Hello,
My MDA is set up to grab my exchange email, etc over the air through activesync. When I set up the account on the MDA, the setup wizard told me that I could set the account to grab new messages as they arrive. That of course sounds great so I chose that option.
Anyway, occasionally (not always) when I receive a new message on the exchange account, I get a text message silmultaneously with the same from address and subject as the new exchange email that arrived. I assume that "directpush" works by sending out these texts to trigger an activesync. However, as I mentioned, i don't ALWAYS get these texts. Also, it appears that I occasionally get texts a day after the message arrives in my inbox and even after I know I've read and deleted the message from my MDA.
Regardless of the sporadic nature of the texts, shouldn't the MDA keep them hidden from me? It's a little frustrating having to go thru and delete all these erroneous messages.
Any suggestions as to how I can clean this mess up?
First you need to provide more information.
What Rom are you using?
Only AKU 2.x Roms support Direct Push and then you need to have the correct version of Exchange Server (I think 2k5 sp2).
Direct Push does not use SMS but rather a heartbeat via GPRS.
I believe the old version of AS with Exchange Server used SMS (1.x Roms).
Thanks for the response.
I'm using xelencin's rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=53300
I have "direct push" turned on via the comm mgr. My office uses exchange 2k3, not sure what service pack. I don't believe there is such a thing as 2k5.
I might have typed the version number wrong, haven't been an exchange guy for many years. I would suggest talking to the guys responsibly for it and see if they support "MSFP".

The thing is, it works. I get mesages delivered to my phone nearly instantly. However, my SMS box is full of useless crap and this dilutes the usefullness of SMS in general.
That would lead me to believe that the exchange server doesn't support the true Push and since the Rom does it isn't disposing of the SMS as that is the old method.

Ok, that makes sense. I'll get a hold of the exchange admin weds and see if he can do anything for me.
It's Exchange 2003 Service Pack 2...
Are you receiving these texts if you eliminate the exchange server relationship?
(domain can be case-sensitive)
This is most odd. Another strange thing is that you mentioned that you got the option to get new messages as they arrive. That would happen pre AKU2 and SP2. I'd really suspect that your IT guys haven't really gone from SP1 to SP2 as you should not get that option during the AS configuration.
Also, I know that a big concern was that originally MS was thinking of using SMS which was a major pia as we have to purchase that "add-in" from Cingular and get charged for any SMS over our limit. In other words, you might want to see if you're getting charged by T-Mobile....

Interesting. I removed the relationship from activesync (activesync basically now asks me to set up sync with a pc or exchange server), but I'm still getting the texts. Sometimes, I'm getting duplicate texts. They're all coming from "701" if that helps.
HALP!

Is there anyway for me to check the version of exchange as a user?
Ya, the SMS thing is a concern for me. I had to sign up for a text plan on tmobile so that I don't end up oweing a fortune at the end of the month!
That's a good question, determining Exchange SP level remotely. I just tried my OWA but it tells me nothing. I'll keep looking.

Also, I just re set up my exchange OTA active sync. I get a "pop up" saying that I can synch as items arrive. When I go into "schedule", there's a link there to set that up which then asks for "Text messaging address for this device". Previously, I put in [email protected] which seems to work, but maybe I need to enter it differently some how?

I have an idea.
It appears that even the new versions of exchange have the feature "AUTD" which does the SMS message triggered update. I set up the exchange account for "auto update" 2 times now, but haven't set it up a 3rd. Is it possible that when the user configures the auto update feature, it triggers the AUTD sms messaging bit on the server? Since I've done it twice, I'm now getting two sms messages per incoming email. However, previously, when i had pocket outlook configured to handle the auto-update bit, it was concealing one of the two identical SMS's, but not the other.
I'm sure I explained this horribly, but it was worth a shot.
Not sure why I didn't notice this earlier...
I'm getting texts related to ALL of my email accounts configured on the device. This includes the exchange account mentioned earlier, but also two GMAIL accounts. For what it's worth, I set these two gmail accounts up through the tmobile set up wizard and later deleted the accounts from the device in an attempt to test things out. When the accounts were setup, they seemed to be grabbing the mail through a tmobile proxy or something instead of directly from the gmail servers.
No idea why I'm getting these messages, but this is getting crazy!
Stranger and stranger! I think that I would contact T-Mobile asap and cancel that SMS. I personally have never had any need for Texting, etc but people have different needs.
What I would start out with is to hard reset the phone after syncing it. Then I'd delete the partnership with AS. I'd setup my Exchange by installing your Exchange server's Security Certificate on your device(which you should keep on your SD card), configuring the AS on the device, never connecting to the PC. Wait a while to setup your GMail accounts, etc. ... one step at a time.
Good luck!

RESOLVED!
Ok, I think I figured it out.
T-mobile apparently uses these text messages to trigger email synchs.
I logged into my tmobile account and decided to pay attention to the "t-zones" section for the first time. "Setup My E-Mail" takes you to a page that allows you to configure email accounts for your device. It also allows you to check your email for those accounts. Anyway, there's an "Alerts" section that you can configure and it appears to relate to these texts that I've been receiving. Even my exchange account was configured here and was setup to send the text messages.
Additionally, it appears that I wasn't being charged for the texts. None of them have shown up in my online bill.
I believe that ALL of this was the result of using the tmobile email setup wizard that's included on the phone xelencin's cooked rom.
Whew, I feel like I've solved a puzzle.
Good for you! Makes sense now...
I've never run that email wizard myself, always manually create the accounts.

Hello,
I was unsure of which thread category to post this, so I did a couple.
Have a AT&T Fuze with the NRG v2.0 41609 ROM. Running MSO2007, specifically Outlook 2007 through Exchange on my company's network. I do not know what Exchange server version we are running.
Here is the issue...
On occasion, perhaps 1-2 times per day I must completely resync my Fuze contacts, calendar, etc, etc with Outlook 2007. Why? The "server" changed. Sorry, the error message I recently got and have gotten in the past essentially says the data on the server has changed and I must resync all of the data the Fuze. I do not recall the EXACT message. Bottom line though is nothing "changed" at least by me.
Also, under the Settings > Connections there is a "Edit my Proxy setting choice and it auto checks and completes an entry xxxxxxx.com for the server address. I have unchecked, rechecked, etc hoping this helps aovid this regular resync.
Lastly, the resync takes about 90 minutes given all of the contacts, calendar, email and if it did not take so long I would not fret about it.
So why and why might I change to avoid this.
Thanks in advance,
m0
P.S. I search but frankly was uncertain what to put as search words to increase the applicable hits
Here's the low-down: The company I work for has required all managers to use email capable mobile devices. As a result, my manager was issued an HTC Snap through our company's Sprint account. The device is solid enough itself, but we're having some trouble getting it setup on our company email. We go through messaging, setup an internet email account with all the correct servers (IMAP) and login information, but every time we try to connect, the device says it wasn't able to establish a connection.
Now, a couple other managers got Treo Pro devices and we ran into the same problems, however on the Treo, there's an option under messaging to setup Outlook email which, when we plugged in the company server information, everything went through flawlessly. (Curiously, this option is missing on the Snap. Possibly a difference between WM pro and standard?)
On a side note, I was able to setup my Fuze to access our company's email through both the Outlook option and as a standard email account. I have also been able to get it working with no problem with my T-Mo SDA, however both of my devices were on AT&T and the later is, of course, WM5.
I am able to setup Gmail IMAP on the Snap with no problem, so I know the device is able to handle it.
So what I'm trying to find out is if anyone else has encountered a similar problem with their Snap accessing email accounts from private servers. If so, have you found a work around?
The only alternative I can come up with is to get a Treo, but to be honest, my manager is having a hard enough time adjusting to the Snap. I do NOT want to introduce a touch-screen to the learning curve. (He is fresh off a Moto ic502.)
Problem solved. Turns out, the 'outlook email' option on the WM pro devices is the same as going to ActiveSync and setting up an exchange server. All of his contacts and emails are coming through fine.
i have 3 email accounts in my HD2, i can receive emails without a problem EXCEPT.... when i delete emails, i always have to do it twice.
The ones from the HD2 and the ones from the server, is there anyway so i can just do it once?
If you delete the emails off the HD2 it does not delete them off of the server. You will have to do that each time if you start on the HD2.
I may be wrong on this (and I am sure I will be corrected if I am), but I believe that if you delete the amils off the server first then upon refresh the HD2 will not find them anymore so you may only have to delete them in one place depending on where you start, but I need that verified.
Greetings. A long-time Android user and have setup many phones on both pop3 and corporate e-mail systems.
This has me perplexed. Another community had no answer so hopefully someone here can help. I have this issue with THREE S7's (2 edges) on TWC e-mail I have setup so I know it is not just one phone. I should have noted in that title that my S5 was on 5.0 lollipop by the time I stopped using it, not JB.
I have always used the standard e-mail app with a Time Warner POP3 account. I am familiar with IMAP but up until MM or the S7, the way it worked was great for me. I setup the phones for "delete from server when deleted on phone", or whatever the wording has changed to...and I have always had my desktop outlook client set to "delete from server". So during the day, all my e-mail was on the phone unless I deleted it. At the end of the day, Outlook would download what was left. But here is the different behavior. With my last phone, an S5 (and all prior android phones), when that phone next connected to that POP3 server, all of the e-mail that was no longer there would disappear from the phone. Yes, I am 100% sure I have been using the POP3 server/port number. This is how android behaved prior to the S7/MM. Now an Ipad always just left the e-mail on there (using the same server and ports). And.....that is what the S7 with Marshmallow is doing now. It will not delete any email from the phone when it syncs, you have to delete manually. And yes, I know that is how most people say POP3 works, but I am just explaining how things have been working to this point.
I know the obvious suggestion is that I have been using an IMAP setup for the last 10+ years. I can assure you I have not. The phones are setup with POP3 accounts using the POP 3 server/port. And Outlook is absolutely setup as a POP 3 account.
In fact, my old S5 is in airplane mode but on wifi. I just refreshed my TWC e-mail on my S5 and it still behaves EXACTLY the way it used to. All the old e-mail went away and only the e-mail that came in since I closed outlook showed up. So what has changed with the MM e-mail client behavior or e-mail settings? I see no new settings in there for this.
If this behavior is now "as expected" or an "enhancement", I am going to have to figure out how to switch to IMAP without messing up everything I have saved locally now in multiple folders and is working. I don't want to keep anything on the ISP's server, I want access to it during the day, then at the end of the day I want outlook to suck it all down. And then I want my phone to start downloading email after that moment that Outlook cleared out the e-mail for the new day....
Thanks for any help! Other than this e-mail issue (and the garish e-mail client colors) I love the device.

I have exactly the same issue after receiving the Marshmallow update on a Samsung Galaxy S2 tablet yesterday, and I also have done email setup many times on various devices. I've seen many posts about this problem (bug) in various forums but no solution other than to abandon the stock email client. My work email server is pop3 and has no IMAP option. Very frustrating and no doubt a "feature" of MM.
After setting up multiple MM devices, the only solution that worked for me unfortunately involves IMAP.
I use IMAP on my phone and tablet, and pop3 on my PC desktop client. This most closely mimics the behavior of android devices prior to MM.
With the extensive discussion and analysis and fixes when even a little prompt is changed or some other minor item, it amazes me that this obvious change was never explained by the android code writers in detail. Like you, it was all user forum discussions that confirmed the behavior but no fix other than the workaround.
