Disable low battery warning and dimming - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Anybody know how to disable the low battery restrictions? I like to get every last drop out of my battery before swapping it out. Currently rooted.

You do know that letting Li-Ion batteries fall below about 15-20% on a regular basis will significantly reduce their lifespan and ability to hold a full charge.

I'm desperately trying to find the code to stop these. The auto screen dimming and low battery warnings drive me crazy (the screen dimming in particular. It makes it SO dim it effectively makes the phone in the last five percent completely useless.) If I find a way to disable it in the system, I'll let you know. Till then, I use an app called adjbrightness to force the screen back up to useable brightness when it dims at low battery. (And before any of you who misunderstand what we're talking about responds, the screen dimming that occurs at the last five percent is not the "power saving" feature turning on. We've obviously completely disabled that in the settings. It dims anyway.)

How do I do that, I searched for years for an answer already but haven't found any information. Somehow, my phone magically updated (not my fault) to MF12 (AT&T Android 7.0) and I LOKI rooted it with Safestrap. Now, when I dunk it in water, the moon is pink. Oh, and I'm not a Noob. I've had 768 Android phones and 1 iphone, so I know what I am doing. So if you guys will to do everything for me...I mean...I mean... do anything for me I would be so happy. I have to go post 8 already asked and answered questions in the General section now, so please don't tell me to read for any answers...'cause you guys are condescending dicks. Any help?
How about now...any help for me yet?

I actually searched and found this one and responded to an old post. funny huh? now, perhaps with all that time you wasted carefully constructing your cute little response, perhaps you might be able to offer up something that is a bit more constructive and helpful? Thank you in advance. fykmamfcs

Sweet! Now I know how to disable the screen dimming when the battery gets to 5% - oh wait, I still don't know? Does anybody know?

I did not know this. I thought it was better to fully discharge before charging again?

I used this app, works great for me:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.pruss.superdim

^That Root Dim app kicks ass, great app and a fair solutions. Bummer we have to work around but hey it works. I have a zerolemon and 5% is good for quite a long time, that dimmer made the phone useless in direct sunlight. screwed me over a few times..
thanks for the tip

20%, 5%, 1%, it really doesn't matter.
Your phone screams "0%" and shuts itself down when the battery hits about 3V. The battery protection circuit only kicks in at 2.5V. When your phone switches itself off you can safely leave the battery "empty" for at least a year or two before it self-discharges beyond repair.
All those "keep your battery above x %" superstitions are in the same boat as the long debunked "deleting batterystats.bin calibrates your battery" myth.

well this conversation has been highly entertaining and shows the deep divide between "leave your battery to run out" or "don't let your battery completely run out" either way how one manages their battery is their business ?

About the warning sound on older devices:
1) rooted android
2) replace system/media/audio/ui/LowBattery.ogg with a still ogg file.
I hope it will help

Battery life

The Battery in my mini behaves like it is worn out. That is, it drains very quickly and charges very quickly. Just to be sure that I have a working phone if something unexpected happens, when not in use the phone is on the cradle charging. I have a second battery on order and am hoping that the new battery will perform better than the first.
I have NoData installed and all access to 3G is blocked unless I start wifi or bluetooth. Otherwise there is nothing exceptional about the way I have the phone configured. I do check the weather twice a day and run the stocks option, and I do use it to listen to music with bluetooth stero head set maybe an hour a day.
I hate to think that this is all I can expect. If so, I will always have a battery freshly charged battery in the cradle and change batteries daily.
Howz everybody else doing? Are you getting the same sort of performance from the battery that I am?
i have same problem. i think it's a problem in current roms..
last week i saw a rom with this title "a new unlock rom by fixed battry life problem" but i don use that cuz i jus use original roms
My battery is good enough. One to two days of use.
I use the phone a lot for calls, mobile excel, off line information search (such as dictionary, tranlators, encyclopedia), calendar scheduling, gps navigation (thru navicomputer), and taking notes everyday. A few to moderate number of text per day. Plus occassional online social stuffs, music, photo browsing, and ebook reading. (When i lock down to some nice ebook topics, i can read for about an hour or two.)
With all these, the battery can typically last for more than a day. Although i haven't really tested if it can last a full 48 hours. Very rarely, i can run down to a dangerously low 20% or 10%. But never experienced an empty battery shut down yet.
For all this, i'd say it's good enough. Not spectacular. But not disappointing.
I'm particularly impressed with the battery performance under hours of gps use.
I don't really know if the gps or the battery is the great performer. But i'm quite satisfied with the performance in this department.
In fact, the acquiring of gps signal is so good, coupled with its great stamina, i decommissioned my dedicated gps device and removed it from the car, and then use HD mini as my primary navigation device.
4/2/2011 and i want to talk about battery life too...
I got my HTC hd mini with the latest maryone WWE rom, but
1st, never charges up to 100% but only 90%
2nd, I have no CHT installed
3rd, with some messages send and recieve, battery falls to 40% in 3-4 hours...
What the hell is happening?...

I'm using automatic backlight. My unit does not behave that way.
Whatever settings you have, you should be able to charge to 100%. Not being able to charge to 100% is a sure sign that there's something wrong with the battery.
I'm trying to help this guy find answers, using his description, and supplying the most probable explanation.
I see nothing wrong with that.
I don't answer "defective device" to each and every question in this forum. Try to check. I got a couple of hundred posts. I'm sure "defective device" doesn't show up in all of them. Not even half. Not even one fourth.

About the 90%, i think is about the ROM or the Taskbar. In previous roms i had not that problem...

Haha, indd!
So thanx for the help anywayz guys!
My post, "Looks like it's defective", is a suggestion. It looks that way. It's for the owner to verify it himself. We make suggestions of possible answers. When did i insist it is indeed defective? Or even confirm that it is?
Suggesting it could be defective can help. Some had their units check, and confirmed they're defective. Some cannot confirm. For those who do, at least they got the replacement early. It's not 100% kill rate.
In my area, from the people i know, the defective rate is more than 50%. It's a good thing HTC is quick to replace most of them without much hassle. My supposed "30" post with the word defective doesn't even come close to 50% of my posts. And i'm sure not all of them is a straight shooting down of every unit i commented on. So what's the point? Trying to humiliate fellow posters? Do you get satisfaction doing such things?
Funny can be funny. You seem to have the habit of looking for the threads i posted in and shoot down every mention of defective. And then try to defeat my comment in the most sarcastic way. You keep following me around. I'm not famous. So don't waste your time doing so. It won't make you rich.
You hit someone in the head, and then said "chill out", with a wink. Doesn't make sense. You want to provoke people. And then appear very calm and peaceful.
You wanna make jokes? Sure. I actually find the first few ones amusing. Then the more you keep on doing this, it's obviously turning out to be sarcasm.
Are you provoking me to hit back at your other comments? Well, i'm not interested.
I've picked up a few useful pieces of suggestions in this forum. That's is the reason I'm trying to contribute back to try to help others. Especially the newbies. Like how i started.
That's my only point. I'm not here to amuse you, or to satisfy your ego trip.
If i've gone too far with my effort to help, someone please tell me. So that i will stop trying to contribute.

I don't understand how a custom ROM can create such a errors. If you use the packages of the stock ROM, nothing in the software changes, so normally behaviour stays the same. Have you tried running a stock ROM?

[strange] battery drain if phone is put beside my bed

just want to share my strange experience here. i had a battery drain issue (about 60 mA) almost everytime I slept. it turned out it only happened when I put my phone beside my bed! you know the gap between the bedding and the wood? that's where I placed my phone. just last night I tried to prove this theory once again by putting my phone there. and just as expected, currentwidget shows 60 mA of battery drain. then I moved my phone to my desk and some minutes later the drain is stable (8 mA). what's probably the cause of this, you think?

Most likley you are masturbating too much and causing too much friction near you bed which is causing a drain in energy from your battery as it will be in your energy field.
You can stop this drain by...
a) wrapping your head in tinfoil
b) wanking less.
Thats obviously just a coincident.
But, here's my theory:
When I have my phone near when trying to sleep, I play some games, browser internet etc (when it's not near, I just sleep), so you might have a lot of apps running, some of the apps are stupid and would cause high battery usage event when you turn phone screen off.
My solution was using autokiller on screen off, so when I turn if off now it would kill all those apps giving me stable long battery usage no matter where you put your phone.

No offense, but I'm pretty sure it's not a coincident, because since I put my phone on the desk the drain doesn't happen anymore. And I've been doing this for some weeks. But last night, out of curiosity I put the phone in the bedside gap again and voila, 60 mA. Maybe there's magnet inside my bed or something?

Nice theories here
My guess is that the signal is not as good when placed beside your bed, so the phone uses more battery in order to get a strong enough signal.

Check your mattress and blankets for bedbugs. They are known to love Android, and are probably using your phone while you sleep. If you keep it in WinMo while you sleep, they won't bother with it, as even bedbugs have the sense to stay away from anything Micro$haft

[Q] Alarms & Notifications

After a fair search I am still yet to find an answer to my question. With the ever increasing amount of fantastic tasks our smartphones can achieve for us nowadays I find it hard to believe that if I turn my device off I am unable to get alarms or notifications.
I have used several Android Roms on my HD2 & yet to find one that is able to achieve this, which leads me to believe its a across the board Android "thing"?
Its not an overly important thing but I just find it quite odd that my ancient Sony Ericsson & Nokia handsets are able to do this even tho their nearly antiques.
If anyone has anyone has any ideas or solutions please reply.
Many thanks.
I have never came across or heard of a phone or app that was designed to turn on the phone simply to retrieve a notification. I (think) i have heard of an app that if your phone is stolen it can turn it on the device if its been turned off but i have not heard of this feature to be used to gather your notifications. What model phones do you say have this feature?
I don't recall the name of the Nokia I had but the Sony Ericsson was a k550i to be honest I don't think it was able to turn on automatically for notifications, but it was able to for say a alarm to wake me in the mornings. As I said it's pretty unimportant really but quite funny nonetheless with today's technological advances.
Why the heck would this even be beneficial? The only way this is possible is if the device stays awake and doesnt fully power down. Plus it would take its own OS in order to do this as the original OS takes a few minutes to load.. This is really stupid and i cant see how anyone wants this.. Just put your device in standby sheesh. -.-
I'm very sorry for my stupidity but I don't see how it is beneficial to try belittling people either? It was merely a question, as I pointed out unimportant but also quite strange how an older device has an auto on option for alarms. If you don't have anything constructive to add? I wish you all the best.
Older phones had volatile memory, and so when turned off they were actually in a low power state.
if you left them 'turned off' for long enough, the battery would be flat and the rom would be back to factory conditions, all data wiped.
the upside was that this low power state meant they were able to monitor for alarms and wake up as necessary.
With non-volatile nand chips, this low power state is no longer needed, and when our hd2 is off, it is really off, so no power to monitor for alarms,

Im sorry i didnt mean to "belittle" anyone or sound mean, harsh, it just felt in your OP that you were bashing the android devs and android in general.. But i seriously dont see a point to having notifs during off stage considering in standby you have a power drain of 1~10ma which is nothing. Again i appoligize for any "belittlement" i caused.
No offence taken or meant at all. I certainly wasn't bashing anyone's work if fact without being a brown noser I have nothing but thanks and praise for the magnificent work the developers have put into not only Android but the whole XDA community.
And also thanks too for your reply regarding the question I thought it must have something to do with a standby like state in the device, I'm happy to leave my phone on to receive my alarms and notifications. I guess I should stop whining and just get an alarm clock lol!

That would work although you could always simply put the phone in airplane mode in standby and it loses around 1 percent battery every three hours, more than enough for a single night

[Q] Damn Wakelocks!

Can anyone tell me if this is normal? I'm really trying to nip this wakelock issue in the bud, and I'm getting REALLY frustrated. I was seeing google services take up more resources than even the display, so I've turned off all location services and Google Now, and the Google services resource hogging went down.
Now I'm seeing high "keep awake" times in GSAM from the Kernel itself. I guess my battery drain isn't *that* bad (about 1.5% per hour) and that's with 1 hour of screen on time...but what's the deal with the wakelocks?! I'm assuming "keep awake" isn't counting the screen on time, right? 1 hour 32 minutes of keep awake seems excessive to me in only 13 hours time.
Can someone please tell me if this is normal for the Kernel? If it's not location services I don't know what else it could be.
TIA!!
p.s. What happened to the upload image option??

You really need to stop over thinking your devices and use them. You did the same thing for the last 2 years with your Nexus.

Hey man I remember you from the AOKP gnex forum. Did you pick up the N3 too? You're 100% correct...I really have no idea why I'm always *so* obsessed over battery life/drain. It's like an OCD that itches and compels me to have my devices run as efficiently as humanly possible. It's a crappy obsession too, because it's gonna be a VERY long time before any device is even near perfect.
You would think I'd be enjoying this insane battery life as compared to what I used to get on the gnex. I'm getting well over a full day and sometimes over 8 hours screen on time, but no, I'm obsessing all over again. To my credit I do think my gnex did really have some issues though - I couldn't even get close to getting through the day without having to recharge, and I had the extended 2100 mAh battery. I was having to charge that damn phone like every 8 hours with minimal usage.
I seriously thank you for making me wake up and smell the roses. I'm just gonna enjoy this beautiful phone. And for the first time in a very long time I have absolutely no desire to throw a ROM on my device!! I think that speaks to how great the phone is.
Hey, yup that's me. I actually grabbed a Note 3 in the Amazon screw up and will have it in hand tonight. I appreciate you not taking my statement as a personal shot and exactly how I intended it. There will always be something you can find wrong in a device if you're looking for it. And yes, the Gnex sucked

Yeah man, I may be complaining a little bit about it, but make no mistake, you're gonna be blown away by this phone. 8 hours of screen on time? That's just insane. The s-pen is amazing with all its features and handwriting recognition, pen window, etc... I'm in love with it. And I have a good amount of features turned on that aren't hurting the battery life at all. Not to mention, as expected the phone is faaaaast. It's kind of amazing how much of a step up it is from the gnex. :good:
And yeah thanks again, I needed someone to snap me out of it and realize EXACTLY what you said - I need to just enjoy using this beautiful phone and stop trying to pick it apart. Sites like this especially are also a bad influence - it's ridden with OCD modders/flashers/tinkerers. It's all good though, I'm very happy and I'm not even gonna update or root the phone...it's not even necessary.

I politely disagree with overthinking the phone. IMO, it's supposed to be an endless expansion of a playground for you to make the device yours and I always find myself tinkering. It has paid off through knowledge gained along with simple fun and pride for the awesome state my phone is in now.
For the battery life issue, I would recommend first installing Wakelock Detector and open it, select the top icon to toggle to "wakeup triggers". Keep in mind that BetterBatteryStats works fine as well. Wakeup triggers are nice because they'll tell you a number of times that a certain app waked your device when it tries to sleep.
I see it like "how dare google services wake MY device when i don't use google talk and/or have sync turned off" How to fix the certain wakelock will be my next post after you report back more detailed info on it if you'd like
I've fixed this issue. I cleared the main cache from settings...storage, then rebooted. Now instead of .5 - 1%/hr drain, I just got 6 hours of nice deep sleep with ONE percent drain.
THIS is what deep sleep should look like. and everything I had turned on before was still enabled the whole time...wifi, bt, smart stay, etc.
Android system process: stay awake time 2 minutes! Success!

Do you mind sharing what you've done to get to this point? (Besides just in relation to Google Services...)

Hey, np. I froze a lot of apps, including all Samsung and all Verizon apps. Then I turned off all location services. I'm mostly on WiFi all day and don't really need location services, so I just turn them on before a trip when I know I'll need the gps/nav.

Ok, nothing new then. I was expecting more intense measures for some reason.
Thanks though.

Note 3 battery drops quickly (needs recalibration)

Wherever I charge my Note 3 fully, even if I leave it on for extra 30 mins, unplug charger and reboot the phone, phone comes on to 98%. Even when I charge full and just unplug, it drains to 98% on idle in 20 to 30 mins. Whenever it gets to 98% then it stops draining. I believe I need to recalibrate?
I have tried everything I can but to no avail! Every good re calibration app with super reviews! Still nothing! Even Manual recalibration and FULL WIPE (Including Internal SD), tried total drain to 0% and switched off itself too.
Need suggestions. Cheers!
the battery will charge to 100% then turn off and allow the device to go down to about 95% before recharging back up. It stops you from overcharging your battery and destroying it, there is no drama with your battery from what you describe mine does exactly the same thing on both devices I have had

I understand u very well, but it just seems off! Because going down to 98% without even 'touching' the phone, NO WAKELOCKS, nothing serious enough at least... And it wasn't always this way. Just started about a month ago or so. My S2, S3, and S4 never did like so... But thanks for your time bro!
Nothing to worry. It's all ok man.

Even mine does the same, not sure though why.

Thank you bhai! But, do you think it's MJ7 firmware? Battery is not as good as MI2, and earlier. And can you we flash MJ6 over MJ7? Since both have the new bootloader, it should work fine yes?
Mine does the same! 98% limit.
I get 10hrs usage before recharging again. :good:
Stop being so anal - . Battery will drop slightly, mine does it, as do many others in this thread. 100% to 98% is nothing. It's usually after 90% that you start to see the real battery life anyway.

Do you understand words have more than one meaning? - In this instance you "seem" to think that the term anal is used in a sexual context. Whether it's a miscomunication in language/Lost in translation or you are just too stupid/naive to realise.. I do not know. - So think before you start crying in a thread next time. A word you may say in your country may offend many here also -
-- As for the battery percentage question, I gave an answer for that, so stop being anal about it.
What you said is same as saying dont be an a**hole!! And second dont refer other people as being stupid/native just because you know 1 or 2 things!
About the battery % it isnt a problem. Its normal system fuction it happens to everyone including me. And I get 10hrs of use with single charge.
What didnt u understand, mr.Smart?!!

Calling someone anal does not constitute the same as saying someone as you put it "an a**hole!!" - I never called you stupid or "native" (Naive is what I said) I merely stated I didn't know if you were either of these you implied otherwise... I never claimed to know anything, So your point is moot. (Google it if you're stuck)
for the record ---
Noun
1.
anal personality - (psychoanalysis) a personality characterized by meticulous neatness and suspicion and reserve; said to be formed in early childhood by fixation during the anal stage of development (usually as a consequence of toilet training)

Now do me a favour and give up, Cause you're boring me.
-- Again with the battery situation, it's perfectly normal, It seems this subject has been hijacked by someone who has obviously got lost in translation and has disctracted the thread.
Stay away from Battery calibration Apps, they can play havoc with your phone also, at first they work but they always have a tendancy to mess up at some point.
Unless your battery is draining at a crazy speed I wouldn't worry too much. - You should be getting about 15-20 hours with an average of 3-4hrs screen time out of the devce with moderate use.
Sorry i mean stupid/naive not native.
Mate, there is no need for all these...
If im boring dont reply.
Next time try to explain without putting anyword to show or trying to make people feel stupid. This is my point.
We arent in english gLass and the thread is worldwide, just get to the point and move on.
Just that.
My battery is okay...I get 10hr of heavy use. 3g and bluetooth always on. My s3 had only 6hrs of heavy usage.
I dont complain of battery draining is normal for my usage.
Im also checking the wakelocks and batt consumption at night. Still in progress.
Sent from my SM-N900 using Tapatalk
So moving on, you get a solid 10 hours with heavy use currently? - how is your consumption at night? - mine drops about 5% over a period of about 7-8 hrs roughly.
I average around 25 hrs currently with moderate use and WiFi on all the time

My Note 3 also drops from 100% to 98% very quickly even with no use of the phone. It also seems to drop to the low 90% range very quickly but then it settles down and battery life is excellent.Surfing the web seems to use more power than watching videos.I lose about 3 to 4% overnight.
I noticed my battery discharge faster after upgrading to latest MJ7 firmware. Before the update, my battery lasted very long. Hopefully samsung release a small update fix on this battery bug.
