First of all, hi to everyone, i am new to the forum.
So i am a new owner of a Nexus 4, i have it for about 2 weeks. It's rev11, came with 4.2.2 out of the box, and it is completely stock and not rooted.
I didn't have any crashes or anything weird to indicate something is wrong with the phone in this time. And 2 days ago, i woke up at 12 instead of 9 i had my alarm, and the phone was not responding to unlock the screen and wake up. After some time pressing the power button it rebooted. So i though something temporary. I searched it here and is something known, sleep of death. I was not charging the phone btw. So i went my day using it again normally, and the next afternoon, i again try to unlock it to check something and see the time and again the same thing. Holding power button turned it on again after some tries. I didn't have to connect charger to reboot it as in some other cases i read, nor my battery percentage was any different or abnormal after the reboot.
But 2 days in a row can't be coincidence. The last app i installed before i noticed it is battery widget reborn.
So my question is, what is causing it? An app bug? I can restore to factory settings and it will stop? An OS bug? So we have to wait for android 4.3 for possible fix? Or a hardware issue? Because if it is hardware, i think i can still send the phone back and get a replacement, but this will leave me without a phone for 2 weeks maybe
Any help on this? From a little search on the forum most of cases seems to be an issue with apps undervolting the cpu while on standby or custom roms and custom kernels, but i am completely stock, and no app is doing anything to my cpu, i haven't enable something like that, and possibly without root even if i wanted it would not be possible.
Had this happen when I bought my phone back in January. It started happening probably mid-Feb and I probed through a ton of the internet and these forums for answers. The only thing I was left with was to call Google customer service and return the phone and replace it with a new one. So far, 2 months and never a SoD.
Provided you grabbed this from the Play Store:
Google customer service was very understanding and set me up with a code to buy a new phone off the Play Store and place the hold on my account. That new phone came in 3 days and I packaged up the old phone and sent it back with the labels Google provided and my account hold was removed in 4 days. They email you all the documents and UPS labels - you just do the rest. Most hassle-free return I have had and I deal with NewEgg RMTs quite often and I thought they were great...

I bought from amazon uk, through a marketplace seller, but brand new. So they can't instantly ship a replacment since it is not officially sold from amazon, but it was fullfiled from amazon, so i can get a refund but i have to send it back and then re-order. This is quite the hassle. But on the thread you posted, i read multiple people saying that even the second or third phone they got back from RMA from Google still does that. So maybe is a software issue instead of hardware? Any other ideas to try before i go through the return and refund route?
Will a factory reset help in any way?
Or if i unlock bootloader, reflash the stock image, is it possible that this will fix anything? I mean is it possible to have a corrupted install of 4.2.2 on my device?

As stated in the other thread, turn off WiFi. If you get a replacement, chances are you will still have the problem. A new thread didn't need to be started for this. You should have posted in the thread referenced.
How i fixed the Nexus 4 SODs
Same issue here with my Nexus 4. When connected to Wifi, with Android 4.3, every two days (more or less) it suffers a SOD.
And this is how I solved it: First, turn Google Play Store auto updates off. Second, install the 'Wake My Android Pro' app from the Play Store and set it to 4 minutes, Auto StartUp and Low Wake (and remember to use the 'back' button to save the preferences). No SODs for a week!
FAiled the first time, rebooted, still sitting on activation screen after about 10 minutes. I turned off old phone prior to attempting activation.
Shouldn't take long. Keep in mind that VZW just started shipping these so if there are any hiccups they could stack up quickly.
I would give them a call.
Hey
Just a question
Can you try posting a screenshot of what you see here?
It would be great to see what this activation screen looks like
Thanks!
I had the same issue. Verizon told me it was because I was coming from a 3g device. I went to the store and they activated it for me. You may be able to call them. I just happen to be near a store.
I keep having random split screen activation, as if I were long-pressing the Recents capacitive button... I've had this occur while the phone was laying on my desk/lap/just sitting in the palm of my hand, not touching anything. Thought it was me, just not used to the curved edge, until I put my phone in a case and still have the issue. My girlfriend doesn't have the issue at all with her S7 Edge, both purchased at the AT&T store on the 11th. I also noticed that her speaker bezel at the top of the phone is flush... mine is raised just a hair... anyone else having these issues? I've factory reset, which seems to have reduced the split screen activating, but it is still happening. I've also tried turning off some of the extra gestures and smart settings, but that didn't help either.
This has happened to me rarely, but it has.. also sometimes when scrolling down a webpage, it will randomly select a whole paragraph like i just long pressed the paragraph to copy text.. possible something caused by samsung using their own proprietary digitizer for the first time
Well, glad I'm not the only one. I'm contemplating returning it as defective....
Does your top speaker stick out at all or is it flush with the screen? I'm sure that has nothing to do with it of coarse... just something I noticed when comparing my Edge to the other one we got when upgrading.

Just downloaded an app from the store called "multi window toggle", works perfectly. No more random split screen. Only problem so far, you have to manually enable it after a restart.
Thanks for the tip! I'll give that toggle app a try and see if it helps!
Honestly, I really wish I could control what apps allow split screen... I think that alone would save me a ton of headache.
experiencing the same thing. hasn't affected my day to day usage in a negative way yet. it's indeed annoying
I really hope this is a software glitch, the thought of paying so much for electronics and having the nagging feeling that the device you got isnt as perfect as others that have been sold just makes me feel uneasy.. i dont want to send it for warranty although from past experience, samsung is very fast and fixing and returning your phone, the longest wait is the two way 2day shipping they provide.. i just want it to be working as intended! Just like you, i feel better that im not the only one, but id feel even better if there were MORE people experiencing this (does that make me a bad person?)
Same issue here
Also happening to me. I know this is the AT&T area, but I have the GS7 from TMobile. So is not just a unique to the AT&T variant. That app that some people has recomended to deactivate the split acreen feature works, but is not a permanent solution. Hope Samsung fix it in a software update... I hope is not a hardware issue.
I went to the T-Mobile store to try to exchange it for another one. Since the issue is hard to prove (it doesn't happen every time), casually, the person that helped me at the store was the manager (who was greeting the customers that came in). After describing the problem to her, she told me that T-Mobile had received an alert in their systems about this issue and that it appears to be a hardware problem. They exchange mine for free even when I had exceeded the 14 day window.
Just got off the phone with samsung and they said, get this, there are no reported issues with this device.. they gave me a ring around, wanted to remotely access my device and couldnt offer a valid reason why they would need to do that.. eventually in the end they refered me to exchange the device at at&t but with "no known issues" and being past the 14 day return time, i have a feeling im in for a huge headache at the at&t store... what a nightmare. Very disappointed in the first samsung phone ive ever purchased.. htc never did me wrong like this...

What to do?
Will there be an update to fix this?
I don't know if i should go and exchange my s7 edge. I can't live with this random multi window for over a year.
But if they will fix it in an update, i dont want to send it to repair, in Denmark it will take over 2 weeks before you get a new one.
I Hope they will fix it in an update
Glad this isn't just me, the split screen popup is really starting to bother me. I also have issues when on a WiFi network, tether my car to the phone, then drive away, my WiFi breaks and I have to restart the phone to get data working. I called Rogers, my carrier in Canada, and they are not aware of it being a hardware/Samsung issue. The tech has heard of the split screen issues but said there is no recall on the device yet and it might be fixed with software. Unless anyone can confirm that replacing their device with a new one fixes this, I just might wait a bit.
split screen activating seems to occur most frequently when I first unlock the device. Other times it just activates randomly.
New update?
I just updated my galaxy s7 edge and it seems like most of the problems are gone. The touch sensitivity has been decreased it seems, the split screen has not activated yet.
It also seems like they turned a bit down for the animations.
I live in denmark, so i have the nordic updates.
Will report back here
New update
Hey guys!
Denmark just got a new update for the s7 and s7 edge called: XXU1APD1.
Hat it for 2 days now, and i have no random split screen activations. Other bugs are gone to!
Just had it happen to my AT&T S7. Phone was on my desk and on the home screen when the split screen activated without me pressing anything. Hopefully it gets fixed with the new XXU1APD1 update.
Had the latest software update two days ago for my S7 Edge, XXU1APD1, in the UK.
No more split screen random activations (I used to get it at least once a day often more).
So far so good.
Now if only AT&T would update us.... I'm glad that it appears to be a software glitch... i just about chucked my phone across the parking lot earlier because of that splitscreen crap... was getting ready to call Samsung this afternoon... I can not live with this on a brand new phone...
AT&T.... update your ****!!!!!!!
Ok. AT&T has actually released an update! Guess I jumped the gun fussing, I'm downloading it currently and will report back tomorrow (4/21) if I no longer have splitscreen issues. I really hope this fixes it!
(only found one thread with this issue, from nov 2015, with zero replies: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/help/wifi-issue-nexus-6p-t3244411)
So, let's go.
Nexus 6P Android N Oct 5th, Build NBD90X here.
Bought on 4/10/2016, one week ago, in Germany, after Pixel announcement (too expensive).
Manufacturing date: 11/17/2015 (bit old, maybe refurbished?)
Behaviour: At first, connects normally to WiFi. Connection stable for a bit, so it is not a reoccuring "it reconnects every 60 seconds and can't hold the connection" thing, it is very different.
In following situations it drops Wifi:
- When screen goes off for more than 1-2 minutes
- when I cast something (YouTube, Twitch) to my Chromecast and the Nexus screen turns off after 60 seconds, the Cast continues, but when I wake up the phone, Youtube or the other apps say connection lost, so I can no longer control the stream. I tap "retry" but it does not work and I have to restart phone, reconnect to Chromecast and stop the cast that way. Super annoying.
- And, not often but happens: even when i scroll through Twitter, it randomly disconnects and reconnects after about 10-20 seconds.
Things I have tried:
- different APs and Networks (home, at work, at a friend's house)
- changed Wifi channel, 2.4, 5ghz, .. basically just tested every setting here at home. since problem occurs also at work and other networks, can't be the cause.
- wiped system cache, nothing
- reset network settings on phone, several times, nothing
- WPS, nothing
- under "Location", advanced, disabled the WiFi and Bluetooth scanning stuff
- switched from "always" to "only when plugged in" at "stay connected to wifi" setting. changed behavior to: not reconnecting to WiFi when woken up. Instead, it finds all networks BUT the one it remembers and should connect to. I have to turn wifi on and off, even that does not help sometimes. then I have to reboot.
- maybe some measures I even forgot about now, but basically everything ever, anywhere, recommended...
- eventually I factory reset the device on sunday, started with "set up as new device" from scratch, wasted another few hours to eventually have the same result.
I used all my data plan because "Android System" downloaded so much in the background in the first night (when it should have been in Wifi of course), have to turn cellular data off now to not pay for extra megabytes (germany..).
so I don't get any updates or push mails anymore because mobile data off and it drops Wifi all the time. this is unbearable.
Same router with my previous Desire HD, LG G3 and Nexus 5X: all with no problems.
My big question is: is this a software issue that will be resolved or do I have a defect device? I need to know fast because I have 14 days return time at my reseller and 7 are gone, 4 of them I tried to fix the problem. The old manufacturing date made me questioning the device in general. So is this software-related and will be fixed or should I RMA my device?
I also posted this on the android forums: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=206311 (look at the very helpful answer by the developer xD ... )
Having the exact same issue since updating to NBD90X last Wednesday. So glad I finally found someone else is having g this issue. Has to be software, right?
I made a new issue report on code.google.com (issue 224971). Please report back if you find a solution, my data plan is wrecked already.
EDIT: Wi-Fi and Bluetooth just powered off while I was browsing XDA in chrome. So it happens randomly, not just when phone is at idle. This is really bad!
the same issue after update NBD90X
Same.

I didn't face this issues. Maybe your device is defective. Return it and buy a new one.

Please add your experience to the code.google.com page listed above (issue 224971) so they can see it's not just one or two people.
So, any news on this issue? If it's only three people in the world, i will return my phone on monday and ask for a replacement. Still in 14days-return-policy timeframe.
Although this looks like a software issue, waaay too few people are reporting that issue to justify keeping the device.
Annoying as f'ck but better safe than sorry. Hopefully the replacement will be of a newer manufacturing date without any issues.
Firstly, this is weird lol, I bought my 6P in August of this year and my manufacturing date is exactly the same as yours.
Though I bought mine from an authorized retailer, I doubt it'd be refurbished, anyway, I did a clean flash of NBD90X and everything is working well for me. No issues whatsoever aside from the slightly crappy battery on Nougat.

Did you clean flash the NBD90X factory image or take an OTA?
Hi,
I got it from a pretty big vendor here in Germany, pretty solid, 6000+ reviews with a 1,5 (1 best, 6 worst) rank at our best price comparison site. Ordered a LG G3 back in 2014 there and a Lenovo Thinkpad for my gf, everything perfect.
No, I got it, it had Marshmallow, then I had to install two security updates before it reached the "preparing for 7.0" update (20mb or sth.), then I got N and then, one day later, D90X appeared.
But I did a factory reset after having the issues.
You think I should try a clean flashing of the NBD90X? I thought I tried everything, but actually doing that didn't come up in my mind.
/edit: Did your packaging come with the papersleeve around the white plastic, where the S/N and the big P logo is printed on etc.? Cause my packaging was missing that. Only the plastic with transparent tape to hold it together. That is actually the only reason why I thought about "refurbished" because everything else looked completely new, no fingerprints, MM 6.0, etc. But it made me wary from the very beginning.
I just did it and wiped again, installed from scratch. Factory Image NBD90X... as clean as it gets.
After going through all the steps and wasting another chunck of time, it took 5 minutes until the first disconnect. While screen was on, while downloading stuff from the Play Store.
I am so annoyed by this phone, can't even tell. Two weeks of troubleshooting, nothing worked.
My connectivity just dropped dramatically. Had been on NBD90X since about 10/11. Our other does not exhibit this problem, both are almost set up the same. I then set mine up exactly like hers and still connected in kilobytes. Project Fi said they would send a refurb and I'm not excited over that. I've got 24 hrs to decide now. If it takes an hour or to to download an update that the other phone can do in a minute I guess mine is a lemon. Doc I just posted several places about this and my troubles started about the same time as yours. Also just installed the factory image and there's no improvement here.
Thanks for your report. Got myself a replacement device 10 days ago, no trouble since then. The old one went back and I got my money back.
Def something wrong with the WiFi chip or whatever.
Loving the phone now, 7.1.1 runs smooth af.

Cool. Glad yours works now. I went ahead and ordered the replacement, I'll scrutinize that refurbished unit when I get it. Being the weekend it won't ship `till Monday. Didn't realize how much I depended on this darn phone until mine quit working right!
Well if it helps just one, I post this.
Our power went out for `bout an hour. Later I was still frustrated with the 6P and started messing with it, damn it was fast again. Went to sites immediately, went to the playstore and tried to get an app that I had given up on getting earlier and ~10Mb was downloaded and installed in 4 or 5 seconds!!
I hadn't even tried using the phone when I was out the last couple of days. That plus the fact that my Asus OnHub was down, it probably lost it's cache. Kept the settings but damn I'm gonna unplug it for a min or two the first of each month now!
Cancelled the replacement..... nothin-to-see-here-move-along........
It started suddenly after a week on the January update, but I downgraded to Dec update and still have the same issues, meaning it's a hardware defect. Already reported this to google. Anyone else?
Had similar issue
I had a similar issue since yesterday. Tried booting into the safe mode to check if any third party app is doing it( If you wanna try that hold the power button then touch and hold the power icon on the screen). If it still stays it is a hardware issue you need to get it repaired. I just gave my phone to Ubreakfixit
Yes it is a hardware issue. Safe mode, factory reset, downgrading the software did not work.
This just happened to me this morning.
what is going on? this literally just happened to me too this morning. I can make calls via whatsapp/facebook etc, but if I try to call anyone it just says "calling" but there's no sound, eventually it cuts off. If someone tries to call me, the phone doesn't ring and I just get the sms saying there's a message in my voicemail. It says I'm on the 4g network, I can send sms messages and wifi works fine. If I have to ship the phone anywhere I'm ****ed, I'll have to buy another phone as a spare :crying:

Looks like I'm one of the lucky ones. I had to go out and soon as I got to the next town a call came in, so I tested making more calls and it worked fine there. Upon returning home the issue returned. I figured it's gotta mean something is up with my provider or the nearby antenna so asked a few friends who live near me and a neighbour. Turns out they all have the same issue. I'll have to wait it out now and see if they fix it. The wierd part is 4g data and sms work fine and I've still got full signal strength or I'd have assumed that right away.

That sounds more plausible than hundreds of Pixels bottom speaker burning out all of a sudden. When the call supposedly comes in does it show on the screen or just go directly to voicemail? That would be the initial test of the speaker. Does it play music, can you hear notifications? Every once in a while that happens to me and then I just try again a mile or so down the road and it connects fine. If you have wifi calling you can try that too.

No, it was the service provider in the end. My whole town had the issue for a couple days. The company (movistar) have fixed it now so I can make calls and recieve them no problem. To say I was relieved is an understatement.
Bottom speaker broke out of nothing
I guess I'm really unlucky, me and my girlfriend got two pixel 4 in black Friday and both of the phones had the same issue, it started having a crackling sound for a few seconds and then the bottom speaker completely died while in a speakerphone call tried a factory reset with no luck, no sounds comes out, my girlfriend had the phone only for a few weeks when that happened, and in my phone happened last week, now we have to figure how to ship the phone back to the US and try to get a refund, since if it breaks again it would be close to impossible for us to ship it back again

Hello everyone
I own a pixel 4 and it has a constant problem.
after operating normally, suddenly for no apparent reason it loses all sounds and vibrations.
also it is not possible to make calls and freezes in various system applications.
sometimes this is solved with a simple restart of the phone, other times a factory reset is necessary and lately it is required to unlock the boot loader to reinstall the factory image and test with which security patch recovers all its functions and returns to function normally.
It started suddenly after a week on the January update
What would be the cause of this failure in the phone?
At first I reported the problem to google and they indicated the same to most of you; restarting the phone or factory reset and how the method worked no longer insisted.
after the February update its operation was normalized, but with the arrival of the May update the same problem returned.
I had to downgrade to the April update, then to the March update and after several attempts it worked again, but a few days later the problem returns and I have to repeat the process.
What arguments should i use to convince google to change the phone or return my money?
I never rooted
Buy the unlocked phone at BHphoto on Black Friday
model G020I
I live in Peru
NOTE: I do not speak English and use the translator.
sorry
I'm on latest Android 11 DP and I noticed that this release removed a lot of bass from the speaker. I think to prevent the clipping and damage of the speaker.
