Sometimes, most often watching videos (it happens while playing games as well) my Nexus 7 will completely seize up and nothing works at all. The sound also freezes at the point it is at as well. This problem has persisted throughout multiple ROMs and kernels so I'm beginning to think it is a hardware issue.
The device will reboot after I hold the power button for a few seconds. Lately it has been happening multiple times every night while I watch videos on different apps (including MXPlayer and YouTube).
I don't know exactly what is going on or what other information I should give, but just ask and I'll provide it. Thanks.

Hi all,
Just received a nice Philips Fidelio AS111 Bluetooth speaker dock for my 21st, pairing went fine and music etc plays through fine
However, the constant Bluetooth connection seems to be constantly rebooting my phone. I'm running AOKP m4 and have tried with a couple of kernel combos, Steve Garons, AirKernel and Speedy 7, have also adjusted the min CPU value to try and combat it. Will try matr1x now.
I'm not using deep idle, anybody have any ideas or having the same issue then help is greatly appreciated

Had the same issue with my Oxygen 2.3.2 ROM (GB) when I overclocked to 1200. The phone will reboot as soon as bluetooth is connected and audio streaming starts. I got that with 200/1200 ondemand.

Great thanks for the info, I had heard on the interwebs that overclocking could kill Bluetooth, I wonder why that is?
I used Oxygen almost exclusively back in my Desire days, stock Gingerbread at its best! Waiting patiently for Oxygen 3.0

Hello all,
I have been having an issue with video playback. YouTube is decent most of the times, but I just tried using Netflix and every 5 or so seconds the audio will skip and the video will freeze, then catch back up. Really annoying and makes for a poor experience. Is this an issue on JB or something that I can easily fix?

I've probably watched at least 20 hours of Netflix content on my N7 so far and I have not seen so much as a single hiccup.
I don't know if your issue could be bandwidth related. I have about 12.5Mbps down at home, and have also streamed via WiFi hotspot on my Verizon S3 using LTE.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Definitely not a bandwidth issue. I have 30 down FiOS. Maybe I'll try reinstalling or try a different ROM. Could be related to the kernel I have as well.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
I restored to a previous stock backup and still showing the same problems. This is annoying.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Very strange. My N7 is 100% stock ... not even unlocked or rooted.
The Netflix app is reported as version 1.8.1 build 573.

Mine is back to the stock ROM and it is still acting up. Not really sure whats going on. I have rebooted, uninstalled and reinstalled and doesn't change it.

Maybe a hardware defect. Is your stock ROM a clean install?
Stock ROM was a nandroid backup. I don't know if it is a hardware defect. I refuse to exchange this over something like choppy Netflix playback. Simply for the reason that my tablet is extremely solid otherwise.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Apparently it was simply my Netflix settings were too high. I changed it online from best quality to better quality and it immediately fixed my issues. No more stuttering. I still find it hard to believe though that with a 30 meg down connection it has trouble streaming HD video.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
I have the choppy playback problem too. I was getting this on my Kindle Fire with ICS and doing a factory reset and reinstall (still within ICS) fixed it. I tried the same on the N7 here with no luck.
I would do the quality thing, but it seems sad I would have to degrade the playback quality on all Netflix capable devices (the iPad 2, the 47" TV, etc) just to make it work and that still wouldn't explain why the Kindle Fire running the same version, with "slower" hardware would play just dandy.
I've tried both the Amazon version (Version 1.8.1) and the Play version (Version 1.8.1. Build 573) without any difference...they might be the same version, but when I went from Play to Amazon it wanted to "upgrade" me, so I uninstalled and did the Amazon one just to test.
Pretty sure it's not bandwidth either as I have 25mb down, 5mb up.
Personally, since everything else works awesome on my N7 and I have it completely set up the way I want now (rooted, all apps installed, etc) I think I'll pass on doing any other weird stuff to get Netflix working. Hopefully they will update it and fix it (yeah...kinda blaming Netflix for this)!
I've installed 3 versions of SENSE ICS ROM but all of them come with this flicker screen. I read someone mentioned it's a kernel problem. I'm not sure about it since 3 ROMs behave differently. Yoshi gave me the less frequent flicker (about once every 3 hours I guess) and Viper gave the most (like couple times in every 10 minutes.)
I'm asking if someone experience the same or anyone may have a (temp) solution?
Does this happen to aokp roms? (I really like SENSE internet pass though feature and the camera. Other than that I can flash to an AOKP.)
I have the screen off flicker its a kernel problem with 3.0 kernels and Sony displays.

I think it's something to do with WIFI. But I might be wrong. Do we have any other kernels can be used on ICS SENSE other than this?
Also I don't think I've got a Sony display. Mine I think it's Sharp but I could be wrong.
So actually I am a big fan of ps one games and I can't resist to not play ps1 games on my phone.
Well I am worrying about there battery drain here.
After playing a game on my epsxe and fpse(about 35 minutes) I go from 100% down to 69%
Is it normal? or not?
(also my phone heats up after this amount of time)
Most likely you need to change CPU settings, including voltage.

I am on stock android(rooted)
Can you recommend me a good Rom-Kernel combo ?
Cause this is my first android experince, and I am not sure what the best rom is for a beginner like me is .
I also do not want to damage my phone by tweeking with the cpu and voltage settings.
Should I wait maybe for stable roms? Cause I see alot of nightlies roms.
Also I am not familiar with the term "milestone rom"
Thanks in advance.
Any of the custom kernels should last a bit longer than stock. I use IntersectRaven's kernel. I have fpse but haven't gotten around to putting any iso's on here yet so I'm sorry I can't give any report. You could also try lowering the brightness while you play, and turning off data or just enabling airplane mode if you don't mind not being able top receive calls or texts while you play.

You can stick with stock ROM rooted but you can under clock it. The emulator doesn't need a lot of power, I use yo use it on my 600mhz phone so it should be fine with the nexus. Also stock rooted is the most stable.

Or keep the phone plugged charging while playing, this phone is a battery hog, i mean am not trying to generalize, but seems like some people try to multitask all day long on a mobile device with no removable battery, i mean really, think about a gadget trying to process console games, web, content, gps, screen activity, all at the same time, come on people at the end this is a phone not an alienwarelike or multitasking wireless gaming console

Thanks for the replies guys !
Should I use SetCpu in order to under clock it?
Also I heard many positive things about the franco kernel, is it worth giving a shot?

I haven't tried it personally but, you should still give it a shot. And setcpu is fine.

Most custom kernels lag more than the stock kernel.
If you want to go the custom kernel route for (at the moment) better battery life, go either CyanogenMod(the one included in their ROM) or Franco.
I just got a gs4 and am coming from the gs3. Does this phone run hot normally? Seemed warm on stock and hotter once I tried to install the freegs4 ROM. Even shut down twice.
Edit: flashed a different ROM and kernel and am all good.

Yeah I noticed when flashing certain Roms and setting it up, it gets very hot that it shuts itself off.

Not true on my part. I've flashed stock deodexed MF9 rom with Stock MF9, Agats, and Ktoonz kernel. All resulted in the phone heating up and shutting down on its own.

So I have tried 4 different ROMs and 3 different kernels and the heat issue keeps happening. Right now I was using the latest Venum ROM and the ktoonz kernel and the phone shut off due to the heat. Stupid phone, I just got it on Sunday. Never had this issue on my epic or e4gt or gs3.

The only kernel adjustments were to the governor and scheduler (using smartass and sio, no alterations to either). I just tried using the rescan media disabler apk to see if maybe my media was causing the phone to run hot. It seemed to be the only thing going in the background.

is it heating up during usage, charging, sitting there......? have you actually physically looked at the battery to make sure its not cracked or swollen?

Usually the heat starts when I am using the phone, which is usually browsing the internet or reading up on sports news. Screen off or charging I have been OK so far. As far as the battery, it appears to be in good physical condition. I also have 2 OEM batteries by Anker that experience the same issue. So far so good, though - been using the phone moderately since the last shut down earlier today and it seems ok at this moment.

if it heats up really bad again try underclocking a step and see if that helps.....phone might be getting hot because your chip is poorly coated and the higher frequiencies are heating it up enough to shut the device down. you may have to underclock by one or 2 steps to ensure its not a consistent issue.....worth a shot anyways. unless you do high graphic gaming and multitask with 8 apps at once your really dont need the higher clock speeds anyways.

Good idea, hopefully I won't need to! Appreciate the feedback.
If you just got this phone Friday then I would return to stock, run triangle away and exchange it. What you describe isn't normal, why take a chance and get stuck with a bad phone when you are within the exchange window.

Thanks all. I loaded up the latest Sac ROM and ktoonz kernwl, but disabled media scanner. No more hot issues. I guess it running like crazy in the background caused the battery to commit suicide.

Seriously guys, your S4 doesn't heat up at all???
I'm back to 100% stock everything (kernel, rom) and running this for a couple weeks. I've completed several factory resets and whatnot as well through those weeks. I know my install was clean as could be.
Now, my phone gets hot at seemingly random times. sometimes playing games, for sure while navigating with GPS and sometimes when its just sitting there. I monitor things with Better Battery Stats and keep an eye on the CPU Spy. I'm achieving deep sleep most often. Some of this is caused by the god awful Sprint service here and the constant search for signal, but I was hoping that this wouldn't get as hot as the S3.
so, should I seek a refurb from Sprint? I have the insurance. I am just afraid that a refurb would do me no better.
My biggest gripes are heating up occasionally, WiFi disconnect issues. I hope 4.3 can help some of these.
