Hey all,
I received received my LG Nexus 4. I don't know if I may have damaged my screen but hopefully you guys can help clear up my queries.
I've been trying on screen protectors and my case, I don't know if maybe I've damaged it. But, one thing that has lead me to believe this is when I start up Nexus 4, during the Google screen at the top right, there is a bit of light exposure.
Basically, I would assume that during the Google screen at boot up, the whole screen would be black right except where it says Google.
Mine has a bit of faint white light on the top right corner.
Could anyone help clarify this for me?
Appreciate it, thank you!
I'm assuming that on most Nexus 4's that around the Google logo at boot up it is pitch black. But, others with Nexus 4's please check on boot up at the Google screen around the top right edge, do you also have a white/faint tint in the corner?
Are there anyways to check this? That the touchscreen is still functioning in the corner? Am I worrying too much about it? Is there a way of testing the screen?
Is your case still on the device? I'm not sure which one you're using, but it's possible that it may be too tight for the Nexus 4, which is causing pinching of the touchscreen.
You're right, at boot, the screen should be pure black, save for the Google logo and that unlocked icon (for unlocked bootloaders).
You can check if it's still registering touch feedback by going to Settings > Developer options > Show touches. Then try touching that area and looking for a white circle. Or simpler, you can pull down the notification shade from the upper right edge.
If it's still in warranty, maybe you could have it returned too.

I'm using a Ringke Fusion case, it's brand new. This was yesterday I noticed this on the screen, I was a bit annoyed after wasting a couple of screen protectors getting it on, hopefully when I go home and look at it today it looks pure black but I doubt it. I will try out the methods recommended.
@mlag: Surely I couldn't have broken it? Everyday people must put these phones into there jeans or tight trousers and it must put some pressure on the screen. As I said yesterday I was a little frustrated after going through many screen protectors trying to get it on properly. Hopefully today when I switch it on when I go home it looks better.

So I've established that light bleeding on the Nexus 4 along the top of the screen is quite common. After reading from this thread below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2133655
Now can anyone tell me how light bleeding is caused? I'd appreciate it, thanks!
Its the display itself when made, you can't cause your phone to get light bleed at least I don't think. I also have a little on the top right.

Thanks for your response mate in both threads, I read the other one and I agree with you. It doesn't bother me, it is only because I switched on the new phone yesterday I was just playing with it as I haven't got my new SIM to use it yet. And, I noticed at the top on the right there was a very faint light bleeding, it isn't that noticable.
I will carry on using it as it is.

Hi, I want to share my experience with a Nexus 7 2013 which bought to me a friend in USA (I'm from Spain).
It is made in China, June, and it has every touch problem described here: maps rotate, multi-touch with only 2 fingers, Swype keyboard problem (the draw was continuously cut off), the screen didn't recognize my finger, and sometimes ghost pulsations.
Well, I sent the tablet to the tech support and today is back.
The report says:
Problem: Touch Screen Function Error
Replaced part: LCD + Front + GPS module
Note the Gps module replaced which I didn't referred.
Now everything is ok and screen works without problems. And all of this with the J compilation.
Clearly, my experience indicates that the Nexus problem is a hardware problem, and Asus knows perfectly the problem.
Cheers.

What I don't understand is if that was the case there would be a lot of perfect ones out there. They should call for a recall if you have a certain date of the bad batches. This is how it should be done. If you bought it from Best Buy then best buy should be getting good batches for exchange. With reciepts still. I am over my 15 days now. 2nd of all I just don't believe that this is hardware. I had a perfect screen for 15 days then this update destroyed it. HMMMMMMM doesn't make sence. It is software issues thats going on.
I think what Asus is doing is recieving your Nexus 7 and istalling the proper drivers for the screen it has in it. The next update that comes out will destroy it again and again till you get tired of this crap.

I'm happy they fixed your touch screen issue, I'm thinking about having my n7 sent to be repaired too because ts10 helped a lot but it still doesn't feel 100% fixed.
Does your nexus feel solid and one piece like it did out of the box? I'm worried about having the screen feel like it could detach if they replace it.
I would like to see people start putting pictures of the paper work for this problem. Meaning the paper they send back with your tablet saying it is a defective screen or digitizer. Then we need to do something to get a replacement. Not sending it off. Exchanges at retail stores.
I have now the Q compilation with root and unlocked, and the touch screen is ok still. I don't see anything different to the original product (when I opened the box), but I think they exchange the screen and GPS, as they told me.

Dude, read the description! It is NOT test app. It is showing (simulates) bad touch so you can compare it with your device.
Nothing more, nothing less.

hmm, since the app creator figured out how to replicate the problem by simply displaying a certain image in fullscreen, so i was wondering if a replaced touchscreen would solve the problem. but i guess not..

I knew it. I found something out last night. Mine works perfect if its on a hard surface like a wooden table. If I put it on my couch or lay it on any cloth type material it has dead spots on typing. Mine is in a slimline Moko case. This is tested without holding it and unplugged. Touching the screen with one finger and hand only.Type real fast on each letter and they drop out touches.Like I said it works perfect now.

Shure it would help, but exchange for another better type of screen/toch combo :/
But i think cleaning an touching ang cleaning help.. mine is a lot better than it was on a first day (with a same ROM).
Cleaning a cache in my case Cruselite TPU with antistatic cleaner helped, too I think
Butt "some jittering remins" its hard to pickup icons to move "icons"... As nexus mean i move or tap the finger..

Take your Nexus 7 out of the case and lay it on a nice wooden hard surface and retest the screen. Mine works perfect on hard surfaces only.im thinking it could be the digitizer flexing or the wireless charging coils causing the problems.
The previous video was recorded before I sent the tablet. As it is shown it worked in a terrible way. Now is something subtle, because it only fails sometimes and mainly on hard surfaces.
It is strange, before to tech support it failed each second. Now, I can be swyping several minutes and it doesn't fail, and in other moment it fails 1 out of 10 words.
I will try to update to R compilation (I have the Q) and I will tell you.

Most cracks happen often due to pressure exerted onto the device.
I can't point any reasons out, but you could have hit it against something hard in your pocket, or sat on it. As Samsung adores the plastic material, this is prone to happen.
It is a problem even on the previous models. I just found my S3 has a crack like that next to the charging port.

Hi,
I recently repaired an S4 by replacing the screen/midframe. I noticed it makes a strange noise kind of like something is burning, on some occassions it does go to the samsung logo then boots back up, so it's like there's a short somewhere. it sounds like it's coming from the charging port but I can't think why.
Now, there's quite a few issues already with the phone. the sim card reader does not work, the volume up button does not work, the wifi and bluetooth does not work and the phone does have warranty until next year.
here's a video of the noise:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9N-ppTj4...
is it possible I could replace this under warranty? I know I have replaced parts but Apple usually will replace the phone if there is still a fault on their end

I repaired the phone myself, it was only the LCD and mid frame which has been replaced. My friend has taken an iPhone 5s into Apple for warranty which had a full rehousing and LC D and they only rejected it because of a new battery. I have done the repair many times myself, it's possibly the easiest LCD replacement possible on a phone so I can't understand where this noise is coming from. Prior to this, the phone was absolutely destroyed, bent in half in some places and the glass of the LCD was actually peeling off, but the phone was still recognized by the PC and you can see no damage to the logic board
bump please somebody

It's probably the screen making the noise. You can try it by disconnecting the screen and then power on your phone.

You can always buy a new screen from aliexpress. They're actually not too hard to replace by yourself.
Replace it by yourself or find a place that allows you to bring your own parts.

When you say any vendor, there are loads of little shops that say they do phone repair but look a little dodgy and do loads of other things too - are these safe?!
Also, there seems to be a bit of a spectrum of replacement screens (high quality / original etc)
I'm guessing none of them are actually original, so is there anything I need to look out for to get a good one?

Screen Replacement isn't that big of a Deal..
So relax Find a Good mobile shop and there u go..
As Far as screens are concerned no screen is Orignal unless u are getting it from the Service Center...
So u have to settle for less. Just get the screen for the specific phone exactly and u are good to go
Thanks all. Can anyone tell me roughly what the cost is likely to be if i take in a screen to a place and say - do it for me?
I have found somewhere that will post the phone and do the repair for £50
Looking on AliExpress then the screen is £20 (+ long wait or postage cost)
So if it's around £20 then seems like i may as well just use the service here (https://www.quickmobilefix.com/products/xiaomi-mi-a1-front-screen-lcd-repair)
I'm going to call them to check they have a screen in mind - don't want to send it off and then find they themselves have to order from china...

Hi, I will give you my input input on this matter now. The tools required are most of the time included with the replacement screen, also you will have to buy the entire thing (LCD with touch). LCD from Aliexpress for cheap xiaomi is most of the time original LCD but with copied glass and touch. I've bought two different for redmi note 4 and both were pretty much like the original. Working perfectly so far after about 3 months.

Edit - I also see LCD and Digitizer only options too (much cheaper)

A frame one is probably quite easy to replace. Non-frame needs special adhesive tape or glue which is often quite hard to get and can lead to light leakage. Also, if you're replacing yourself, make sure the case of the phone has'nt been bent. Otherwise over time it can make the new display get pushed out or crack easily again. Also, I do recommend a screen protector for non-original display because they get smudged easily.
