Well guys I used to have Gnex...there we had nightlies, mods, ports, milestones, kernels and latest google updates...life was so fun..I became flashaholic...and then I bought gt-i9500...thought it will have a great developer supoort and if not nightlies I'll have good number of interesting roms to flash.but I was realky realky disappointed when I see 6 roms only . I'm not saying that these rons are not good..no way...all of them are great and stable...but when I see s3 forum and htc one forum or even gt-i9505 forum I realky regret buying this phone.who else does??

It's all because of Samsung...I mean come on guys...u create a chipset and you're not sure about its effectiveness or whateva the reason is that you declare 9505 the "international" version??it has never happened in the past.samsung is surely losing grounds or at least surely is nervous by htc one and the xperia coming one after another that you create exynos then u say no we'll put snapdragon thing in the other model and then again u say no let's have a snapdragon 800..and then u put a bulky camera in it and call it zoom and then u put tight screws in it and call it the Active...one is so much cinfused in all this GALAXY that I start thinking s4 is a GALAXY within already congested galaxy.
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda app-developers app
well, just to throw another opinion out there...i chose the s4 because i was looking forward to a phone that will just work straight out of the box, stock rom, without having to try custom firmware and roms just to get any sort of use out of the thing. other android phones i've used have awful battery life and all sorts of system instabilities and bugs. it's nice to finally have a phone that just works, does what it's supposed to do and i don't have to worry about switching off all the smart features because of battery life. only thing i'm waiting for now is the a2sd update so i can free a little more mem for apps. but with 64gb sd card, i have loads of room for music and videos. definitely the best stock rom/device i've had so far.
That is quite well said bro..this device is a beast in itself..but everybody has different expectations and differebt priorities. At least samsung should have overhauled the UI..

im dissappointed because s4 has no hdr video, there is weird lag in shutter sound, and i dont understand why they couldn put a 3100mAh battery, there is a plenty of space in such big phone :/

Well first of all, GNex was Nexus. It makes it a lot easier if devs are working on Nexus. Also GNex was a lot cheaper and this led to more users. Generally if there are more users, the development blooms. You can't really compare your i9500 or even i9505 against the development of any Nexus phone.
S3 has been out for a lot longer than S4 and now you are really comparing these two's development?
HTC One and i9505 have more developments going on because simply they have more users and also AOSP devs have more experiences with Snapdragon from phones like Nexus 4.
I don't know how you bought i9500 but I'm going to assume that you bought it off-contract for like $700. Very small amount of people would actually go this route instead of just paying $200 with contract.
I should buy s3... Is the same..

Nexus always had source and the last couple of nexii may very very have sold more than the i9500. A lot less people own them compared to i9505 and many Devs have shied away from phones with no source.

I have a Gnexus and a N4 at home at the moment. I gave them to gf and kids.
Am I disappointed of my 9500? Not at all, everything is better than my old N4 from screen to battery life.
Yea i have less rom to flash, but I don't care, I have one without bloatware that's running great, fast.
Here they're selling the 9505, so I imported my GT-I9500, paid 150$ more than what 9505 would've cost me. And I would redo it tomorrow without hesitation if I needed to.

With all of Samsung`s latest android tablet`s having stereo front facing speakers, i think they dropped the ball, Letting HTC get the first stereo phone, i would have bought the S4 instead of the One if they had.
John.
I just switched from the 9500 to the htc one a few days ago.
I had a note 1. I enjoyed it for a few years. I wanted an updated experience that felt fresh and snappy and provided something slightly different. The s4 just did not do this for me.
Is it a good phone? absolutely.
But for me it didnt do anything i was left wanting.
The htc one has provided me with what i was looking for. Absolutely blazing UI theres no stutter or lag in any form or in any function. An enhanced sound experience vis a vis the boomsound speakers.
Zoe. - its fun
Premium finish - seriously its just so superbly crafted.
I think what most S4 I9500 user longing for was an absolute support from Samsung. An update that would really fix issues. Devs could only do as much. Fws came flying out from Samsung lab that does nothing.

why do you need more custom roms, kernels, mods to consider it a good device?
the i9500 has fewer roms, kernels but those developments are unique that you cant find it in the i9505 dev's threads. especially the Persues Kernel from Andrei, the screen/sound mods are the true original works that others dont have. and i have seen users from 9505 going to Persues's/Wanam's Thread asking to port their mods to i9505 just because they dont have those unique features even they have more roms/kernels.
i upgraded from n2 to s4 because i know Andrei, Wanam, Indie are there. and their qualities are more than enough to convince me. i am lucky that i dont have to import i9500, my country is selling it
My s4 is a monster !!!

Guys i need a little help. I am replacing my lovely nexus s.
My candidates are
Nexus 4
Galaxy S4
HTC ONE
Galaxy S3
Today i tried an S3 and a HTC ONE and an S4 (i9505) and a n4.
I love the S4 the design i think is much better than the s3, but the ONE has the best design, but i never buy a phone just 4 the design. And it is impossible to replace anything on the HTC One. The camera is not so good either, but the microphone and the stabilization is realy an useful extra. And HTC is never too good on updating its software. N4 is is a good all rounder, but the camera is crap The screen was insanely nice in the s4. My problem is that the s4 browser lagged like hell, i loaded up the verge desktop as my usual test page and during loading it was all choppy and unresponsive even the s3 was much faster! Not to menion my nexus 7 almost my dated nexus s was more responsive.... Maybe the demo phone does not had the final software? Can somone with a stock i9505 can try theverge? Please tell me how the browser behaves on a final s4? thx
I'd suggest you go with the s4. The lag was due to firmware not being ready. Chances are the model you will buy will probably not lag. And even if it does it will be fixed with an update. The s4 has the best hardware around right now, no doubt about that. The htc one is also a great phone and you won't regret buying either of them. I wouldn't buy the nexus 4 or s3 though.

S3 would be only because of price but i dont realy like compromise What you have against the nexus? Do you have the s4?
You may want to ask this in a general section and not in any sub forum as you will get biased replies to whichever forum you ask in. If you have decided to ask here it sounds like you are leaning towards the S4. The One at the moment sounds like the smoothest but if you want/need an external battery and SD slot you should probably go for the S4. The Ones camera isnt bad, its not as good as the S4 in daylight but better in low light. I'd go into a store again then compare the One & S4 to see which one you really like.

I imagine what is in the store is final retail. I have never seen any device in store running pre-release hardware or firmware. What you see is what you get.
You'll get different views.
If software is important I'd recommend the nexus 4 as you'll get key lime pie before any Samsung or HTC device. It's not bloated with features, it's simple stock Android fast and functional.

Then i will go to another store and try it as if the s4 would behave that much slower as the s3 i would expect lots of people complaining
Only options in my eyes would be the S4 or the One. I have had both, the One first but I had to switch to the S4 as every single unit I found had stuck pixels among other faults. Aside from that it is a great phone, but if you do consider one then make sure you get a good one before you leave the shop!
Alternatively, absolutely no regrets going to the S4 instead.

Well lack of expandable storage along with the maximum option being a 16 gb version is the dealbreaker. I have a 16 gb s3 + 32 gb micro sd and I tend to fill that up with music and movies so I wouldn't be able to survive on just 16 gb. Theres also the battery life which doesn't seem to be that great along with it being non removable though I could probably live with it if it was only just that. I don't have the s4 right now. Still trying to decide between the s4 and one...

I have seen that too and HTC is realy better in updating non flagship devices for example the galaxy w does not even get updated from 2.3, but s2 the former flagship got 4.1.2 and wil get 4.2.2 and the HTC sensation remained on 4.0.4. But if someone replaces phone every year that does not realy matter

As the others.....GT-I9505 FTW
I don't really understand the 'everything else' comments regarding the I9500 over the I9505. Other than a tiny advantage in photo quality and a small advantage in CPU speed which will never be noticed in everyday use, I really can't see what these claims refer to.
From what I can see the I9505 holds all the cards, especially when you consider it's the hardware Google themselves are basing their S4 Nexus on. Faryaab has already said developers will get Google S4 Nexus updates working on the I9505 which will mean official AOSP Android updates pretty much as soon as they're released. The I9500 is stuck with Touchwiz and that's unlikely to change any time soon given that no one appears to be developing for it.
Both lovely phones, but only one winner when all aspects are taken into account. Put it this way, now the development limitations of the Exynos are becoming more and more clear, I would put good money on there being a lot more I9500 owners out there who would swap their device for an I9505 right now than vice-versa. Or at least if they're honest with themselves.
But the first reply is correct, there are already numerous threads on this subject.

Lol, you do know there's a thing called importing, yeah?
I'm having a really hard time deciding between the at&t version of the S4, and the soon to be released "Google Edition" of the S4.
I have the ATT version now, and running TouchWiz, it's one of the laggiest phones I've ever used! Non stop lag throughout the UI, and particularly in the SMS app of all places...the keyboard freezes completely and the S4 just runs like absolute dogs**t.
I've disabled everything that can be and that helps quite a bit, but I still have lag.
I definitely want the stock android experience and understand I'd lose some features from the touchwiz/carrier version, which I am fine with.
Where' I have a hard time deciding is on cost. The carrier version is $250 for 32gb for me, vs the $650 google edition.
What do people here think? Will the carrier verision be able to run STOCK android every bit as well as the one google releases? I want as flawless a phone as possible. My nexus 4 is amazing, except for the terrible battery life and lack of LTE, so I want an S4 that will run android as well as the nexus.
Will the carrier S4 handle the google edition rom once that's (hopefully) released? Any stability or performance issues I should be aware of?

No one can be certain given ATT's behavior with the s4, but IMO it is safe to get the ATT version. My phone already feels like the google edition thanks to task650's AOKP, things will only get better for us when the GE is released
I would say the AT&T is still a worthy device. I too was in your laggy shoes. As much as I want to flash a custom ROM I am going to wait a bit before I do. Mainly, I want to see if the GE will support the added features such as the ir blaster. If they do I'm waiting for Roms to include those from the GE.
I know you have disabled a bunch of stuff already but I disabled practically everything Samsung on the phone and found replacements and kept what I wanted. I'm sure you have too.
In a short end of things while I'm still stock I am more of Nova/Google device with a back end of touchwiz. Adjusted some settings in Nova and the device settings. Its been a few weeks so I will have to look back and see exactly what I set but my laggy phone is now quite snappy.
I'd say stick it out because I personally feel confident the GE will flash fairly well on our devices. If I'm wrong then I guess I'll be waiting a little longer for a ROM I like or just a Galaxy S5 or S6.

Thank you very much for the reply. I'll give that ROM a try now...
I've used CM10 on here, but even that was a little laggy. My main reason for switching back to touchwiz though, was so that I could use my 64gb exFat SD card.
I was in the same boat. Love the s4 hate the lag but didn't want to pay the premium for the Google s4. I found the best for me is flashing GoldenEye ROM which is just the international ROM on our att model. It takes out the lag and keeps the phone like stock. Love it.

Other than the Smart Stay and camera, TouchWiz doesn't really do anything for me.
If those are critical to you then I'd go with the AT&T phone since it's less expensive.
For me, had I known about the Google Edition coming out, I would have waited for it and bought the AT&T but then flipped it on eBay before opening the package. To ensure I got the most $ for it. Then I'd have put a few bucks of my own into the deal and bought a Google Edition.

I definitely agree with you there. I was leaning that direction for a long time, but I think I've decided to keep the ATT version.
I got the 32gb for $250. I'll keep this (actually running great now with the goldeneye rom) and worst case scenario I'll buy a nexus 5 for $350 (speculation of course, but I think likely to happen) when it comes out, then sell my GS4 and possibly even make a slight profit.
Thanks to all for the advice!

On the plus side to stick with AT&T model you get Touchwhiz support which to me is not a bad thing considering they could easily fix Touchwhiz, if they would just listen to us lol As it stands we don't know how TW will work with the Google Edition. It would make sense that it should run flawlessly on it but there's always that chance Google will play with something to keep you on there side.
I was super excited to see the google edition of the S4 during google io, after having time to ponder it, I too am wondering if it will be the best purchase. It would seem that a lot of the addidtional hardware such as the IR Blaster will not function, so Im starting to have my doubts. Thought I know in the end I will be unhappy with anything that is not up to date with android?? grrr, I just want the perfect phone darnit.

Pretty sure it won't work. As of right now, there is no Android API to access the IR blaster. Rumored to change for 4.3.
Google edition actually does support the ir blaster on the s4. You just need an app to support it. Read reviews today and all indicate it works but doesn't come with WatchOn or any stock apps to use it.

You can give a nexus 5 a try, maybe the htc one.
But personally i love my s4, if you try to have the last and most fashioned tech ever you will end with a new phone eveey two weeks...
But yeah what one you had? The i9505 or i9500.
I ask that cause you need to keep in mind all roms and posibilities you have with one or another.
I have a 9500 and slowly but surelly roms and magic start to roll and now i have 4.3 and my little beast run everything smooth, with no issues.
So my answer is yes it whorth it..
Sorry for the long answer...
Good luck

Although the lack of camera and external storage on the nexus 5 is very off putting... I'm still very tempted. Would have 200 left if I sold my phone. And it looks stunning the nexus 5 does.

well if u are asking if it s kinda old news , then yeh . the s5 will come out in a couple of month according to samsung so it s bettet to wait. Also as ktouy said u might want to give the nexus 5 a try .
Yes it's still a great phone and still getting updates. If you are a fan of always getting the latest things you could go for a nexus 5.

only if you need the camera or sdcard
nexus 5 kill every phone out there and you can buy more stuff
but s4 camera is really epic
Thanx guys.. Actually m not heavy user not much camera just personalisation fan obviously should smooth.. But my next question is.. after buying s4 spending big money.. Will worth? I mean my friends(include girl friend) xD.. will think that "shee!! This is s4 how cheap.. Not good"
That is second thing I don't want...
So. Is there any thing like that?

If you want to stick with s4 you can buy the I 9506 with the new snapdragon s800.Then you will have your beloved phone with new top specs
NO. Wait for S5. If it's January then it's not long. Going to Nexus from S4 is ridiculous unless you are a fan of that other thing, AOSP or whatever, a dumb display, impossible.
However S4 is pretty badly optimized outta box. You need to install a custom kernel and do some tweaks to make it run smooth. 4.3 is another big blunder Samsung has done, a testing ROM got released just to stay in competition with other brands and their upgrade schedule. If it weren't for the size I would never have sold the Note 2, God it was so smooth, so much better optimized than S4!
Hi guys. What do you think is the better phone s4 or nexus 5. Ive been offered a swap for my s4. Just wondered what you guys think.

Depends very much on what you use your phone
if it for development - Knox is a problem
but if you use it normal - S4 is a very very good phone
this is my opinion
Hardware, camera Samsung.
Android pure N5.
ice tapatalk
Vote for S4 for its hardware key, removable battery and SD card.
The only drawback of S4 is the bloatwares but I can remove than after rooting my phone. I do stay at 4.3
I would suggest if they are priced equal then s4 coz it is pretty nice.I hate pure android and the speakers of nexus are pretty bad.

Go to a store an try them both, than you can make your decision.
I think that the S4 hardware is nicer with more options for accessories too.
On the other hand, the pure android experience in N5 is hard to be unnoticed.
I would also recommend trying them in a retail store before drawing any conclusion.
IMHO, I would recomend S4 from T-mobile so it can hold custom rom (aka pure android) so you could have the best of both worlds. =)
Thanks for your help guys. Think I'll stick with the s4. I went to a shop yesterday to have a look A lot more features than the n5 plus like you said if I wanted I could always flash a pure android rom.

I had the N5 for 6 months then decided to sell and return to the S4 (bought new version on swappa). You can't go wrong either way but, for me, I like the S4 hardware better...turns out the replaceable battery was something I wanted for backpacking, etc. Plus I like the S4 camera.
The N5 is pretty basic and the hardware rattling noises kinda bugged me over time...which may have been repaired in current versions...not sure.
Running stock/unrooted with most bloatware disabled AND even have been using the Google Now Launcher which is great...an exact clone of the N5 version from my viewpoint (even voice detection from home screen).
The preferred the texture of back of the N5 but I use a thin case over both phones so it really didn't matter.
In stock version...for me battery life has been the same on each phone.
as many have said...personal preference.
I would go with the N5 but that's my opinion I like the simple smooth look of the N5 not a big fan of the looks of S4 but of you keep the S4 make sure you root because my S4 lag and got wicked hot randomly and I factory reset it a coupe time plus had it RMA and keep doing the same thing I can't complain about anything about the N5 I would get the lg g2 but I like the N5 form factor better
