I'd return and exchange.
Are you doing it right? You need to hover the pen close the then screen, hold the spen and release it.

The note two's s-pen had two screws under the button to adjust sensitivity so it's possible it could be a dodgy pen opposed to phone, worth a google if you don't want to exchange or they have no stock to exchange.
I'm having issue trying to use air gestures it doesn't work.

Problem Solved!
After a few tries i found the sensitivity-setting for "my" S-Pen. My pens sensitivity was to high, so i had to decrease it a little.
Have a instruction video of how to adjust the sens of a S-Pen.
The person in the video had the opposite problem so he turned the screw clockwise.

So today I tried to use the S-pen to write in landscape mode and it is consistently 2-3mm below or in front of the tip. Port
This is ridiculous.
I have also tried using other Galaxy Note demo units in CPW and observe the same thing.
As a long time user of some recent Tablet PCs hp tm2, acer1820p, thinkpad x201t, thinkpad x220t, 3 of which use the same Wacom technology as in the note, I find the omission of a calibration utility absolutely crazy.
The line should fall exactly under the tip - period.
This is the most natural way to write. That is how a normal pen works and how Tablet PCs with Wacom technology work.
Anything other than that is unnatural.
We should not having to adjust to the S-pen.
The S-pen should adjust to us the owners of the device.
This now makes the S-Pen useless to me as it find it impossible to write with this thing...

Note the GNote is sensitive to stylus angle as well as the handedness pen setting. The 'natural' idea of putting the note on a table and drawing at a 90 angle is something that actually causes the note to freak out.

Just noticed this bit of info in another thread...
I wonder if it's possible to disable this feature as I want to write with the note on a flat surface.
It changes based on your dominant writing hand. I can write notes for a long period of time very neatly, maybe your device is defective?

I also have the same problem.
It really needs a calibration utility, but with the SDK that Samsung released, little chance to accomplish this.

No it's not - I tested with other demo units to be sure.
True, and I feel the deviation away from the tip is not even constant... However, I managed to write quite a bit without issues if I do not look at the tip while writing. Also you can choose a particular point on the screen where you can tap the stylus to remember where exactly the point falls...
Hope Samsung fixes this quickly...

Calm down, the spen is far from being unusable, it works nice, just make sure the accelerometer kicks in when you change the screen orientation so the phone is aware of it on a flat surface, otherwise yes, it will be off by a margin.
Its an extra step to do and it could be better for sure but it works

I have also noticed that the S pen needs some calibration.
My S pen is also out of line with the display.
Strangely this only occurs when creating a note or when drawing.
Changing the settings from right to left handed does not solve my problem, but just makes it worse.
As I have understood the drawing line should start within one mm next to the S-pen (on the left or the right side depending on the settings).
Visually it should be like this (the dot is the S pen on the screen. The R is the place where the drawing line should start for right hand settings. The L is the same as the R, but for left hand settings)

.......When i use the S pen on the keyboard to type or swype the dot is perfectly calibrated.
Holy Crap, just noticed that it is exactly the same when typing or swyping….. aaargh it gets more annoying every time because I aware of it now….
Then that means its the smemo...
Hopefully with the sdk out, someones gonna make a better alternative.

my first meeting with note was today and spen was useless. it is good for taking small notes and sketching small graphs but thats all. spen needs calibration needs better hand writing recognition and a different app for meetings. until they are made spen is only for making fun pictures and share them on social network or taking small notes.
Holding angle
I noticed that if you hold the pen at 90 degrees the tip is indeed 2mm below or to the right of writing.
However! I f you hold it at 60-70 degress - like you would normally do when writing (sllightly tilted towards you and also tilted to the right) - the tip it's perfectly aligned with the writing. Try this.
I've done some experimenting, and from what I can gather, the sensor (or rather capacitive element) is not at the tip, but back some. The device guesses at where the tip must be compared to the location of the capacitive element, based on right/left handedness, and the typical position/angle people hold the stylus at. I've made and attached an illustration showing how it works for right handed setup.
I have been using the Galaxy Note for 2 weeks, initially I have no s-pen accuracy problem. It's only these few days I realised that the s-pen is writing 2-3mm away from the point I'm writing.
Googled a lot of forums, and seems like no one is providing an effective solution. So I did a restart on my Galaxy Note, and now it is back to normal.
Hope my contribution helps. Sure hope you enjoy your Galaxy Note, because I enjoyed mine.

You're right, and thank you for writing this.
This makes for a pretty annoying offset when working with the pen in any orientation other than -45° relative to the horizon.
What if I feel more comfortable working at +45°? I hope that now that the S-Pen SDK is available a calibration utility will be made.
I found a quirk on my Note (on Cassie's lite rom 2.2) that fixed all calibration issues for me.
I noticed that when I was writing, it consistantly showed up to the right of the pen nib, and it went even further right when I changed the handedness setting. On a whim, I turned my note to landscape to write and it seemed to align perfectly.
Thinking about it a bit, I re-enabled auto-rotation and EVERYTHING was fixed. Seems like one of the issues is that locking rotation fixes screen in portrait, but touchscreen layer locks in orientation that you deactivated rotation in.
tl;dr - reenable autorotation (then lock in desired orientation if necessary) to fix some if not all s-pen calibration issues
@IcyAirs: I can confirm that, getting to it independently on your post.
I take it you guys have checked the Pen settings ~ Settings/Pen Settings/Dominant Hand.
By Jove you're right !
This worked for me.Mindboggling.

I would try this..
Go to settings, then language and input, then Samsung keyboard settings, then handwriting, then recognition time. This may or may not solve your problem but it's worth a shot!

My issue as of late is that when I click on small links surrounded by other links on a web page using the stylus, an adjacent link often opens. I am using the hover-dot for the stylus, and both it and the tip of the stylus hit the link that I want, but it actuates another one. The work-around is that I have to double-tap-zoom the screen and tap the link I want, then I can zoom back out.
Anyone else having this problem?

I am also using the zoom feature to open the links. It's a bit annoying, but a workaround...for now
Hey, I still am on the very first version of the note firmware because I don't want to screw up s note.
I get the problem you are describing once in a while, specially if the tablet hasn't been rebooted for days. My solution is a simple reboot and then the responsiveness of the touch is perfect again.
Also to mention is another issue which I get after a few days once in a while, the screen resolution all of a sudden seems messed up. The colors turn out weird and u can see definately more pixels. Maybe the display improving system of the note screen gets turned off some how and i get the pure 1280x800 screen. Luckily a reboot also fixes this. Also both issues happen very very rarely, maybe once a week.

I've found mine doing this too, however it's done it twice in the four days I've had it, it's making me think about exchanging and/or sending it back. Mine is an N8000 International 3G one.

I got a new Note 10.1 about a month ago (July 2013) and I believe it already had the updated version. The touch worked perfectly for about two weeks then - bang - can't touch link at all if it's small, can't get right link if they are close... Sometimes I don't know if I'm trying to touch a link that's "grayed out" or if I'm having a touch problem. I've even had to rub at a link to get it to work. But the keyboard and system buttons seem to work fine???????? How bad do dry hands/fingers affect touch?

You might have a fake Note 3 - which would not be surprising since you have not been able to read the rules of this place and learn that that kind of stuff should be posted in Q/A/Help. After the rules also read the thread about fakes.

If you have a genuine Note 3 reflash the firmware and do a data factory reset. If that doesn`t help its probably a hardware issue and you have to send the device in for repair.

Carefully pop off the button with a small screwdriver (do this in a room where you can't lose it, it JUMPS. Also take care not to break it. You can wedge it under the button in the center.). Then use the screwdriver to make small(it's sensitive) adjustments to the potentiometer (dial) closest to the tip. This sets the sensitivity of the pen.
You can test it without reattaching the button.
It sounds a bit odd, but this is a normal process for a Wacon pen.
Also, giving a good whack on the edge of a table with the side of the pen sometimes helps.

Hi what's up I'm asking 4 some help... my Samsung galaxy note 3.... ofter a root my note 3 everu thing was working until about a week ago... I have the following Android Device:
Samsung Note 3
Model No: SM-N9005
Android version: 4.4.2
Build No. KOT49H.N9005XXUGNJ2
Security software version: MDF v1.0 Release 3
Issue: The S-Pen fails to get any input on the screen. I have tried & noticed the following:
1) S-Pen detachment notification works when taken out.
2) Air View options pops up when pen is detached.
3) Air view options work when pressed with finger but not with S-Pen.
4) S-Pen works fine with other Note 3 devices
5) Other S-Pen does not work on my device
6) Made sure the S-Pen features are enabled under the settings. Tried enable/disable as well.
7) Tried the following testing using *#0*#
a) TSP Hovering: Works fine with the finger & the S-Pen(as a trial)
b) Wacom Test: Doesnt detect the S-Pen input at all.
c) SPEN Hovering: Doesnt detect the S-Pen input at all.
8) Tried to tighten up the screw within the S-Pen as a trial although it works with other Note 3 devices, however, it didnt work !
9) Did a Reboot as well!
10) The phone does not have any magnetic case either! FYI
11) Tried changing the nib with the new ones as well!
Could anybody suggest a work around for this problem? I am not sure if a factory reset can solve the problem, has anybody got that working after a factory reset?
I have all my data synced with the my google account, so with a factory reset, would it be restored back once signed it back on the phone? Will the Apps get uninstalled as well?? Do you think it is possible to re-install the S-Pen SDK or something?
Please advise!
Thanks
Pierre

If that's the case then your spen has gone bad. The way the spen works is there is a coil behind the screen and the spen draws power wireless from this coil.
This kinda makes it sure for the problem to be hardware problem not software.
One of two things could have gone bad.
1. The coil itself
2. Or your s pen is not able to take the wireless power..
If you have a friend who has the note 3 then try using his or her spen on your phone. .. That would be a good way to find out if your spen is bad or the coil thing.

Sorry if its the coil. Think that may be expensive.
Not sure how much the new coil thingy will cost you and not sure if its a part of the device screen...
If it is a part of the screen then they will probably replace the screen.
The sPen costs about 50 $ I think.
If you are under warranty and you have not rooted or done anything with the device Samsung should repair this problem without charging you but can never be sure..
Did you drop the device or something before getting this issue ??
