Screen flicker - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've installed 3 versions of SENSE ICS ROM but all of them come with this flicker screen. I read someone mentioned it's a kernel problem. I'm not sure about it since 3 ROMs behave differently. Yoshi gave me the less frequent flicker (about once every 3 hours I guess) and Viper gave the most (like couple times in every 10 minutes.)
I'm asking if someone experience the same or anyone may have a (temp) solution?
Does this happen to aokp roms? (I really like SENSE internet pass though feature and the camera. Other than that I can flash to an AOKP.)

I have the screen off flicker its a kernel problem with 3.0 kernels and Sony displays.

I think it's something to do with WIFI. But I might be wrong. Do we have any other kernels can be used on ICS SENSE other than this?
Also I don't think I've got a Sony display. Mine I think it's Sharp but I could be wrong.

Perhaps the problem is with ota build. Most here are rooted with custom rom. Are you by chance running a custom rom or the stock one that was sent over the air?

phone is default updated OTA
Then perhaps you can root and install a custom rom. It seems to me when I download a custom rom ota, its more likely to be corrupt. If its stock you want, it's available here. Better yet you might try Pete's Bugless Beast- stock with some additional enhancements. That way you get the stock a stock experience ... but better

It was the other way round for me, I've only had the rebooting issue on my 9023 when I was using a couple of different cm roms, and it went away when I went back to stock. Have tried some other non cm roms, but not for long enough to show any effects.
No reboot, fortunately
That's an issue with 2.3.1, just update to 2.3.4 ota and it should be gone

The CM reboots and sod are know bugs for CM and many have reported the problem stems from the flashing alternative kernel. I've been on GLADOS CFS @ 1.4 for several days now and have had absolutely no problems.

I've never had any random reboots on my NS4G...nor have I even heard of this being an issue with the NS line, at all. I've been flashing new roms/kernels like crazy for the last 3 months I've been using this phone...the longets I think I've gone without a single flash is probably 4 days....and I've never had a single hardware issue of any kind These phones seem really rock-solid to me!!
They've turned a Samsung hater into a Samsung fan overnight!!! I'd buy a GN in a heartbeat if I hadn't JUST bought my NS4G lol

Touch Screen unresponsive?

I am using a deodexed 4.2.1 and official cm10.1. I've had it happen three times where the touch screen becomes 100% unresponsive. It always happens on the lock screen and requires a reboot. Anyone else had this issue? Could it be software issues? In the mean time I am back to stock back up.

I'm running rooted stock 4.2.1 and I've had a couple times when the lock screen didn't work. Screen off and on worked. (I would however miss the call obviously) It's rare, but I've had it happen on my Nexus 4, Galaxy S2, Motorola Defy XT, HTC Evo 4G, and my original Motorola Droid 1 slider.
I think it's a glitch and it can happen.
hey i'm on liquidsmooth but it also happened on cm10.1, try Minco V.6 and report if it happens again..
btw all on franco kernel( r23 & r28)
ps: it happens to me on nearly every bootup and needs about 1minute do get responsive..

ICS sense 4 signal drops

I really like the look of the sense 4 ROMs I was on glacier one for a while but just got tired of having slow data speeds and always having signal drops.
I have also tried the Hyperion ROM and viper touch and I don't know if its just me or is everyone else still experiencing signal drops. Data speeds are better than when I was on glacier one but the signal drops are a real deal breaker for me and its a shame cuz they are nice roms
Sent from my GT-P3110 using xda app-developers app
I think signal drops are pretty common. I get them all the time on my Glacier.
No but its like really bad on the glacier one Rom and since the Hyperion is the same base I believe its the same.
Viper touch seemed to be just once.
Btw I don't get signal drops

On any ROM I'm on I will randomly lose all signal for 30 seconds - 1 minute several times a day. Never figured out way, and I don't like flashing radios. Too much risk.
Yeah, i had the issue with sense roms as well, it happens a lot more on sense roms but its been a while since i have seen that. Does it drop on glacier one or hyperion? I have tried the latest editions of both and i didn't get any drops

One of our myTouch 4Gs had Hyperion Yoshi on it for a while and the user frequently complained about it 'forgetting' it had signal and thus losing connectivity to things like Maps (which was a deal-breaker). Just flashed Dark Unicorn on that one, which seems to handle signal issues just fine (but of course, it's not a Sense ROM).
if u want something more stable...u can try glacier rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1852410 it is a older rom (ICS) but after trying a new rom almost every week I end up going back to this one for stability. I have Mobilicity (which is supposed to have poor signal quality) but rarely have I experienced signal drops....noticed it twice for less than a minute in over 3 months n both times weather was pretty bad...windy/almost storm like conditions!
I believe I was on the glacier one v1.3 as I can see its been revised in v2.0 which I guess what fixed it. I just remember that everyone was having signal drops and phone was really only staying 3g which is why I switched. I took a second look at Hyperion and saw that after the ROM had settled and after a few reboots all was good I was just experiencing signal drops almost 5 mins apart after flashing the first day.
Sabsa prime is pretty good almost perfect actually
Just find myself coming back to cm7.0.3 as I feel its the most stable of the cm7s

For what it is worth I haven't had the same problems on ViperTouch and have been running for a few weeks - don't seem to have a problem with 4g either ...

Touchscreen has no response when waked up by BULLETPROOF 1.1?

I found it weird when I swipe2wake my nexus7 with bulletproof kernel.
Sometimes I can turn on the screen but cannot control it.
I thought it was a hardware problem but after exchange a new one , same problem-----turn on the touchscreen and can't control it to unlock.
Not always happen, just one or two times.
I guess it is related to the kernel and volts, so i use CM instead.
Who else finds this?

Artifacts at boot

Hello, i just bought a nexus 10 and updated to android 4.4.4 but i noticed a weird thing that happen often when i power on the tablet. Before the google logo in the lower side of the screen im having strange artifacts / lines with strange pixels that disappears in an instant. I have recorded the thing and uploaded a video....tablet is stock locked and unrooted. Tablet works normally without any evident issues....why im seeing this artifacts before the google logo and how can i fix it? It is software or hardware related? Thank you very much i hope someone can help me here is the video :

I have noticed that on both 4.3 and 4.4. Wasn't there on 4.2.
Im not sure if the issue was there before updating since i just updated the tablet by ota to the last 4.4.4 as soon i get it. I tried a clean flash from stock and the artifacts on boot are still there...i cant flash other custom roms because im stock and locked....more infos are appreciated I would like to know if its normal and if its hardware or software issue
Thank you very much

Mine has always had that as well. I don't think it's that big of a deal since they disappear right away. Possibly a combination of hardware and software. Maybe due to the Mali GPU chip? I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. Seems to be pretty common on this device. Now if they don't disappear, then that's a problem.

Yes the artifacts disappear after the google logo. This thing happen only with the stock rom or even with custom roms? Unfortunately i cant try since its a gift, i hope this artifacts are not sign of a hardware defect.

I was using SlimBean 4.2.2 correctly, but updating to SlimKat 4.4 this problem appeared, but I also updated TWRP from 2.6.3.0 to 2.7.10.
Same problem with others ROMS as Purity and RastaKat and different kernels as KTManta and Trinity.
Are you using TWRP or CWM?

Thanks for sharing your experience. Im using the stock recovery since my nexus 10 its stock locked and unrooted. So every nexus 10 owner who updated to kitkat would experience this thing...This issue has been reported to google? My retailer told me that i can RMA the device but if every Nexus 10 have this artifacts at boot then its useless to RMA.…also im new to the Nexus 10 forum as i own a nexus 7. This problem has been mentioned on other topics? Thank you

Ok, then this must be a problem with Google's sources (a GPU driver error?) because it is a common issue between different ROMs, Kernels and recoveries, but I do not know if Google has been notified.
