My TMOUS HD2 won't charge when plugged in to any source. I've tried multiple cables and have tried plugging it into the computer as well as into the wall and with the car charger. Nothing as far as a charge, but the light flashes on the LED and when plugged into the computer, it is recognized and can sync.
Also, the "do not charge the battery when connected to a PC" is NOT selected.
Is there a registry setting or something that may have been changed? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I just pulled out the battery and restarted the phone and it charged, but when I unplug it and then plug it back in, it won't charge again. I tried pulling the battery out again and it didn't work.
I'm truly baffled.
Hope you guys are not using an aftermarket battery. If you are, then most likely that is the culprit.
sounds defective to me, maybe a bad battery, or a dodgy circuit in the charge control circuits.speak to your vendor, try another battery.
(id try hard reset first, though)
Mine did this last night. Wouldn't charge of the wall charger or PC. What I did was take the battery out, hold the power button down for 20 seconds, put battery back in, plugged it onto the wall charger and it started to work again.

Well crap. When I get home I'll throw in a stock battery and see if that changes things.
go to
settings->system->power->battery and uncheck "when phone is on, do not charge battery, when connected to a PC"
it should help

for those having this issue you might want to check out the contact points on the phone for the battery.
I had this issue and it would out of no where not charge but it would say the battery is 100% right away and the LED light would blink orange and green. But when you unplugged it it would go right back to the actual charge amount that was on it before.
I noticed when I put in the battery that the middle contact was poking out between the battery and the phone and then i pushed it in and it started charging.

my wife's phone had the same problem with the middle contact. Poor design on htc's part. A hole through the back cover to get to the reset button would be really nice.

Amazing how so many of us can have the same problem, that's TRUE design fault right there. You described my problem exactly, Battery Displaying as 100% when charging, LED flashed Orange and Green and would discharge instead of charging. It was indeed my middle contact, thanks a ton.
I had the same issue, and SOLUTION here worked, but another issue I have is that phone is taking close to 4 hours to completely charge. Anyone out there had the same issue?

I bought my Orange M3100 about 60 days ago and it has been working well until today. Last night I plugged it in to get charged and this morning I noticed that my alarm didn't go off. When I looked at the phone I saw that the charge light on the phone was red; I had never seen it red befor. When I tried to turn on the phone....Nothing, I tried to do a soft reset, hard reset, remove the battery and the sim card put them all back in....still nothing.
I tried hooking it up to the computer, car charger, wall charger and still nothing. The only time i get anything is when i plug it into power and even then the only thing i get is a red LED light at the top of the phone.
Does anybody have any ideas as to how to fix it??
I really appreciate any help as I paid $575 for this phone 2 months ago.
Thanks,
David

There have been other instances of this problem. I had it once and it eventually came back after lots of fiddling. The last thing I did was to leave the battery out for half an hour - whether it was this that corrected fault I don't know. The issue ssems to be around the battery or circuit that monitors battery. I've not heard a definitive solution other that time!!
Edit: Also not unique to Hermes - seen this on several other phones PDA or otherwise.
Mike
Thanks for responding. I will try that now and let you know if it worked.
**Keeping my fingures crossed**
This happened to a wizard. really frustrating. I just had to exchange. But my m3100 ha sissues charging. sometimes when I plug it in it will behave like it is not plugged in. I fiddle with the plug and wiggle it and nothihng. let it sit and then on comes the charge light...but then some times it goes out. really wonky and scary cause I too paide 650 for my hermes and can't ecahnge it with my provider
Well I waited only 30 min and that didn't work...I will try 2 hours and hope it fixes the problem....

Curiously had this exact issue with a cheap office mobile a few weeks ago. Nothing would work. As it was chaep I took it apart- nothing loose or such like, put it back together and worked straight off. Not that I'm suggesting you try that!
I still think it will come good but what a frustrating wait. One post I saw was from someone whose TyTN never charged from the day he got it. How's your warranty/guarantee situation?
Mike
Well I am in the US and I bought it from a guy in the UK. I have sent him an email but didn't get a response. I am not sure if Orange in the UK will honor the warranty. As I said it is only 60 days old.
It is very weird. I think I will go to my local Cingular store and try a new battery, maybe that will help. I would rather it be a battery issue than something with the phone itself.

Check this link. I know he's talking about car charger but the bit about having charger plugged in whilst soft re-setting might be interesting. Second last post page one:

EDIT Just tried having mine plugged into charger and removed battery. Light instantly goes red. Suggests your problem most likely battery and not device. Might be worth trying also taking battery in and out whilst connected to charger.
Mike
Mike - Thank you for your help in this issue and the suggestions....looks like we are getting closer to a solution.
I don't have my wall charger here at work but i connected it to the PC USB cable while the battery was OUT, then I poped the battery in and the red light changed to Amber to indicate it is charging. The phone powered up after a soft reset. The battery shows 0% charge even though it was plugged in all of last night. It now seems to be charging, I will wait to see if the battery holds the charge or not.
Now I don't know if the problem is with the battery, charger, or phone
I guess I will be able to narrow it down in a few hours and see if the battery holds a charge.

Sounds good. so the secret here maybe, taking battery out and in whilst connected to charger or usb?
I'm confident it will hold charge and things will be fine as mine is.
Like I said earlier it takes time and in the end it works fine again, BUT what precisely caused it to work again so we can help others? Because like me you've tried quite a few things.
Mike
I just hope that this will not be a regular issue.
What finally worked was:
1) Remove battery
2) Connect phone to charger or USB (USB in my case)
3) Insert the battery while phone is connected to charger
4) Red light should turn Amber
5) Soft Reset
In the 20 minutes or so that it has been charging the battery went from 0% to 10%

That sounds positive. Well if my experience is anything to go by I've only had it once in 4-5 months.
With your permission I think this may be worth a spot on the Wiki. I'd be happy to use your points above and also Cieplowski's points which appear similar but have a couple of other observations, and put these up as potential answers to this not uncommon issue.
I would not do this until over the weekend just to see how you get on, though I have every confidence.

I think putting it on the wiki would be an excellent idea.
Right now it is at 70% charge so things are looking good....

so strange, i think this is not a fault of battery, because lithium polymer battery is really long lasting, have you connect your x1 to computer, please connect your x1 to charger and wait about 1 hour. but maybe it's the fault of mini usb port, can you sync your x1 before it happen? in your case, bring it up to guarantee service is the best solution, what did you do before the device turn off?
Leave it on the charger, it could take about 15 - 20 minutes to start charging if the battery completely died.
i used a wall charger, and a computer charger, still no luck...i wasnt doing anything, i was playing a game and shut the game off started browsing through the fone, and it just shut off after a few battery low warning sounds. but the red light goes on after a wall charger, but nothing when i try to turn it on, it doesnt turn on, and when i unplug it to try to turn the phone on, the side lights flash red...i have no idea whats goin on but i got the phone today and its pissing me off already i spent 680 on the phone for a peice of crap...

ah, you should keep it in the wall chager a bit longer, and don't use the computer charge at this time, when the battery complete die, you should keep it charge about 10 minutes before you can start it, don't worry, when you can see the flash light turn red, it's charging, wait a few minutes more, it's will work, just forget about it, go somewhere, when you comeback, push the power button:d

Hi, I got similar problem and I called the support guys.
They advised me to remove the battery and charge the phone for 30 min and charged with the battery for 1.5 hour.
He claimed is some 'internal battery' stuffs.
Anyway I tried and it works.
In addition, I charged the battery when the level hits a minimum of 20%.
So far so good
Good luck.

Try another charger, i had two chargers go bad on me.
i ran the battery down while i was talking on it.
and now it just does that.. im very depressed about it lol!
let it charge for a while until it has enough power to complete a boot cycle.
i tried this, it sat overngiht for 7 hours and stil ldoes the same thing..
Tried pulling the battery and putting it back in after a minute or two?
absolutely man i've tried everything i've known..
Just leave it plugged in with the blinking amber. It should charge up enough to turn solid amber within 15 minutes.
that's the thing i left it plugged u for 7 hours and still flashing amber
wow... don't know what to tell you. call sprint about that
Have you tried booting w/o the battery into recovery and resetting the battery stats?
I would definitely try what Biggz said above. I do recall hearing once that the type of battery the Hero uses isn't meant to be completely drained, and that's why it shuts off before it runs completely down to 0. You may have messed up your battery or something. I think the easiest thing to do would be to call Sprint.
Sounds like a problem ipods have lol..when the battery completely drains it,it sometimes doesnt charge up..n if it does it takes forever....try a different battery.if that dont work, take it to sprint..thats weird.keep us posted on what they tell u.....most likely the battery overheated.id probably take the battery out meanwhile i take it to sprint, just in case the battery leaks; it wont mess up the phone.
Yeah, Lithium-Ion batteries aren't meant to be deep cycled (completly draining them and then trying to charge them). It can shorten the batteries lifespan, or kill it altogether.

battery issue
I've run into this issue like 4 times. Its one of my biggest issues w the hero. I go to bed w a low battery warning plug it in then i wake up to a paper weight.
Has anyone found a good answer? my phone charged 7hrs and I've been pulling the battery on off plug unplug for about 2 hrs now. I've already ordered a new battery but that wont help me today.
Anyone find a fix? I'm up for any and all suggestions: eek:
As title says, it wont charge. Tried using a PC and the regular charger. The notification LED is just flashing orange, then green and so on.
Bit of a SNES solution, but have you tried blowing in the USB socket, and blowing in the connector? If there is some fluff covering one of the terminals that will stop it charging.
Doesnt help. When I am connecting the charger, the notifiction LED lights up orange. And 10-20 seconds later it starts flashig green, orange, green, orange and so on.
If I start the phone, it says 0% battery, and if I set it to charge, it just shows 99%.

Consider how you have treated the battery when recharging.
It certainly sounds like a dead battery.
Have you allowed it to discharge on a regular basis?

I usually charge it at below 20%, but the in the last week, the battery has been very bad for some reason. So I would always have to charge it at 40-50% if I was going out or something, so it would last.

I take it that you have tried a wall charger.
Their output its higher than USB, but, if they don't work then you will have to change the battery.
HD2 charging problem
Sounds familiar to me!
I got a second battery (1500mAh), which won't charge when the phone is turned ON. The second I plug it in to a USB port I states 100% charged although the battery is at an arbitratry level. The weird thing is when the phone is turned OFF, the battery will charge normally !
I had the same blinking sequence during a road trip, when the HD2 was charging on the GPS stand, under direct sun.
When refreshed, the HD2 resumed charging.
For me it seems to be the impossibility of recharging - dead battery or hot battery (failsafe).
I had a similar problem..
When I connected the micro usb to the computer or the charger..it showed that my battery is filled..and thats it..so when i took it off my phone was dead..
And little later i found out that the trouble was in this lil metal-kinda things(dont kno how to call it) that connect the battery to the phone..and after i done the "battery off" reset(i was a total noob) several times one of those metal-like things was bent that it didnt touch the battery..then i carefully re-put the battery so its all connected..and it worked!

I can't believe I'm the 18th post and no one has suggested this.
Go to the battery settings...the easiest way is to click on the taskbar and then click on battery. Make sure that the check box is NOT checked next to "When phone is on, do not charge the battery......"
If that doesn't help you it may be useful to someone else. This was also a problem for me when I first got the HD2.

Well...I'm very sorry...you can rest assured that I won't bother you again.
Oh...one other thing...my response was to the OP...not to you.
Hello all,
I left my phone charging over night as usual. When i woke up i was surprised it had only 32%. I plugged the charger back in, but the phone wouldn't charge. I restarted the phone and when it booted up it had 60%
After some standby time it showed 50% .. really confusing. I pulled the battery out and when i plugged it back in and "before" turning it on. The green battery icon came on flashing with yellow triangle and red thermostat (see pic).
It won't boot up until i plugged in the charger. I left charge until 100% and tried to restart. I got the same icon again and had to plug the charger in.
Anyone know the meaning of this? Battery app showing temp as 36C after boot up. Now it shows 34C. I did attempt battery stat wipe too.
Please share with me your thoughts.
EDIT: I returned mine for a replacement. After that, my nephew admitted that he spilled something right over the usb.
I had a similar problem. When the icon comes up plugged in, yank the battery out and shove it back in.
If that doesn't work, when plugged in take the battery out, unplug the phone, put the battery back in, and then plug it in.
It worked for me!

OK guys, it came back again. The issue is not resolved. Perhaps a battery failure?
I waited for my battery to completely run out. Then charged it all the way up. Then a simple battery pull out and in takes it down to around 80% ?!
Strange stuff here.

it seems i am the only one with this issue :/
Sounds like the battery just isn't being calibrated correctly.
Let it drain fully and then take it out and put it back in. Chances are it'll turn back on. Let it drain again until it shuts off and then charge fully while the phone is off.

Probably your USB got polluted or bended.
i also think it is a usb issue. i updated the original post. By the way before i returned it for a replacement i tried using a qtip and "contact cleaner" and sprayed some on the usb. After 30 mins i was able to charge normally before it was acting up again.
Bottom line: clean your usb.
Cheers a bunch for your replies! Gonna clean my usb again & carefully "bend" it down a bit. I'll post the results later
Hahaha I laughed so hard in a bus after reading your edit. What a cute nephew
I feel sorry for you though
Tried everything, including a couple of factory resets/wipes. Sent it to the service center yesterday
For me the main idea from using SGS2 for cpl of weeks before selling this crap:
'Do NOT buy korean smartphones !!!'

I cannot disagree more. This is the most fantastic phone I've ever had. Feel free to check my signature. I've had worse. Haha. Much worse. This phone has only lagged twice in the months I've had it and I had to do a battery pull once. I've had my iPhone 4 crash more times than this phone.

I've had charging problems with my SGS2 as well. All of a sudden it started switching tap&talk on and off. Turned very warm and drained the battery juice.
When I attached the charger, it didn't show signs of recognizing that it was attached. I tried to switch it off, and on again with cable connected. Then it started charging, but if I unplugged and tried again it failed again.
So I had to send my beloved SGS2 for service. Now heading on to two weeks without it, i'm growing desperate from having to spend the time with my old Samsung Spica.
Have a look at the charge port problem thread in general. Few of us have had this problem for various reasons.

i also have a kind of similar problem on my S2, suddenly it stopped charging, when i plug it in i tries to start up but isn't able to & then restarts.
i get the normal battery sign when you plug it in after the battery completely dies (no thermometer), nor does the phone or battery gets hot. is there any solution or should i just take it to a service centre? BTW my phone is rooted & loaded with a custom ROM.
