Broken glass - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello i just broke the glass on my droid razr m xt907. how hard is it to trplace and is it expensive..? i have it unlocked and rooted. so i dont want to loss any of that if i get a new on thru insurence...

I did a Google search about that a while back. I was able to find step by step videos outlining the whole process. Can't remember the price for a replacement part though.
I've replaced phone screens before and with a little patience and the right tools, its certainly doable.

If it's just the glass lens which goes on top of the LCD panel it's fairly cheap, but the entire LCD assembly costs $100+. Have a look at this link:

X10a vs. X10i housing

I have a damaged X10a housing from rogers but I think I'm getting another housing for it. is there a difference between a X10a n a X10i? I'm thinking of getting one off of ebay but I don't know if their real either...
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
To my understanding, there is no physical difference between the X10a and X10i. The only difference is the the network bands they run on.

Not at all, I'm positive you can use the housing for it fine. Go for it buddy

How hard is it to change housings? Thinking of changing from White to black
Mckebapp did a good job on taking X10 apaort, please refer to the following link with screenshots
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=668132&highlight=upskirt&page=9
If you are going to buy the housing form dealextreme, do keep in mind that it only come with housing, and it does not come with the Touch screen glass.
The hardest part is to separate your original touch screen glass, becareful when you do that, don't break it.
Also, the color of the touch screen glass will be different if you are thinking of changing the color of the housing.
To OP, what color is your usb port cap? willing to part it out?
Like all SE phones dismantling the phone is easy, but removing the glass digitizer off the fascia can be tricky, and housings advertised at dealextreme are the same as on ebay, and i doubt the replacement housings have any ready adhesive to stick your digitizer back on...
Thanks guys, you have no cluehow helpfull this was, I do appreciate it greatly

I would be curious to see if it is actual SE OEM housing or a copy. My suggestion is to contact SE and get a price on the actual housing. The copies can sometimes leave a bit to be desired. OR find someone who bought one and see how the colors match up. That can be a good way to find out if they are OEM or no. Back cover has production numbers on it.
Good luck

Xperia X10 Disassembly Video

I know there is the written guide already, but I'm those type of people that likes to have a video of these type of thing, so I figured I'd make one.
I looked at the written guide and it goes a step further than my video, I pretty much stop when I reach the camera. If you still need the written guide, here you go:

Digitizer
So, I cracked the glass on the housing of my X10 and was taking it apart to see if the LCD was okay. In the process of doing this i got to the fron housing/digitizer and from the guide that I read the digitizer is glued/double sided taped to the fron housing glass...anyway the guide said to heat the glass/digitizer to make removing it easier (so you dont have to buy another one) and while i was peeling it off, I ripped the ribbon cable for the digitizer. Now, I am looking on eBay for a white housing and black digitizer but a few of these auctions have a lens that is black with the white housing which is a little confusing to me now. So is the digitizer clear and on the back of this so called lens or what?
White Housing w/Black Lens
Black Digitizer
White Digitizer
So you think the digitizer is glued to the "lens" and nobody really goes through the trouble to remove them and just resell them as a black/white digitizer or is there a digitizer that you can just buy that would be clear or something that you would glue to the lens...

There is a warranty stamp? I dismantled mine at one point and they took it back... the only thing the look for is the water damaged sticker

yeah there is definitely no warranty stamp, and even if it did, once your warranty is over, it would be much cheaper just to buy the part and fix it yourself rather than pay someone to repair it.
now i can change my scratch screen thnkz

Touch screen problem

Hi. My screen has a touch imput free area on the top part of it. It is about a half inch, just bellow the notiffication bar. My phone is rooted, and i have hotspot enabled. Other than that is stock.
Plrase advise me as to what i can do. If there is nothig i can do, is my warranty voided because root? Who should i contact for warranty? Att or motorola?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Which method did you root your phone with?...
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
I dont remember. I was rooted, and than updated my phone to the latest moto release. Lost root and than i had to flash somethig to get root back and than to unlock the hotspot app.
This was about 2 or 3 months back. All was ok till about a month ago, when i dropped the phone to the floor. Noticed the screen issue shortly after. Not sure if the drop caused this tho. There are no scratches on the screen, and it had a silicone case on it.

do you think the problem came from dropping your phone or were you messing with something on your phone? and yes your warrentty is voided, but you could get your own new screen on ebay for like 30 buxs and fix it yourself
Not sure if the drop caused it. Maybe. I noticed the pb soon after. I didn't mees with the phone, other than rooting and enaibeling hotspot.
The screen on ebay, is it the same as the stock one? Same quality?

Try a advanced restore of pds.img from the cwm only to see if that fixes your problem.. Thats if you did backup from cwm..
No, i didn't back up anything. Just rooted. I barely mannaged to do that.

My phone had the same thing and I sbf'd back to 1.26 and took it back no problems. Mine was also unlocked.

I also have that problem, the problem is with the touchscreen not the software. At first, the touchscreen will not work for sometime you'll need to turn the screen off and on again. The problem will start more frequent. Then, the touchscreen on some part of the screen will not work at all. Only to fix is to call ATT for a repair. But, I live in Thailand and I brought mine at US. So, it not worth sending it back. I buy the touchscreen off ebay for $60 and change it myself. Working great now.
Pretty cheap on ebay, some for $40. My screen started acting the exact same way. I honestly believe it's heat damage. I remember reading that there are layers of the glass that are glued together. Extreme heat could cause the layers to come apart enough that sections of the screen are unusable.
My screen is exactly as the OP said, about a half-inch from the bar at the top. I noticed it soon after I started mounting the phone in my car near the top of the windshield where it could get some steady sunlight (obviously I didn't realize it was doing that until I noticed this problem).
I just ordered my replacement off ebay and will give it a shot. It's worth $40 if it'll let me use my phone properly again and hold off having to get a new phone prior to my upgrade price kicking in.
Hopefully installation won't be too hard. Good luck to the rest of ya!
This happen to my boyfriend's phone recently as well. I posted everywhere trying to find a solution but no one could help. It started to get worse after about a week or so where another section, towards the bottom of the screen, became unresponsive as well. My boyfriend finally called Motorola and sent it in for repair. We don't have ATT's insurance so we didn't try that way. Anyways, he's suppose to receive the phone this Monday...we'll see if it's fixed.

Did your touchscreen come with the adhesive? If not, you'll need to be extremely careful when you remove the old one cause you'll need the adhesive or you'll need the two sided tape with <0.25mm thick and apply it to around the touchscreen and remember to apply it as a close system or the dust will go under your screen.
If you need more info just PM me
I think i.ll call moto.

Mine had the same issue, ive unlocked, rooted, modded the rom and radio, so no going to ATT, instead i took it to UbreakItIFixIt, just google them, best $99 i spent and kept all my custom goodies!
Sorry I haven't responded, hopefully you got your phone fixed but just in case you haven't...The phone came back and he hasn't had a problem with it whatsoever. The rep on the phone didn't know what was wrong with it or what they did to fix it but whatever they did, it worked. It took about a week or so to get the phone back and the only thing he had to pay for was shipping the phone out.

Nexus 4 front glass repair Q's

I unfortunately dropped my phone and the front glass cracked, breaking the digitizer at the same time. Due to an interesting situation I'm in, I just need the front glass to be fixed, the digitizer doesn't matter to me. So basically I just need to the phone to look perfect from the outside. I've seen the front glass only for $30, but also read about how hard it is to just replace the glass without breaking the digitizer. Though, for me, I don't care if the digitizer is broken, so is it still too difficult to be worth it? Or would it be easier since there's no worry about the condition of the digitizer?
Thanks
Bump
Why do you want it to look good if it's still broken? This smells fishy...
Anyway, your main problem is probably going to be separating the two.

The digitizer on this phone is built into the screen. I don't think you can separate it.

lol, kinda expected those responses. As long as the glass is fixed, im going to be able to get it exchanged via Best Buy's PEP. My friend works there and I already got the OK to do that. Yes, I know it is abuse of the system, but at store level they really don't care.
Thanks for the responses so far

Actions like this make prices higher for the rest of us so excuse me if I don't help you do that. Have you looked into whether your original purchase was covered by any damage insurance that came with your credit card? If your credit card is like mine you can use that coverage to get a new phone and that would be much better than committing fraud just because your friend gave you permission that isn't his to give.

Hardware swap

So I got a new RAZR M when my old screen broke and its unlockable one so supa-sucks, before I go about ripping a new one apart I wanted to make sure my reason of thought makes sense.
Screens broke, swap screens.
I know all warranties are off blahblah. know a screen replacement its a common thing for IPhone (GF shattered 3+screens) just don't know if it was the screen or just outerglass, and if its as easy with the razr.
As reference my last screen replacement was an T-Mo Wing which had a moving keyboard so figure the RAZR couldn't be that hard. But is "sealed" an what not so just want advice. Thank you.
Its really easy if you have the full assembly rather then just the digitizer or just the glass...
