 9v battery trick, connect the + from the 9v battery to the + of the phones battery and the - to the -, hold there for only 10 seconds then remove the connection for 10 seconds and then repeat the process about 8 to 10 times and then put the battery back in the phone and connect it to the wall charger to fully charge.
Thanks for the advice. I'm going to do the jump-start thing.
However, I've hard time determining which is the - and which is the + pin layout on the battery, since the label is not correctly applied.
As far as I can see the - is the one at the far right, however I'm not sure which is the + pin.
Can someone help me with this, please?

When you take out the battery and put it back in that direction ,turn and face up the connector side fasing you,the first connector from the rightside of the battery is the ' + ' and the last is ' - ' towards the leftside.Be careful while connecting and try not to touch other connectors. Don't keep the connections longer then 10 seconds interval.
good luck
Xeno1,
My MDA battery also died and went below re-chargeable state. Your trick to use 9volt battery to jump-start it worked just fine for me. I connnected for about 20 seconds (2x times) and plugged it back into phone and connected USB cable to it and my nice yellow charging light came back on. After about 30 mins, I could use the phone.
THANKS FOR THE GREAT TIP!!!
easier fix, take a standard usb cable. rip off the smaller end with a wire cutter, expose the red and black wire. take out your battery, than connect the negative(black) wire to the negative end of the battery, than the red wire to the positive end of the battery, leave it in there for exactly 3-5 minutes for jump start. after that turn your wizard on, and quickly shove it inside a new usb cable. or the wall charger.
note:
if not done correctly, you may damage your wizard or the battery. if theres a power overload or your power goes out. your wizard will burn out!
feedback is greatly appreciated.
p.s after that my battery seem to be weak, charge barely holds for 12 hours. after 12-14 hours it will die out. so i suggest buying a new battery after couple of days.
Thanks guys! Vario died yesterday and wouldn't turn on or charge.
Tried the 9v battery recommended here and it worked! I was a little unsure which end was - and which was + but using the advise above, got it right. Wasn't too worried as found and ordered a replacement from ebay this morning for £7.
The first connector on the right hand side, nearest the end of the battery is the + the one more towards the middle and further away from its corresponding end is -, or at least, thats what worked for me.
Thanks again!
Experiencing the same issues after I set aside my Mini S as it was experiencing problems with regards to its screen alignment. Wasn't able to charge it during that time I kept in the drawer unused - due to frustration as I can't use it anymore. After downloading a guide to disassmble it so I could remedy the problem I found out that it won't power up anymore even with a new battery.
Well, haven't tried the jumpstart thing and the original battery was disposed of already to try the jumpstart idea. Could it be the internal battery is causing the problems? I opened my unit up and tested the internal battery for power and it registers a measly .2V left. Will use the 9V thing to power it up (as been doing that before on watch batteries that are hard to find replacements) before I do it on the main battery. Here's hoping it works as the Mini S has been quite useful for me until now.
UPDATE: I charged the internal battery and it now reads 1+ V and the external battery at 3+ V. No luck yet though as the unit still won't show any life. Any suggestions?
Vivanov, I know it's been a few years now, but did you end up fixing your problem? If so, how?

Battery Won't Charge

hey, i got the leo just over two weeks ago, and swapped my orange sim for my o2 sim (my phone is unlocked) yesterday night. This morning the phone did not charge at all and i still cannot get it to charge, i have tried via the wall plug and plugging into my PC. At the top of the phone there is a green LED flash and then an orange one.
Any ideas as to why it wont charge, im still under guarentee so if its any problems with the battery etc. i am sure i can get it replaced, Thanks in advance.
i've tried taking out the SIM then turned it on and off, that didn't work. I then tried the same but with the SanDisk card. Still no hope.
Hi, sorry to here about your troubles but it is nothing I haven't seen before. Hope this helps.

Try to release all the energy of the battery, then plug the usb cable to computer, us your PC to charge it.If it dosen't work, congrats then, you are in the same situation as me,
-order a new battery replacement see if it's sloved, if not, send it to HTC for repair.
btw, just curious, are you in Canada as well...?
hi i have the same problem solution is simple you just bend middle pin that connect battery bend it down a little and it should works
Thanks mmpl, I am gonna try that, I wish that may solve my battery drain problem as well.
nah im not Canadian, from the UK. The place i bought it from said i could send it to them and they can check it, if they can't fix it they'll send a new one to me
WOW! amazingly, i had no hope in it. But i did play around with the middle pin just a slight tap backwards and then *forced* the usb into my phone and computer, it switched on switched off i unplugged my phone is did a white screen flash, but it is now holding the solid orange LED of life! i can't understand what on earth was wrong, and it could still not charge but the LED seems to be correct!
Unfortunately i am now experiencing this with a replacement battery from China. It flashes green and orange when plugged in and won't charge. Original battery works normal. Well... back to seller.
Problem Fixed!
Thanks mmpl. The middle prong on the HD2 that connects the battery was pointing slightly up from horizontal (and it looks different than the two prongs and seems a little limp/loose); I pushed it down a little so it's just slightly down from horizontal; put the battery in and that fixed it! Thank you for posting the solution!!!
My symptoms were that the battery indicator icon in the title bar would switch to full bars when plugged in (did not show the plug icon in the title bar as it should have), but when I click on the battery indicator icon the sub screen (showing the battery) would show the actual state of the battery, e.g., 30% with one bar.
I've been also having freeze-up problems when dialing out, thereby requiring a re-boot (take the battery out or push the reset pin) once or twice every day (I'm on the phone a lot however), and maybe the daily removal/re-install of the battery weakened the prong.

Hi, I also have purchased a cheap replacement battery from China as a backup for my Samsung i500. I cannot charge this battery in the phone! I get a pop window when I connect my charging cable that states; "battery is not connected"! The stock original Samsung OEM battery charges in the phone just fine.
I wonder what the problem is?

Thanks mmpl, I had not even considered the pin until I read your post.
I know this is the wrong thread for xperia ray, but I just wanted to say that this is something that could happen to absolutely every phone. The middle pin on my ray was stuck in, so far in that it would not connect properly to the battery. By getting a sewing needle in and tinkering it back out it now connects and charges properly.
Also, I hear that if you have flashed your phone you may need to re-calibrate it. If your phone is rooted, you can do this with the aptly named app called BatteryCalibration. Worth considering I think.

HD2 not charging, but is recognized by computer

My TMOUS HD2 won't charge when plugged in to any source. I've tried multiple cables and have tried plugging it into the computer as well as into the wall and with the car charger. Nothing as far as a charge, but the light flashes on the LED and when plugged into the computer, it is recognized and can sync.
Also, the "do not charge the battery when connected to a PC" is NOT selected.
Is there a registry setting or something that may have been changed? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I just pulled out the battery and restarted the phone and it charged, but when I unplug it and then plug it back in, it won't charge again. I tried pulling the battery out again and it didn't work.
I'm truly baffled.
Hope you guys are not using an aftermarket battery. If you are, then most likely that is the culprit.
sounds defective to me, maybe a bad battery, or a dodgy circuit in the charge control circuits.speak to your vendor, try another battery.
(id try hard reset first, though)
Mine did this last night. Wouldn't charge of the wall charger or PC. What I did was take the battery out, hold the power button down for 20 seconds, put battery back in, plugged it onto the wall charger and it started to work again.

Well crap. When I get home I'll throw in a stock battery and see if that changes things.
go to
settings->system->power->battery and uncheck "when phone is on, do not charge battery, when connected to a PC"
it should help

for those having this issue you might want to check out the contact points on the phone for the battery.
I had this issue and it would out of no where not charge but it would say the battery is 100% right away and the LED light would blink orange and green. But when you unplugged it it would go right back to the actual charge amount that was on it before.
I noticed when I put in the battery that the middle contact was poking out between the battery and the phone and then i pushed it in and it started charging.

my wife's phone had the same problem with the middle contact. Poor design on htc's part. A hole through the back cover to get to the reset button would be really nice.
HTC HD2 USB Charging problem
EXCELLENT!!!
I have been zapped @ this damn problem for like the last 10 days.
it WAS the middle connector. so stupid. feels great to have charging back!

Amazing how so many of us can have the same problem, that's TRUE design fault right there. You described my problem exactly, Battery Displaying as 100% when charging, LED flashed Orange and Green and would discharge instead of charging. It was indeed my middle contact, thanks a ton.
I had the same issue, and SOLUTION here worked, but another issue I have is that phone is taking close to 4 hours to completely charge. Anyone out there had the same issue?
