This bootmenu is ported from Defy !
Install tutorial:
1. Apply Bootmenu v0.8.6-v2.zip via CWM (droid2bootstrap);
2. Then reboot, your phone should enter bootmenu. Press volume up/down key to highlight and power button to select/confirm;
3. Enter boot->Set default: ->[choose the default boot method you want] ;
4. In normal cases, you will see the led goes blue for 1.5 sec during booting and then you can enable bootmenu by pressing volume keys.
Features:
1. Overclocking;
2. Choose to enable Custom Recovery 3.1.0.0 or Stock Recovery;
3. Support adb in Custom Recovery mode
Tips: Not recommend to set default boot method as 2nd-init or 2nd-boot if you are not a DEV. If you have set it to 2nd-int or 2nd-boot and cause bootloop. Don`t flash sbf first. Because you can re-enter bootmenu by pressing volume key when you see LED goes blue during booting. And then please set back to boot bootmenu or normal boot. So your phone will not bootloop anymore.
Thanks for posting it here. I just tried it and it works like a charm.
I'm not familiar with Defy's BootMenu, but why would I want to use it over the default CWM Recovery?

Of course you can choose not to use this. But Defy's BootMenu provides more function other than just recovery.
Hmmmm... my phone bootloops. Now I've got to flash it.

Have you choose the wrong boot method, try to select normal boot. You can press vol key to re-enter the bootmenu when the LED light up instead of flashing sbf.
Edit: Here in my phone it works fine...

Yeah. That's exactly what I did. I even fomatted cache partition. The phone was forcing the boot the whole time. Even when I pulled the battery the phone started to boot normally, which means, that I couldn't enter CWM.
After that I deinstalled the boot menu resulting in .sbf-ing the phone.

When the phone boot to logo M, you should see the LED right-up goes blue for 1.5 sec. During this 1.5 sec, press any volume keys and you will enter bootmenu again. And then you can choose to enable CWM or any other thing.
Now I .sbf-ed the phone, wiped it and still it doesn't boot properly. Damn...

I have tried and found restore /system only can undo the .zip and flashing sbf do the same. Maybe your bootloop is caused by other thing.
Damn those guys of 3 Austria. Now I found the reason for not booting. My SIM card is totally destroyed. Now I put a second SIM card in there and surprise: My beloved Milestone 2 boots normally.
Thanks
Let´s see if we find a way to boot cm7...
Sry for offtopic. Does this mean, we have a new possible way of booting something else, than Motorola stock roms?
This is not a real port... The hole bootmenu, CWM recovery and overclock modules are built for Defy. The only things that changed from the bootmenu that you can download from Market are the icons and (not sure) you can navigate with the keyboard.
Well, if you want a real MS2 recovery use the MS2Bootstrapper.apk (Chinese, it's somewhere in the forum) or build a new bootstrap recovery from source.

Is it compatible with the latest last china GB leek?
And can we replace CWM3(from defy) to CWM4(from MileStone2Bootstrap_GoAPK.apk)?

Yes it is compatible. But don't try to install Milestone2Bootstrap_GoAPK side by side with any other CWM/Bootmenu.
@Milestone 2 (Finnaly on Gingerbread!)
The recovery isn't working fine. Something is wrong with /data and recovery can't mount or format it as expected.
Edit: Ok, could get the darn thing to work here Endless7, you have to edit /system/bootmenu/recovery/sbin. The scripts tune2fs (hijack) and mk2fs (hijack) are pointing to mmcblk1p25 instead of p26.

I have build a new one, but I cant test it yet. Now I am running MIUI, install any other recovery will break the 2nd-init for ROM.
[SOLVED]
I rooted this, installed clockworkmod, then went and got an cm7 dated april something 2012 u8160 rom from psyke83 website.
installed it through clockworkmod install from sd card option with success (also clicked option to backup everything).
yet when phone reboots it hangs on the blue arrow in a circle spinning around, sometimes reboots n repeats but it never goes past that.
I have tried going into recovery mode holding down volume buttons and power
and I get 1 of 2 errors:
with sd card in:
firmware update
step 1/2
unpacking
update failed
with sd card out:
purple screen.
I am a first time android modder, can someone please, please tell me how to fix this. I can access the sd card with a reader if need be to put whatever files on it that I should.
Thank you.
Start the phone by pressing volume up + power OR volume down + power. You should be able to boot to recovery with one of those combinations (other one boots to fastboot most probably). After that do the wipe data/cache and try to reboot once again.
What was wrong in the beginning was that you did not wipe data/cache. That made the CM use old OS's data files which obviously won't work.
The unpacking thing was caused by pressing volume up + volume down + power. That causes the phone to go to upgrade mode if there is an update package found.
Nope. still goes to the blue arrow circling then freezes then reboots....

You are right about me not wiping the data/cache though...
But in your phone forum, are there tutorials on how to boot to recovery? Do you have any other hard keys on the phone?
there is one other button but that didn't work either.

Hmm, would this work?
yay!!
it was volume up + power + cancel button (? maybe home button? not sure on what this button is but its the biggest).
wiped all data n cache n then it booted properly.
So the problem is solved? If you can, mark first post title with [SOLVED].

Hey guys,
i having trouble to get the recovery MENU open in Recovery Mode.
I shutdown the nexus, press power and both volume buttons -> fastboot, then go "into recovery".
But now i only get the green android with a "Kein Befehl" (means "No Command" oder something like that.)
I cant get the menu show up (the blue you can factory reset or clean cache, reboot etc).
After some trying with the buttons, the nexus reboot itself again normally.
Whats wrong? Did Google change here something?
It's usually volume up and power to get the menu but seeing as I'm using CWM I can't remember - not used the stock recovery in years!
It's still power then quickly tap volume up to access the menu

use this, and choose boot into recovery... easiest way, at least if direct way from bootloader doesn't work...
maybe u should reflash your recovery if the direct way isn't working
Maybe you haven't installed correctly the recovery..
Do a factory reset and then try again..
I had the same problem and I solved with this steps..

Yesterday, I wanted to make a clean install for the latest Quarx's CM 10.1 nightly (I've been flashing Quarx's builds for almost a year now, he's The Best), but I think I made a terrible mistake.
When I wanted to make a factory reset, I've got this error because the sd-ext, I understand, that happened because TWRP's structure with almost all devices running Android 4.2.2 have a virtual-sd and a sd-ext, so I decided to make an Advance wipe and I every damn box, even wipe system and wipe sd card.
Finally when I rebooted my phone, TWRP asked to install SU, I pressed yes.
Then when my phone was rebooting, I've got this error:
Bootloader
09.10
Err:A5,70,39,00,27
So, I've been flashing Froyo's .sbfs since yesterday, when I get pass verification from RSDLite and rebooted the phone, it just keep bootlooping, I left it almost 15 minutes and still in Froyo's bootanimation, I know it has to do because it's needed wipe data and cahe, but I can't do that because I can't access stock recovery (volume down+power button), I just get the triangle with the little Android in it.
Here's is the .sbf
JORLA_U3_3.4.2_108-5_SIGNED_USAJORDMR1B25CLALALA022.0R_JORLAFROCLALALA_P027_A018_M016_HWp3_WIG147154_Service1FF.sbf.gz
And I did it with RSDLite 5.6.
Hope you can help me, thanks anyway.

I am new to the Defy, but managed to root and move to CM7 and all seems good. I just wondered if there is a version of bootmenu that uses touch screen rather than volume and power buttons? I thought one of the ICS ROMS had a touch screen recovery, but maybe I am thinking of HTC.
Thanks.

I prefer CWM to TWRP, but is there a way to get the more advanced bootmenu 2 and keep CWM? Sndinitdefy seems to only have the recovery using the volume controls and power button.
Thanks.

I think Quarx merged that bootmenu when he started to make his 2ndboot nightlies for CM10, but I don't know how to install it separately from his .zip files, you should download some of the latest ROMs a see if you could merge the bootmenu to CM7.
where are you download this Froyo's .sbfs?

can you gave me a download adress? i am a chinese and have poor english level ,can you tell me the way you fix your phone step by step? think you !
This thread should help (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216982), in there you'll be able to find everything you need to fix your phone.
First download RSDLite, then search for a sbf suitable for your country.
Then flash it, you need to have Motorola drivers installed and plug the phone on bootloader mode (press volume up+power button), you have to paste the sbf file you extracted in the RSDLite folder, then just execute it and browse the sbf file, finally press flash and wait.
When you read "please start your phone manually" or something like that, disconnect your phone, remove the battery for five seconds then start it on bootloader mode and plug it.
Your phone should boot to Android.
If you get stuck on bootanimation, wipe data and cache from stock recovery (volume down+power button, when you see the triangle press volume volume up+volume down).
Your phone is ready to go now.

It's not the country your Defy proceeds, you need to know the country for your carrier's signal.
Hello,
I'm having a issue with Custom Recovery.
I've tryed to install both (CWM and TWRP).
The thing is when I turn off my device to
turn it on again pressing Vol Up + Power + Home I got a message saying "Recovery Booting". But the recovery doesnt start, instead my phone vibrate and begins to boot normally. It doesnt enter in custom recovery mode.
I was hoping someone could help me on this.
My device:
Stock ROM
Root (Edited to get rid of Custom status)

Does anyone know how to unistall a custom recovery or have any idea why this is happening?
By the way I followed this steps

Are you letting go of the power button when the device vibrates?
This is how I get in recovery...while phone is on, long press power button for power menu, press restart...than only hold the volume up while it restarts and nothing else, it will than boot into recovery

have you tried re-flashing the recovery?
Have you tried downloading one of the simple reboot tools that let you choose to reboot recovery?
Thanks for the help guys.
So I tried enter in recovery thru CWM option (Restart in Recovery) it worked.
But it doesnt work when I try manually (vol up + home + power). I really dont know why.
I'm afraid flashing a custom rom doing this way, because if something goes wrong I wont be able to acess the costume recovery.
Is there a way to unisitall the custom recovery?

This is actually a common problem for some reason. There's an easy workaround:
Long press the power button and choose "power off". Give your phone a few seconds to turn off completely. Once it's off, press and hold these 3 buttons at the same time: POWER+VOLUME UP+HOME. Look at the top left of the screen - as soon as you see little blue text saying entering recovery, let go of all buttons immediately...but be ready...if your phone vibrates (it might be trying to reboot normally again), press and hold those same buttons again until you see the blue text again...then let go immediately. Now you will see your recovery!
Alternatively, when I'm not on a custom ROM that has the reboot options mod built in, I use this app to get to recovery/bootloader easily:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.siriusapplications.quickboot
