Hello
This just started today after 1 day after I bought my Galaxy Note. Sometimes I'm on Wi-Fi on the Note and I'm on my desktop computer, my computer connection to the internet gets disconnected. The WiFi on the phone still works, but I can't visit any websites anymore.
I just received a call and talked for a minute, then my computer connection didn't work for a minute as I tried to load up different websites. Now it's back on. I find this strange. I tried two different routers as well (Cisco and Linksys). Both of them experienced this issue. I tried different ethernet cables as well.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a setting I need to change on the Galaxy Note? I'm new to Android.
I guess the problem is on your router / modem. I haven't heard of a similar problem before.

I have a similar problem on the phone sometimes. WiFi signal will be activated on the phone with full bars, but the phone is still unable to connect to network or visit any websites. Sometimes I get the message 'could not connect to network'. This problem is intermittent but annoying.

Probably best to set a fixed IP address for each device. I find that solves a lot of problems. Sometimes as devices join and leave (like if WiFi goes off) they take each-others IP addresses, and when re-joining the hookup fails.
Sometime I am facing this issue also. Then only I have to reboot ADSL router. Mine is Netgear.

I remember one crazy incident in the past. I had one pre-sample Acer Android phone and randomly some colleague in the same room wouldn't be able to browse in their laptop. After lots of fiddling around, realized that phone was running DHCP service on its own and it was leasing out different IPs to laptops connected to parent wifi router. (So there were two DHCP servers, one in wifi router, another in android phone and laptops connecting to the wifi router were sometimes getting IP issued by the phone).
News to me and i have a lot of devices connected to my router

Galaxy S2
Desktop PC

Hi folks! since tonight i've a problem with my tab, apparently without reasons, it don't connect with my adsl router...
I've reboot tab, reboot router and flashed tas firmware
someone can help me?
Obviously there must be some changes that you don't remember...Have you tried different router? Which authentication method do you use? WEP, WPA? Try changing them?
Had the exact same problem with my Tab. It connected to my Linksys WRT54GS immediately after inputting the key code when I first got it, worked flawlessly for 2-3 days, then just would not connect anymore.
Spent a lot of time with Sprint and Samsung tech support, but they only could offer the "Factory Reset" option, but still were unsure if that would cure it. I have about seven devices that connect through this router - TV, printer, EVO, laptop, etc. and they all were connecting perfectly so I knew it wasn't the router.
Funny thing was, it would always connect to any open wifi I tried ie. Starbucks, etc. It just had problems with my home WAP-WPA secured router.
I set up a static IP on the router and that seemed to work and the Tab would connect again for a day or so, then again lost the ability to connect. I switched back from static IP to the normal config, and for whatever reason, the Tab connected and has been connecting ever since without issue.
If it keeps cycling through Connecting and Obtaining IP Address when you try to connect then try deleting the file /data/misc/dhcp/dhcp_list

Yes! i've tried your suggestion and now it work, thank you so much!
I'm having a strange problem. Before I brought home my Iconia, my router (Netgear 3600) had been stable and running without crashes or a restart for months.
Now, if I leave my tablet in sleep mode, I return to find that although the tablet says it is still connected there is no Internet connection. Also, my other wifi devices are offline too. I have to restart my router to get a connection again.
Is it possible that my Iconia could be crashing my router?

I'm not saying it is, but it MIGHT be a coincidence.
There's not much a wifi client can do to to crash a router afaik. If your router doesn't like dlna/upnp then I suppose that could cause it to whack out, or if there are too many wifi clients on it...but I can't think of anything else.
What's the exact model of netgear? WNDR? DGN? Also, are you still connected locally? Can you ping the router but just can't get to the net? What about a wired connection? If you can get to the router with a wired connection, login to it's admin page and see if you see any errors. Also check for a firmware upgrade on the router.
With my old linksys router I had similar problems. Turns out that you can overwhelm it with connections and when it runs out of resources it's routing is jammed. Maybe you have some app on the a500 that creates too many connections and if your router is on the edge (e.g. your other computers are running torrent software) it might crash.
Or it could be a totally different problem .

Resolved, I think...
Thanks for your feedback!
It is Netgear wndr3700v1. The problem appears to be resolved by upgrading to the latest firmware (which has caused other problems, but resolved this one).
Although I've usually found Netgear to be reliable, they really dropped the ball on the 3700 routers. My four-year-old modem was more reliable and as fast. Unfortunately, I gave it away before I discovered all of the issues with the Netgear unit...

Tell that to my combo DSL modem / wireless / router I had before I got a Wii. As soon as the Wii was installed the router would do EXACTLY what the OP describes. I ran with the Wii unplugged for a week and it never crashed. Within 2 hours of connecting the Wii back to the wireless it would crash the router.
I disabled the wireless on the router and replaced with a commercial grade D-Link and had no more problems.
I was wondering if anyone else have the same issue, I tried on my galaxys ,galaxy s2 and even on my galaxy tab 10.1 wifi could connect but there is no data transfer, I have tried this on several routers in my office but the result is same, is this a bug on android or hardware problem?
I have tried static IP, change many things but no chance, I even tried on different kernels but...
** my friends with blackberry and Iphone can connect to the same router and have internet

But as I say in the first post blackberry and iphone can connect
Yes I have the same prob, goes steady for ten mins, then just stops receiving a network connection, but my desire is fine. My honeycomb tablet does the same thing, but just turning wifi on and off fixes it. This appears to need a full reboot then works perfect again for a while. I've only had this phone two hours and have noticed it so surely others have.

I too faced the similar problem in the beginning dude...later some where in the forum one user stated to reduce the security level of modem or router from WPA/WPA2 to WEP/AES...then it works flawless...i don't know whether it is a problem with android or hardware...but most of the router or modem is secured with higher level of security which could not be accessed by our SGS2..i hope this would be fixed by software update..

Its is most likely router specific problem as its not a general problem and the majority have no problem with the highest security level .
jje
It seems to be a problem with just some devices as indicated by this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194635. For a high end smartphone worth £500, temperamental wifi is a problem i shouldn't have to put up with. My router has no problem with any other devices so it's clearly a fault with the phone.
Never had an issue with wifi and wpa / wpa2 on multiple hot spots and home. Try a factor reset and flash . On kf3 xeu

i have this problem try to set up data tranfer with this, is free and support galaxy s2 , just follow the steps and a messege will arribe with your data set up...
http://tweakker.com/wizard/step1
That tweaker site is for GPRS/3g connection, this thread is about WIFI connection, so it won't help.
I have wifi problems as well. It connects just fine when i first configured the network but it won't work back from standby, although it still looks connected it won't transfer any data. Today i noticed an extra detail, it would seem that an app that was connected was still working but anything else i started fresh (like openinng the browser to access a page) wouldn't work.
I also noticed it loosing connection once after using it continuously for around 15 minutes.
Still haven't tried changing the security settings on the router, but, i previously had an ipad2 (for a short time, then sold it because it's just an expensive toy) and it would display the same behaviour.
Before that, i had a Nexus S with the same router and it always worked flawlessly! No settings were changed in the router.
I'm going to try lowering the security to wpa or wep and test it later.
If it works it might be a problem with the router but it's also a problem with the device (phone/ipad).
EDIT: one more thing, when i first got the SGS2 it had an older rom (vodafone KE7 i think) and it worked flawlessly until i updated it to a newer version the next day. I can't be to sure this was the culprit because i didn't use it that much the day before and it was a fresh install so maybe the issue didn't have time to show up.
one of my friends has a captivate sgs he also has the same problem, seems to be an android bug, or maybe samsung, another issue on this phone is about the bluetooth , it can not discover my headset bluetooth (sony DR-BT50) I have tried galaxy s , galaxy s2 and galaxy tab 10.1 but none of them can discover the headphone seems my galaxy life is messed up
Well i had similar issues with my vibrant and even on my nexus one....i think it is android bug....but if u r using cm7 or miui...u can easily get rid of it...by going to wifi settings>>>>advanced settings>>>regulatory domain>>>>change it to 14 channels....
but my sgs2 doesnt have this prob so far....i used those settings on nexus one and vibrant....and it worked....
Hope this helps..

Surely it would be backwards compatible.
It should be meaningless if bluetooth 3 not support BT2.x many devices still using BT2.X, anyhow my laptop is bt2 but I can connect to my sgs or sgs2

My Glalaxy s 2 has the same problem. It was fine till i was on KF7 but things changed with KG6 now.
My SGSII connects fine to every WiFi I've tried to join (open and ones that I know the password for). That is at least 3 different models of D-Link routers, a few Belkin and others that I can't recall.
I don't count a connection until I can actually view the internet and live stream the radio and I have been on it for more than an hour (I was proving to an ipad & ipad2 users that there was nothing wrong with a WiFi router and it was their toys that kept on dropping the connection).
I am was using the E7 and now F3 stock ROMs.
I did have a problem for about half a day. It would say connected to the WiFi but I couldn't get to the internet. I had to switch off the WiFi and connect via data connection and then try again with the WiFi - sometimes it would work sometimes it didn't. The only thing I installed prior to the problem was the Twitter app (from the market). Once I uninstalled that app and rebooted the phone everything was working fine. I can't say for definite that it was the cause of the problem.
To the OP: since you are connected to the work's WiFi, could the problem with not seeing the internet be due to the Work using a proxy server. That is what my work has.

Well I have a router that was supplied by imagine.ie, its a Motorola router and they with-hold the password to change settings on the router, have you heard the like????
Anyway trying that twitter suggestion, maybe the sync function was causing intermitttent wifi problems
Edit: Scrap them not giving out passwords http://www.imagine.ie/wimax_hub_setup.html
After a few hours survey I could connect my phone to the wifi, but Im not sure if this method works for you, anyhow I will explain here check it on your phone and report back
-Downaload the application "wifi static" from the market and install
-turn your wifi on and then run the application
-in the application choose add configuration,a window will popup saying have found a wifi connection will ask you to set for this connection or no just accept
-exit the application and turn off wifi
-turn on wifi and try to connect to internet,if you can connect then you are done if you can not go to below
-go to wifi static and choose the configuration which is already set and change the DNS I changed DNS1 to 8.8.8.8 and DNS2 8.8.4.4
-reboot (maybe not neccessary but recommended to do)
-turn on wifi and connect to internet and check if you still can not then...
-wait for me for further study
I've seen some chatter about this buried in other threads, but I wasn't able to locate a dedicated thread...so if there is one, sorry about a duplicate post.
So I have a Nexus 7 and a Galaxy Nexus phone and both have this issue. The issue has occurred in multiple environments with multiple routers/networks.
Basically, the wireless on the N7 and both the wireless & cell on the Galaxy Nexus go gray but show as connected with a strong signal. However, there is no IP traffic being routed. The devices have an IP address, and show correct DNS and default route locations and the wireless symbols even show data moving (the little bidirectional arrow deal) but nothing actually happens on the device.
Some have said this means you are not connected to Google's services like Gmail and what-not, but that isn't the case either as you can't ping from the device nor can you go to any websites in the browser, get new mail, get web data for other web enabled apps, or in the case of the phone, get text messages or phone calls.
The only *fix* I've found is to turn off wireless, wait a minute, and turn it back on. This can be really annoying when you have to do it 5-10 times a day on the tablet and it really sucks when you find you miss calls, texts and emails on the phone.
I notice this has never occurred with any of my other Android based devices or iOS devices. This would lead one to believe it has something to do with Jelly Bean and perhaps some background task crashing or something.
Does anyone else experience this? If it were just my phone or just the N7 I would think I had a defective device, but since they both display similar behaviors at different times with different routers on completely different networks, it seems more software related since the only thing in common is that they are both Android 4.1.x devices (it happened on 4.1.1 and now 4.1.2).
I would love to know if there is a real fix for this somewhere!
I fixed mine by getting a new Netgear router...

Again, it happens with multiple routers from the lowly Linksys to Netgear to D-Link to Checkpoint and several more. This is NOT a router issue.
I was having to power off my Linksys router several times a day to allow dropped devices to reconnect again. What happens when you power cycle your router?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
What router settings and security method are you using? WEP, WPA? try changing the channels on your router or something
From what I experienced, it is connected to the router but somehow the router has lost net connection. Rebooting DSL modem fixes it for me. I have DSL connection here in Philippines, the telco provided a zyxel dsl modem. From the DSL modem I have Tomato flashed router. Rebooting the DLS modem fixes without rebooting router or the n7. In N7 from gray it turns blue and i can see the up / down arrows, net access is working.
I get the impression that my request/question was too long as it seems people are not really reading. Either that or they are not getting it because they either never experienced the problem, or because they don't take their N7 around like I do so they think it's connected to their home router.
This problem happens at about 8 different sites. Every site has a different router and a different internet connection from DSL to cable to T1.
This problem happens with both my N7 & my Galaxy Nexus and not at the same time at the same site.
I do appreciate people trying to help, but this clearly isn't a router issue but rather it is an Android issue. Focusing on the router really isn't helpful because there is nothing in common. Even the encryption varies from open networks like at a coffee shop, to WEP (yeah...seriously) to WPA to WPA2.
I just opened my new phone and am trying to get it set up but it will not connect to wifi. It sees all the networks around but it keeps cycling through trying to connect and never gets past the acquiring IP stage. I have tried two different routers and deleted, reentered, and turned the wifi off and on many times. My other phone and all my other devices work just fine on my network. Anyone know of anything else I can try? It was a major hassle to get this phone and I would hate to have to go through a RMA the same day I get it. Thanks
Had the same problem and had to configurate with the inet of sim card. Nexus 4 has some problems with some routers, i couldnt connect my nexus to the router and had to chsnge configuration from router, once connected it was fricking slow. i decided to buy belkin WiFi amplifier and ive connected it to the router. Now it works great, do some research on inet and see if that router is having trouble with n4.
Dont RMA, all have this "issue"
