Hardware swap - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I got a new RAZR M when my old screen broke and its unlockable one so supa-sucks, before I go about ripping a new one apart I wanted to make sure my reason of thought makes sense.
Screens broke, swap screens.
I know all warranties are off blahblah. know a screen replacement its a common thing for IPhone (GF shattered 3+screens) just don't know if it was the screen or just outerglass, and if its as easy with the razr.
As reference my last screen replacement was an T-Mo Wing which had a moving keyboard so figure the RAZR couldn't be that hard. But is "sealed" an what not so just want advice. Thank you.

Its really easy if you have the full assembly rather then just the digitizer or just the glass...

N1 digitizer replacement

So I bought a digitizer replacement kit on ebay for my N1. (I dropped it and my screen shattered.) I saw the iFixit teardown on the N1 and figured it'd be easy enough to do myself. The kit comes with tools to open it, but no adhesive to mount the new digitizer.(like the iPhone kits)
Basically I was just wondering what I should use to stick the new digitizer back in. Any advice from someone who's already done it would be great too.
Edit: Got the digitizer installed fine, phone booted, I giggled like a schoolgirl aaaand.. Couldn't unlock my phone. It wont respond to touch. Took it apart again to make sure it was connected properly... So now my only assumption is the digitizer I bought was defective.
Any help would be appreciated..
try asking the ebay seller
Thanks, I'll try that. Any other ideas?
maybe ask an electronics repair shop near you
RellikZephyr
Well I got it installed but it wont respond to touch.. Defective part?
I guess you've made sure it's plugged in right? Would definitely double check that

Yep I did. I contacted the seller on eBay and waiting for a reply. Unless you guys can think of something else I did wrong in the installation I'm sticking with it being defective.
have other people replaced the digitizer successfully on the N1? or perhaps it is some software difference that the new digitizer needs to be "read" by the software, but the OS is looking for the "old" digitizer still...i'm talking out my arse BTW..

I've seen a few people posting here saying they've done it, and I know one guy took pictures of the process. I understand what you're saying and it sounds logical enough, but I can't imagine the parts would be any different to cause that sort of problem.. Assuming the part I bought is legit.
Either way the seller should let me return it if the second one they ship out doesn't work.
i replaced my screen and digitizer yesterday using ebay tutorials i found. pm me and ill share but i bet you used the same ones. its a very delicate process. sometimes you have to be tough with it but at the same time not break the little guy. the only problem i could think of would be your connection. the only thing i fudged on minr was not cleaning the lcd before placing it back in. now i have two large fingerprints in my top right under my screen when i dim it.

I cast... THREAD NECROMANCY!!!
I believe I have the correct adhesive (3M double-sided sticky tape of some small sort), but I'm wondering if anyone has a better idea on how to get the old sticky gunk off of the LCD aside from using rubbing alcohol? Thoughts? Kthxbai.
EDIT: Also, did you ever get your phone working again?

Screen cracked need a new one

I thought this sucker has gorilla glass. How did you break it, out of curiosity?
Pics please!
Might want to check craiglist or ebay for bricks to tear down?
I dropped it on a set of concrete steps and it landed at a angle on the edge of the steps and spider webbed the screen. It still works fine but is annoying with the cracks

I will post pics in a little bit when at the house

this is for the i9000, definitely wont work for our phones;
all i can find is replacement batteries, sorry :/
Return to T-Mobile or samsung? warranties?
I could do a insurance claim and get a whole new phone but that's 130 trying to find a cheaper way

I'm pretty sure your not going to find this screen for less then $130. If you do post it on here.
Well that's why I was asking on here to see if its possible if not then I will go for the insurance
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
They told me it would only be $90 for my insurance....
They told me 130, but it is a matter of worth is it worth it to you to maybe save 20-30 bucks on a screen when they will most likely just give you a new phone? Not really worth it to me.
there was someone that posted either in this forum or the i9000 forum that he had found a display screen for his vibrant at a vendor in texas for $65
i'll look for the thread and come back and post if i find it but you might look for it as well -
found it - was in the captivate forum - you might check with the OP to see if he got what he paid for
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745467&highlight=screen
I would like to have 2 working vibrants. That would be nice it would give me a test phone and a normal use phone. I will probably just do the insurance and be done. And worry about this screen later on. The screen being cracked has minimal effects on viewing the screen and zero effect to the responsiveness of the the touch screen but it does get annoying to look at after a while. And I do have this one running a 1741 quadrant score with little effort but will work great on the insurance claim phone

Here is the link that has the captivate screen, you might call them and see if they can get the Vibrant. The price on the 'Cap' is really cheap in compirson to what i thought it would be. Only like $75.

Yep.. I have a big scratch on my Gorilla Glass. I'm not sure how it happened. Just looked at it yesterday and there it was. I'm guessing keys in the pocket or something.

Broken glass

Hello i just broke the glass on my droid razr m xt907. how hard is it to trplace and is it expensive..? i have it unlocked and rooted. so i dont want to loss any of that if i get a new on thru insurence...
I did a Google search about that a while back. I was able to find step by step videos outlining the whole process. Can't remember the price for a replacement part though.
I've replaced phone screens before and with a little patience and the right tools, its certainly doable.

If it's just the glass lens which goes on top of the LCD panel it's fairly cheap, but the entire LCD assembly costs $100+. Have a look at this link:

Custom Moto X Parts?

Here's my thought:
Those of use who were unable to use motomaker on verizon and soon other companies, why could we not just buy the parts from a third party and customize ourselves?
I think it would be relatively easy compared to a screen replacement.
Where would we go about doing such a thing? Has anyone heard of anything like this? I think it would be easy and a great way for everyone to be able to have a custom moto x.

I'd love to see phones being made with replaceable snap-on plates, like the old Nokias. Only issue would be, there would be no way to stop people from using tacky designs from some cheap 3rd party plate makers.
Have you seen the ifixit teardown? It might take a bit of effort to take off the backplate, and a new one might end up coming loose.

Personally it looks exactly like the Original Razr and that wasnt too hard. I've replaced parts on those before the back isnt that hard to take off and sticks again well, their adhesive is very strong.

Nexus 4 front glass repair Q's

I unfortunately dropped my phone and the front glass cracked, breaking the digitizer at the same time. Due to an interesting situation I'm in, I just need the front glass to be fixed, the digitizer doesn't matter to me. So basically I just need to the phone to look perfect from the outside. I've seen the front glass only for $30, but also read about how hard it is to just replace the glass without breaking the digitizer. Though, for me, I don't care if the digitizer is broken, so is it still too difficult to be worth it? Or would it be easier since there's no worry about the condition of the digitizer?
Thanks
Bump
Why do you want it to look good if it's still broken? This smells fishy...
Anyway, your main problem is probably going to be separating the two.

The digitizer on this phone is built into the screen. I don't think you can separate it.

lol, kinda expected those responses. As long as the glass is fixed, im going to be able to get it exchanged via Best Buy's PEP. My friend works there and I already got the OK to do that. Yes, I know it is abuse of the system, but at store level they really don't care.
Thanks for the responses so far

Actions like this make prices higher for the rest of us so excuse me if I don't help you do that. Have you looked into whether your original purchase was covered by any damage insurance that came with your credit card? If your credit card is like mine you can use that coverage to get a new phone and that would be much better than committing fraud just because your friend gave you permission that isn't his to give.
