S4 Makes "burning" noise - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I recently repaired an S4 by replacing the screen/midframe. I noticed it makes a strange noise kind of like something is burning, on some occassions it does go to the samsung logo then boots back up, so it's like there's a short somewhere. it sounds like it's coming from the charging port but I can't think why.
Now, there's quite a few issues already with the phone. the sim card reader does not work, the volume up button does not work, the wifi and bluetooth does not work and the phone does have warranty until next year.
here's a video of the noise:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9N-ppTj4...
is it possible I could replace this under warranty? I know I have replaced parts but Apple usually will replace the phone if there is still a fault on their end

Hello,
You repaired by yourself or through an authorized center?

I repaired the phone myself, it was only the LCD and mid frame which has been replaced. My friend has taken an iPhone 5s into Apple for warranty which had a full rehousing and LC D and they only rejected it because of a new battery. I have done the repair many times myself, it's possibly the easiest LCD replacement possible on a phone so I can't understand where this noise is coming from. Prior to this, the phone was absolutely destroyed, bent in half in some places and the glass of the LCD was actually peeling off, but the phone was still recognized by the PC and you can see no damage to the logic board

bump please somebody

What device do you have and what screen you bought? Remember that display controller is different among some S4 devices

bumpppppp

It's probably the screen making the noise. You can try it by disconnecting the screen and then power on your phone.
Oh I read you have more issues. Is it water damaged or something?

Is this fixable? Broken Screen

My friend gave me his Bell Galaxy S3 it is a SGH-I747M to repair if I can.
He said he was making a video while driving a car at about 80kmh and dropped the phone out the window and this is the result. The back panel barely even has a scratch. The bezel has few bruises but the screen is totally destroyed. It's possible that a car ran it over I'm not sure.
The screen does not turn on at all. I can charge the phone, I can hear it turn on and it makes sounds and vibrates during the opening video, it still receives text messages and phone calls as you can hear the notifications go off. And the touch key buttons (back and menu) still light up. The leds at the top still light up too.
I'd think so. Try getting a replacement screen (maybe give it a month and wait for a bad esn phone) and replace it.
My concern would be if the ..oh what the hell is it called, the capacitive touch pick-up part? is damaged. Screen itself shouldnt be too expensive or hard to replace, but that part could prove to be quite the tit.
iFixit has a teardown of the SGS3 that seems to indicate that it might be harder - or at least, more expensive - than you think: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung-Galaxy-S-III-Teardown/9391/1

Yeah, it's not easy, but it is doable. This site http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung-Galaxy-S-III-Teardown/9391/1#.T-AmIxeXSjP will show you a Teardown of the Samsung Galaxy S III. Also here's a youtube video http://www.google.com/url?q=http://...twIwAA&usg=AFQjCNG6aQgFNGyrNHDUzCcLecgR7qRHvA on How to Replace Screen to walk you through it.
Hope This Help's
The phone is still alive. Only the screen is pretty much useless now. Either sen it to Samsung and have them repair at an expensive fee or do it yourself which is $200~. My vibrant had the same symptoms too. I wouldn't imagine a phone that survived after dropping out of a car running at 80 kmh

if the phone is still under warranty, i would just send it in for repair rather than doing it yourself, which will almost certainly void the warranty. chances you get a working phone are 100% if you do that
in my experience it is better to send back to manufacturer for repair or a 3rd party than trying to do it yourself, especially if you don't have a lot of experience with cell phone hardware.
Just get insurance for it. Then after 30days call them tell them the screen is broken and they either fix it or replace ur phone. That is the best thing to do.

Sammy warranty does not cover this.
i would still recommend sending it back to samsung for repair.
i would also tell your friend to refrain from activities which could send his s3 charging towards the ground at 80+KPH in the future

here's my point: don't do it yourself unless you're very confident you won't mess it up. and considering you posted on this forum to begin with, you probably need to send it in

[Q] Nexus 4 dropped and display blurred,

My Nexus 4 dropped from my pocket this morning. I was shocked but the Phone didnt switch off. No visible scratches, apparently there is no scratches at all.The Display turned blurred and there are green, red and yellow patters visible from top to bottom on the left and right sides of screen.Advise me what to do next .The display is looking like running a 800*600 resolution on a 1920*1080 screen.I want to know If the LG customer centre accepts this under warranty.I didnt contact them. .
This is just a wild guess, but something inside probably came loose due to the shock. Take it back to LG and tell them that you don't know why this happened. I am pretty sure that drop damage is not covered.

My query is will they be able to find that the phone has been dropped, because many users reported this issue in a brand new device. Proper context for the problem is vertical patterns appearing and the display is blurred.
Service centre people accepted it

I cannot understand what you are trying to say.Is your colours alone changed? My device resulted in vertical patterns of lines appearing on the display and the display is blurred. If the colours alone changed means you can re adjust it with display control, but better is go to service centre because there are chances of that happening again are quite possible. Some internel parts like the embedded digitalizer might have been became loose due to stock. If your phone has no visible scratches or broken glass, then you can go to service centre and say to them that "i dont know why this happened".

If you want a fully functioning device without defects,it is better to give them the device.I too had given them the device yesterday.Even if you had found solutions to the problem, there is no assurance that it wont happen again or some other problem might not occur. Arrange for an alternative phone.

Yesterday lg customer care people called and requested me to take the device which is repaired and fully functioning. Also they had installed 4.3 as per the request I sent them and it's very good. Touch responsiveness is rectified and working like a charm. I also find good battery life (an hour extra).

Purple and black stains on the display

Hello!
I bought the Galaxy S4 about two months ago and since then, I always used it with a screen protector and a case. But today, I found that many purple and black spots and smears have formed on the AMOLED. I have never dropped the phone or exposed it to heat. I tried rebooting and activated the LCD test mode, but none of them helped. Is it a hardware issue?
Can anybody tell me what's going on and help me?
Best regards,

Definitely hardware. Looks like the AMOLED itself. If you have warranty, I suggest you use it, because that's hardware, not software.
Hm, thanks for the help, although that certainly isn't good news... I will try to contact Amazon, let's hope they can help me with this problem.
As there is a large concentration of purple in the corner, I'd suggest that Samsung will try and tell you its been dropped and in that case, I don't think they will cover it under warranty.
I wish you luck!

Odd indeed ... usually when a screen is damaged or faulty bars appear pixel burned altered colors and stuff ... if i saw that and didn't know i d tell u that u definetely someone spilled ink on the screen ... those marks are exactly like it ... hopefully they ll repair it ...
I think samsung should change it under warranty because clearly, screen is not broken and still degraded. So it's bad display.
But they might say it's caused by water damage which is not covered under warranty.
Let's hope for the best.
They do have a way to tell if it's water damage, there is a sticker which turns blue when wet, so if there is no damage to the case, they should change it fine... I have had good luck with Amazon regarding returning faulty items...

Thank you guys for all the support, I sent it back to Amazon and today I got the mail that they have got the package. Now someone's going to look if this is covered by standard warranty... Let's hope for the best indeed!

My Edge S7 Screenn Dead? Please Help!

Hello All,
I have a huge problem with my screen. This one is blinking, Color are weird and I have a line on the top of the screen not moving. So I really that's a screen problem. and Even when I'm in TWRP , I see on the bottom that there is the screen blinking with a lot of color. It's like when you filming your screen with a camera.
Ok I fall few times but it had always a Spigen TPU and the screen has not strachs , nothing.
The problem is that I've already rooter and instal TWRP but it's cleary a problem with the screen but my Know Warranty is at 1 now
Can you help? Maybe if I go back to a stock Firmware, how can make it look more like the standard stock firmware and try to make it repair?
with a little chance?
Can you help pleasE?
Thanks!
This is obviously a hardware problem depending on in which country you are you might want to try to send it in for repair I don't think that the warranty expired because you rooted it can you send us a video showing the problem? Also why do you think the problem occurred? Did you drop the device?
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app
I rooted yes and the flag is at 1.
I've now restore from ODIN official Samsung Release and bootloader so everything is normal.
I drop it but it was protected and the screen is not broken and there is not even a little stractch .
Do you think they will refuse to repair the screen cause of that? It's clearly a problem of screen.
Not so much but like that. On the bottom. Color are weird. And on the top there is a bar whithout Pixels.
Why have you posted your video as Galaxy S3 video problems on your video on the Galaxy S7 Edge forum? And yes, I'm pretty sure that is a S3 phone you are showing us and not an S7 Edge like you think it is.
It's not a S3 I have a S7 I'm just showing that I have almost the same symtoms on my S7

It probably depends on the region, but that is clearly a hardware failure due to the drop, which has nothing to do with software. So they should repair it.

SO when people said that you lost warranty when you change the bootloader, if it's clearly a problem of Hardware and not software, they can't refuse it in warranty?

At least inside EU, when a failure is a hardware failure and not related to software, they must repair it.

I Think i Ruined my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and i need Help! :(

Hi. I have a rather weird story please read it. So, some months ago my Note 4 died and it wouldnt turn on anymore with no signs of life. Itried it with a friend's battery and it still wouldnt turn on so i thought that the problem might be with the motherboard so i bought a new motherboard from china. The problem is that even iwth the new motherboard that i just replaced my phone stilll wouldnt turn on! What might have i done wrong? Please help
It's possible you haven't reconnected all the connectors especially one or both of those on the back of the motherboard that click into place.
It's also possible that the failure is for another reason other than the motherboard.
My SM-N910F has recently failed with no prior warning with no indication what's causing the problem. I've tried adding the padding on the eMMC chip trick but that doesn't work for me.
can you please show me where the 2 connectors that need to click are?
