I've been having some issues lately too (BSOD). Black Screen of Death happens occasionally, which is more than it ever did as before a few weeks ago I was one of the lucky ones NEVER to experience BSOD, but now it happens about once a week. Nothing particular causes it other than locking the tablet at the wrong time, or if the tablet locks up. However, holding Power has fixed it everytime for me, but its still an annoyance.

I'm sorry for the trouble your going through with your N7 but so far I've not had BSOD I for one am now wishing I have waited to update to 4.3 just for reasons like me and you are going thru the only thing that I don't understand is why when I try to power on my N7 it does a weird screen flash twice real quick and if you don't hold down the power button and count to at least 10 it will not power up it has never ever done this matter of fact I have never had a problem with it before ever any ideas

So I got my 32gb grey 10.1 yesterday and today I hate to go in and exchange for another one.
I was playing Galaxy on Fire 2 and the game froze up the whole tablet. I had to hold the power button to get the unit to power off and then it would not power back on. I held the power button forever, no dice. Tried plugging it into the wall and the computer...nothing. Let it sit for a while then tried again.. dead.
Went to best buy and luckily they had more so I just exchanged it...now I get to set it all up again yay!
Huh, maybe you just got a bad one. I played that game a little last night and it ran amazingly smooth. Maybe i didnt play it long enough for it to crap out lol nevertheless, I hope it wont be a widespread issue

It was running great for me too. I actually had just got to the part where you had to buy the full version and did so.. That's where it froze up the whole tablet.
I think i'll stick to snes9x for now just in case this is a chip issue. Did you notice it overheating at all whilst playing it?

Nope, none at all. I got the message that I needed to upgrade to the full version to continue so I hit accept. It went through and my email from the market came through then it froze up and wouldn't recover. After about 10 minutes I held down the power button till it turned off and from there it would never turn back on.
Me too... :-(

I had to exchange mine as well. I actually picked mine up on Wednesday 6/15/11 from Tiger Direct here in Naperville. I was trying to get my Mac to recognize it (FAIL) and the screen would not come back on... I exchanged it on 6/16/11... now seeing your post, I am deeply concerned. I gave up my Asus Transformer for this!!!
i had a similar issue, my went off and will not turn back on, i plugged it in the charger and the battery animation will not come on at all, it was flashing on and off and it it show the battery icon but no animation the screen was turning itself on and off while plugged in.
after about an hour of messing with it, i have to actually hold the charger with my thumb and out of no where it starting charging and i could see the battery animation, then i immediately unplugged it and it turned on right away.
a bit concern with that
I got my Nexus S 4G about two weeks ago when Sprint sent it as a replacement for my old Epic. Since I got it my back button has been locking up constantly. I have to turn the screen off and on again or wait the 10 seconds that it takes for it to unfreeze. Sometimes it backs me out all the way to the home screen when it happens. Does anyone know of a fix or something, because this is really getting bringing my mood down on what is otherwise a really awesome phone.

It's unfortunately a known hardware issue: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=455215ff8747658b&hl=en
So I have to get a replacement don't I?
My white i9020a's back button has been freezing a lot too. At least 3 times a day. I've even had the home button freeze once. I'm hoping that the ICS update addresses it as the phone didn't include a warranty..
I had that problem a few weeks back. I flashed a few different kernels and also took the cover off and loosened the screw behind the back button. Not sure which did it but it's fine now.

Hopefully someone can help me.
Suddenly my nexus has frozen with screen off.
Per Google CS instructions, Ive tried to hold down the power button down as well as holding the power button down with volume rocker pressed and still no restart.
Has anyone had this problem, would rather not have to buy a new device and send the other back as that is all I could do.
Hopefully I can just fix it without having to go through the trouble of getting a new device and returning this one.
Thanks in advance!
Try leaving it on the charger for a day. Could be that the battery somehow completely drained which messes up the recharging system in the battery. Leaving it in the charger for some time might help, or not.

Worth a shot...I really miss removable batteries right about now!!!
Yeah, this has happened before with my nexus 7 and my touchpad also. I had left something running that totally killed the battery and I could not get a boot at all. After charging though I was able.
Chances are it is not frozen but rather dead most likely because of the battery.

Turns out its most likely not the battery as it was just about fully charged prior to the freeze. Plugging in to a computer to try to do the hard reset gets the notification light to flash red. Someone on another android forum had the same issue and needed a replacement.
Just ordered my replacement which they have available since they kept a reserve for possible defective devices. A hold for the new phone will be placed on my account until they receive the defective unit.
Hopefully its a fairly painless process! That being said, it was a great phone when it worked! Hoping its not going to be a widespread issue among other users.
Just got my new nexus delivered... Hopefully no issues with this one!

Nexus 4 Freeze
Is there any chance you could possibly let me know how you returned your device, as unfortunately the same thing has happened to me.
Nexus 4: on google earth, phone crashed/froze, held down power button, dark skreen, frozen still, want exchange.

Hey guys,
Recently got my Nexus 7. I tried turning it on when it came out of the box but it didn't.
So I though I'd charge it for a while. When I plug it in a battery icon pops up for about ten seconds and then the screen goes black again.
I can't turn it on at all. Tried holding the power button for a long time but that didn't work either.
I'd really appreciate it if you guys could help me out rather quickly because I'm on holiday in the US so I've got limited time left to swap it, if nothing else helps.

did you leave it on the charger for several hours? the battery could have been dead.

When I took it out of the box the battery was about half full (according to the charging animation). Now it appears to be full. Left it charging for about 2 hours.
Thanks for the quick reply by the way.
try holding the power button down and the volume down button. see if itll boot into the bootloader. if it does, select start in the bootloader then press the power button to select. maybe itll boot that way.

Not working either. The only thing I've managed to see on my display is the charging animation so far.
Feels like such a disappointment.
have you tried holding down the power button longer than you would expect to hold it down? like 1-2 minutes.

Just held it for 3 straight minutes. Nothing. At one point I thought I saw something on the screen but it was a reflection. Haha.
This doesn't look good does it?

I had a similar issue after a couple months of use with mine. The screen just turned black while I was playing a game and it wouldn't respond to anything. At first I thought it had shorted out or something, and I was considering returning it, but after about an hour of leaving it alone on the charger, it started working again like magic. My friend had the same exact issue. Idk maybe this helps....

Thanks, I'll just leave it charging for the night. I'll see tomorrow. Hopefully this works!
Or do you think I should return it anyways as there might be more to it?

you should probably exchange is well you still have a chance. better to be safe than sorry.
If you're feeling froggy, you could check to see if the battery is plugged in. Asus seems to have a QC problem when it comes to connecting the N7 battery.

I swapped it, have got a perfectly working little nexus 7 now!
Thanks for all your help.
So I see this is a common but no one has mentioned static on the screen. When I plug it in, it boots as normal with the nexus animation etc. When it starts it immediately says shutting down, and turns off. However, while it remains plugged in the static on the screen is there and a very very faint buzzing sound from the top/back of the tablet.
Anyone had similar? I've searched and searched but nada.

It might help if you plug it in while off then press power and vol down and hold, it should go to a screen where you can scroll with vol down to shut off.
Then unplug and replug into wall, let charge for while then boot up
Seems to be a common fix, hope this helps
Here's the full collection of "fixes" this issue and those closely related.
Hope it helps!
Thanks for the replies guys, I just took it back and had it replaced where I bought it since I had it less than 12 months. It was a 16GB but they only had 32GB in stock, so guess what I got?!

Hey - I guess there's something to say for buying tech gear at local bricks/mortar places.
Yours is the best "fix" of all!!
Be aware that your reported issue might very well happen with your new N7 as well - it's typical, in fact. One great way to avoid that issue (it's listed as a fix in my Sticky that I refereced earlier) is to occasionally just turn it off - for an hour or two. You can charge it during that time if you wish.
Good luck with your new *better* N7!!
Don't I know it, man! The first one I knocked very gently, yet the screen cracked pretty badly. The second burned out so hopefully this one will be lucky.

Damn good luck, getting a new one with double the gb's, def best solution!
Well just a quick update. The new one also broke, I went to turn it on and it was dead. Did think about getting a nexus 10 but since brick and mortar stores don't sell it, it will be too much effort to return when I inevitably find a light bleeding issue. So F google, I'm typing this from my new iPad!
