wifi issues tmobile - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i'm on tmobile g2.
just bought it today, and everyhing looked good until i tried to connect to the home network.
it says i am connected, but i can't do anything that uses data/wifi
i reset the phone, reset the router, upgraded the firmware of the router, took off the firewalls, changed the channel of the router, etc.
didn't help me at all.
could it be that my router is too old? i have D-link DIR-615 hardware - B2 , firmware 2.25.
or is it just because i got the defect phone ?

Try some local public Wi-Fi spot, cafe, restaurant, something.
It will save a lot of tinkering and troubleshooting efforts.

[Q] Wifi network problems

Hello everyone,
Recently I upgraded to the 3.1OS and after that I have been having some problems connecting to wifi networks.
I was at my parents house this weekend for fathers day and tried to connect to the network. Every time I connected it would bring the whole network down. On my tablet it would connect, then the signal would go "out of range" and when I looked at my phone I noticed it was back on 3g. After several attempts I determined it was my tablet that brought down the network.
I had been previously been able to connect using the 3.0 OS.
The network provider is Fios.
My tablet is unrooted
Any suggestions or ideas?
Hi, I am experiencing the same problem with 3.0.1 the wifi connection was working just fine. After I upgraded to 3.1 I am loosing signal, the strenght of the signal is much much lower as it used to be.
What I read in 3.1 they downgraded the wifi driver, maybe this is the reason.

Is it possible to check any logs on your router (if it supports it) and see what exactly happened..
It is not about the router, my PC or my Desire get full strength signal. Even with EEE pad before update to 3.1 I had no wifi drops.
So form my point of view the driver is the issue.
There was some mention of people having issues with the non-NA supported channels like 13 and 14. Are you guys using these?
workaround
While not an answer to your specific problem, you could use the wifi on you phone and then tether your Transformer to it...that way you wouldnt be using up the 3G from your phone , still using the wifi technically..
Just an idea to get around your problem...
Was using channel 11, then I found out a lot of other routers are using 11 also.
So i switched to 9. Helped a little bit, but still not optimal.
Let`s see how it evolves. :-D

Galaxy Note disrupts connection with Wireless router and Desktop computer

Hello
This just started today after 1 day after I bought my Galaxy Note. Sometimes I'm on Wi-Fi on the Note and I'm on my desktop computer, my computer connection to the internet gets disconnected. The WiFi on the phone still works, but I can't visit any websites anymore.
I just received a call and talked for a minute, then my computer connection didn't work for a minute as I tried to load up different websites. Now it's back on. I find this strange. I tried two different routers as well (Cisco and Linksys). Both of them experienced this issue. I tried different ethernet cables as well.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a setting I need to change on the Galaxy Note? I'm new to Android.
I guess the problem is on your router / modem. I haven't heard of a similar problem before.

I have a similar problem on the phone sometimes. WiFi signal will be activated on the phone with full bars, but the phone is still unable to connect to network or visit any websites. Sometimes I get the message 'could not connect to network'. This problem is intermittent but annoying.

Probably best to set a fixed IP address for each device. I find that solves a lot of problems. Sometimes as devices join and leave (like if WiFi goes off) they take each-others IP addresses, and when re-joining the hookup fails.
Sometime I am facing this issue also. Then only I have to reboot ADSL router. Mine is Netgear.

I remember one crazy incident in the past. I had one pre-sample Acer Android phone and randomly some colleague in the same room wouldn't be able to browse in their laptop. After lots of fiddling around, realized that phone was running DHCP service on its own and it was leasing out different IPs to laptops connected to parent wifi router. (So there were two DHCP servers, one in wifi router, another in android phone and laptops connecting to the wifi router were sometimes getting IP issued by the phone).
News to me and i have a lot of devices connected to my router

Galaxy Nexus
Galaxy S2
Desktop PC
Dell Laptop
Macbook Pro
PS3

Wifi will not connect

I just opened my new phone and am trying to get it set up but it will not connect to wifi. It sees all the networks around but it keeps cycling through trying to connect and never gets past the acquiring IP stage. I have tried two different routers and deleted, reentered, and turned the wifi off and on many times. My other phone and all my other devices work just fine on my network. Anyone know of anything else I can try? It was a major hassle to get this phone and I would hate to have to go through a RMA the same day I get it. Thanks
Had the same problem and had to configurate with the inet of sim card. Nexus 4 has some problems with some routers, i couldnt connect my nexus to the router and had to chsnge configuration from router, once connected it was fricking slow. i decided to buy belkin WiFi amplifier and ive connected it to the router. Now it works great, do some research on inet and see if that router is having trouble with n4.
Dont RMA, all have this "issue"

N4 wifi problem, help please

My N4 is no longer able to detect my home network. It detects my neighbor's network and several other networks, although it cannot connect to any other network. When I try to connect to a detected network, it just says "Saved". My home network is working fine and several other devices in the home are connected to it. In fact, my wife's N4 is still connecting with no issues. I have tried rebooting the phone, rebooting the router, telling the phone to forget the network, changing the channel on the router, no success. Running version 4.4.4.
Any thoughts on what might be wrong or ideas for a fix?
Thanks,
b
You haven't inadvertently switched the WiFi frequency from automatic to 5GHz have you? It's just that I had a similar problem and that's what had happened.

Phone not connecting to network after change of router

Hello
We just changed our router from att to Comcast. All the devices at my home, my laptop, my husband laptop, his phone, my tablet all are accessing the new network settings without any problem.
My phone, Samsung note 3, however just does not connect to this network. We changed last Saturday, and until yesterday, I had to reboot my Phone to get it connected. Today even that is not working. I actually soft reset the phone, but that didn't help. Since it is Comcast, I can connect to the free xfinity spots, but the connectivity is very bad. We've checked and rechecked all the settings on the router, but since all other devices connect without a problem, I think the problem might be the phone itself.
Any help or suggestions?
The phone is 4.4.2 and rooted with stock rom.
Thank you
