Trying to see if there's something in common with those who are experiencing lock ups.
My crashes arent frequently but it has happened a few times
Seem like I am having some crashing, though it seems to be dependent on using data service with little or no 3G reception. 16gb Model.
My units is not crashing all the time but it does it at least once a day which is bad. It seems to be when trying to switch between using cell network and WiFi. Would be nice if it was fixable with firmware.
Mine hasn't crashed so far. I tried downloading Harvest Game and it went fine over wifi. Tried heavy browsing with music in bgrnd and that too was fine. Only issue was the Bluetooth not communicating to the car properly. Its been a week now.
ive crashed only once, which was in the newsroom app, i was also updating marketplace one time and instead of crashing it would just take me back to the start menu..
mine has been crashing quite a bit...16 gig less than 14 gig available...
In the first 36 hrs I had the phone, I spent at least half of it in the PC connect screen. The phone would not boot...well..sometimes. Then it would boot by itself...reboot rather.
I called MS, ZUNE support. They helped walked me through some basic steps. Apparently I was touching the side buttons, camera, volume down, while powering up. Not sure if this was true, but dam they could reproduce the PC connect everytime. Since that call, I was more careful about powering up and have had no problems since.
I do get a lag in IE on WiFi, sometimes, not often, but daily. I found a web page that always sends me back to the desktop.
But crashing.....I have to be honest and admit that most of the crashes...if not all, in the first 36 hrs, probably were user errors. Now, I'm not a novice. I own more smartphones than most people on this forum. And if the phone buttons are that sensitive, then something is not right. However, since I've grown accustomed to the button layout and sensitivity, I've not had a single malfunction.
I've also recognized that certain apps are prone to causing, umm....unexpected results. Maybe instead of voting on crashes...we should keep a list of app suspects....
I got 2 units.
The first one had the Wifi issue and was constantly crashing.
The second one the Wifi is good, and it never crashed.
Maybe is related?
It seems to me that my device crashes a lot when my Wifi is on

Same here, also 16GB model. Every crash I've had has either been related to the Marketplace, or it's happened when my rickety 3G connection had poor signal.
This sucks. Mine is crashing EVERYTIME I try to dl something related to xbox live (games) over wifi. Should I have this exchanged???
Crashes a lot. Sometimes back to back so after doing numerous battery pulls, I had mine switched out. Its always an app though that crashes it and the screen becomes unresponsive. Phone goes to home screen and the people hub is grayed out. Its not an os specific crash cuz my hd7 doesn't do that.
So far phone is mostly stable, crashes have been only with wifi enabled, and only had 1 other crash without wifi on. Been running for the last 3 days, no crash at all.
I have had my phone almost a week and have been noticing the crashing a bit more frequent. It always seems like when I am in the MP or using an app that requires retrieving data from the cloud.
I got mine since November... never saw it crashing
Only once it would not start...I had to remove the batteries and put them back on.
I have a feeling it goes with having it in your pocket for a long time.
Sometimes (happened twice in 3 month) the screen locks but it has something to do with static electricity, or rain (I switched on and off and it worked).
I got it upgraded to 32 GB by swapping the micro SD card.
Took a while to boot.... (I think it reformats the card) worked like a charm!
Fankly, it is the sexiest piece of hardware I've owned in a long time.
Much more stable than any phone I ever owned.
I've had my 16GB since the 28th. I have not had a single crash, freeze or hang in the 5 days I have been using it. OS performance wise, it has pretty much been perfect.
I am probably not a typical owner though. I was an existing T-Mo customer on the EM+ plan. I didn't have to call or activate the DVP with T-Mo. I just took the SIM out of my flip phone and put it into my DVP and was up and running. Since I am on EM+ and I paid full price for the phone, I am also not required to have a data plan and I haven't gotten around to adding one yet. Everything I have done is solely over Wifi. I think the fact that I don't have a data plan is going to wind up being the explanation for my lack of problems. I don't know if it is a Microsoft or Dell problem, but 3G and WiFi just don't seem to get along well on the DVP.
Even though I have been limited to Wifi, I have been using this thing constantly trying to get everything setup. I haven't had any Marketplace issues at all. I've been using the Facebook, Twitter and Netflix apps quite a bit. No Xbox Live stuff or YouTube app though. I installed the LastPass app and tested almost all of 50+ logins without any issues. All in all, I think I have given my DVP a fairly tough stress test and I honestly have to say it has passed with pretty high marks.
That's not to say my DVP is perfect though. I have had some bugs. The biggest for me is the cellular antenna. I get a mediocre phone signal in my apartment. My flip phone would hover between 2 and 3 bars out of 5. I get much worse reception on the DVP. I get a ton of No Service notices, especially when I pick it up. But it isn't just a death grip issue. I'll sit the phone on the arm of my couch and watch it fluctuate between No Service and 1 or 2 bars. If I want to make a call on the DVP, I have to take laps around my apartment trying to find a decent signal. Not fun. Outside of the dead zone that live in the reception is fine. If I get 5 bars, it stays at 5 bars no matter how I hold it. I also don't care for the SMS texting app. When I attempt to send a text while I have a low signal, I don't get a confirmation either way after I hit send. I sent 3 texts in a row out on Thursday afternoon and only 1 got through. It would have been nice to see a "Message Sent" or Message Failed" confirmation either way. I also can't import Contacts from my Sim. I see the box for it on my People Settings page, but it is greyed out. Very annoying. And I know it's a known issue with Microsoft, but the not being able to connect to a WiFi with a hidden SSID is just ridiculous.
I really haven't made up my mind yet on whether I am keeping my DVP. On the one hand, I really like WP7 and it seems like I got lucky and got one of the problem free DVP's. But I'm also not sure if I can live with the bad reception at home. I guess I'll just have to wait and see if anything interesting is announced at CES.
16GB and it locked up all of the time... It would just freeze there with whatever it was on the screen. That happened until I turned Wifi off. Now it's great. The only time that it crashed with wifi off was when I was running Beezz and it just hard locked for some reason.
So I would like to have Wifi... 3G coverage is spotty at best where I live. What are the chances of a firmware fix, ya think? I'm almost tempted to send it back to Dell... Even though I love it to death. Gosh that keyboard is amazing...
I sure hope it gets sorted out...
Can someone list the symptoms of crashing? Is it just screen freeze or apps won't launch when touched or something different? I had case y'day where except people, email and phone, none of the other apps would launch. When launched it would just return to the home screen right away. Then a battery pull fixed it. That was the first i had the issue since receiving the phone on 12/23. I have time till end of this week to decide on return or replacement.

Mike, have you received any calls on it yet? My experience has been that you can make outgoing calls all you want, but you need to tell T-Mo the new IMEI number to receive calls. That could also be why you haven't gotten a notification about the text messages.
When I called T-Mo to get the phone set up, they also told me about the available insurance plans (from $5.99/mo that covers the phone completely-loss/theft/damage/etc, to less than $2 for minimal coverage). I was on an out-of-contract plan too and had to pick up the phone at full price. My plan was phone+data, no messaging, so I only pay for texting. Everything done over WiFi or 3G has been great.
As for crashes, I think it's locked up 3 times now that required removing the battery and putting it back in. Those all happened within the first few days of owning it, but not since. (got it on the 23rd)
Hey all, I just got my GN3, still am using the GN2 though BC Verizon can't get the phone to activate to my phone number? Actually Verizon says it show the GN3 activated, but l have no service/phone/data/anything at all. They tried 5 different GN3's and 13 different SIM cards before they gave up trying to activate. My number works/activates just fine on my GN2. So they gave me a temporary number yesterday to see if it was a problem with my particular phone number and sure enough, my GN3 activated on the temp number. When I switched back to my reg # it wouldn't connect...again. Then I went to work which was about 10 miles away and the GN3 activated on my reg#. I called my wife, made a few texts, surfed the net, etc... for about 2 hours, when I got about 8 miles from home, I lost all connection again... What gives here? It's the weirdest problem I've ever seen. I'm home now, and tried activating it again with no luck. Any thoughts??
I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum for this thread, if so please move??
Mine wouldn't activate for the first 20-30 minutes or so. I removed the sim card, reinstalled then went on the website and updated the Note 3 in formation for my line. Had keep refreshing my lines info on the Web page about 2 more times and hit accept before it Finally activated. Took about 5 additional minutes after removing the sim. Not sure if that will help, but hope you get it working.

Well seeing as how I got mine on 10OCT2013 at 10 am and it still hasn't activated, I think it's not going to at this point. I may sadly have to go back to my GN2 and return the GN3 altogehter. :crying:
Mine seemed stuck on activation, ended up using my old sim card, activated almost instantly.
Update: just got off phone with Big Red and they said that for some reason when I'm on my "home" towers, my activation has trouble letting go of the GN2?? Maybe it really is hard to say good-bye...
They are working on it now...
I've always had an issue activating my old number on a new phone with a new SIM.... I've always just switched my old SIM card in and it's worked perfectly lol
Make sure the SIM card has been linked correctly to your phone number. The easiest way is to look on the VZW paperwork that came with the phone and make sure it's your phone nbr and not another person's on your plan.
I am having more or less the same issue.
To make a long story short, whenever I leave the "home" cell tower that the phone was activated on, it will not connect to any kind of network whatsoever. It just shows a circle with a line through it, and at the same time it reboots itself, randomly and frequently, even when it isn't being touched. All of these problems go away as soon as I get back home to that cell tower. I wonder if the original poster activated his phone at work the first time, and that's why it only works when he returns to work?
I have tried 3 different SIMS to fix this: the one that came in the GN3, the one from my old Galaxy Nexus, and a brand new one from a Verizon store. I have done half a dozen factory data restores.
My next step is to try an in-store swap. A local store around here first refused to hold a phone for me to swap, then when I got there (or rather when a family member got there), we were told that there was a master ticket for this issue and there was a freeze on doing any exchanges until Samsung released a "fix". My subsequent conversations with Verizon tech support have confirmed that the whole story about a master ticket and not doing exchanges was a complete lie. The stores are actually required to uphold the 14 day worry free guarantee no matter what. Obviously this store didn't want to give up a phone to me that they could sell to someone else. They weren't just being unhelpful, they were running interference on resolving my problem for their own greed.
I had an activation problem in store yesterday when swapping my note 2 for note 3. The sales rep entered the sim card info that was on the sticker on the box for the sim card that comes with the phone.
It all ended up causing major activation / service connectivity issues because the sim card info on the box did Not match the actual sim card number for the sim pre-installed on the phone.
This is apparently an issues for some other people as well. If the sim card in the phone is not reconciled with the info on the box prior to entering the info into Verizon's system.... You will be in for a time consuming headache

Switching your device or SIM will not work. I have now gone through 6 GN3's and almost 20 different SIM cards. It's the towers/service from Verizon. They have noted that this is a problem and are working diligently to fix it...lol Meanwhile, I've returned my GN3 and will wait until they fix this disaster. This rollout is almost as bad as Obamacare...haha

Mine kept trying to activate on the phone and would continually fail.
I thought I had a faulty device and was going to go to the store. Something told me to login to MyVerizon online on my computer [since I kept my old phone off as directed via the on-screen instructions] and poke around and see if there was anything there that might be able to help me.
I clicked on my line, and the Manage My Device link on the left hand side of the screen and ended up being able to complete the activation via the website. Re-booted the phone, and then voila~! Activation complete.
FYI, I was migrating from an iPhone 5 to the GN3.

Yeah I tried that as well. I'm not sure there is anything I haven't tried. I've returned my device and decided to stick with my Note 2. Maybe when Verizon gets their heads on right and fixes this, I'll come back.
Hey all,
I recently bought an (AT&T) LG G2 off eBay, as my iPhone 5S just wasn't cutting it for me.
The day before it came I went into AT&T and asked for a new nano-SIM, it was given to me with no questions asked. The next day, I got it, put the SIM card in, and called to activate it. Everything went fine with customer service, and it activated with no problem, or so I thought.
Everything was looking good, and before I got off the phone with AT&T, I rebooted just to be positive. Once it was back on, I realized in the status bar in the top left it said "Roaming Indicator Off". I told the rep, and he said that was very weird, so we began troubleshooting. Around a half an hour into this, I received a text, I went to go respond to it and when I pressed send it said "No USIM Card". I told him about this as well, so we began troubleshooting both issues.
After about an hour he bumped me up to Android technical support, where I painfully continued with troubleshooting. During all of this I accidentally tried to make a call, and voila, it all went away. The status bar now said "AT&T" and I was able to send texts just fine. I told him about it and just said "That's weird, but awesome!". I rebooted the phone one more time just to make sure, and what do you know, it did it again. The same message came up in my status bar, as well as the inability to send texts.
There was a lot of things tried to fix it, including a master reset, the manual configuration of APN's, and a different text message center address. Trust me when I say, we've done just about everything possible. In fact, the next day he called me back with an LG rep on the line, they too couldn't figure it out.
At first they thought it was a hardware problem, but since making one phone call after a reboot fixes everything, they're leaning toward software. However, there was nothing else they could do.
I guess it isn't really that big of a deal, considering I can just make a call everytime I restart my phone. But I'd really like to get rid of the problem completely.
Thanks for any help you may be able to offer!
-Andrew

You never fixed it? Are you still using your G2, and does it still occur?

Hello All,
Just got my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge today
upon attempting to activate the phone it start I choose a language and then when it begins the Setup Wizard it only gives me the option to make an emergency call or turn off the phone.
When I got my LG G4 Last year in the mail I activated it without issue, I do believe I needed to register the SIM card online but I looked around on Verizon's website and the only thing I could see was Activate a Device, which gave me an error each time.
Something to the effect of this option is not available at this time please try again later, except I tried this from roughly 6 PM until Midnight EST.
Can someone point me in the right direction for actually activating this phone?
Have you tried to take the SIM out and run through the start-up process?

Same thing happened to both my lines. I think it's happening to a lot of people.
I cleared the issue easily by calling the automated Verizon customer service number (from another phone) and telling it I was activating a new device. It will ask you something like "are you activating a device on this line or another line", then you just input the number of the line you're activating. It will then take a few moments on hold, and then prompt you to turn off your old device, blah blah blah, and voila! Problem solved.
The customer service number is 800-837-4966 (at least in Ohio where I live). This took all of about 2 minutes each line I activated. So it's pretty easy and quick. Best of luck.

I had the exact same problem and solution. My S6 was still powered on while I was activating the S7. It's the same number and you can't have two phones activated on the same line. Once I turned my S6 off all was good.
Hey I got it working.
Called (877) 807-4646 to activate a new device since the website was not working.
Looked like nothing happened initially.
Turned off my old LG G4 and Left my S7 Edge on overnight.
Woke up this morning with neither phone working, called Verizon. After rebooting my S7 it started to activate no problem, I do not think the rep actually did anything but I was running late so I just preemptively called.
Yeah forgot to tell you that you should have turned your S7E off before calling. Glad you got it working!

I bought my S7E at Verizon full price. I told her I didn't want to activate the new phone yet and just wanted to take it home and swap sims.
However when I got to my car, I noticed my current G4 was with no service. I guess they scan and activate it prior to even opening up the box. Pretty upset.
So I'm on my 3rd edge from AT&T. My first one lasted until a week ago when the screen went basically dead on me and decided it was time to be a strobe light (Monday 8/22). Next day I go to the only "warranty swap" store in my region, and they give me my 2nd edge. Immediately it prompts for the update so the lady at the store hooks me up to their WiFi to do the update. The phone goes through the update, reboots and installs. YEAH I have a phone! I leave the store, get into my car and connect it to Bluetooth. It reboots. I drove to a convenience store 5 minutes away and it reboots once more while in route, and twice more in the parking lot of the store. After purchasing my beverage, I go back to the AT&T store and tell them what was happening. As I am pulling it out of my purse it reboots again. She takes it and factory resets it. As I am signing into Gmail, it reboots again 2x. She goes to speak to the manager, and states that the phone is DOA. Last S7 Edge they had in the store, I had to have another one overnighted to my house (fees waived thankfully!!) She gives me my "flash dance strobe" phone back and I go home. Next day new (refurbished) device comes. I set it all up and it is working great, flash dance phone is sent back. Fast forward to this past Tuesday evening, I open up the camera app and I hear this buzzing noise. I zoom in and the camera is dancing all over the place like it cannot focus. I reboot. Same thing. I record a video... yep you can hear the buzzing noise on the video. Needless to say my "flash dance" phone is in PA not back at AT&T yet. Last night I unroot, and go back to stock and re-download the essential apps. (PS still buzzing it's obviously a hardware problem). Now I can't get away from the damn "advanced messaging" prompt. So let me stop my story here by two questions.
1) Can I do another warranty swap prior to them receiving my other one back? (As mentioned above it's in PA, I live in CT) I have the USPS receipt.
2) How the heck do I stop this advanced messaging thing? Last time I accepted it, my MMS were totally borked and I had to sign into my AT&T account to turn it off.
I've attached pics and video to demonstrate. I just zoomed in on a post it and you can see how wobbly it is.
Video:

I miss my Nexus
No clue, but root and u firmware mess with the efs and killed my messaging on my 2nd s7 edge(died due to battery issues or something) and i could not send (i could receive) messages. rooted and had to go to the u firmware (from august firmware) back to the july firmware and update again and everything is working great. i think that the image stabilization module in the camera is trying to stabilize it and failing to do so. Im about to re-root myself, so hope you have some luck, i think that the image stabilization issue and buzzing is their fault(you said it was refurbished?)
Yeah the warranty swaps are always refurbished. I'm hoping they'll be able to swap it out today, since the warranty center is an hour from my house but my daughter is cheering closer. I am planning on going after her game.
