[Q] Alarms & Notifications - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

After a fair search I am still yet to find an answer to my question. With the ever increasing amount of fantastic tasks our smartphones can achieve for us nowadays I find it hard to believe that if I turn my device off I am unable to get alarms or notifications.
I have used several Android Roms on my HD2 & yet to find one that is able to achieve this, which leads me to believe its a across the board Android "thing"?
Its not an overly important thing but I just find it quite odd that my ancient Sony Ericsson & Nokia handsets are able to do this even tho their nearly antiques.
If anyone has anyone has any ideas or solutions please reply.
Many thanks.

I have never came across or heard of a phone or app that was designed to turn on the phone simply to retrieve a notification. I (think) i have heard of an app that if your phone is stolen it can turn it on the device if its been turned off but i have not heard of this feature to be used to gather your notifications. What model phones do you say have this feature?

I don't recall the name of the Nokia I had but the Sony Ericsson was a k550i to be honest I don't think it was able to turn on automatically for notifications, but it was able to for say a alarm to wake me in the mornings. As I said it's pretty unimportant really but quite funny nonetheless with today's technological advances.

Why the heck would this even be beneficial? The only way this is possible is if the device stays awake and doesnt fully power down. Plus it would take its own OS in order to do this as the original OS takes a few minutes to load.. This is really stupid and i cant see how anyone wants this.. Just put your device in standby sheesh. -.-

I'm very sorry for my stupidity but I don't see how it is beneficial to try belittling people either? It was merely a question, as I pointed out unimportant but also quite strange how an older device has an auto on option for alarms. If you don't have anything constructive to add? I wish you all the best.

Older phones had volatile memory, and so when turned off they were actually in a low power state.
if you left them 'turned off' for long enough, the battery would be flat and the rom would be back to factory conditions, all data wiped.
the upside was that this low power state meant they were able to monitor for alarms and wake up as necessary.
With non-volatile nand chips, this low power state is no longer needed, and when our hd2 is off, it is really off, so no power to monitor for alarms,

Im sorry i didnt mean to "belittle" anyone or sound mean, harsh, it just felt in your OP that you were bashing the android devs and android in general.. But i seriously dont see a point to having notifs during off stage considering in standby you have a power drain of 1~10ma which is nothing. Again i appoligize for any "belittlement" i caused.

No offence taken or meant at all. I certainly wasn't bashing anyone's work if fact without being a brown noser I have nothing but thanks and praise for the magnificent work the developers have put into not only Android but the whole XDA community.
And also thanks too for your reply regarding the question I thought it must have something to do with a standby like state in the device, I'm happy to leave my phone on to receive my alarms and notifications. I guess I should stop whining and just get an alarm clock lol!

That would work although you could always simply put the phone in airplane mode in standby and it loses around 1 percent battery every three hours, more than enough for a single night

Yes that's what usually tend to do, although it doesn't allow for your emails, notifications etc it certainly conserves our battery juice, thanks for your reply Nigeldg

Well the thing is I personally would not like to be woken up in the middle of the night for a notification anyway, and you get them as soon as you turn your phone on in the morning

Battery Saving Tip

Hey Guys,
Not sure if anyone has ever posted this but I thought I would share how I am able to get 2 days plus on single charge...
I only recomend this if you are not totally dependent on your email, facebook, gtalk, etc to sync.
I have my email accounts on my phone but I don't need to receive them instantly meaning they are not dire important so this works for me.
Android's biggest battery killer, which most of you probably know, is data syncing in background and just data connection in general. What I personally do is keep 3G data off at all times by going to settings->wireless and networks->mobile networks->3G Data and uncheck it.
Obviously with this off, you wont be able to connect to web, get emails, download apps, etc... But if you live in a 4G area like me, all I do every once in awhile is flip on 4G from dropdown let it sync or do what I got to do then flip 4G back off so there is no connection anymore... This will save so much of your battery but it is up to you to check things when you need to....
I hope this helps some people because it helps me a lot... I always recommend this to customers that come in my store if they are not depending on work email and such...
Let me know if you have any questions!
You can hold down the power button and click Data mode to toggle 3g
I have done those things since I've had this phone in august and everytime I talk about getting great battery life the haters come out and say well you didn't have sync on blah blah. Freaking retards. Especially if you are sleeping why not turn off sync for the email that is not going to come anyways. I haven't seen the battery life yet as I did since eclair though.

You can get juice defender to do this automatically as well. You can also have it only activate data when the screen is on or for certain apps. Just sayin

Personally, I think juice defender is crap and battery life doesn't save as much as doing it yourself... Im just saying...
Actually my biggest killer is display. Our devices our the only ones with 90%+ battery usage for display, yet they advertised that it required 20% less battery!

I know! The display is a killer but even so doing this with full brightness and I can still push a day and a half... I usually keep my brightness all the way down though and manage to push upto 3 days...
interesting thread i am going to try some of these suggestions
I get 56 hours using Ultimate Juicedefender.
Wow...i use to get great battery life. I'm using lowest brightness setting, sfr, and ultimate juice defender and getting only like 16 to 24 hours of life.
What else are you guys doing? I use to get 50 hours but not anymore..
I thought I knew all the tricks in the book. But I use my phone constantly. Above average I would say.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
I am not sure, I keep lowest brightness and keep data off almost all day except for occasional checking but maybe 10 minutes total of data being on... I have noticed with EC05 battery life lowered even on complete stock... Most people in my store hve epics and all have suffered worse battery since the update... It didnt matter if it was OTA or OTW...
Maybe try and get a new battery...
I think the reasons the 'haters' come out is simply because you're stating your getting better battery life and then revealing you're castrating your phone. It is a smartphone after all. It's supposed to do all those things you turn off. This isn't a phone which is only supposed to make calls. I mean, if I wanted to check my email once a day, I'd simply do it while I'm in front of a computer.
I don't believe I'm one of said-haters but possibly providing a bit of information on where they're coming from as well.
I think it's well documented that Android phones pretty much suck in terms of battery life, especially when compared to Blackberry. Man, RIM got it right on that aspect.

How is that castrating your phone? I can still do everything else on the phone... You don't need a constant data connection to use it like a PDA. Do all tabs have a constant data connection? No, so are they not going to be considered PDA because they lack internet sometimes? no
I am sorry to say but if your managing your phone and doing things to better, that is not castrating, that is good device management and what should be done so it runs how you want...

Well, it sorts of like taking a porsche and not pushing it past 2nd gear. Some people are happy with it, some are not. On one hand, battery saving posts can be thought as misleading, if the premise is that you dont compromise any functionality. I prefer to charge my phone everyday and not worry about battery, but when your battery is dying when you need it in the evening, than one is of a different opinion entirely.
One thing which I realized to late, is if you are at work in the office or somewhere with wifi, you can toggle 3G off and not lose any functionality, since wifi uses a lot less juice.
I have tried I new battery, I have three that I alternate between. I have no idea what has happened to my phone. It could be the phone itself

And I did say from the beginning what it does and what you loose from it... The only reason it was posted was to try and help people who may be newer to android and needing to squish extra minutes out of their phone for the day... Or they may find themselves not near a charger and almost dead and need their phone so turn off data to preserve the battery... I mean it doesn't "cripple" your phone to turn off data... I can still play angry birds, check my calendar, call people, text, etc. You don't need your phone to have data to use its features...

Phone restarts when the led flashlight is on for 60 seconds?

On every rom I have used, when I'm outside in a pitch black situation and I need my flashlight on my phone. When I leave it on for more than 60 seconds, the phone automatically restarts. I suppose because the LED gets too hot? This is on Torch bright widget or widgetsoid flashlight using method 2 for led. However I'm fairly sure that using heart rate monitor app in the market the phone can stay on with the flashlight for more than 60 seconds. I'm going to test this now. This is weird since my HTC HD2 could leave the led flashlight on for hours if I wanted. Well I never had it on for more than say 20 minutes but it worked and the phone never restarted. Any help would be great, thanks!
By the way this happens on all roms including with all kernels and all radios.
I wouldn't leave it on for more than 10 seconds at a time. That is just plain stupid.
Damn I hate useless replies!
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Ok try this out. You're going to burn out your LED and the reason it restarts is from the heat. When you take a pic in your camera app does the LED flash for 60 seconds? um no.... you need a flashlight? Get those small LED keychain ones.. how's that for useful? Use your head....
And tour HD2 does not have a Tegra 2 in it so perhaps why that one does not overheat. Either way you'll kill the LED. They aren't designed to be used like that.
I have the exact same problem on CM7 - was fine on my HD2 for a very long time too
At times I find myself needing a flashlight for a minute or 2 at times. The HD2's LED never overheated unless you left in death ray mode but I'm not sure since I can't remember ever having a problem ever. Just use regular brightness at a reduced continuous voltage therefore reducing heat production. That's not stupid to need my f*ing phone as a flashlight for a couple minutes when needed. LED's are very efficient and can take a hell of a beating, however they're efficient in nature so leaving it on may reduce it's life sure. But has anyone reported their cell phone led light going out? I have never heard of it so stop posting stupid idiotic comments. Posting dumb offensive comments makes you look stupid. You could respond with an intelligent response unleashing to the world your hidden genius. Instead you decide to do what you do best.
If anyone who may be having the same problem. I have found a solution to the problem. Downloading instant heart rate monitor will allow the light to stay on forever with no problems.

Noted and thought about. Wouldn't change my answer.
First of all you don't have to be a flamer, second....you have no clue what your talking about. The led light is led ...led lights put out insanely low amounts of heat...which is why that technology has been incorporated into growing plants...not that it's good ti leave the led on for too long but I have uses the led flashlight for about 30 minutes before on my ATRIX, ya it gets a little warm but that's it. Yes it's possible to burn it out over time but you will be fine for short durations. Why do you think there are so many flashlight apps, if they really caused that much damage google would remove those apps from the market.
And im not talking out if my ass because I know quite a bit on the topic of led technology.
The possible reason for your phone rebooting is because a lot of the flashlight apps out there aren't compatable with the ATRIX for some reason, don't ask me why. You need to download "droidlight" from the market because it was developed for Motorola phones by Motorola ...then I doubt you will be rebooting
But please don't talk like your an expert on the subject and give false information to people because it just adds to confusion for those that don't know. Im no expert on everything so I don't chime in on things I don't know about. Cheers

Tiny flashlight +led works great. Has a good widget as well. Don't recall having a timeout. Accidentally turned it on and fell asleep for hour. Woke up to a dead battery and a brown spot on the coffee table lol. Led was still kicking an hour later. I use mine all the time.

Its more than likely the app, I have the same problem using Tesla led + widget locker + cm7. Disregard about damaging your LEDs, as long as the proper voltage is applied... they will never burn out... if its getting HOT(not warm) then I would be worried. LED lights do have a "lifespan" but generally exceed it, tremendously.

I mean I don't really know anything about it, but if my LED light is on (for a flashlight) it get's noticeably hot within like 10 seconds...
I haven't quite had the same problem as the OP, but I was using TeslaLED with Widgetsoid (had a flashlight toggle in my rotary slider). I turned the screen on, and without unlocking used the flashlight like normal a few days ago, and had it on for 10+ seconds (after 10, my screen timed out like normal). I went to turn the screen on again though, and my entire phone froze - with the LED still on! I had to remove the battery...
I dunno all the technicalities of the LED, nor do I know if this was a freak accident and won't happen again (hopefully!). Might be a problem with TeslaLED/Widgetsoid, or maybe the screen shouldn't go off when the LED is on?
EDIT: Weird, I just tried it out again for fun, and it did in fact freeze my phone again lol. It did the exact same thing: turn on screen, turn on flashlight, use for like 10 seconds. Screen times out, flashlight flickers. Turn screen on, looks normal, but try to turn flashlight off, feel slight haptic feedback then froze.
Being an electrician by trade, I also specialize in luminaire devices, and tend to push LED devices over traditional flourescent, incandescent, halogen & HPS/MH lamps, for various reasons & applications. In fact LEDs last longer than the auxiliary components driving them .. which is why the still have a rated life span, many suppliers guarantee 12,000+ hours.

I don't know about everyone else but my led starts getting hot after only having it on for ~10 seconds. I try not to leave it on because of the heat. But yah I do leave it on for more than a minute all the time so it was probably the specific app causing a rare OS bug that caused it to crash.

Disable low battery warning and dimming

Anybody know how to disable the low battery restrictions? I like to get every last drop out of my battery before swapping it out. Currently rooted.
You do know that letting Li-Ion batteries fall below about 15-20% on a regular basis will significantly reduce their lifespan and ability to hold a full charge.

I'm desperately trying to find the code to stop these. The auto screen dimming and low battery warnings drive me crazy (the screen dimming in particular. It makes it SO dim it effectively makes the phone in the last five percent completely useless.) If I find a way to disable it in the system, I'll let you know. Till then, I use an app called adjbrightness to force the screen back up to useable brightness when it dims at low battery. (And before any of you who misunderstand what we're talking about responds, the screen dimming that occurs at the last five percent is not the "power saving" feature turning on. We've obviously completely disabled that in the settings. It dims anyway.)

I used this app, works great for me:

20%, 5%, 1%, it really doesn't matter.
Your phone screams "0%" and shuts itself down when the battery hits about 3V. The battery protection circuit only kicks in at 2.5V. When your phone switches itself off you can safely leave the battery "empty" for at least a year or two before it self-discharges beyond repair.
All those "keep your battery above x %" superstitions are in the same boat as the long debunked "deleting batterystats.bin calibrates your battery" myth.
well this conversation has been highly entertaining and shows the deep divide between "leave your battery to run out" or "don't let your battery completely run out" either way how one manages their battery is their business ?
About the warning sound on older devices:
1) rooted android
2) replace system/media/audio/ui/LowBattery.ogg with a still ogg file.
I hope it will help

Unexplainable phenomenon with galaxy y!!!!

Hi all.
Let me explain the situation. I have a galaxy y (cdma variant - sold in india). This has only been rooted. No custom roms, kernels, cwm or anything. Its used just to call a few numbers. It is charged every night and Tasker reboots the phone at 12 o'clock as it does with everybody elses phones in the house. Now, on one fine day, i had turned my phone off (i was on vacation) and the phone was simply lying there (with battery inside) and no charger connected. This is at 6:59 AM. The clock struck 7:00 AM and my weird phone......(wait for it)........powered itself on. Without any aid or support or charger. There are no settings for such a thing to happen nor any alarms for 7:00 AM. This phone is never on the internet and the same apps on it are on a variety of different phones in my house. It did this same thing for seven days in a row, exactly at 7:00 AM, no matter how i powered the phone off. Now, my experience with electronics has taught me that this kind of thing is impossible. Any ideas, theories, explanations?

7 days in a row?? heh....i dont think so.
Get your tin foil hat, "they" are coming. "They" may use your droid for the insidious purposes of tracking and enslaving you, the way it's acting you'd best smash it with at least an 8 lb. sledge...
LOL, really man? Ever hear of electrical resistance? Ever hear of resistance being the killer of all machinery... 2+2=?
GLITCH. Simple as that. No "phenomenon" unless you are reading too much into it...
Put it into perspective, it helps people a little. A car manufacturer makes millions of cars, a certain percentage are failures right off the line, some last longer than others. You're Galaxy is made of many millions (or billions) more parts all operating on a sub atomic level with electrons in place of gasoline, what's your chances of perfection there?

Explain further man.........seems weird that an electrical resistance can cause my phone to power on at 7 o'clock dot. Btw....I've come back from vacation......still happening here. Isn't it a bit too precise to be malfunction? Ill admit though, the title is theatrical. Its what I was aiming for.
Sorry but furthermore I must add that an unwillingness to poison yourself with caffiene and debug millions of lines of code and a need to have something complex function exactly as you wish are two incompatible variables in your system... Good luck with that...

So there aren't any ideas, theories or explanations. Thanks for clearing that up.....
Haha, no pleasing people these days, is there.. You want a device that somehow "magically" creates a touch controlled image on a display, contains gps, phone, SMS, wifi and mobile internet, oh and it has to do what you want right now if not sooner without a single error all while subject to infinitely variable environmental radiation at all different frequencies? Better get to work, it hasn't been done yet and you could make billions if you figure that out...

Correction......sarcasm neutralizes sarcasm. You seemed to be offended by the very idea of a phone malfunctioning in such a manner. So much so that you actually criticized the person who put it up. Atleast TomalinSGY had the decency to point it out without sarcasm. Yours is an answer, its not one that i havent considered. Im just checking if there is another... Whos to say that this software bug could be used by hackers to power on your phone when its clearly off. All hypothetical of course.

In usual cases the external interrupt needed to wake the proccy is provided by pressing and holding power but it seems that in your case a paranormal force is powering up the parallel plates of inbuilt micro capacitance which then buffer out voltage proportional to load current from source (batter) into mux and then to peripheral programming interface via an adc.
Hope I've explained everything

my 2 cents
most devices like phones and computers are actually on when they are 'off'. A small trickle of current remains to keep the clock ticking and detect when the power button is pressed. Now there are many phones (feature phones usually) that allow auto power on at certain times. so most likely it's a bug in the scripting or the programming of the OS. I would recommend restoring to factory, if that doesn't solve the problem then flash the stock rom again
Get that bloody phone , backup and flash it via Odin right away....Unless u are too scared to touch it too??
LOL....Dunno the reason , but if it bothers u , just format it....

Guide: how to get 48 hours EASY out of your droid turbo

So I pick up my Droid Trubo (only for the specs) and I noticed that Verizon is claiming that you can get a whole 48 hours off your phone with out having to charge your phone within those 48 hours. makes me giggle but the battery is a 3900mAh battery. Pretty sweet, but inevitably on day one release I have seen articles and posts of people claiming that they only get no less then 9-12 hours on there turbo before they have to charge..... (Not claiming I know all there is to phones) but I had a feeling that any one complaining about the battery on there phone probably (in fact i am 110% sure) that they have no idea what exactly takes up power usage on there phone. I charge my phone up to about 100 percent, I used it consistently watching you tube video's web browsing listening to music, all that jazz, you name it and I probably did it. After a whole 25 hours(in counting) my phone sat at a woping 67% battery charge. Verizon held up there part of the bargain and this is by no means them lieing to us. So I am going to start listing off on why your phone literally dies after only 5 hours.
1.Brightness: Thats rite folks, turning your brightness to the max is a very sexy way to speed up the process of killing your battery, I highly recommend that you simply set the brightness to automatic and you should be set. Brightness kills your battery, but this is not the only thing that you probably goofed in, lets read on.
1.Wallpaper: You know, I kinda don't consider this one to be much of a big deal, but it is true non the less(still kinda not that big of deal) but have LIVE wallpaper does consume much more power vs having just a normal wallpaper background.
3. gps/location : So I noticed that every one and there grandmother, turns on the GPS/location(well, more like you hit yes to turn it on and forgot about it sense) setting on there device for Google map, or maybe you want your friends to know where your making yourself look lost with selfie picks of Facebook or instagram. Now let me tell you having the gps setting to detect your location or use it on google maps KILLS YOUR BATTERY faster then you can say "How do i get to the control panel?". Generally on your average phone your looking at (if your lucky) a solid 4-6 hours before you have to charge your phone because you have this on all the time(and probably everything else I list aswell). The GPS tracking system is always on REGARDLESS if you are or not using google maps, facebook, instagram etc. I can imagine that with turbo you would only survive for a good 10 hours before you have to charge your phone again. Make sure you go into your phone setting and turn of gps location and only use it when you need it at that time.
Mobile and Wifi usage: Now, Of course this takes up power, but I always get a kick out of watching every one have there wifi AND there mobile data active at the same time. This is very effective for killing your phone sooner, rather then later. Dont get me wrong your phone is either going to use one or the other, but its still outputting power to keep a connection, VS having it actually turned off, and having it simply notify you that there is a connection available.
Now Maybe alot of you are like "this guy does not know what he's talking about I have this on all the time and I still only get 10 hours". If you are thinking this, I recommend you take the moment to stand up take 2 steps back and punch yourself in the stomach, when your able to breath come back and go through the steps in making sure that your phone does not have all these setting turn on at ones.
Ya, ultimately this is the bread and butter list that kills peoples battery's that I see all the time (dont play yourself, you know who you are) . So I guess I will go just a little more in-depth on how I get an easy 48 hours on the phone with no sweat.
Ultimately, when I am at my house, I keep my wifi data on, with my brightness set to auto. As far as Droids turbo goes, this will be easy peasy for your phone to get to the whole day, go ahead and watch some you-tube videos, hell take a bunch of pictures while your at it, (fun fact, your video recorder is pretty niffty for draining battery) I only turn my gps location on when I need to get from point A to Point B and always remember to turn it of after I am done using it.
I want to talk about 1 more technical thing before I Wrap this up, I notice that some people say "I checked my battery today and it says that this app took up 30% of my power! WTF? I disabled it and removed it). you guys mite want to pay better attention to the battery, for example, my phone lost about a good 5% after like 1-2 hours of you-tube or something, when I looked at the battery status rite from the get go, it told me that you tube took 70% of my power usage. but mind you, your phone is telling you it took up 70% of power in the 5% battery period. some people don't pay close attention to these details so when they go on there battery status at the end of the day they do back-flips for days on the fact that there app or (my favorite) screen took up so much power on there phones.
Ya my guide is not the best, just posting this out there to hopefully get this concept through to some people. I am just your average power user, with a nice phone, and a ton of trig homework to catch up on, feel free to ask me any question, I mite go and post this in the general/Q & A threads.
Just got done proof reading, If things are still terrible, I recommend you kill it with fire, and hyperventilate until your amazon prime order of frozen yogurt arrives at the back of your basement step.
UPDATE: Ok, just so I stop getting bombarded with these pointless reply's (who am I kidding some one is still gonna call me a dumbass am I rite?) this is what I expect for you guys to get out of this thread, I will use myself in this example).
ME : let's see so I turned off all my features on the phone (or for what ever reason some of you like to call it a dumb phone). Now everything is OFF.
- I am sitting down and I want to shoot a text or make a phone call to my friend. I do just that that and......OH SNAP! I don't need my mobile 4g lte to be turned on if all I am doing is sending/receiving text messages/phone calls. Sweet! BUT WAIT, I want to go on SPACE-BOOK AND want to know when people post comments on my selfies! Then I will simply keep my mobile data on 24/7(when I am at home switch to my wifi and turn off mobile) so I can retrieve those oh so important selfie updates! I know keeping mobile data on at all times will drain my batter faster then having it off, but for just posting comments on space-book, or doing web serfing that should be of no problem ESPECIALLY if you have the turbo. So flick the mobile data on if you want to know whats going on in your twitter or what have you. I don't twitter, space-book, instagram or any of that Personally, I only turn on mobile data when I need to web browse (I do heavy web browsing myself, but that wont be too much battery drain.). Thats just me. Pick your options and learn what takes up more power when you do it. Learn what you need to do to accomplish these goals through out the day because lets face it people, selfies make the world go round. I mean if you go to the gym and work out for 2 hours but did not take a selfie, then it does not count. every one know that! (to keep myself sain, you will notice I will constantly be mis pronouncing names and I will be using Selfies as a general term for "those people" that like to take pictures of everything. I have to point this out because some one will say "I dont just take selfies I take "insert stupid category here" with my phone! YES because I am sure what ever pictures you take is of that much different from selfies!")
2. Alrgiht! So I leave my mobile data on all the time go web serfing and I take selfies of myself looking lost in towns. No problem for the droid turbo! but you know what? I also want to watch a bunch of video's! whatching video's on your phone will of course drain the battery faster (stack that on with user number 1.) though it does take away more power from your phone its not that bad if the video is actually on your phone, what's that? you want to go to youtube and watch 720 or 1080p cat video's. Thats gonna cost more resources, your going to need your phone to output its data connection to start STREAMING 720 or 1080p cat video's! Thats pretty demanding for anyphone regardless. If you do it here and there through out the day, you will lose power faster, but if you stream 720p cat video's all day, then your turbo probably wont survive the 24 hour mark. (2 hours streaming cat videos and 2 girls one cup is not going to destroy your phone but it will require a nice chunk of your battery non the less).
3. HOLD ON NOW, I need people to know where I am at 24/7 so lets flick on that locations app! once again this will stack on to your demanding needs of power, 24/7 mobile data turn on with your 2 hours of streaming 720p cat video's and 2 girls 1 cup, with selfies (lets not forget your camera and video record do tend to take up power giving you those true HD pictures. Now you got your phone Twerking to constantly feed your location to your app. Then it costs even more power when you use it.
4. I also want max screen brightness and my Bluetooth (though bluetooth is not so bad, just depends how you use it) for my headphones....I also want to have high frequency mode turned on while im at it too so I can use gps!.....with a LIVE wallpaper!
Do you guys see where I am getting at with all this? you need to treat your phone like a car. you need to know what features take up how much power and how long you plan to keep them on. I am not telling you, to turn EVERYTHING OFF and boom 48 hours. I am telling you that your phone has a ton of power and its up to you to learn what apps and what features drain how much power and how fast and how long do you plann to use it? You may think its so small or it does not take that much power but the more you stack things on to your phone the more power its going to need. You need to think about it like if it was yourself. If I told you to walk for one mile you would totally (I hope) be fine doing it no sweat, but what If i told you to RUN for one mile your body is going to take way more energy to make you run at a descent pace vs walking. I really do hope (in my opinion) my fun explanation helps you guys understand the concept's of phone power usage. Over time if your like me and a few other power users I know, you will have absolutely no problems what so ever keeping your phone alive, because we piratically know when its going to die and when we will need to charge. comes with experience.
Final note: just remember, if you think this is stupid or all this is a waist of time, then I recommend punching yourself in the stomach and simply waiting for that amazon prime order of frozen yogurt to arrive at your door step. that's all I got to say, Im gonna go through and proof read this so it does not sound too dumb (i gotta get back to that trig homework). I need to emphasize though, if your gonna be naive and not see the point of my thread, just punch you self in the stomach and take a selfie saying you just got done working out, it works EVERY TIME, I promise!
U got pics of ur SOT? Seems like u know what ur doing and do basically what I do so I'd like to see screenshots of some decent times.
SOT?
I am assuming your asking me to take a picture of how long my phone has been from 100% to a impressive time, I will be more then happy to do that (this will also get my point out even better). Ill do it in a few hours sense its fully charged at the moment. That said, take note, the battery power usage that comes with your phone will not always show "everything" that was in use (as far as I know with the apps) good example will be, it saying something like "you-tube took up 8% Power" but it does not record or show the fact that I was using my 4g connection to watch 2 gigs worth of video's in 720p. Just throwing that out there. (also that is a commen example with my journey through phone usages through allot of devices.) any way, I will make one underway.
In for screenshots as well... I have already got almost 39 hours on my first charge, that was with shutting off Wi-fi and data while at work (horrible service in the plant). I do have a basic wallpaper, only thing I have not tried yet was the auto brightness, and location turned off, also usually don't pay much attention to turning off Wifi or Data while one is being used, will give it a try though and post some results as well! Charging currently and will post when I get an update!
Yes, of course, turn off all the features of your smart phone that make it smart.
Here's another tip, don't use your phone and the battery will last for weeks.
I'm not sure why 48 hours is the Holy Grail for people. You really can't get the phone on a charger while you're sleeping, or in the car, or at your desk? As long as the phone can make it a full day, I think that's pretty good. Most phones can't, the Turbo can.

What about setting location to Battery Saving Mode rather than high accuracy. this should make the positions available without turning on the GPS radio. Mabye a better compromise.. I found mine was on high accuracy.. I am sure that this was killing my battery more than necessary.

3. Sure, using navigation uses a LOT of battery power, but simply having the GPS on does not use a huge amount of your battery. Google is very aware of this, and that's why they have Google Location Services, where apps tie into that to access your last known location, and the majority of apps do not actually use the GPS to get your location. Many simple use the network location.
Mobile and Wifi usage: Now, Of course this takes up power, but I always get a kick out of watching every one have there wifi AND there mobile data active at the same time. Some of us rely on the GPS for other tasks besides navigation. This is why Google and developers have significantly improved into not relying on getting a GPS acquisition for every location request.

True, this is why it's good to look at the battery stats when your battery is nearly dead.
The biggest battery savings I find with lowest impact is turning off 4g when screen is off. I use llama for this and it works great. I dont have anything that important in an email that I need to have them constantly pushed. I don't use Twitter Facebook or any of those other apps were u get 8 million updates on what's going on. So having my data off of when my screen is off really saves a lot of battery.

True, since your phone is now a dumbphone with the screen off. That's fine if it works for you, but many of us use data for voice and SMS, such as those in VoLTE markets or use Hangouts for voice/SMS. The other significant con with turning data off with the screen, is that any phone tracking app like Android Device Manager or Cerberus can't report it's location, so you can't use it to find your phone if it's lost or stolen.
I enjoyed your post. You should post on forums geared for mainstream users too. I think they would get the most benefit out of your suggestions (as well as Verizon with reduced headaches from complaints). Of course people don't need to do everything you listed. They can pick and choose what trade offs they're willing to make.

Good job chaz man, you took the first step to being self aware of your phone, TURN OFF high accuracy, but as for the other mode.....let me ask you this, do you like to go around town ALOT, and while your lost in town you take selfies of yourself of yourself looking lost all the time, then you post em on instagram, or spacebook, or twitter or soothing? If you do this ALOT, then keep it on, just know it takes up power, if not, then turn it off and only turn it on when you need it. Theirs a cool widget on the top left of your phone called location, you can configure your location to only allow some apps to take advantage of your location. so if you let spacebook use gps location but deny good maps from using it then you will save allot more power. Keep in mind when you turn your location on (weather its in high frequency or not) it is using up power just to stay on, and when you finally do use it, that drains it EVEN more. It takes experience to know what just rite for your phone, for example, I always leave my wifi on but I always leave me mobile off. WHY well, wifi at your house does not require as much power, that being said I dont need my mobile data to be on to make phone calls and send text messages. I actually go and turn on my mobile data when I am no **** about to go on the internet to look somthing up. So unless you want to catch the latest updates, or you find yourself talking alot on space book, their wont be much of a point having your mobile data on even when you don't have wifi (remember mobile data puts a strain on your battery more then wifi) just DON'T have them on BOTH at the SAME TIME. IT's stupid and accomplishes nothing.

Geoff, I feel like you completely missed the point of this thread. This is not to tell you "how to run your phone" this is to make people self aware what actually takes up battery power, I use real life examples to make it easier to understand (also when you use real life examples it makes it allot easier to manipulate people in real life , of course I do this with the goals of helping people) theirs allot of things I want to say to you rite now, but I am too hungry to bother, maybe If I am up for it I will give you another reply later.

Speaking of NORMAL usage, IN MY OPINION. having your brightness turned on max, with live wall paper, blootooth running, with both wifi and mobile data turned on at the same time (yes there is a fine line difference even if your phone is using one and not the other) with gps location turn on at high frequency, with your phone streaming 720p video's and while taking 6 megs pictures of selfies of yourself looking lost in a town and recording stuff is by no means "normal usage"(unless you actually exactly all that 24/7, witch non of you dont, except for selfies, I know every one likes to get lost and make selfies. that being said, I am 100% sure there is some one here that only uses mobile data to brows websites or go on spacebook, but they have ALL the other setting's turned on. which is why I made this thread, because I know for a fact that alot of phone user's are not actually aware of what app or function tends to drain your batter faster then normal.
I am going to edit my main post and make a really good example about what I expect for everyone to get out of this thread, I am by no means a good teacher, just your average power user, with a ton of trig homework to catch up on, but check my post (assuming I can edit it, if not ill just post it on page 2) about what I want every to get out of my little fancy smanshy class. I called what his name a "ass clown" because he kept critiquing my advice with arguments "of his own". Guess I will explain that too, check back if interested.

I'm not sure why you are so defensive in your replies, I am pointing out that having data disabled with the screen off is not ideal for many people, and I explained why. I am certainly not the only one who relies on data-based messaging.
While many of your points are true, you are basically telling people to turn off features they do not use. As I said earlier, you could have made this a one line post and said "The following features impact battery life, leave them off until you need them, and ran through the list of WiFi, mobile data, BT, NFC, auto brightness, etc.".
I think what many expected from the thread title were tweaks to increase battery while maintaining functionality. Tweaks like disabling certain bloatware apps, disabling certain Motorola settings, changing WiFi or cellular modem settings, etc. Things that people don't already know about. Lets face it, most of the people on XDA are pretty tech savvy, and I'm sure they are aware that turning things off like WiFi, mobile data, bluetooth, and not running at 100% brightness will improve battery.

Just trying to help you get your point across... Anyone can say doing this, this, and this will help you get 100hrs screen on time. With no proof to back up your statement you just look like an "ass clown".
